Rate this book
This is a specially priced box set of three novels in the Jack Daniels thriller series (#4, #5, #6).

D I R T Y M A R T I N I

In Whiskey Sour, Chicago police Lieutenant Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels hunted down a killer dubbed "The Gingerbread Man."

In Bloody Mary, she busted a psychopath with a penchant for dismemberment.

In Rusty Nail, it was a serial killer with a doozy of a family tree.

And now, in Dirty Martini, Jack faces her toughest adversary yet: a sicko who's poisoning the city's food supply. But that's just the start of what he has planned, because he's aiming to kill fifty thousand people in the single biggest act of terrorism the US has ever seen. Can she stop him — and decide whether to accept boyfriend Latham's surprise proposal — without destroying both her reputation and her sanity?

Join Jack, her partner Herb, and her nemesis Harry McGlade, for her fourth, and greatest, case so far.

F U Z Z Y N A V E L

Things are going well for Lieutenant Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels of the Chicago Police Department. She has solved some of the city's toughest and most high-profile homicides. Her personal life is finally in order. Her friends and family are safe and happy. And she just got a call that eased her mind like nothing else could: Alex Kork, one of the most dangerous criminals Jack ever arrested, killed herself while in jail.

But things sour quickly when a group of vigilantes on a murderous spree decide to take down a cop and the people she cares about ... and they turn downright awful when Jack discovers that Kork may not be dead after all.

Trapped in her house with a psycho and everyone she cares about, and unable to leave because she's surrounded by snipers, the next eight hours will be the worst of Jack's life. And that's saying something.

Fuzzy Navel is Jack's fifth adventure, perfect for readers who like their mysteries with a shot of humor.

C H E R R Y B O M B

At the end of Fuzzy Navel, J. A. Konrath surprised readers with an agonizing cliffhanger: One of Lieutenant Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels's loved ones is dead. But who? Readers were left clamoring to know more.

Cherry Bomb, the sixth Jack Daniels mystery, opens at the funeral. While Jack stands graveside, tears in her eyes, her cell phone rings. It's the killer, escaped maniac Alex Kork, taunting Jack, drawing her ever further into a twisted game of cat and mouse. Because while Alex is more than willing to kill random victims, Jack is her true prey. But which woman wants revenge more?

Cherry Bomb is J. A. Konrath's most gripping novel of suspense yet—filled with twists and turns that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

If you are a more sensitive (or adventurous) reader, the Konrath scale rates specific categories from 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest) to give you some idea if this is your kind of book.

Wow. What an awesome, awesome set of stories. Dirty Martini was creepy and suspenseful and I absolutely loved the twists and turns about a guy who was deliberately poisoning the city. I thought I knew who the poisoner was, as well as why. I did guess who the villain was, but I was completely thrown by the reasons. Crazy.

Fuzzy Navel was a wild ride. I loved that it had the events in real time, hour by hour. Now yes, the circumstances were kind of outlandish. Jack is trapped with her loved ones inside her house, where she is being held hostage by a crazed serial killer. Meanwhile, there is a set of snipers outside her house, just waiting to kill everyone inside. Man, that was a crazy, crazy roller coaster. The ending was an insane cliffhanger.

Cherry Bomb was a rough one. It was sad and emotional because of what Jack had been through and it was also suspenseful. It was just a nonstop thrill ride. There was a lot of character development with Jack and I thought it was realistic and I thought the author did a great job of showing that without slowing down the plot.

AMAZING STORIES!

I'm really enjoying the series and will definitely continue with the next set of books.

In Dirty Martini, I made the mistake of thinking I kind of knew who the villain was, but damn, learning how I missed the mark, I laugh that I actually did not guess that one better. I knew how Jack felt when she made the same mistake ;)

A serial killer who actually took the time to learn a variety of ways to poison a person, and the intricacies of the traps was almost unbelievable. The fact that the killer did not accidentally kill himself also shocked me. And his justification for why he went through the effort and no one knew or suspected was kind of suspicious, but otherwise, another suspenseful Jack Daniels book.

In Fuzzy Navel, it gets a little more outrageous. Is it hard to believe that you can be taken hostage? No, but definitely insane that you also get caught up in the cross-hairs of a sniper group. And the group itself was a tad unbelievable. Yep, I can definitely see one crazy person, but the fact that the other two just fell in line? They didn't come across as nut jobs, but ok. I did find the style of this book interesting. It could be really weird for some, but getting the different perspectives also grounded the story too. I'm also not quite on board with how Alex managed to escape. There has to be cameras somewhere to prevent that sort of thing from happening.

In Cherry Bomb, this one was scary. How do you locate a psycho killing people while you are acting like a lone wolf? The fact that you cannot keep an eye on all those you love, and the fact that you already lost one of them is hard enough. In this one, I have to admit that I did not always like Jack. Is Harry a pain in the a$$? Yep, absolutely. Did Phin cross a line? No, I don't think so. Made a bad call, sure. Does that mean Jack can be a bitch? Not exactly, but I did cut her some slack given she is the person who is supposed to suffer the most. I was just a little irked that I was made to want to slap our heroine for being such a sh!t. People like Alex should not have been able to get away as easy as she did with NO ONE seeing or acting on her behavior. Luckily, I am just reading a book or I would be an even more paranoid person than I am now.

So, at the end, am I surprised at the losses, no. One more than the other bothered me, but she kind of ended where I thought she would from the first book. Looking forward to the next set.

DIRTY MARTINI
Another psycho going about injecting or spraying a toxin on foods, shoes, making people suddenly die. Chief puts Jack as the lead, some don’t like the calls she makes while trying to grasp what is going on. It is scary and hits home for Jack when Latham gets sick from the food she brought an the deli. Fast action from beginning to the end. With a surprise for Latham from Jack at the end.
FUZZY NAVEL
Jack and Herb her partner called to a murder scene, was done by a sniper. Now sniper is shooting at them, and Herb got hit in the calf, one of her men is killed. Trying to call her Mom or Latham goes to voice mail, then a call to come home, something is wrong. Alex is alive, not a suicide in the jail as she had just been told. Her mother has duct tape over her mouth. Jack is to get Harry over to the house, did he pick up the odd message. The next hours are tense, gritty, and violent who will come out alive.
CHERRY BOMB
It opens at a funeral, a love one for Jack is gone, for having loved the wrong person. This has changed Jack, the cat and mouse game with Alex is deadly. Things changed a badge is turned in. Revenge is her motive to be sure this time that Alex is dead. Will she become a PI and still hunt the bad guys. Tense to the ending, with questions of how the next in series will be about.

my review

The story lines in these three novels I enjoyed very much. I’ve got to say that whoever edited these stores should go back to school. I usually find a mistake in each book I read but in this book it was ridiculous. No capitals for first or last names in some places, some words with spaces between them, example to morr ow , hyphenated words were hyphenated in wrong places . I could go on but why bother I’ll never read this author again.

More fun with Jack Daniels and her friends and colleagues.

Dirty Martini: She chases a psycho poisoning Chicago's food.
Fuzzy Navel: Battling three vigilantes hell-bent on killing known perverts AND Jack.
Cherry Bomb: Being chased by a killer she has faced in the past. One she thought was dead.

Great thrillers!

I read the first three books many years ago. These three are a great continuation of the story. Jacqueline Daniels and the many quirky characters in the series give lots of laughs, and tons of tense moments. Definitely check them out if you like thrillers, that also have a heart...and a laugh or two

Kudos to JA Konrath! Thank you for an awesome character;
Jack Daniels; endearing, kick ass, compassionate, driven and down to earth.
The mysteries keep you guessing, laughing, sometimes crying but always shoulder to shoulder with Jack.
I look forward to many more escapades with Jack and company!

I can't get enough of these books. They are action packed, hysterical and thought provoking. A heroine who isn't even close to perfect. A bevy of bad guys gets thwarted by a team of misfits. I have read and re-read every book. I love Jack and the gang.

Book 4:
In this installment we follow Lt. Jack Daniels on her hunt for a murder, that uses poison to kill his victims. While I prefer the blood and guts we normally get from murder mysteries I think the author did a great job making this story realistic, and probably scarier for most. Since with the mass poisoning anyone could be a victim, there is no picking and choosing, it's just open to everyone. I really have become quite attached to Jack and following her personal life. This series is quite entertaining, even without the gore, too bad real police work doesn't work this way. Looking forward to book 5.
Book 5:
I have grown so addicted to this series. Lt Jack Daniels is faced with a new set of challenges in each book, a new killer or an old one that came back for a few more haunts. This book is entirely personal for Jack. An old killer escapes and has her eyes pinned on Jack. The story line is fast paced, alternating between a lot of characters in a very specific time frame. The author did a great job keeping each character alive and their stories straight and entertaining. I was surprised at how well the story flowed as much as it jumped. Fantastic read that ends on one heck of a cliff hanger. Can't wait to start the next book.
Book 6:
This is a great read that follows the story of Lt. jack Daniels. Each book tells an adventure in her police life of catching a serial killer. These books do need to be read in order for better understanding. In this book we follow Jack on her hunt to find Alex, who is bound and determined to ruin and kill everyone in Jack's life. This story closes a few chapters, but leaves quite a few things open. I am grateful the author decided to write a few more stories after this one. I have grown quite attached to this series, the books are entertaining and filled with mystery and humor.

Not graphic?

That author underlines that violence is not graphically described. Yet the descriptions of killer Alex's internal dialogue is absolutely chilling. The violence doesn't need to be graphic as we have shared Alex's delight in the pain she plans to cause and we almost become complicit with her in anticipating the horror of what is to come. Of course, Jack triumphs in the end, but the death count in this trilogy is appalling and I can't understand how Jack and Herb haven't been invalided out due to permanent and irreversible brain damage. I don't think 'enjoyed' is the right word, but the books are great thrillers. Often edge of the seat. Though Konrath came close to jumping the shark a couple of times. But highly recommended for adrenaline junkies who don't. I don't missing out on sleep.

I just felt like a binge on Konrath's flavorful mix of cocktails, starting with a heavy shot of Jack Daniels. This set of three of Konrath's novels was just the thing for me. Jacqueline Daniels would have hardly been a suitable name for this police detective, who comes on hard and goes down velvety smooth. Her passion and almost obsessive focus on the chase and her determination to bring down the bad guys, leaves almost no time for Jack to have a private life. Her partners just have to grab on and go for the wild ride. Konrath has a winner in his character, a one of a kind, female police detective. She's rough and tough, but Konrath has room for a little humor in each of his stories.

I really enjoyed the first three in this series. However, by the time I got to four, five and six, the writing was falling apart. The characters were flatter and the fight scenes were beyond believable. I felt like I was reading a action-packed movie, moving from action to action without much in between.

Three Thriller Novels- Jack Daniels series

Good read. Glad they were all in one because none of them would work as a stand alone. I was a little confused about the relationship between Jack and Harry and even at the end I wanted more clarification. But lots of killing, torture and suspense to keep the reader's interest.

Sometimes the Good Girls Win

Jack Daniels pays a high price for being a good detective. It takes her down a long path toward what she hopes is the ending she has had in mind for over twenty years on the force.

Someone really should make a TV series out of these "Jack Daniels" books. They are wildly entertaining. The books really come to life! I even have stars picked out for most of the main characters.
