Magic at Work

Rate this book
Lexi Adams suffers from extreme job dissatisfaction. The only things she finds challenging are the sexy IT guy and the on-line erotic romance novel she discovers, starring her spitting image. Unfortunately, the man is insufferable, and the novel only accessible at work.

Aware Lexi’s workload doesn’t meet her potential, Ric Ackart, head of the IT department, decides to find out what she does in front of her computer screen all day. His surprise at what he finds is overshadowed by the fact that the novel's leading man shares his face and the name he used years ago.

Despite their stubbornness, the two can’t deny the explosive chemistry between them. Ric is forced to come to terms with his feelings, but Lexi isn't willing to give him more than her body.

An unlikely ally and a touch of magic may be just what Lexi needs, to accept the gift fate has thrown her way—true love.

Sotia Lazu

Sotia cries at sappy movies and wishes she could take in all the stray dogs in the world. She lives in Athens, Greece, with her husband--whom she met through writing--their son, and their two rescue dogs, one of which might be part-pony.

Her genres of choice are romances with a twist and urban fantasy novels, always with vivid erotic elements. Her characters aren't exactly hero-material at first glance; she likes making them fight for their happiness. Still, the romantic in her can’t resist happy endings.

My original Magic at Work audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer.
Magic at Work was a very cute enemy to lovers, sexy office romance with a tiny dash of paranormal. The magical element worked well even for somebody who is not really into this genre.
Lexi has trust issues and feels insecure. After a failed relationship, she is working in her stepdad’s company. She has settled for mundane work. She has settled for sex rather than love. One day, she finds an erotic paranormal novel on her office computer and becomes totally captivated by it. Ric is the company’s IT guy who used to be a bit of a bad boy but is now reformed thanks to Lexi’s stepdad. He also appears to be Rex, the hot male protagonist in Lexi’s online novel.

Sotia Lazu once again showed that she can write erotic scenes with just the right steaminess factor. I like that she keeps it classy rather than swerving towards smutty. She created a great cast of protagonists and side characters. Lexi’s Mum and her stepdad were wonderful. The snarky banter between Lexi and Ric/Rex was hilarious.

Overall, I really enjoyed the narration by Hollie Jackson. She was great at delivering the humor and all the emotions involved. Her narration was lively and the voices distinct, so you always knew who was talking. The only thing that took me a while to get used to were the British accents used for Ric and for Lexi’s stepdad. They would have been more believable if they had been a bit more dimmed, not quite so much like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. There were no issues with the quality of the production.

This was a really funny, light and romantic story, which was well written and held my attention throughout. Recommended for any fans of contemporary sexy romances who don’t mind a hint of magic.

THE SHORT: Definitely recommend this funny, light-hearted ROMcontemp with an unusual PNR twist. A welcomed change from the overly angst-ridden stories flooding the market of late, I think that “Magic at Work” will appeal to a wide range of romance lovers—so long as they can handle the smokin’ erotic moments. *wink*

Gotta say i LOVED how Richard aka Ric aka Rex aka Richie (read the book, you'll GET why he has so many names :) ) could be such an alpha, dominant, dirty-talker and YET also be so devastated by Lexi's actions... a SMOKIN' HOT and UTTERLY SWEET read!

*SIGH* LOVE IT when an author does justice to the enemies-to-lovers trope (my FAVORITE trope in the world!!!)

This was a joy to read!!! An erotic tail with a little paranormal twist and with lots of very funny moments that made me LOL in public... (yes!!! I saw people staring at me like... "is she crazy?").

The female lead as many had serious trust issues, but she was fun and witty and very inventive with her snarky comments and comebacks. Ric/Rex was just swoon worthy... the super-hot computer geek with a hidden personality, yet he was very sweet and total gentleman... actually he was just so darn cute :).

The supporting characters where great.. I loved Angie and I thought it was cool that the author went the other way with her.. Meaning that in this book we don't get the typical stereotype guy gay friend... instead we get a girl! Also... Lizzie/Xandras' stepdad!!! just a wonderful soul :)

And let me tell you, Sotia really knows how to write steamy... hot hot hot hot...without making the book smut......(because I am not a big fan of plain ol' smut) nicely done!!!

I recommend this book to anyone who likes a sexy erotic office romance with a very cute HEA!!! and doesn't mind a little fantasy thrown their way!

Magic at work was a really cute funny read. The two main characters, Lexi and Ric, are well written and completely likable. I found Lexi witty and funny, definitely a smart cookie. Ric is very sweet and cute. Almost a little too cute. I would like to seen a bit more of his bad boy persona come through. Their back and forth banter was snarky and full of snappy comebacks. The sex between Lexi and Ric is steamy hot without being over the top smutty. Best sex scene hands down was the broom closet but my absolute favorite part of the book is what Edmund finds in Lexi's shower. Oh the embarrassment, oh the humiliation, oh I could NOT stop laughing. Sorry, no spoilers here. If you want to know you'll have to read the book. I did however, found myself confused over Edmund. He is supposed to be an older person but to me I felt he was written someone younger than I perceived him to be. But other than that I found the secondary characters were quite charming.

I really feel the need to mention the cover. It's what really drew me in to read Magic at Work. I Love the cover! I found it very sexy and playful at the same time. I even did a double take on the @ symbol in place of the word 'At'. I good cover I think really makes the book and this cover really did it for me.

I know this book is classified as erotic romance, however, author Sotia Lazu manages to present the story line (interlaced with steamy sex) without it having come out all smutty. If you're looking for a fun read, Magic At Work was definitely a great way to pass the afternoon.

WOW. This was a 'can't put down' book for me. I mean, it was a reading while feeding the baby, lock yourself in the bathroom and read on the edge of the tub kind of read. It was witty, entertaining and oh so addictive.

I loved Ric, aka Rex. He was an amazing character with real depth and interest. I enjoyed his transformations throughout the book, finally being able to reconcile his dual personalities. Lexi was a well rounded character although at some points I really wanted to smack her for being so bull-headed and oblivious. The supporting characters were also very well written. I couldn't help laughing at Mr. Pedelty's reactions to the situations Lexi and Rex created.

This plot was a fairly typical one but Ms. Lazu was able to write it in such a compelling way that it seemed fresh and inviting and oh-so-steamy. My one complaint is that I was so disappointed to see a sexy man chest covered up. It seems truly a crime.

What a great author and I am on edge waiting for more.

Cute & funny CR with a hint of magic. Lexi is a woman who does not value herself and Ric is a man who has finally figured out who he is, what he wants and how to get it. This had a lot of the tried-and-true cliches of the modern world - with a twist!

For instance our heroine is the bosses daughter but she doesn't want to use that to move up in the company - in fact she actually feels unworthy of the small amount of responsibility she has been given. She struggles with this inner sense of inadequacy all through the book. When the reasons for these feelings are exposed, she must begin to trust herself and open hearself up to the possiblities a world with magic and true love can bring.

This book is HAWT!!! Let me just say that working late never had such appeal until now hehe.

I look forward to reading more from Sotia in the future.

ETA - For some silly reason I started this review at 2 am this morning and obviuosly fell asleep halfway through. *blush* I apologize for not making sense and hope I have fixed it. :-)

This story is light-hearted, flirty, and fun with a dash of paranormal.

The characters are well developed as well as the plot minus the drama that some of the stories have lately.

The chemistry and attraction between the two main characters, Lexi and Ric, is instantaneous and smoking hot which only leads to tension filled banter between the two.

A mixture of modern office and magic. Normally office romance can be trashy and be all about the sexual satisfaction of the boss. This is NOT a story like that, but more a story of mutual attraction, by two people who have their own problems in their pasts, and had to find a way to put that past behind them. Then there is a small topic of a very explicit ebook, that have both people represented through it's story. It is a catalyst for some very amusing and non professional behavior in a work situation.
I listened to the audio rendition of this book, and loved the portrayal of the characters' voices by the reader. The author has painted the pictures by the words, but thr reader's portrayal of the characters, just turns still life to a movie.

Short review. Light-hearted, funny, steamy, enemies to lover office romance with a little bit of magic. Likable characters from the main characters to the secondary characters that had me wishing the book was longer.

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. I found this story cute with a dream-like theme. Lexi's work environment isn't anything like I have experienced. Lucky girl. She and the IT guy have discovered magic in and out of the computer. Not a fan of the narrator.

Sotia's book always have me thinking "sleep is for the weak." I just couldn't put the book down and when I dis it was only because my kindle died. A great paced romance. Lexie and be through some rough times and doesn't want to believe in love and its possibilities, but hey with a little magic anything is possible right, if you believe in that sort of thing (which Lexie doesn't of course). Ric is just a regular guy with a little bit of a bad boy past just going through the motions. Things change for the both of them once a book comes into play. 😏 Real life insecurities, snark like you won't believe, and some (actually alot) of steam. Where will the magic lead them? Believe you'll want to kind out.❤

Funny, hot, fast-paced read!!!
Only there were people at the office, and he'd earn himself a slap or worse if he tried to bend her over his desk and fuck her. by Ric

Lexi was bored with her job. It didn't let her explore her capabilities, so she ended up having too much time on her hands. Until she found this most erotic romance novel online and couldn't stop reading it, when she should be working. Better than reading her ebook, only doing it herself. But the problem was, she only wanted sex, not the relationship that usually came attached to it. Is love worth all the pain that comes with it?

Ric was surviving. For the last couple of years he has straitened his act, become the responsible one, but something was missing. He didn't know what, until he saw it; and decided after an inner debate, that he must have it. The problem was, the "it" in question hated his guts. How could he turn things in his favor to start living again?

Magic At Work has a very creative plot that kept me guessing until the end. The story is well written, with a few plot twists and a lot of good laughs.

The characters were good ones, but I had some trouble relating with Lexi. Ok, sometimes. Because, I could totally relate when she started reading her book and forgot about the world around her. The squirming on the seat while reading a really hot scene while you are in a totally inappropriate place surrounded by people. Yeah, totally relatable! :) But then, Lexi, described herself like that:
I'm stubborn, and I'm bitchy, and I'm whiny and weird, and I don't believe in love.

After that speech, I totally got her. She knew she was difficult and she was trying to work on it.

I don't know what is not to like about Ric. He is hot, smart, loving, perceptive, patient and has a British accent. Just to add to the mix, he has a big junk and knows how to work with his magical tool. As I said: HOT!!!

Ms. Lazu is an expert of writing steamy scenes. They are all so memorable and well developed, at the same time they are not accessories inside the story. They are relevant and great additions to the plot. Oh, I could talk about the scene on the desk, on the table, on the closet... yeah, MEMORABLE!

Oh, I can't forget to mention again how much fun this book was. I laughed out loud so many times.
You didn't think to wear a condom? That should be on autopilot. You wanna stick your dick in someone? You wrap it up first. by Lexi

P.S: I always rate my covers. I believe my reading journeys start when I choose the book. The first thing I do, is try to see what story the cover tells me. I would buy Magic at Work without even reading the blurb. Yeah, it's risky, but I do it all the time. Looking at it I would guess this was going to be a hot ride with some paranormal elements and a mouthwatering hero.
You MAY buy this book because you enjoy the author; you SHOULD get this book if you are looking for a panty-wetter hero; but you MUST read this book if you are willing to laugh out loud while suffering hot flashes!!!

I wanted to like this book more than I did. The premise sounds so good! I just didn't think it was executed all that well. Lexi is kind of down on her luck and she's working for her stepdad. She randomly finds a sexy book on her computer and starts reading it. The IT guy at her work is kind of a jerk but also hot... we all know where this goes right? It's an office romance/enemies to lovers. And the more I think about it the more I am changing my mind and liking it. It was cute and I absolutely recommend it.

Really a 4.5. Damn the lack of half stars.

This book was gifted to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Having read others of the author’s work, I at least knew I was going to get a good, hot story. Pleased to say, it was more than good.

Now we’ve all slacked at work, delved into fanfictions or ebooks on a minimised browser while pretending to work. Don’t deny it. Lexi is no different. She’s just a normal girl who is led into fantasies, stuck in a boring office with nothing to do but mundane work. Who doesn’t want an abrasive, kinda rude Brit as eye candy? I found I do. But she doesn’t.

The concept of this story is a wonderful weave of sex, confusion, UST and stubbornness. I love the play on a novel within a novel to bring the two main characters into a sexual intimacy early on ie someone is being naughty after hours and she hasn’t the sense to check for any co-workers. Luckily, he’s a gentleman. Sort of.

As with previous stories, I found this to be descriptive, well written and intriguing, the author’s ability to capture emotion and conflict flowing easily through subtle characterisation.
I have to say, I got hooked. It was very easy to finish in one sitting, happily growling at the characters when they wallowed in misunderstandings and wanting to bang their heads together or lock them in a room together. Emotions are complex and the heroine has more reason to confuse her own feelings than most.

She is smart, snarky and wasted on a job she could do in her sleep. Not the typical bimbo, she sometimes plays into that in order to make her defenses more meaningful, though the hero never really thinks she’s a bimbo, she just thinks he does. She’s insecure, she’s been burned and she doesn’t believe in love. She believes in sex. She needs to be shook up.

Enter Nice-but-definitely-naughty IT guy Ric and let the sparks fly. He’s a hacker nerd and reformed bad-boy with a British accent and all the manners and passion to drive her wild.
Why are all the sexy infuriating Brit’s in the US? British Girl right here wants one.
The author manages to get you on both of their sides, I didn’t have a favourite, I wanted to smack sense into them both in equal measures. Written from both POV, led it to be infuriating and sympathetic. It was easy to be frustrated and understanding of both characters and their motivations for words and actions, which brought the story together nicely.

They are both so stubborn and he has some form of multi personality disorder, but I liked it.
Throw in heap loads of unknown exhibitionism, naughty office relief and kinky encounters and you have a hot sex filled love story that makes you believe in magic and soulmates.

A charming, funny read with a lot of misunderstandings, meddling parents and nosey friends.

An absolute recommend.

Do NOT Miss This One!!

Holy cow, what a totally fun, quirky, romance with comedic and paranormal elements. This was so fresh and different, with just a dash of paranormal influence that even those who aren't fans of PNR will love this book. (I DO very much love me my shifters, dragons, fae, vamps and demons, etc., but I also love romances without them.) This is a perfect melding of the two. Oh yeah, and it is HOT!! Damn hot. Sotia Lazu managed to create interesting, likable characters and gave them depth and passion and made the rather mundane settings of the office and the IT department magically sexy places to be. I don't like spoilers or rehashing the story blurb above. I will just tell you that I LOVED THIS SO MUCH. Get it. You will NOT be disappointed.

AUDIO REVIEW: Hollie Jackson does an excellent job taking the words on the page and bringing them to life with the right amount of inflection and emotion. She does passable British accents (one more refined and one more Cockney). Her delivery of the dialogue and interpretation of the chemistry between Lexi/Zandra and Ric/Rex, as well as all the other characters, was simply perfect. I have only heard a couple of her performances, but "narrator" doesn't seem the right title for her.

Bottom line: Magic at Work was so much fun, and I can't wait for more of this series AND this author AND this performer. Win-Win-Win.

I was very skeptical with the title but it skept showing up on my browser for months and I decided to buy it but didn't read till yesterday. I saw good review. but what made me put a brake on this book was the title plus the paranormal thing.
but I'm wrong I really liked this book and took my time to read it because it was lovely cute. every single character in that one. cliffhanger nope. but ain't a boring book. it was all about feelings. belief and love.
anguish for the male character. male in ponytale to dying hair to cutting hair never imagine someone could be that sexy and woth a big heart and totally loyal and lovely. he celt love being crush and sad but totally deserve his soul mate and the rest of his life. sappy is definitely good.
as for lexy she came from far. it wasn't easy for her to found her ground and to believe in love and life and more.
I really really enjoyed this one so much. reading in reading a book.
as for the friends thats a top relationship. the parents the step dad. gosh that's second chance and love

Light, fun and entertaining .
Liked the concept of the story.

While the story was a fun and easy listen it took me a while to get into this book, didn’t really get interested until about an hour in. There was just something missing for me. This was not one of those books I rushed back to in order to find out what was going to happen next.

Steamy sex scenes. If you don't like a lot sex in your books this is not the book for you.

Loved Ric's character, Lexi was just likable.
Two stubborn people Lexi Adams and Ric Ackart are each dealing with their own issues, with a little magical help, a bit of humor and a lot of sex they find their HEA.

Hollie Jackson did a good job with the narration. Nice voice easy on the ears. Loved the accent she gave to Ric. Wouldn’t really call it a British accent but it fit his character. Great timing with the humorous parts of the story.

I listened to this book on audio. It is a cute story, a nice easy listen. Although there was romantic drama, it was nothing too intense (except the sex); basically just a sweet love story with a couple of twists. However, I thought that the narration by Hollie Jackson was great and made the story so much more. Her characterization of Rex was great. I'm curious to see if there will be more in this series as I was intrigued by Angie and Sarah and would like to find out more of their witchy ways --- Is there a pantheon of lesser gods who aid the witches in other endeavors? There seemed to be a lot of back story to Lexi's step-father and her mother that was intriguing as well.

Worth the listen and, more to the point, worth your time. I was given a free copy of this narration for an honest review.

Light paranormal romance set in a work cubicle environment...

Alexandra "Lexi" Adams surfs the net for an ebook to kill some time at work. She stumbles across an erotic paranormal romance with a heroine who looks like her and even has a similar name (Xandra). The hero in the story looks suspiciously like Ric, the snooty IT guy who works within view of her cubicle. The weird thing is that the book can only be accessed from her work computer. Lexi quickly gets addicted to reading the erotic online story and steamy romance busts out at the office. Is life imitating art or vice versa?

Magic at Work is steamy escapist fun with a sweet romance. Enjoy.

I usually love what this author writes, this book was very well written but not the authors best work IMO.
Lexi and Ric`s story is a very cute CR with a twist. I loved the story between them, maybe a bit sugary sweet at the end but that was ok.
The H/h was very nicely written and Ric was a total hunk. Lexi was a strong willed girl with some scars on her own. Some of the love/sex scenes in it were not my cup of tea, so therefore I cannot give it full score. But I do give this book 3,5-4 stars.

I don't do paranormal, but I was offered this book in exchange for my unbiased review by Audiobook Boom and took a chance.

It was a delightfully sweet and flirty listen for me without being paranormal/fantasy enough to bother me, it was like a sexy, fun read with paranormal waved over the top. Just enough.

I really enjoyed it, I didn't hit pause at all and my day flew by!

The narrator... Really good until she does the British accent. Sounds like Mary Poppins (think, "top of the mornin' gov'na!").

What a beautiful book. I was hooked from the first page. I know a book is good when I hurry through work to get home to read more. :)

Both leads were very well fleshed out. The only part I got caught on was I thought Lexi was a almost too bitchy. Too self centered.

But it all came together in the end.

A great story of two people with spark that ultimately end up together.

I loved the magic twist as well.

Thanks.

A interesting twist in a romance story that solely focus on how to overcome different commitment issues and pasts to be together. No exes, no love triangle, just how two people that are meant for each other work around their issues. Great reading!
