Mac Campbell has had a crush on his best friend and roommate Antino Lopez for years…except he can’t like men, he’s a football player. He’s known as the ladies man and he plays the part to a T. Except something is missing. He knows that men turn him on, but he doesn’t want to admit the truth…until Antino dares him. He wonders afterwards if he can go back to being a ladies man again. Is he finally ready to admit the truth to himself that he’s known all his life?
Antino has loved Mac for long as he can remember. On the outside, his buddy sees someone who dates one man after another, but on the inside he’s waiting patiently for the chance to be with Mac. One night when he catches him masturbating, he knows this is his chance to challenge him to try being with a man, just once. He plans on making this a dare he won’t lose, and gain everything he’s always wanted—Mac.
Alyssa is a bestselling suspense author. She resides in the beautiful mountains of southern West Virginia with her loving husband and four wonderful children who put up with her writing craziness. They have been shushed more than once so she could write down something a character was saying.
As a stay at home mom and the family taxi driver, she still finds time to write about the alpha heroes and strong-willed heroines who keep her imagination running wild. When not writing you can find her spending time with her family, reading, knitting and watching way too much reality TV.
The book had a popular plot. "Closeted athlete loves openly gay roommate". Its usually very successful. In this case it could have been better. We weren't really given the opportunity to learn anything abt the roommate Antonio. The ending also felt rushed. Definitely not HEA.
I was on the lookout for a M/M book to read when I saw this one listed on the publisher’s Facebook page. A new to me author and I’m kind of a sucker for a book when a totally Alpha guy likes men but is afraid to admit it and step on out of the closet. I don’t know why but this scenario always trips my trigger so off to the publisher’s website I went and I’m glad I did. For the most part this is flat out pure man on man sex with a little talk in between, it’s not hearts and flowers…it’s sexy and raw so if that’s not your thing, this isn’t the book for you. My biggest complaint it was too short because I really liked these characters and would love to know more about them, their backgrounds, their families, and yes what life is like after….
Mac Campbell is a professional football player on his way to the playoffs. He’s known as a lady’s man and he’s dated and bedded his share of beautiful women but he’s been harboring a secret, he craves the company of men. He’s dated men and he’s even experimented but it’s always stopped short of sex. The man he wants is his gay best friend and roommate.
Antino Lopez never knew his friend was interested in him sexually until he’s caught during a private moment. He can’t believe the man he’s dreamed about and fantasized about could possibly want him. He knows he’s going to have to push Mac so when he issues a dare, Mac jumps on it literally.
It’s so easy to imagine where Mac is coming from because he’s in a very male dominated somewhat homophobic profession. It’s not hard to follow his train of thought on if he’ll continue to be accepted and “one of the guys” if he comes out of the closet I hate that Mac shut down and wouldn’t talk to Antino. It took an outside party for him to start to see the light. I give Antino credit for deciding to make a change if Mac wouldn’t own up to his feelings and not backing down.
Breaking The Huddle is about coming to grips with who you are and accepting yourself and expecting that from others. While I wish it had been longer, I still enjoyed it very much and am looking forward to seeing what else this author has in her backlist.
A very short read. There wasn't anytime to connect with the characters and the story moves fairly quickly. I thought there would be more a little more soul searching and struggle with Mac having to accept being gay but there was none of that.
