The Zimmer Insurgency

Rate this book
Five generations after the Panamerican Revolution and the West is a very different place: Washington lies in ruin, Atlanta is under martial law, and Saskatchewan is used as an execution yard for political dissidents. Florida, Manhattan and half of California are under water. Everything south of Bolivia is hounded by cloned dire wolves as big as bears. Psychedelic breastmilk is the drug pandemic of the day. Cash currency has been abolished and drugs, fake names and sex toys are bought underground with heirloom jewelry. In the Falklands, pirates are training penguins to sit on their shoulder and parrot back punchlines. And in Haiti, an escaped enemy of the state plots an overthrow....
It's April of 2165, and the Republic of Panamerica is about to secure their interstellar Manifest Destiny. Five moons some twenty lightyears away have been discovered, with just the right conditions to support human life. Yet as Panamerica goes through the final preparations to launch, Kayla Zimmer, a former inmate in a secret prison camp, has an agenda of her own.
El Presidente and his continental banana republic would have this day go down in history, and it's about the one thing Zimmer agrees with him on. This is their proudest moment, and the time for her revenge....

Jason Shannon is a Canadian author.

Shannon began writing in ninth grade, but went for years without finishing anything, and then years more without publishing. His first big break was publishing the untitled true story of his vasectomy (published under the name Jay Shannon) at the age of 26, in the collection "Being Fruitful Without Multiplying: Stories and Essays from Around the World" by Patricia Yvette, Renee Anne, Janice Lynne and Many Others. It was at this time he was already working on the final edit of "The Zimmer Insurgency", his debut novel, which he self-published the following year in 2013.

Shannon worked in constuction for many years, and continues to to this day, in a variety of tasks from heavy equipment operation to safety.

His debut novel is available here:

The Zimmer Insurgency by Jason Shannon is an incredibly high-stakes thrill ride from start to finish. This book grabs you by the collar in chapter one and refuses to let go. The pacing is relentless, and the tension is perfectly balanced with just the right amount of world-building for our characters.

Zimmer's character is compelling, and the layers of mystery and conspiracy are written with such authenticity that you start to question what’s fiction and what’s disturbingly plausible. Shannon does an excellent job weaving political intrigue with gritty sci-fi.

One of the things that impressed me most was how timely and relevant it felt without ever becoming preachy. It’s thrilling, thought-provoking, and leaves you thinking long after the last page. Highly recommend if you're into political thrillers, conspiracies, or just damn good storytelling.

The Zimmer Insurgency is a must read for all Political Sci-Fi fans. The author (Jay Shannon) weaves an integrated tale of political upheaval and personal renounce. Zimmer has sacrificed everything for her cause. Her character reveals a woman with more determination and courage than any of the men she must collaborate with. Definitely a book worth pursuing, you wont be disappointed.
