Everytime you turn the page, there is a two page full-color spread with annotations of facts about snakes and other reptiles.
Things like: Types of venom and fangs, the most deadly snakes, how their senses work, what their organs are like, their skin etc... They also throw in fun things like snakes in Mythology. I like that one because I learned of the Cosmic Serpent legend in West Africa: When Mawu created the earth, Aido-Hwedo held it up (giant snake) to keep it from sinking into the ocean and that it is when he shifts his position, earthquakes occur. Fascinating. The pictures in the section on camouflage are amazing and the facts on how chameleons change their colors very interesting.
4★彡 That cover is ugly—not the cuddle-noodle, the font/colors—but inside, it brims with full-color glossy illustrations, artistic typography, and fascinating facts that even grown-ups can appreciate (vestigial legs? an iguana's 'third eye'? also, why does that freaky-looking file snake look like that?). The book respects young readers' intelligence and surprises even adults with its well-researched, expert-curated content.
This book has exhaustive details to know more about snakes. Me and my 3.5 year old read this over and over again several times in the past month. This is a great book to have on your shelf .
This book has large color photos of all of our slithery friends. My five year old especially loved the full spread of the spitting cobra. There are short blurbs for easy to remember facts while still going into depth for the more advanced reader. I'm glad we were able to check this book out from our library for our reptile unit.
