Ender Wiggin may be in space learning to fight Formics, but his older siblings Peter and Valentine are saving the world back on Earth. When Valentine learns of an injustice in her school, she wants to fight it. Enter Peter who guides his sister through the process of nonviolent influence, and sets the ball rolling for his plans to one day rule the world. Jake Black, writer of the upcoming Ender's Game Companion, adds this ALL-NEW NEVER BEFORE TOLD story to the Ender's Universe.
Spaceships and battles are fun, but the people back home have lives too. This one-shot shows a school for the genius-level kids who weren't admitted to battle school. Valentine is the main character and the trait that didn't get her into battle school will be used together with Peter's to fix an injustice. It's maybe not as good as Ender's story, but the story is still good, primarily because of the motivation behind Valentine and Peter's actions, a thing that reveals their personalities.
Valentine Wiggin, Ender's sister, was not admitted to battle school because of her compassion. The school's English teacher is replaced with a teacher from battle school, Roger Merrill, and he intends to be strict with his grades. Valentine figures out that the bad grades her class is now getting are due to Merril's frustration at being kicked out of battle school. Peter, Ender's brother, has the less-than-moral solution: to use fake net accounts to message the faculty members with kids' concerns regarding getting into a good college.
It adds an infinitesimal bit of backstory to Valentine; while doing her dirty. She's nothing more than a child who can masquerade as an adult in this; while Peter gets all the glory.
