Calder Jewelry features more than 450 bracelets, brooches, necklaces, and rings, photographed in still life by Maria Robledo. Also included are Calder's inventory drawings, boxes he made to transport and store the jewelry, historic photographs of his exhibitions and of jewelry worn by notable collectors and artists, and an extensive chronology. Essays discuss the relationship of these objects to the artist's other endeavors and in relation to the history of adornment.
I worked on this book for 4 months. I made the dress form used in the cover photo!! I also polished hundreds of pieces of jewelry, as well as restored several leather pieces. Maria is an incredible photographer and Calder was an incredible artist. Seriously, the coupling of artist and photographer is sublime. I love Maria and was so lucky to be able to work on this project. Definitely check this out, this aint no regular jewelry.
Oh it's a library book and I don't want to give it back!! A beautiful retrospective of Calder's jewelry including photo's of his studio, work in progress, progression of style. Sigh...
As a metalsmith I really enjoyed browsing through this book of Calder's work. While I don't think his work is technically superior to more contemporary artists, I feel that the bare bones style of his work was intriguing.
Great big book of Calder's jewelry to pour through. It wasn't something that I knew he did in addition to his sculptures, though it makes sense once you see the organic forms. Some are wearable and others are just for looking. Out of print.
