Rose Parker's husband has been lying. About everything.
When a conversation with her husband triggers questions, Rose Parker uncovers alarming answers that shatter her perfect life. But it is only when she shoves her belongings in her SUV and drives off that Rose realizes just how far from perfect her life actually was. She has nowhere to turn.
While debating between distressing sleeping arrangements-her mother’s house full of questions or a hotel room with too much solitude-Rose bumps into an acquaintance from her gardening class and allows bubbly, exuberant Becky to indulge her in a wild night full of whiskey, weeping, and whispered confidences. Suddenly, Rose has a new friend, a roof over her head, and two gorgeous men moving her out of her marital home.
As Rose struggles to settle into her new life, she remains determined to comprehend her past. And with time and distance and especially wine, comes knowledge. Frank wasn’t the only one lying to her. Rose was lying to herself.

I am SO excited to share my review of Redesigning Rose with you. Some of you know that I also write reviews for the site Novel Escapes and have been doing so since the end of 2011. Since then, I've come to think of Lydia Laceby, the owner of the site, as a friend. I am thrilled to announce that she is now officially a published author! I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the first few chapters early on in the editing process but knew things had changed quite a bit between then and the final product being released. I was excited to read the full novel and I wasn't disappointed. Lydia has written a wonderful novel - one that I devoured in one sitting.
We find out right away that Rose's husband, Frank, is up to no good. I immediately felt connected with and protective of Rose. Having a lying, and possibly cheating, husband is pretty awful and poor Rose was completely taken by surprise. I also quickly figured out that Rose has a spark inside her, one that's been hidden since she married Frank, and that helped me like her even more. I loved seeing how Rose grew into the woman she was always meant to be.
Becky came into Rose's life at just the right moment. Actually, you could say that Rose showed up in Becky's life at the perfect time, too. They complemented each other and they were able to learn from each other as well. Rose needed to have a social life (even if it was forced upon her...and I loved the scene when she realizes her friends are planning evenings for her so she's not alone) and Becky was able to provide that. Becky, in turn, needed to learn some things about herself as well. I don't want to say too much but Becky's story took a really interesting turn and I liked how it fit into the overall plot and how it was resolved.
The gorgeous men mentioned in the synopsis are Becky's brother Scott and his friend Adam and they provided an excellent storyline as well. It wouldn't be a chick lit or women's fiction novel without at least a touch of romance and I adored the love story in this book. Sure, I was a bit frustrated that no one was saying how they really felt or allowing themselves to act on those feelings but I knew there were huge obstacles to overcome. In the end, though, I loved how everything worked out for all the characters.
Overall, Redesigning Rose was a fabulous read. There were a few instances where there needed to be just a few more connections but it wasn't anything that really took away from my overall enjoyment of the novel. I definitely recommend Lydia Laceby's novel to chick lit and women's fiction lovers.

It all started with a lie. Rose’s husband borrowed money to her mother. But her mother didn’t have a clue about it. One lie after another, and Rose had to go out, out of that relationship, out of her marriage. Driving alone in the car, she stopped the car and tears came out. And suddenly, an angel knocked on the window of the car. Well, not a real angel, it was just a woman who lived in the neighborhood and took Rose at her home. Becky soon became her best friend.
Rose had to go on with her life and start all over again. She didn’t have a friend for such a long time. Her relationship with her mother had to be rebuilt on the level as a relationship mother-daughter should be.
And there is Becky’s younger brother who looks so hot.
I absolutely loved Rose’s character. I admired her strength to face the facts and move on. Not everyone can do that. To start all over again is not easy at all. And there is Becky, a weird woman who I would love to be my best friend. You’ll ask why weird? Well, she painted her house in pink, just because her ex-husband hated pink. She has some goofy moments, but she is always there when you need her.
And it wouldn’t be a great chick lit story without a boy in girl’s life. First, there was Frank, the husband, who was such a selfish bastard and wanted all her money for himself. Then there was Scott, Becky’s brother who is gorgeous, but you know the rule, never mess up with your BFF’s brother. And there was Alex, with his icy blue eyes.
Redesigning Rose is a must-read for every romance and chick lit lover.Once I started reading I simply couldn’t stop until I finished it. This lovely and heart-warming story is a fabulous read and definitely one you should check out. A story about life’s ups and downs, a story about friendship and true relationships in your life. Highly recommended!
I am excited to share my review today for Redesigning Rose by Lydia Laceby! I befriended Lydia initially through her book blog, Novel Escapes, and was so honored when she asked me to work on the editing for her manuscript. That manuscript has now turned into the wonderful Redesigning Rose, and let’s dive right into my review!
I love that we start off right away knowing that Rose’s husband is an awful man. I think the story started off on the right foot; we are immediately in the action and backing Rose one hundred percent. Rose’s character is very well-written, a woman with flaws yet determined to move on with her life, yet she can’t resist meeting up with her soon to be ex-husband a few times. It would have been hard to believe if she just cut him out cold turkey, so even though I was screaming “don’t do it!” I knew she had to. I like the love interest in this story because it’s not easy. It’s messy and complicated but really fun to read about. The supporting cast is great fun as well, especially wild Becky (who gets a serious storyline that really added depth to the book) and Rose’s supportive mother. I highly recommend this wonderful debut novel!
I really enjoyed this although it took a while to get into. Once I did I could barely put it down, especially towards the tumultuous ending. And who couldn't help falling inlove with Scott! Another inspiration in self-publishing too.
I feel like Rose would be my homegirl. She'd be my best friend. The entire book was written in this easy, conversational way that made me feel like I was sitting down to dinner with her listening to her tell me her story. With wine of course, there should always be wine.
Redesigning Rose has some of the most realistic, relatable characters I have ever read about.
Rose is strong, but so vulnerable and hurt after learning her husband is not who she think he is, not the man she has loved for so many years.
But like every great book, Redesigning Rose has layers and layers of the story that get peeled away with every page. You learn right along with Rose that sometimes, just because life doesn't turn out the way you thought it would, doesn't mean there's not something even better right around the corner.
Right after leaving her husband in a frenzied tailspin after realizing he's paid for racy sexual encounters and more porn to shake a stick at, Rose meets Becky. Like two lost souls, Rose and Becky immediately strike up an "odd couple" kinship that ends up saving them both more than I think either one anticipated.
Becky's also going through the many stages of healing after a horrible relationship. Reading about how their friendship blossoms and changes throughout the book was amazing. The entire story is a full circle of how friendships grow and evolve and I found myself recognizing alot of the emotions and situations that have happened in my own life. Lydia has an amazing way of writing dialogue that is so true to life and very conversational.
Rose doesn't really know where the journey away from her husband will take her but she is certainly brave enough to find out. The book takes you through her journey of rediscovering herself, making friends and basically coming out from under the rock her husband had created in their life. She begins to realize the fancy house, comfy beds and expensive kitchen wasn't enough in the long run and curtains are thrown back on the life she thought she had wanted. My heart broke for her when she realized the negative effect her marriage had had on her family and how she had drifted away from those she loved without even realizing it.
Watching her come out of the dark corners of her life was invigorating. Especially since I feel like alot of the same things have been happening to me in my life lately.
A great part of this book is Rose's relationship with her mother, her late grandmother and their shared passion for gardening. I loved the scenes where Rose is sad, mad or frustrated and she would take her aggression out in her mom's yard, tending to their beautiful flowers. And thanks to this book, I will probably never look at another dahlia without smiling. Their generational connection is the backbone of the great relationships in this book and I appreciated the comforting notions that go along with great mother/daughter relationships.
My favorite parts of Redesigning Rose are the surprisingly snarky and sassy moments that Rose and Becky have together. They're pretty spicy and Becky has a mean streak in her that reminds you of the mean girls in high school that you hated to loved and loved to hate. Rose is full of surprises too. Whether they are scheming ways to get Rose's belongings out of her old house, drinking way too much wine or skating around emotional issues, no matter what, Rose and Becky find a way make it fun.
Usually thoughtful and a little subdued, Rose holds back. But when sparks of attractions fly with a man she didn't even know a month before, Rose's personality leaps through and takes over. I think Rose is even surprised herself at the new side and it was so fun to read about her discovering a whole new aspect. It was as if she was meeting a new friend, only lucky for her, that friend turned out to be the woman hiding inside of her all along.
I give Redesigning Rose and resounding and adoring 5 star rating. Anyone will love Redesigning Rose. But if you're like me and you've had a life changing event happen, you will further appreciate it because you'll know how scary it can be to take a leap of faith, go at it alone, or to try and keep pushing when life gets scary...
But don't worry, because I can tell you (and so can Rose) that there's a great chance you will end up on the other side of that scary tunnel with a chin that's higher, an outlook that is brighter and a sneaky feeling that you're better off...
Um, okay, whatsup with Frank? Folks, Rose’s husband is a dud and we learn this early in the novel. Rose, the protagonist, certainly deserves better. My reaction to reading about Frank? I immediately felt protective of Rose and there lies the beautiful open to this novel: a protagonist the reader wants to protect and wants to see transformed over the course of the novel.
Don’t get me wrong. Rose isn’t a victim. Rose is a strong woman who stumbles. Rose is an honest portrayal of a woman who has been deceived, wronged, and disappointed by someone she trusted. Come on, people. If what happened to Rose happened to you, you’d stumble. You’d need a Becky (a great friend) and you’d need a garden (or similar outlet) and you’d need to touch base with your roots (family/mother/daughter relationships) and you’d benefit from the attention of not one, but two hot love interests.
What does Rose need to do over the course of this novel? Rose needs to face reality. Rose needs a companion and sidekick to not only offer support but to lighten her load. Rose needs to break from an unhealthy relationship and Rose needs to rebuild a relationship that has been injured. Rose needs to get her groove back.
Enter Becky. Great secondary character. Both Becky and Rose need each other for different reasons and their story arcs develop in interesting ways. Enter Rose’s mother and the fostering of family ties. Love might be around the corner for Rose and this storyline unfolds in sweet ways over the course of the novel.
For Rose, like most of us, life is both good and bad. Life is scary and triumphant. Life kicks you in the butt and challenges you to pick yourself up and get on with it.
Lovers of contemporary women’s fiction will love Redesigning Rose. It has all the ingredients, all the nuances and delicacies expected of a great read. Highly recommended. Loved it.

In her debut novel, Redesigning Rose, author Lydia Laceby weaves a heartwarming story that follows a woman's journey of self-discovery and transformation.
When Rose Parker discovers her husband Frank's lies and dark secrets, it causes her to question if her marriage was nothing but a lie. Shattered with the realization that her marriage was over, she packs up her belongings and leaves, not knowing where she was going to go. With a little help from Becky, a gardening classmate, and Becky's sexy brother Scott and his best friend Adam, Rose embarks on a journey of self-discovery, and starts to rebuild her life with a little bit of trial and tribulation and romance along the way.
Redesigning Rose is an intriguing story set in Toronto and told in the first person narrative by Rose, who takes the reader along for the ride on her emotional journey of self-discovery and transformation. You can't help but get drawn into Rose's story and feel for her when she is forced to face the reality that she didn't really know who her husband really was, and that her marriage was based on lies and secrets. But even with this heart wrenching discovery, the reader follows Rose as she rebuilds her life and transforms herself into an independent and strong lady with the help and emotional support from her Mom and friends Becky, Scott, and Adam. The story has a nice mixture of heartbreak, loss, humor, inspiration, and romance that takes you on a roller coaster ride where you will experience the gamut of emotions.
Redesigning Rose is an inspirational and uplifting story of one woman's strength, survival, growth, and transformation.

What a great read! I'm loving contemporary fiction right now, and Redesigning Rose was such a perfect example of why I love this genre. Redesigning Rose has a strong lead character, great female friendships and a sweet love story to boot.
Rose, the protagonist, is smart, strong, and finally standing up for herself. The book starts with the revelation about her husband's illicit dealings, which have wrecked their finances and their marriage. Rose decides to leave her husband: the only problem is, she has nowhere to go. She bumps into a friend from garden club, Becky, and Becky convinces Rose to stay with her until she gets on her feet. Becky is also separated from her husband, so the two women have that in common. Becky and Rose are fast friends, and I loved their relationship. Becky brought out a different, freer side of Rose and that was a lot of fun to read about.
Rose goes through a lot of self-discovery in this book. I love that she doesn't completely blame her husband for everything that went wrong in her life. She examines her own actions and beliefs, and figures out where she went wrong too. Rose is truly shaken by her husband's deception, yet she doesn't let it crush her. She's determined not to repeat her past mistakes, and not to jump into a new relationship before she's dissected her marriage.
I loved everything about Redesigning Rose. From the well-developed characters, the character growth, the imagery, to the love story, this was a perfect book. This was my first time reading Lydia Laceby and I'll definitely be back for more.
Rose Parker’s perfect life is shattered when she uncovers her husband’s lies. She packs her belongings and drives off, with little idea of what will happen next. Luckily she bumps into Becky, a friend from the gardening club, who takes her under her wing, offering a safe haven while Rose makes some big decisions.
Initially Rose feels lost, unsure of herself, grieving for her broken life. I like the ways in which the author describes how Rose regains her strength with the support of Becky, Becky’s brother, and her own mother. They help her understand past mistakes and find the confidence to face the future, although it’s often a case of three steps forward and two steps back. Her recovery feels very realistic and I sense that anyone going through a similar situation would find comfort in this story.
While my heart goes out to Rose, I have mixed feelings about Becky and her role. At first her kindness and spirit seem exactly what Rose needs, but she seems a little one-dimensional. Then her bossy, I’ve-been-there-so-I-know-everything attitude doesn’t work so well for Rose, or for me. However, when Becky’s own demons come to the fore, they provide the catalyst for a dramatic turn in the story, and she becomes a character with more depth.
I had a hard time putting this book down once I picked it up! It is very funny, heartwarming and passionate. Even if you have never gone through a divorce, you can relate to discovering that someone you love was not the person you thought he was. Rose takes the necessary time to wallow in her husband's deceit, drinks enough alcohol to power a rocket ship (you'll understand the need once you read about her husband) and slowly puts her life back together. You will laugh out loud often, tear up at the tender moments and enjoy the very steamy relationship between Rose and her new found friend Becky's brother. This is a fun and inspiring story for anyone who feels lost in some aspect of their lives. Highly recommend!
This isn't your typical divorce story. Instead of being devoted to dissecting the relationship, it's devoted to watching Rose blossom and grow on her own as she "redesigns" her life after finding out her husband's horrible secret. Somewhere along the line, Rose has lost who she is. Watching her find out what makes her tick again was great.
This wasn't all sunny though. There were a lot of struggles, some deep soul searching accompanied by tears, and new friends that need to find their direction as well. Rose builds some amazing new relationships and gains old ones back again. This was not a depressing or woe is me style story. But a story of a woman taking her life back and learning to love it again.

Redesigning Rose is a novel about a woman who thinks she has lost everything and later discovers that what she lost is not nearly as much as what she has to gain. It's a book about relationships: female friendships, romantic relationships (both healthy and not-so much), mother/daughter relationships etc. The author expertly weaved humor, snark, and wit with serious issues like emotional and physical abuse and manipulation. I loved the originality of the main character's career/passion for gardening as this is very uncommon in women's fiction and an interesting backdrop.
I honestly and truly do not read chick lit. (Or, at least, I will admit that I used to read it, but stopped reading it in my 20's). I am honoured to know the Author, so I thought I would give it a whirl. I COULDN'T PUT THE BOOK DOWN!! I finished it almost over night. Intriguing story and very relatable on many different levels. You really do find yourself rooting for Rose....and, then Becky too. I hope there's more than one sequel! I want to see what the next chapter brings! Fantastic book and I highly recommend it!
I absolutely loved Redesigning Rose. I really loved her characters because they are realistic and so true to life. I identified most with her friend Becky who is loveable and who has a bit of a "past" herself. I hope she ends up writing a novel on Becky as well. I'd be first in line for that one. Overall, Redesigning Rose gave me some laughs, some heartache and was completely charmed by the realistic storyline which was refreshing rather than the regular rich hero who saves the damsel type of story.
4.5 stars! I simply adored "Redesigning Rose." The development of Rose from shattered, lost wife to strong, independent single woman was beautifully done, and I connected with her on many levels. Her intriguing friendship with Becky, blossoming self-confidence, new romantic relationships and close bond with her mother had me flipping the pages at a frantic speed. This terrific debut novel truly conveys how a woman can re-invent herself after losing everything, and I highly recommend it.
Heartfelt and fun. You not only meet Rose but you will feel as if you’re part of her family and will want to hang out with her and her best friend for days on end—I know I did! Redesigning Rose is the kind of novel I hated to put down. The plot takes surprising turns and kept me guessing. I so enjoyed this novel and definitely didn’t want it to end. Bravo, Lydia! I can’t wait for your next book!
Rose Parker opens a bank statement for the first time in years and finds huge amounts of money missing. When questioning her husband she learns so much more than what happen to that money. Her life is shattered and she moves out on her husband. She moves in with Becky, an acquaintance from her gardening class, and her life takes a new turn. As she struggles with her new life, she is determined not to let the past haunt her.
The best part of this story is how uplifting it is. Although it starts rough, with a wife leaving her husband after finding out their marriage has been full of deceit, the story quickly turns into a positive story. The story of a woman who when faced with a rough road decides to pick herself up and make her life so much better. She has her days of grieving and beating herself up, but overall she understands that she is strong enough to overcome this. A huge part of her overcoming is the support of her new best friend Becky, who has a history of a failed marriage and can relate to what Rose is going through, and Rose’s mother, who steps up with 100% support without ever doubting that Rose will succeed in moving past her failed marriage. Scott, Becky’s brother, and Adam, Scott’s best friend, are also huge supporters of Rose even though they did not know Rose before she moved in with Becky.
I have to say that Scott is probably my most favorite character in this book. Every book needs some hot and studly men. Not only did he step to the plate and help Rose in any way she needed but he was just there. There when she just needed someone to talk to. There when she just needs someone to sit with her. There when she needs someone to get her out of the house. Scott also knew when to step back and not be there. He never doubted her and showed it in so many ways.
Becky’s storyline came later in the book and it added so much to the story. I loved that Becky got a chance to shine and not just be the support system and best friend. It gave Rose the chance to be that friend that Becky had been for Rose for the whole story. It also gave me a chance to learn Becky’s history. I loved how all the characters that rally around Rose now had the chance to rally around Becky and give her the support she truly needed.
This is a quick and easy read. I started it just before bed and hated to put it down to sleep. I grabbed it right up in the morning and barely put it down all day. This is a novel that I will recommend to all my chic lit readers.
When Rose unexpectedly stumbles upon a big lie told by her husband Frank, she begins searching for clues. What else might he be hiding?
And when she discovers the extent of his deception, she is sick with fear about how she has missed the signs all these years.
Packed up and fleeing the house, she has no plan. Where is she going? How will she manage on her own?
It was easy to connect with Rose's panic and to worry a little about how she would fare. So when she serendipitously meets up with a friend from her gardening club, who offers her a place to stay until she figures things out, I felt relieved. Betsy has some issues left over from her marriage, too, and as we learn more, it is evident that both women are struggling to make better choices.
It took sheer guts for Rose to make this bold move...and because her "Frank habit" was long-standing, she was tempted to go back. More than once. Thinking she could change him...or he would change. The struggle to change was realistic, since nobody can learn new behaviors without a few stumbles.
In the aftermath, Rose's journey to building a new life felt real and like something that could actually happen. Her friends and her mother were supportive, and she slowly begins making better choices for her life. As she flounders in a new relationship, it was encouraging to see how she spotted the red flags sooner. Like in real life, stumbling, falling, and then changing.
"Redesigning Rose" was an engaging read, recommended for those who enjoy books about relationships and issues. 4.0 stars.
A really good read for me, great characters and storyline. I will read more by this new-to-me author.
From Amazon: Rose Parker's husband has been lying. About everything.

This story is warm and smooth as honey. There is a beautiful balance of good and bad, happy and sad. I felt every character, every emotion, and every incident to be really well written and completely involving. The story is very well thought out and brings into sharp focus just how important timing is in life, and the impact it has on the choices we make and how they affect not only our own future but also those around us.
The love stories (yes plural!) are well plotted out and the breadcrumbs littered throughout bring it all together very well in a great conclusion. The characters lives are gorgeously interwoven; unrequited love, friendship, parenthood, lies and loss are all thrown into the mix. There is a warm bubble left in your heart as you finish the last few pages. I highly recommend reading this book whether you’re looking for a holiday read with summer coming up, a lunch break read, a book for your commute or if you just want a really good read, then this is what you’re looking for.

Life is full of curveballs. Surprises. Things that come out of left field that maybe you should have seen coming, but didn't. This is exactly what happens to Rose, and from there, she has a lot of decisions to make. Redesigning Rose is a novel that delves into the matter of what to do now? She's been oblivious to all the wrongdoings her husband has done, and she's been in denial.
With the help and support of her best friend Becky, Rose goes on a revamp. A new design of her life, her heart, and everything that she's kept hidden for so long. Rose has definitely grown and leaned as a character from the beginning to end, and reading her journey and transformation kept me glued to the pages. Ms. Laceby's beautiful novel is certainly one many can relate to on one level or another. I know I did. A Job well done!
Amazing Book, Great Storyline, Heartfelt Romance and a Definite Must Read.
Rose suffers the ultimate betrayal at the hands of her husband. She immediately packs up her life and leaves, not knowing where to go and not wanting to move in with her mother, she has a moment of clarity and breaks down crying in her car. Rose's friend Becky see her in distress and not only offers her a place to stay, but also offers her friendship. With the help of Becky, Becky's brother and his best friend, Rose see that there is life after marriage and that maybe, just maybe, she will be able to trust and fall in love again. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a really good.
I need to start by saying that I loved this book! It is a story of one woman's transformation from a somewhat doormat to a strong personality. It is a story of love, friendship and overcoming a bad marriage. I had a difficult time putting this book down. The friendship between Rose and Becky was well written and Becky gets a serious side story in this book which I thought tied in nicely with the rest of the plot. I liked the romance in this book, it was nice and clean not too graphic. This was a fun book to read with a few serious moments that this story needed to have in order to give it some depth. I look forward to this author's next book.
This heartfelt story begins when Rose discovers her husband's secrets. It mkaes her realise her who marriage is a lie. There is nothing to salvage, so she packs up her car without knowing where she is going.
Her unlikely saviour is Becky, not a close friend but an acquaintance from gardening class. Becky has empathy with Rose and gives her a place to stay.
Rose begins to rebuild her shattered life with a few bumps and scrapes along the way, but this is something many women who leave a marriage will be able to identify with.
There are some difficult scenes in the novel but overall there is a heartwarming story of a woman who realises she doesnt know who she is and how she wants to rebuild her life.
I think this is the most surprising book I've read in the last decade. As little as a couple of years ago this would have left me paralyzed in fear, and sobbing uncontrollably for hours. And while it still hurt in places now, I hurt more for what the charcters were going through, than flashing back to my own past. This is major progress for me! Not only that, but this book has given me an idea fir something I can now do, and want very much to see done. This was acwonderful, powerful, and transformative book for me too.
I have to say this book really hit home for me, you see I am Rose in this story. It was a brilliantly written story about a woman's survival from the devastation brought on by her husband. The story is heart wrenching, heart warming and heart felt. Rose goes through so many real emotions in this book that you can't help but feel for her. Rose survives and finds what she needs to get through and make a life for herself. This is an awesome book that is must read. I give it 5 stars
Even on a busy day when time is limited, you find a moment to read AT LEAST a few pages of Redesigning Rose!! A wonderful and oh so relatable story that truly reinforces that great things often come from the moments in life that seem like the lowest!! A great story of strength and friendship and definitely a book I would recommend to others!!
