She's dreaming of a life of excitement and romance.
When rising rock star Joe Hawk wanders into the diner where Liss works her dark night is brightened by his incredibly blue eyes and sexy smile. The attraction is immediate and every moment is charged with erotic heat.
He's searching for something real.
The first impression is easy. Taking the next step is much harder. The plus sized beauty has to overcome her insecurities to take a risk on a man whose life is the opposite of everything she's ever known and changing faster than either of them realizes.
From the first electric touch their chemistry is undeniable and the possibilities are endless.
You know what? I really enjoyed this short, sexy freebie about a big girl that hits it off fast and heavy with a budding rock star. I'm so glad I didn't let the reviews dissuade me from trying it for myself. Joe and Liss hooking up is probably a fantasy scenario that doesn't happen often, but that's the beauty of fiction. You can get lost in "what could be".
For some reason, I feel like I need to defend a few things I've seen others post in reviews--a girl that's hot for a guy that she's spent the better part of the night chatting with WOULD allow him to walk her home. She WOULD invite him in. And they probably WOULD get busy. It happens all the freaking time, folks. Is is smart? Maybe not. But that's the stuff real life one-night stands are made of. There's nothing unusual or unrealistic about her doing that. It HAPPENS. A LOT. There IS a such thing as instant lust that causes people to think with their nether regions. If it's a great hook up, they may be infatuated enough with each other to want to spend every possible moment with each other thereafter. That happens all the time too. "I love you" was never mentioned in this story, so I don't see how people would be bothered by the instant sexual attraction. Nothing new there. That's what folks who love sex like to call PASSION.
It's amazing to me how a reader's own life experiences (or lack thereof) influence their perceptions of how characters should behave in a story. They don't have to do what YOU would do in order for it to be believable for their character. Give yourself a pat on the back if you'd be able to resist such a guy and think rationally during a heated moment. Other girls would rather have something else than that pat on the back, and that's okay too. I think people would enjoy fiction so much more if they'd leave their personal judgments at the door and just let the characters do what they would do.
I can easily see how two people could hit it off fast. The heat would probably fizzle out soon, however, that initial lust and animalistic attraction is NOT unrealistic in this story. If you can believe a hot rocker who could have any chick he wanted would want to be with a big girl who works as a waitress with no other aspirations, the rest should be easy as pie to believe. That was the only fantasy part of this story to me. And since I enjoy characters that don't fit a typical mainstream mode, I loved that part too. 5 stars.
I should also mention there are a few editing issues--"week" instead of "weak", punctuation errors, and a few extra words. That didn't take away from my enjoyment.
I've been on a bit of a NA rock star kick lately (blame Kylie Scott for that. She gave us the men of Stage Dive and I haven't been able to get enough since). So I've been reading A LOT of books starring rock stars and the women who help keep them grounded. (and while it could arguably go the other way, too, I've been reading about male rock stars, so... yeah. I like my rock stars hard bodied and dude-like, apparently.)
But let's talk about this book. Here we have Joe and Liss. Liss is working a night job that leaves her little time for a social life. Her friends have all moved onto bigger and better things and she's lonely. Enter Joe. He treats her like she's important and there are immediate sparks.
Literal sparks, as it turns out.
What Joe neglects to tell Liss is that he's a rock star on the verge of making it big. Which could be problematic, but works out nicely once everything gets straightened out. I do appreciate a man who finds a way to express himself to the lady of his dreams no matter the distance between them.
A solid entry in my NA rock star binge. I liked Joe and I get where he was coming from when he tried to be a normal guy for a night. Fame had hit his band hard and fast and sometimes he just wanted to talk to a girl who liked him for him, not because of who he was. Liss's insecurities are understandable, too. Once she finds out who he is, she can't understand what a rock star would want with a normal girl like her.
Bottom line, I liked it and wouldn't mind reading more about Joe and Liss figuring out how to make things work as their relationship deepens.
Not really happy with how they portrayed "fat girls" in this book… the insecurity, the doubt, the bitchiness, the shock and horror that a "chubby" girl could land a hot lead male pissed me off quite a bit i won't lie.
I really don't know how to go about rating this book. It wasn't bad nor really good either. If I had known that it was such a short read I probably wouldn't have got it.
I didn't at all like the "Instant love" between Liss and Joe, as it was completely unbelievable. I also was frustrated when Liss walks out of the diner after finishing her shift to find Joe standing against the wall waiting for her, and after not even knowing him for 24hours accepts his invitation to walk her home. Now no matter how good the conversation was, I would be thinking he was a psychotic killer wanting to slice me up. Who does that? She had no second thoughts about it.
It was very conflicting with Liss's actions to how she was being portrayed as a character. It had me not knowing how to view her at all.
Bottom line the book felt rushed with everything crammed into not so many pages without giving you the opportunity to know the characters or connect with them on any level.
I did however like the fact Liss wasn't your typical female read you constantly read about. She had flaws.
This was Free so I grabbed it. I didn't realize it was so short, like 65 pages I guess. Anyway, I liked that the female lead was a plus-sized girl, you never read any stories about the lead girl being over weight or anything less than perfect. So this was a nice change. I adore rocker books, this one was too short to really get into anything specific. It was more like one chapter out of a normal book. The other thing was the "insta-love" or lust they had going on. I like when there is a build up to it. It all happened really quick and it wasn't believable for that reason a lone. I also didn't really get to connect to the characters because of the shortness of it all. I'd think it would be a better idea to just put all 5 books together rather than drag them out into short stories. But that's just me.
For getting it free I can't complain. It only took maybe a half hour to read, so not a waste of time:) Like I said, a lot of women will like it for the plus-size girl. I'm personally plus sized myself, with a smoking' Hot Boyfriend of my own, so I could totally relate to the things that she wrote!! lol
You know what? I really enjoyed this short, sexy freebie about a big girl that hits it off fast and heavy with a budding rock star. Liss, waitress at a twenty four hour diner, is working the late night shift when a drop dead gorgeous guy stops in for a bite to eat. While she would love to take a bite out of him she knows that guys that look like him don't fall for BBW like her but if she she didn't know any better she'd swear he WAS flirting with her.
Joe Hawk, lead singer for the rock band Dream Defiled, has a habit of ducking out for some alone time after concerts. This time he's found a mom and pop diner meeting Liss, who has no idea who he is. The novelty of having a normal conversation with someone soon becomes more when he realizes how attracted he's becoming to her.
See what happens when an up and coming rock star and a working class girl find that special 'spark' that has them ending up in bed together. But can their relationship survive when his band mates and groupies finds out about them?
This is that quickie feel good Cinderella story that includes some HAWT adult content scenes. Also, I'm definitely going to be ordering some pancakes and bacon myself as that scene did provide some imaginative thoughts I'd like to relive.
I was disappointed though as the short length of this read made it impossible to develop any depth or development in the characters or world building. I didn't feel any spark between the two that would support the events as they played out. Came across as a rock star having a one night stand premise. I would have enjoyed the predictable storyline if only more depth had been there.
I did want to make sure to include the information that while this had a completeness as to a storyline it does end with a teaser/cliffhanger for the next book in this relationship e serial series. Full disclosure: while this book was listed regular price of $0.99 on Amazon I did obtain it as a freebie and is a 15,000 word count read. The next book in this series: Rocked On The Road (Amazon) is priced at $2.99 with a 16,000 word count length. The third installment: Rocked To The Core (Amazon) is $2.99 for this 19,000 word count book. #4: Hard Rocked (Amazon) is $2.99 for 18,000 word count. I could continue but I see there are 8 books so far with the possibility of more. Taking that into account if I would have bought the first four of eight installments it would cost me: $9.96 (all novella or less length books). Add $2.99 for each additional installment. So do factor that in if you decide to read this one. Just sayin.
Liss has a boring life. She doesn't get to spend time with friends thanks to college and work. But when rockstar Joe Hawk walks in the diner Liss works at, everything changes. Joe's devilish smile and blue eyes captures Liss right away. The only problem? Her insecurities. Will Liss be able to overcome her fears and be happy with Joe?
I really can't decide if I want to give this 3 stars or 4. It was a good book, it really was. But I think it was too short. And with a short book like this comes the one thing I hate, insta-love.
I got this off Amazon for free because I absolutely love rockstar romances. I'm a sucker for a guy and a guitar. I just didn't think it'd be short.
I liked Liss. She's smart, sarcastic. I liked that she was a plus size girl. It was a nice change from all the other books I've read with skinny heroines. I also liked that she was insecure about herself, it made it seem real.
Joe. Our rockstar god. I really liked that he found Liss attractive. any time Liss said something about her weight, he'd tell her to shut the hell up that she was just fine the way she was.
I haven't decided if I'm going to continue this series, but if you're looking for something short and sweet and don't mind insta-love, this is your book.
I got Rocked for free at Amazon tonight and decided to read it quickly since I've never read any BBW lit and it was really short.
The story was interesting. I liked that Joe was very interested in her and didn't care what she looked like. But I'm really not a fan of insta-love. I never will be. Unless it's done in such a way that it is so engaging that I can overlook it and just go with the flow. Sadly, for me, it felt like lust was all there was, so I kind of wish it happened in a different, more meaningful way.
Also, the erotic scenes weren't that different from what I've read in the paranormal romances I usually stick to. I've definitely read "hotter" and steamier scenes. It needed more.
There were also a few grammar mistakes.
I will read the rest of the stories since they are short and won't take a lot of my time. It was even a bit entertaining in some parts and I want to know how the journey ends.
This book was free on Amazon so I swiped it because I love Rock Star stories going for ordinary girls. In this short story, Lisa works at an all night diner. On a quiet night a gorgeous unassuming guy walks in and sits. They share conversation and then, being a gentleman, he walks her home.
The story is very sweet. There are no twists or turns. Everything goes very smoothly except for self doubt on Lisa's part.
This could only get 3 stars in my opinion because nothing really happens except at the end. I thought this one would be another Lick by Kylie Scott and I know there are a ton of follow-on stories to keep the tale of Lisa and Joe going. It's a shame the author didn't combine the books to a novel size rather than cut it up into novellas.
I read the 4th book in this series first and Loved it so I am starting from the beginning now! OMG I loved this one too- I can't help but because the heroine is plus size is why I loved it so much- I love the skinny bitches too lol but it's rare to read a book with the female is less than perfect (on the outside). Liss was doubting her beauty throughout and was getting bits and pieces of how Joe felt but luckily she figured things out quick. Things moved fast but really Liss has nothing to loose. Fabulous ending leaves you wanting to know where their story goes. Next up "Rocked on the Road" then "Rocked to the Core". After those 2 books a different couple gets the spot light in "Hard Rocked". Follow my Blog for more reviews & give aways!
This started out great, and I am excited to read parts 2-3 of Liss and Joe's story. I love the fact that Liss is a big girl, and Joe makes her feel beautiful. I did however get pissed with the comment within the book when Liss asked to have the security tell Joe that Liss was there and the groupie behind her says "Yea right chubby." I smiled when Liss got told to go up to the VIP area right after she said that.
This was an interesting little read. I love that it's a real woman, with real insecurities. I actually liked the book a lot. My complaint? It definitely could have been longer. More descriptions on the sex scenes, would have made it hot and steamy. There's no way you can label this an erotic when there's barely any sex. I think expanding on those parts, would make for a 5 star book.
I am surprised how much I actually liked this novella. I usually just pick up a few freebie novella for quick reads when I'm bored but don't actually feel like getting into a full length book. I usually will rate them 2 or 3 stars at the most. But I was impressed with how well the writing was compared to most others. I liked it enough to read the rest of the series.
Liked Liss an Joe's insta love with all of her chubby girl insecurities. Reminds me a bit of White Trash Beautiful by Teresa Mummert. The story was cute and quick, but I can't see paying $2.99 for each installment of less than 100 pages each.
I so wanted to love this.....and I could have...if only the author had put more into it. I actually read the first 3 of the series so far.......which in total probably aren't even novella length.
My first issue is why do people write only part of a story and release it? I just don't get the whole serial/short story aspect. I love a series, but a series of full novels rather than this. You feel as though you are just getting into the story and it is interrupted.
Secondly....Clara had a really good story here...I liked the characters from the beginning, but I was left wanting so very much more.......this was roughly 60 pages in length and I would say 70% was spent in bed....I have no problems with a sexy novel...but I want story too...and there was so much more that could have been told...the characters could have been fleshed out so much more.......sigh.
I very rarely commit to reading something and don't follow thru...and I will finish this series, but not convinced that I will feel very differently in the end.
Liss works the graveyard shift at the diner in a town that is slowly dying out. When the factory jobs leave so did a lot of the businesses. Liss lives on her own and unlike her friends, she didn’t go to college. Three years since graduation and she lives in one of the better apartment buildings. It is cheaper, cleaner, and safer than most in town. But it is also within walking distance to her job making ideal for her. She enjoys her job for the most part since the owner is great and it’s not busy that time of night most of the time. One night when it is extremely slow a guy comes in who is beyond gorgeous. Tall, thin, lean muscles, dark hair, tanned face, and the bluest eyes ever. But those kissable lips that had a slightly crooked smile had Liss’s full attention. After asking for her food recommendation and he had eaten, he asked her to sit and talk. She did and her boss didn’t mind. When she realized hours had gone by and the morning shift was on their way in, she was disappointed when he left quickly. But when she was leaving work, she found him holding up the wall outside, with a pair of sunglasses on. He asked to walk her home. Liss is used to being the friend on the sideline. You know the plus-size friend it never happens for her. Never with a guy like Joe. When things start to get hot and heavy, he gets a phone call and has to leave but he is not happy about it at all. By accident, they meet up at a club and she thinks he is snubbing her because he is with his group of friends and he thinks she is avoiding him because it is too much for her. She feels so relevant when she is around Joe. He makes her feel beautiful and empowered. But she is not sure if that is real. I enjoyed the book although this is an ongoing story of three parts the author leaves you off in a good place. Gives you just enough to be intrigued about your couple and interest enough to feel like you know or want to know them more. At the same time worrying she may have bitten off more than she can chew so early into a relationship. I give this: 4 stars. Free on Amazon.
She was a bbw trying to get by, working the graveyard shift in a diner in the wrong side of town. When Joe walks into liss' diner she never thought he would be attracted to her. There's a little of self doubt in liss, knowing a guy like Joe doesn't really want her, but I felt she was just in her reaction to him. Its slowly getting going and will continue to read book 2 to see where it goes.
Liz is a waitress working midnight shifts when some lonely guy walks in. He's the only customer but when they touch they can feel the electricity between them. Joe is a rock star whom after a show needed to calm down when he meets Liz the electricity zooms. Great story line. But very short book.
I found this book to be rushed, causing it to fall short. The character development was not great and the insta love was just off putting. This book had so much potential, it would have been better if it had been a full novel and the author had taken more time in story development.
I really really enjoyed this spicy short novella. It was so nice to read something about a big girl getting the rockstar, my favorite genre. And he really seems to care about her. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
