Un viaje a Australia es como una suma de viajes. En primer lugar, porque Australia es una isla-continente enorme, donde las carreteras tienen rectas de cuatrocientos kilómetros y donde el tren tarda tres días en recorrer los tres mil kilómetros de distancia que hay entre Perth y Sidney. En segundo lugar, porque el paisaje es tan variado que permite contrastes tan fuertes como el de pasar del cosmopolitismo de Sidney y Melbourne al desierto de Outback y a la misteriosa Ayer's Rock. Xavier Moret hizo todo esto en un viaje que pretendía llegar a comprender este continente lejano rebosante de animales extraños (como el canguro, el koala y el ornitorrinco) y de emigrantes de todo el mundo.

About the author

Xavier Moret (b. 1952), a Barcelona native, studied English philology and journalism at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, but has learned much more from traveling. He has been lucky enough to earn his living combining three of the things he enjoys most: reading, writing, and traveling. In his twenties, he translated Superman and Batman. In 1982, he published his first novel, L'americà que estimava Moby Dick (The American who loved Moby Dick). He won the Grandes Viajeros (Great Travelers) Award for his book Islandia, la isla secreta (Iceland, the secret island) in 2002. In 2004, he received the 23 Abril Award for his novel Doctor Pearson, and the following year won the Sent Soví Award for gastronomic literature for El Bulli desde dentro (Inside El Bulli). Moret is a journalist and travel writer for the Spanish newspapers El País and El Periódico.

Leer este libro me ha traído muy buenos recuerdos de cuando tuve la suerte de visitar Australia. Está escrito de una manera muy sencilla, profundizando lo suficiente en la mayoría de los lugares y los temas. Un libro que da ganas de visitar el lugar.

No puc fer un viatge i, si hi ha llibre de Xavier Moret, no llegir-lo… M’agrada com viu el país que visita, com parla amb els locals, com barreja històries cotidianes amb la pròpia historia del país. Sempre aprens i és una excel·lent forma d’introduir-te al país.
