About the author

M. G. Leonard is a writer of books, poems and screenplays. She has a first-class honours degree in English literature and an MA in Shakespeare Studies from Kings College London. She works as a freelance Digital Media Producer for clients such as the National Theatre, and Harry Potter West End, and previously worked as a Senior Digital Producer at the National Theatre, the Royal Opera House and Shakespeare’s Globe. She spent her early career in the music industry running Setanta Records, an independent record label, and managing bands, most notably The Divine Comedy. After leaving the music industry, she trained as an actor, dabbling in directing and producing as well as performing, before deciding to write her stories down. Maya lives in Brighton with her husband and two sons.

Well, my first read of 2024 has been a great one, but where have I been til now in discovering this series?
Twitch by M.G. Leonard is such a page turner.
When Corvus Featherstone aka Twitch realises there is a dangerous robber hiding in Aves Wood where he has his bird watching hide, he sets about trying to find out more.

But there are a lot of new visitors in the Nature Reserve, Billy - the secretive traveller, Ava and Tippi living on a narrow boat with their Nan, as well as a couple of older boys intent on discovering where the loot is hidden.

Twitch is often bullied at school for his hobby, and he finds it hard to know who to trust, but sometimes friendship blossoms in the most unusual circumstances, helping him to get to the bottom of the crime.

The setting and wildlife theme is such a unique idea for a mystery, making it a gripping, fast paced read. I loved the mix of characters, and there were so many interesting facts about birds woven into the story, as well as messages about self belief and friendship.

I would highly recommend this book and need to get my skates on to read the other two books in the series before the final installment is released in a few weeks time!

Another enjoyable children's book. I've read some other M G Leonard books and have found that children find them engaging and easy to follow. I'll be recommending this to the 5 children in my class, both keen and reluctant readers.

I read twitch the first book in the series and it was good. A good understanding of the protagonist and the plot was also pretty decent!

Twitch is an enthralling read about a twitcher who is nicknamed Twitch.
Twitch is a kind, sensitive 12-year-old boy, who always stands up for what is right. He adores birds and greatly cares for his four pet pigeons, three hens and a family of swallows, who nest in his bedroom every year. Twitch gets bullied by students in his school and does not have friends at the beginning. However, that does not it does not matter much to him as he has many nature buddies. There is never a dull moment with his pigeons and chickens. When the news is out that A famous robber- Robber Ryan has escaped prison and his hiding in Aves wood, he is dismayed as his hide is located it the same location preventing him from having much fun during his vacation. Will this be an end to his vacation plans or will there still be a birdwatching adventure for Twitch?

I loved the book and would rate it 4/5 as the book was interesting and captivating. However, many scenes did not make much sense for me.

I would recommend Twitch to people aging 10 plus as it is hard for the younger kids to understand.
