In 12th century Britain, Eirik is born during the bewitching hour with frightening deformities, and he is forced to live his life in the shadows of his father's great manse. He terrifies all who dare look upon him, and is destined to lead a life of loneliness and exile, hidden away from the world while dreaming of love.
But during one nightly excursion on his father's vast lands, he happens upon a beautiful maiden in the woods. He does not know if his mind is playing tricks on him, whether she is a demon that had come to torture him by taunting him with what he could never hope to have, or is she a bittersweet dream conjured by his intense loneliness?
Isleen, however, is neither demon nor dream. She is flesh and blood, and she has come to pose a question. The answer he chooses to give her will decide his fate; whether he remains the monster of Laurenbrogue Manse or becomes the Young Master of it.
Rating: 5 stars. Thank you Miss Shields for telling me about your free eBook! I've gotten used to Miss Shield's writing style, story plot, characters and I love everything about it. There are few authors I would immediately read, without first investigating the book, the heroines sex life (and promiscuity, as I prefer virgin h with the hero as the only lover), but Miss Shields is definitely an autobuy author for me. I think it's just a matter of time until Miss Shields becomes an even more popular erotica author.
Bewitching Hour really took me be surprise because I did not expect to be drawn to this complex tale of heartache, sorrow, loneliness and love. Don't get me wrong there were several very intense scenes that were steaming hot and would still be classified as a paranormal romance, but it were the lonely times that the main character had to endure that broke my heart for him. It was a very compelling story that had me craving to learn more about the intriguing circumstance of the lead character.
Eirik had the misfortune of being born during the bewitching hour and cursed by a powerful being that had caused him to be born extremely disfigured. The moments after his birth and the disgust that people had towards him and he could sense were heartbreaking, bringing me to tears as I could clearly hear his cries of sorrow for the rejection he felt. The next part made me cry even more as his father cradled him in his arms and tenderly held him, kissed him and told him how much he loved him, soothing infant Eirik. These two two scenes will stay with me for a long time and still brings me to tears as I write this piece because it sets the stage for the this kind, and gentle soul shunned by the world and rejected by everyone. It is his love for his parents that provides him with the his only comfort as his body through the years becomes more painfully disfigured. It is a very unusual story dealing with warlocks, witches, Druid lore with the interaction of several key characters who play a role in Eirik's destiny.
Now you may be wondering where is the romance? Well I don't want to give too much away because if I tell you in detail who engages in some very hot scenes it will give too much away of Eirik's story. What I can tell you is that Eirik is not the only one that we see having very intense, passionate scenes. Eirik, on the other hand, proves that behind the monstrous exterior lies a man with a sweet, tender, passionate, loving soul and man intent to giving everything he has for the one he loves and receiving the love back.
I so much wanted to give this story an higher rating, but there were several parts of the book where the sentences were broken up and it made the story loose its flow and most of all made me wonder what was happening. I don't know if this was an issue as to how the file was converted or if it was an existing issue in how the book was originally formatted, but it was very distracting. The other thing is I wished the author provided more details about the plotline, specifically the world building and explanation for some of the turn of events. I had too many questions about who some of the secondary characters were, why were they there and what was their purpose within the story.
Overall in general I enjoyed this story and would recommend it to anyone who would enjoy reading a paranormal romance that has lots of mystery, intrigue, heartache, but most of all a male lead character who you would love to hold in your arms and tell him how much you loved him and expect to be loved passionately in return.
This was really interesting and though it was short, it was loaded! It's not as erotic as I expected but I liked the story and I'm drawn to witches, warlocks, spells, and curses. I can't imagine existing as an outcast but that's what happened with Eirik in his 21 years. Through magick he was deformed and only magick saved him. I also liked the concept of a father's unconditional love, though he was amiss in other things like physical affection. All in all, good story!
