So much angst and sexual tension I just wanted to shake Clara and yell at her to make a decision. I haven't been this infuriated with a female lead character since Ana in 50 Shades. Yes, Clara did have her good moments, but most of the time her indecision and internal whining made me want to smack her.
Length of each book was good, but I still feel as though the Guardians/Evil Ones/Travelers mystery is still just as confusing as ever. And just how many alternate/parallel realities are we dealing with here? At least two, but then a vague mention of a possible third crops up alongside the massive plot twist in book three. (I'm currently working on the 4th one so hopefully I get some answers).
And even though they're only related via author and not genre, let's compare the T.R.B works with the M.E. works:
The Band = The Siren Breeders The Select = The female druids The Fragment = The Faction
There were a lot of times where I felt like I was reading the super PG-13 version of the M.E. Druid Breeders. Thank god those came to fruition later under and alter ego!
Pissed off. First 1 and 2 end on cliffhangers, the second a huge one. Then 3 ignores all that and goes back in time. But apparently the author can't read, since it undoes the already questionable world building of the previous books.
The concept has potential. The author has potential--the first created riveting characters.
But the whole series needs a quality editor to clean up the mess, hone the story telling, and make the world building CONSISTENT. And, of course, to get rid of cliffhangers, which are a sign of a weak author, unable to provide complete stories or unwilling to trust the reader will return if the book is good enough. At least I got it free so only wasted time. Can only imagine fury of reader who squandered limited book budget on these!
This set includes the first three books in The Savage Series. These books should not be read as standalones, and this set makes it easy to read them in order. There is violence and adult situations so 18+. While parts of this series are worth reading, overall the storyline is inconsistent and leaves many unanswered questions. Maybe they will be answered in future books, but at this point I'm not sure I want to continue reading it.
Reading the interactions with potential couples between the different characters were definitely my high points in the book along with seeing the perspectives of Clara's parents.
The multiple kidnappings and attempted rapes were not the most exasperating occurrence in the book for me, it was the numerous unnecessary testosterone filled squabbles between the men who were courting Clara and her inability to make a decision on when the choice of her mate was obvious.
In a nutshell this novel is a post-apocalyptic, steampunk, time travel, romance novel that includes genetically engineered savages that are designed to save the human race. This is what it says on Amazon. ★For fans of The Outlander and The Black Dagger Brotherhood ★ This is nothing like The Black Dagger Brotherhood. I would have let my 12 year old self read the Savage series but not the BDB. The only real steam in these books is in the pipes that heat the city in this story. The h is a virgin and stays that way throughout the first three books. Some of the guys from the "Outside" realm are awesome alphas but thats about the only commonality there is. Someone posted this three book set in the Dark Erotica Goodreads group. I was disappointed. The story is interesting and has a decent premise but I could see that it wasn't going where I would have liked. There are a number of typos but not enough to detract from the story. Books 1 & 2 end on cliffhangers, 3 is a prequel and goes back in time so it ignores unresolved issues. I won't be continuing to read this series.
Not good. I think I should get credit for all 3 titles for my challenge these were such a labor to read. I never finished them before, because the first two are so bad I couldn't bear the third... which is the best of the three. It is connected to another of her series which is okay but not these. What is bad... The language. The speach is supposed to be circa 1890 but comes off more 1790. The terms male and female are so over used I wanted to puke. All kisses are crushing and bruising.
Arrested development. Asteroid hits the earth and a future group of humans saves some of the people in biospheres but they stay stuck in the 1890s (1790s... Oh my ankles are showing!!!). Really, no social development, no language or even fashion changes in 130 years? Seriously?!? The 1890s were INDUSTRIAL. The automobile was being developed. Did the dust cloud kill all the brain cells? They bothered to save people but apparently no scientists or people of education?
The 'select' and the 'Band' and the mating thing. Aagh! Don't get me started.
If this pops up because you read the authors "Death" series... don't bother.
A strong story though confusing at times who are the fragments and why are they there, why call the band savages just because they live outside while Clara lives in a bubble, her beloved father had gone and she is left with the wicked queen Ada a drunk a molester a nothing, then she meets one of the “savages” who becomes more than a protector. Theses stories are her life the ups the downs the warrior in her the fight to live and help her subjects yet she is a “select” so has to choose a mate yet two are in her heart and Mathew is always the nearest. She releases them deciding not to choose. In these stories she’s captured tortured escapes and fights again while helping others she knows little of helping herself and her heart. I recommend these three books and I’m looking forward to the rest of Tamara Rose Blogetts books on this theme
loved the first two books, lead female character, while a little frustrating at times came into a really likable woman who you wanted to cheer on after the bad she had been through. The saviour of the species trope has been done so many times that it can almost feel a little samey however the spin this series has taken breaths a fresh breath into it without being too far out there to make you roll your eyes. look forwards to seeing where her story leads and who she finally decides to choose, does she choose with her heart or through her sense of duty. the third book, I personally didn't enjoy as much but it tells the story of the past and fills a few blanks.
So this box set contains the Savage series plus first books of the author's other series. I knew within less than two chapters that the Savage series dystopian steam punk wasn't really for me . But I moved on to the vampire Blood series and was immediately captured. Couldn't put that one down till it was finished. Trigger warning though on that one. If gang rape and kidnap are not your thong, best not to read it.
This one comes with 3 books in one and holy cow, does it deliver! It's set in a futuristic time, has time traveling, kings and queens, guards (though not what we think of), and so much action! Am amazing read! I finished all 3 in about 3 days total. Can't wait to read the next one!
Savage and civilized, but who is to say which is which? A tale with a twist, where pre conceived ideas passed down through the generations are questioned, with interesting answers.
The first 2 books star an indecisive heroine, while the world is interesting you'll be left with cliffhangers. The 3rd book is about her mother and before the original heroine was born until after, should have been a prequel.
Updating my reviews as been off line. These stories were exciting and substantial but it is to encourage you to buy the next set so I'm using my imagination to how I'd like this saga to end.
Awesome series and cannot wait to read the rest. I would read book 3 first however, since it’s a prequel to the main character and how she came to be. Wish someone would have told me that ahead of time. Still awesome
Once again this series has poor grammar, missing commas, and an author who cannot remember her characters names or who she spelled them. These items are quite jarring for someone who reads a lot of books.
The first two books built up a momentum. Good character development and story line. The third book is a prequel. Some secrets are revealed. This series has romance and epic drama.
This box set is exquisitely written. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone who loves sci-fi paranormal type books. I'm definitely going to be finishing this series as it progresses!!!
Really enjoyed reading The Savage Series 1-3. Loved the detail and all the action. Once you figure out all the parties and how they are related to each other it's just so interesting and easier to follow. I highly recommend reading and look forward to reading more by Tamara Rose Blodgett.
I liked the three different and unique cultures with rich descriptions of the characters. Even different speech mannerisms. I look forward to reading the next books.
This series is about the different groups that inhabit earth after a devastating meteor attack. There's savages who live on the land, sphere-dwellers, who live inside spheres built to sustain life after the meteors and who never have ventured outside, and criminals sent from the future to this land.
