It seems shop owner and newly appointed Whispering Falls Village President June Heal has it all: Beauty, wits, bewitching powers...Sheriff Oscar Park. Life is good. Because life in Whispering Falls is magical.
Cures and Trouble. . .
But when a member of the community is found dead on the steps of A Charming Cure, June's homeopathic cure shop, and her fingerprints show up at the scenes of local robberies, she is kicked off the village council and her powers fall under scrutiny. Until it's uncovered who is wreaking havoc on the town...June's magic is suspended.
Magic Stirs. . .
With the help of a rather obnoxious genie and Mr. Prince Charming, June's Fairy-God cat, June is determined to figure out who is framing her. Time is of the essence when it becomes clear that the true villain is trying to get rid of her...permanently!
And Trouble Doubles. . .
Oscar Park will do anything to protect June even if that means giving up all of his magical powers. . . or worse, his life.
Beloved cozy mystery author Tonya Kappes is bringing her charming world to the screen!
The Hallmark Channel is thrilled to announce a television series in development based on Tonya’s wildly popular 40-book series, A Camper & Criminals Mystery.
A celebrated Amazon All-Star and USA Today bestselling author, Tonya has written over 180 southern cozy mysteries filled with heart, humor, and unforgettable small-town characters. Her novels, known for their southern charm and rich emotional storytelling, have been praised by readers and critics alike, earning her a coveted spot as a Woman's World Book Club Pick six times.
Writing full-time from her camper, Tonya crafts worlds where mystery, friendship, and a little mischief collide — and now, her stories will come to life for cozy mystery lovers everywhere.
This really deserves 2 stars for such OBVIOUSLY flawed writing. She strongly needs an editor. The story is so fun & @ only $3 well worth the price However, if the writing doesn't improve I might have to stop reading the series.
This was another good mystery in the series. It did suck that the town seemed to think that June was behind everything. Luckily she spends the rest of the book trying to figure out who is actually behind it. It was surprising to find out the who and why. I also feel bad for June because Oscar doesn't remember. I'm really hoping that it gets taken care of sooner rather than later.
Another mystery where June finds herself suspect number one and breaks a bunch of rules to clear her name and find the real killer. This is when Oscar willingly sacrifices his memory of being a spiritualist and his powers and becomes a hawt but useless character that June moons over. Her new found powers she thinks come from being named the new village president really come from a djinn found in a bottle in her shop. And those powers leave her at the end of the book; I think this was a good thing, since her true powers of intuition she hardly ever heeds, so more powers would be a waste.
Why have world building rules when your MC is just going to break every one in every book? *sigh* I did like the fact that the author made use of Hostess real-life shut down as part of the plot line.
Goes without saying with this series, the book needed a copy editor.
I am enjoying Tonya Kappes' Magical Cures Mystery Series more and more with each new book. A Charming Wish gave me a chance to get to know some of the other characters a little better, and enjoy more of June's antics as she continued to learn more about her new community and her new life as a spiritualist. In this third book in the series, June once again must use her wits to solve a mystery she has been tied up in to save herself and her friends. While untangling the mystery, June learns more about herself and faces temptation and loss. The end of the book left off with yet another mystery, leaving me with only one thing to say: "I wish book four were available already!" Great job, Tonya! I love this series!
I found book three in this series to be just as fun and delightful as the first two! Mystery, romance, drama, and throw in a touch of magic and what's not to like! The new character Belur the genie was a fun new add and I hope he comes back from time to time to visit Whispering Falls! Can't wait for the next one Tonya! :)
I'm giving this 3 stars only because I like the series. This one had some glaring mistakes. Not just editing, even though there were a few sentences that made no sense. But inconsistencies between the books. Like saying that June had never been in the funeral parlor when there was a whole scene that took place there in book 1. I hope this isn't the case in the next in the series.
I am enjoying learning more about this magical town. June is trying to track down a particular item for a spell so she has been trying to track down Kenny. What she finds instead is a genie in a bottle. Since June has asked everyone about Kenny’s whereabouts, she is first in line as a suspect when he turns up dead in front of her shop. All the evidence keeps pointing towards her. Along the way to solve the crime, Oscar takes a drastic step to keep June safe.
I'll be honest, if the author of this book wasn't sweet as Kentucky tea, I'd only leave 2 stars & feel justified in doing so. This book was my least favorite in the series so far. There were so many typos and structural errors that it was extremely distracting. I kept thinking I had misread lines, rereading them and still being just as confused. The book was disjointed, very little continuity and the absolute worst reason for a murder that I've ever come across. Some important topics that should have been given more time and importance were glossed over where as other events could have been left out completely as they didn't add anything to the story, just muddled everything up farther.
Also, can we all agree that "teletransport" is not ok? It's teleport. Everyone knows that, even those who didn't grow up with an annoying little brother that made them watch Star Trek. And it's not necessary to refer to the university as "Hidden Hall A Spiritualist University" every time it's mentioned, Hidden Hall is sufficient.
Now for the good stuff: the book is not without good qualities. Tonya Kappes is excellent at imagery. The world she has created is, well, magical. She makes me want to run through the woods and find Eloise's tree house and to find this magical town so I can see all the shops. The author does an excellent job of creating her world and most of the character development is strong. It's just disappointing that so much of the good about this work is negated by the negatives noted above.
Will I read more of this series? I'd say there's a 95% chance that I will. As I said from the beginning, this author is as sweet as they come. She genuinely loves her fans and interacts with them regularly. Yesterday on her FB page she posted a picture of her writing post cards for her fans while she was on vacation at the beach. I don't know any others that would do that. So, while the writing may not be as strong as I'd like it to be, I'm more than willing to keep reading, hoping to see some improvements and to see what happens in this crazy little village.
*UPDATE* after reading the 5th book i am back to loving it again! all of the things i mentioned im the bottom of this post has been redeemed! i will now go on to her splitsville
Sooooo there is so much I want to say and beware that SPOILERS shall have to pop up so I can give an accuarate review. When I first started this series I was in LOVE. The author has amazing creativity. I highly enjoyed the 1st 2 but the 3rd ruined it for me and so did the synopsis for 4 and 5! I feel that the story could have been developed much better. My first issue is the fact that the main character is thrown into an unknown world where hardly anything is explained. They just tell her what she needs to do and she does. Everytime dhe tries to get more info she is stonewalled....WHY???? Then they have the audacity to make her village president so early on in the series.....again WHY???? She obviously has none of the knowledge she needs. they say ita because of her father but shouldnt she develop as a character more and learn more about her spiritual gifts before giving her such responsibilty. It made no sense to make a woman who is new to this and new to the towm the village president. And Oscar...omg Tonye i love you but come on....he has to renounce his gifts AND lose his memore in order to help her??? what freaking sense does that make. that was so heartbreaking to me!! & how in the heck is he supposed to help her when he doesnt have all his memories. and to add insult to injury his memory loss makes him think that she actually abandoned their friendship when she moves. none of this makes sense...not to mention a native american killed over a freaking order of ding dongs!!!! wtf im so done with this. going to try another series by this author and hope its better because she really has good ideas!
This series has gotten sillier as it has gone along. I might not continue even though I've already purchased book 4.
The town is crazy. Let's make the newcomer, who still doesn't even know much about being a witch, the town president - because her parents were great????
Then everyone is blaming her for a bunch of crimes based on no real reason. Oh, she likes the dessert that was stolen, so she must have done it? Really????
And June herself is wishy-washy and behaving childishly. I shouldn't do this spell because I haven't learned this level yet, but why not? I'm not supposed to use my powers on others in the town, but it really needs to be done so I will...
And the reason for the murder was beyond ridiculous.
Magical Cures Mystery #3 A Charming Wish is June Heal getting into even more trouble....Lol Mr. Prince Charming is still June's Fairy God Cat and this time she also has to figure out how to manage being Village President figure out how to cast level 28 spells making her a Witch and figure out how to get her boyfriend Oscar back now that he is no longer a spiritualist....and, figure out who killed Kenny her Native American herb seller (he blows in on the wind) Plus there are no ding dongs what is she going to do???? and no June's Gems....oh the horror....will everything get figured out or will June lose everything she didn't realize she wanted
Trouble is when you really find out who your friends are.
Great. Take a genie add a murder and leave clues making her the prime suspect. Being President of the community isn't all its cracked up to be especially when her powers are suspended due to the death. Can she work around this to find the real killer and which members of her community will actually stand up for her? Great visualisation and with great characters that bring the story to life.
Another good offering from Tonya Kappes! This third in the series is just as good as the first two. This time June is in trouble. What happens to her, you won't believe. Let's just say there's an overly helpful genie thrown in the mix. I never thought I would like paranormal books until I started reading these. Now she has me hooked on a few paranormal series.
June is growing into her new life with all the joys and hiccups the best of us experience. She just does it a bit more publicly! I love the residents of Whispering Falls and Locust Grove. They are warm, caring, aggravating, prone to believe what they see, just like most of my family and friends. I simply love them!
Definitely the best book in the series so far, I find myself enjoying June's adventures more and more. Of course, this one was a little bit sad but I don't want to give anything away. Although Tonya Kappes did redeem herself just a little bit in the end. I am anxiously awaiting the next book.
Good book in the series. I'm just begging someone to please proof read the books before they are published. The mistakes in grammar/spelling/punctuation/congruency are really shockingly unprofessional and distracting.
June Heal is a character who becomes a part of me, and it is not to unusual for me to go to sleep dreaming that I am a part of her community- involved in yet another mystery she's tied up with. This one will be murder!
These are just cute little, magical, quick reads. I love the plot but alas, the writing is just mediocre. Clearly I like them or I wouldn't continue reading them.
This is the third book in the series. A spiritualist is found dead on the threshold of June’s shop. Somehow everyone believes June is to blame even though she was with them at the council meeting. June has a genie which is not allowed in her community. She desperately wants to contact Kenny, who she believes accidentally left him in a supply drop off.
What is happening In Locust Grove? The Piggly Wiggly is their grocery store f sorts. We are introduced to a few of those characters. The end of Ding Dongs? Oh my, June will need to find a new comfort food.
I liked the story but there are some inconsistencies between the books. For instance, at the beginning of the book, it’s one to two years since the last book. Then it’s a few months since the Mortimer sisters came to town and June saved them in the last episode.
June’s just finished making a potion and looking for just the right bottle to put any unused portion in. Suddenly a container lights up so she believes it’s the one. When she uncorks it, lo and behold, out puffs smoke and a genie. She’s trying to keep him a secret and she tries to find the person who gave her the bottle.
In the mean time, she’s begin choose to be the new Village President. She sees the man she’s looking for and runs to catch up. There is a crowd forming in front of her shop looking at a dead body who happens to be the person she’s looking for. All the clues point to her so is forced to close her shop. Oscar, her boyfriend, is also the sheriff but he’s been pulled off he case and forced to leave.
Read on to see how June figures out who the killer is, does she get to continue as the Village President and where her and Oscar are in their relationship.
This book has a nice story line. The main character gets ahead of herself often, but it's part of her quirkiness. The issues I have with this series are: The author can't always keep track of where she is in the story. Ex. The cat lifts his head toward the sun. In the next paragraph, the cat is running into the night. Another paragraph later, her aunt is in the sunrise. Talk about confusing! June talks to Patience and then calls her Constance a couple of times before calling her Patience once again. Oscar locked the door only to have someone burst through it a little later. These are a few of the annoyances within this book. If I didn't like the story, I'd stop reading the series. If the errors become worse, I will.
An enjoyable third instalment in this series. A whole year has passed since the adventures in the last book and June's confidence in her potion making has increased. When June brews a level 28 potion the bottle she chooses isn't an ordinary bottle, it contains something that must remain secret until she can find the bottles original owner. Things take a turn for the worse then the original owner is killed in front of June's shop and is the suspected murderer. Can she clear her name and find the killer before her whole life blows up. Can't wait to read book four.
June finds a bottle with a surprise in it. When she tries to find the owner, everyone says that he comes in with the wind and blows out with the breeze. What is that supposed to mean? She is surprised when they make her the new village president and several people are not happy about the appointment. When a dead body shows up on her shop doorstep, she is the number one suspect. Oscar renounces his powers so that he can help June. But, he may be forgetting her too. What can she do? She must find the killer before all is lost.
