The long awaited second book in the Hide and Seek mystery series is here!

As a child, Anissa Tate survived the unimaginable. Kidnapped and tortured, she was hidden away from the rest of the world for nearly two decades. Two years after being rescued from the cellar of a madman, Nissa is struggling to move on with her life. Still feeling like a stranger to her own family, Nissa finds herself enveloped in a darkness that threatens to consume her. Soon, she begins to paint as a way of bringing that darkness to light. Her nightmares come alive on canvas and a devastating secret is revealed. A secret that threatens to destroy her slowly, painting by painting.

Detective Ryan Wilshire wasn't there the night Nissa Tate was carried out of David Melvin's dark cellar. A childhood friend of her brother's, Ryan was on the outskirts of the investigation that finally brought her home to her family, after twenty long years. When his feelings for Nissa become too intense, he walks away from her, knowing she most likely will never be able to return those feelings. But then her family seeks his help. Since Ryan’s departure from her life, Nissa has a taken a turn for the worse again. Nightmares plague her. She's stopped speaking. She is slowly unraveling before their eyes. In spite of his forbidden feelings, Ryan knows he can't turn his back on the only woman he's ever really loved.

Together, Nissa and Ryan embark on a desperate journey to find the answers that will lay her nightmares to rest. Along the way, an unexpected healing begins for both of them, while at the same time, they unknowingly awaken a monster. A monster who will stop at nothing, including murder, to keep his secrets hidden.

Jennifer Hayden was born in Washington State. During her childhood and young adult years, she spent many hours lost in the adventures of a good book. She began writing her own stories at the age of 12 when she "ran out of books to read at the library." By the time she graduated from high school, she already had a job as a secretary/office manager, where she eventually met her husband, Mike. For the next several years, she wrote in her spare time, sharing her manuscripts with friends and family. At the urging of two good friends, she decided to go for broke and leave her secretarial career behind in pursuit of this magical literary journey. She now has 54 books available.

Some good parts, some not so good. Some of the plot points didn't work for me, but if you just buy into the story line, you'll probably like it better.

I didn't really like Ryan which was part of my issue with the story.

And the story poked one of my social issue buttons. If rich people didn't pay for illegal adoptions then at least this element of stealing children would be eliminated. But amazingly it seems like authors just give them a pass as this book does.
