Standing over six feet tall, USA Today bestselling author Jonathan Moeller has the piercing blue eyes of a Conan of Cimmeria, the bronze-colored hair of a Visigothic warrior-king, and the stern visage of a captain of men, none of which are useful in his career as a computer repairman, alas.

Plans with layers upon layers, plans woven by Jagrida... A terrible suit of armour, forged from arcane souls... A lone ghost Nightfighter all that stands between the world and its destruction...

I really loved that Kylon featured in the story. It really was another thrilling adventure... The Moroaica lives once again... What comes next?

A decent story, but why is the main protagonist, always a delusional sorcerer. Also I really dislike the Sicarion character but he keeps turning up in these books. The number of times he is about to be beaten then amazingly escapes is becoming really annoying.

Despite the author's need to bludgeon us over the head by constantly telling us that Caina couldn't win in a fair fight...a fair fight, so she wouldn't fight fair - I'm sorry, but unless you are jousting, dueling, or participating in a sport, there is no such thing as a "fair" fight. When you are fighting for your life you don't sit there and think about fighting fair, wtf? Then there are the places where we get a paragraph of how badly they are losing and it was all going to go bad...."unless she did something clever". Fuck it, don't think about doing something clever, just do it. OMG!!!*tears at hair* And the constant reminder that Caina feels naked without her weapons and the almost obsessive counting of how many daggers she is currently wearing.

*epic sigh*

But, when he gets into the meat of the story, the action, the intrigue, you get swept along and can forgive (mostly) the "so she wouldn't fight fair" & "Unless she did something clever."

Unfortunately...

Book 6 of Ghosts. Spoilers for earlier ones.

After a murderous and mysterious attack on Caina, Halfdan has Caina, and the newly joined Corvalis and Claudia, on a mission to the city of the Masked Ones. They are known for their sorcery, and their seclusion, which makes it all the odder that they are offering to sell a marvelous weapon to the highest bidder. They pose as a jewel merchant, his daughters, and a guard, and reach it with the many ambassadors.

The plot involves rivers of molten steel, sisters, the promise the weapon is so terrible it will end war, question about maintenance, Kylon's noticing that Caina and Corvalis are in love, red iron and the merchant who sells it, and more.

The city most of this story takes place in has been created over a strong fire elemental. The Alchemists have managed to contain the heat from a volcano like lava to make the city liveable. The canals run with this substance. A side benefit is that Caina always has hot water in which to bathe.

These Alchemists are quite reclusive so it is curious when they offer to sell an object that will give a government power over all its enemies. Why would they do this when they are mostly removed from civilization and don't desire money or power.

As always, there is a catch and Caina manages to thwart the perpetrator in spite of Claudia and Corvalis. Caina must come to grips with her feelings for Corvalis after what she perceives as a betrayal.

Ghost Forge

Caina and company travel to the mystical city of Catekharon at the invitation of the reclusive Scholae as ambassadors for the Emperor. They are joined by emissaries from every nation and magical society to preview and bid on a weapon so powerful it will end all war.

This book is really interesting because it takes us to a very unique city and culture. Plus we are introduced to a whole host of new characters from every nation. Not to mention the weapon that is for sale is epic.

One of the things I’ve loved about Caina is that she is independent and fierce and doesn’t have a love interest. I wasn’t thrilled that one was introduced into this book. Although trust and navigating a new relationship were central plot devices to move the story along. The end of the book was great. Lots of big things and plot twists happen. Ghost in the forge was okay, not my favorite book in the series but I’m still going to read the next one.

To end war or not?

What a fascinating tale this has been, the author slowly adds in New characters to mix with the old, whilst he builds an intriguing story. I found I could not put the tale down, and was surprised at the twists . All in all a very enjoyable read.

Just leads you into the next one. Of course it is the same story over and over. But I love the nuances.

One of the better books in the series, although I wish some of the characters would die already, I'm getting bored of reading about them!

This is the latest in Moeller's good "Ghost" series. I suggest starting at the beginning, although all of the stories make perfect sense as stand-alones.

Caina Amala is an orphan, taken in by the Emperor's Ghosts and trained to be a secret agent and nightfighter. The Ghosts protect the Empire (think Byzantium at its height) against evil sorcery foreign and domestic, as well as more mundane bad guys. They don't officially exist.

In this one, a clumsy group of unworldly wizards and a set of villians with cross purposes, unintentionally conspire to unleash chaos on several of the polities around the Empire. They've created a powerful weapon and plan to sell it to the highest bidder. The hope is it will be a weapon to end all wars. Yeah, like that's worked well before. Caina's game is a little off, since she's finally fallen in love, or at least a lot of like. That's probably not going to go well for the villians since he's an ex-assassin. Even Caina on an off day, backed up by her new lover and her old mentor, Halfdan can probably handle the bad guys. Probably.

Embassies from all over the world are on the way to Catekharon, where a mysterious sorcerous weapon of enormous destructive power is offered for sale to the highest bidder. In the entourage of the Nighmarian ambassador, Caina, Halfdan and new Ghost recruits Claudia and Corvalis infiltrate the city to ascertain both the weapon's nature and the seller's true objective - and to ensure the weapon won't fall into the wronghands. Another great entry in the series with a relentless pace, lots of action and a story that keeps you hooked from page one. Through her relationship with Corvalis, we get to see another a little vulnerable side of Caina. I was also thrilled to see Kylon again as I found him to be a very interesting character - I'm already looking forward to his and Caina's next encounter.

The ghost series is IMHO the best of Johnathan Moellers works.
The characters are well written and the storylines interesting.

The series does not suffer from the usual problems of epic fantasy works - where the characters become ever more powerful.
In this book we start to see changes to Caina - and not in the way I expected with Jadriga.

A city of mages seek to sell the ultimate weapon to the highest bidder. With the empire and new Kyre embroiled in a mutually destructive war everyone seeks control of the weapon.
At the same time a powerful mage seeks to kill Jadriga and Caina happens to be in the way.

The politics and world is starting to come together quite well and this series i can see going on and on quite happily.

And still this series keeps getting better. Caina, her new guy Corvalis, and the rest of the gang are off to a mysterious city of sorcerers to try to prevent them from auctioning off a devastating weapon to the highest bidder. Danger, action, and sorcery abound, and I liked seeing Caina grow as she deals with trust issues in her relationship with Corvalis and faces her prejudice against sorcerers in dealing with his sister, a renegade Magus. Plus, magical mechas. What more do I need to say?

Another quick read with just the right pace to keep you turning the pages. The Ebook has some poor spelling and there are a few glaring errors in the formatting (mismatched verb tenses etc). However; it is not enough to stop or muddle the story.
