While I don't normally write reviews on books I've read, I felt strongly enough about this one that I wanted to express my opinion.
I wasn't aware this was a pseudo self-published book when I began reading, I discovered this when I was about 1/4 of the way through. Had I known this fact going in (my own fault for not having paid attention), I may not have taken the time to read - especially considering the number of pages.
I'm glad I took the time. I liked the main characters very much, and although we rarely got glimpses of Cray's point of view (which I would have liked), the love story between the two was believable and sensual.
That said, there were a number of negatives, and I hope the author takes some things into advisement with her next tale. The biggest suggestion I'd have is to find a professional editor. There are many, many grammatical errors, as well as added/missing words and typos. A professional editor will not only help cut these erros out, he/she may give valuable advice regarding the story itself.
I enjoyed Trust Me, but it really was far too long. To storyboard the book, not a lot happens considering the large number of pages. After the second or third hotel room, I admit I began skipping descriptions of rooms/buildings. Unless it had something to do with the story, the fact that the drapes matched the bedspread or the wood was a certain color became repetitive. Same thing with bit characters. While I like the imagination it takes to describe everyone, I'm not sure it's necessary to know everything about what the clerk at the store looks like. I appreciate the author's imagination, but it just slowed down the pace of the story.
While the sex was hot, again, there was just too much. Scene after scene, and the act becomes gratuitous. It may just be my opinion, but I'd love a deep conversation every once in a while just as much as a hot sex scene. In addition, the number of times the word blush was used became unreal. Sandra blushed after every comment. The three standard reactions were blush, laugh and frown. A little variation would have been nice.
There were a number of point of view issues as well. Most of the story was told in Sandra's point of view, but occasionally there was a shift to Cray's and it took me out of the action temporarily.
One final point (which is what I was left with after days of reading). If I invest the amount of time it takes to read a story that's almost 500 pages, I really would like an ending. To read "To Be Continued..." after all that was really frustrating. One of the cardinal rules of most romance publishers is a happily ever after or happily for now ending. Leaving it hanging like that leaves the reader very put out. I'm also not sure I want to devote that kind of time to another story, considering the negatives I found in this one.
All that said, I made it to the end of this book because I did like the characters and hoped they'd make it. There is real potential in this story, and if things were changed (an editor is a must), I'd have scored it higher. The author has a very nice voice, and with a little work and sophistication, this can be a real winner.
