Mollie Williams returned to the small Vermont town that her family had founded, looking for the peace and serenity of the holiday season. Instead, she found the turmoil that went with Padraic Delaney, her ex-husband, who was waiting for her with open arms and a loving heart.
Maura Seger was born in 1951. She and her husband, Michael, met while they were both working for the same company. They married after a whirlwind courtship that might have been taken directly from romance novel. She credits her husband's patient support and good humor for helping her fulfill the lifelong dream of being a writer.
She is happily at work on a new novel, because she finds that writing each romance is and adventure filled with fascinating people who never fail to surprise her. When she isn't writing, she keeps busy homeschooling her two children and thinking of new stories. She lives in New England, USA, with her husband, children and menagerie... mostly.
Mollie decides to get away from the fast pace of Manhattan and return to her small hometown in Vermont for Christmas. When the inn she plans to stay at is full-up, she gets an offer from the last person she expects to see…her ex-husband Padraic, who has bought her grandparents house and he invites her to stay with him. This was an okay reunion story. The story was pretty much just Mollie and Padraic reconciling with each other which came about pretty easily and had me wondering why they waited so long to get back together. Not really a bad book, just not much happened in it.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I went in not expecting much, and for it to be dated since its a contemporary romance from nearly 40 years ago.
The FMC was strong, I loved her independence without the author making her an ice queen or bitch. She called out her ex-husband on his past behavior, while seeing how she was not strong and didn't know herself during their marriage. She also calls him out when he works to manipulate her so he can have a second chance.
The MMC in the book was ok in the present, but him in the past was not a good partner and I don't feel like he reflected on that enough. Especially for the heroine to take him back.
I'm not sure this is a HEA but more of a HFN. I didn't exactly buy the ending. Plus there was a weird out of place Church scene at the end that didn't seem to fit with the story or characters.
