Club Desire #1

Bound By Desire

Rate this book
Denise has always been a strong woman and the men in her life have expected her to be just as demanding and dominating under the covers. She never met the man that made her heart pulse with desire or who took control, because she was always in control, and it left her empty inside. Despite a successful career, and graduating at the top of her class in the FBI academy, she never had the same success in love. Her problem was she held a secret that she didn't even want to admit to herself. A secret so dark and twisted that she pushed it to the bottom of her heart and hid it there. She had a secret desire to feel conquered, and completely ravished in bed. She wanted to be tied up and teased until she cried out in ecstasy. Denise never met the man she felt safe sharing her secret desire to submit to.

Until the day she met Victor.

Victor has a few private BDSM sex parties a month for those who like to indulge in fantasies of domination and submission. He is a master of pain and pleasure, and all she needs is an invitation...

This book... I guess you can say I enjoyed it, for the most part. I mean, I liked the two main characters. What I didn't like was the relationship... I guess that's what put me off a little. Don't get me wrong, I've read my fair share of BDSM novels and haven't had a problem with the lifestyle, I mean I've even read documentaries on the lifestyle to better grasp what people who are into the lifestyle feel (as research as a writer), but their relationship didn't quite fit into that lifestyle that Victor was the leader of. And only once did he mention, towards the end of the novel, that he didn't mind 'vanilla' with our heroine.

I guess I wanted more from it. It was an easy and quick read and I was able to finish it, which says that it was a good read. I just wanted the clicking moment when all the lights go on and their relationship spurs into something besides a dom/sub relationship and that didn't happen. Their relationship developed off the pages of the novel and we are left with just trusting that that clicking moment happened.

Pass

I'm going to assume this is the author's first book because anything else would make me really upset. The writing is so stilted. It doesn't flow or feel natural. There is nothing believable about the characters or plot either. Do yourself a favor and pass this one by.

I am torn between giving this book 1 or 2 stars as I could see where the author was trying to go with it but she just didn't quite get there in my opinion. On the other hand this was free from Amazon so on a price front I can't complain.
I found the book hard to read and at certain points, I was close to giving it in as a bad job but I battled on to the unsurprising end. This book definitely needed to have a re-read and edit before going anywhere near been published as there are a ridiculous amount of mistakes and half of the time I couldn't work out which characters thoughts/speech the text was referring to.
The book's plot was also strange and, although I could see it working if time was spent on properly writing it, it was all just very rushed. This meant that it is pretty much unbelievable and you never quite get the chance to engage with this plot as, by the time you get your head round the part you're reading, it has already moved onto a different time/scene entirely.
I wouldn't necessarily tell you not to try this book as it is free at the minute, plus some of the reviews on here are positive so some people must like it but I don't think I'll be reading this author again - unless the books are free and I'm very bored... There are lots of better books out there and I suppose you kind of get what you pay for, don't you?

It is truly a rare occasion that I will do a review of any book that will include so many shortcomings, but there are times I just can’t avoid a negative review. This particular title is one of those times. Bound by Desire is miserable. I can virtually guarantee you that it saw no edit pass before publication and no re-writes. The writing is rife with redundant word usage, poor word choice and grammatical errors that any quick read through would have pointed out. The tale itself is poorly contrived in that a contemporary, educated woman in law enforcement for 6 years, would not be swooning over a new boss in a matter of days, nor would that management level FBI special agent be having intimate relations with one of his supervisees within two months. Both would lose their jobs. Oh please Ms. Lyons, do a bit of research and edit and re-write next time … if there is a next time.

The story was fairly well written with only small annoyances with quotes and other punctuation. The book touts itself as Dom/sub and bondage, but frankly, if you are getting the book because you enjoy serious BDSM, Dom/sub, and a bit of bondage, you are in for a major disappointment... light spanking, a laid back dom and a mouthy sub (yes, lowercase for both), minor rope play only prove that the author has no idea about the lifestyle (or is too embarrassed to talk about it properly). The story line is implausible, the sex is vanilla, and the characters are flat and uninteresting. Only read it because it was free and a quick read. Its an okay read, that doesn't inspire me to go find anything else written by this author.

Denise is a strong woman fighting her way in the male dominated world. She is the new FBI agent and doesn't want to show any weaknesses. But she secretly desires a strong man to dominate her and spank her in the bedroom. She gets invited to s "special party" where she shows up in disguise and Victor, her boss, shows her domination, her submission, bondage, spankings and a really good night.

It was a really good read. Not a long novel, but not those short short teaser reads. You get what you pay for.

I would consider this on the tamer scale of dom/sub. Has some BDSM aspects like discipline such as spanking. The only toy used wasa vibrator in one scene.

(My review from amazon.com provided for the free read)

Ok... Pretty good short story.

My quick thoughts:
- The first half of the book felt a but to boring, and it was a bit annoying, but it does help so we have a background story.

- I like how Victor new that 'Dee' was Denise almost instantly, and how he accepted it as well. Also if she hasn't shown up at that party nothing would've possibly happened. I love how Victor's ready to satisfy her in every way, and she's willing to tell him what she wants. Which usually takes a while, but their bond of trust was instantly formed.

Overall:
If it wasn't free on my kindle I'd find it a waste of money, but since it was free it made it better then it was :)

This story was truly a disappointment. Lyons had some great ideas, and the characters had the potential to become something great and part of a great story. Instead, she fell incredibly short. The story line jumped too fast. There's a missing child, missing child found. Was there a point to it? The sex scenes seemed to be written by someone with little to no experience with the type of sex she was writing about. BDSM is its own world, its own set of rules and satisfactions. She may be curious about the things she was writing about, but her lack of detail and the way she rushed through them tells me that it is little more than that.

A good idea for a story, mixed with unbelievable dialogue and behaviors. For a strong woman, nothing about her in the story came across that way. Men don't offer to let you talk about your feelings, and a sexy story can be ruined by throwing in "I love you"s and a HEA ending. Grammar and editing mistakes don't distract, but for a 2nd publishing there is no excuse.

I didn't hate this book, it was a good read but I did find that the characters lacked some depth. The story was ok but needed more background. It's worth a read as it was a free download but wouldn't read it again.

There was a plot and it was ok, however there were way too many errors & inconsistencies, very distracting. Also misleading as it is advertised as erotica BDSM but instead I found it to be vanilla erotica. It is a shame but I cannot give it more than a 1 star.

It was an S&M short story that tried to pack too much in and have a plot. And I didn't really like either of the characters, she was too much of an idiot for me. And he was too perfect, like he had no flaws at all.
