She saw herself in the missing little girl, and Special Agent Carrie Sparks would do whatever she had to do to find that child. Even pair up with Unit Chief Sebastian Lorcan.

Lorcan always watched her, judging every move she made. And Carrie knew she always came up short with him. Still...there was a little girl out there who needed them both...

Sebastian Lorcan was fascinated by Carrie Sparks and had been since his transfer to the PAVAD division two months earlier. And when his friend's daughter runs away, Carrie is his first choice for help in finding that little girl.

But it soon became apparent someone else is searching for Carrie...someone with an agenda far from good...

Who is Calle Jaye Brookes?

Calle Jaye is fun, playful, ironic, professional and sophisticated. She’s super-educated in the field of fiction and would spend most of her time walking around in “Book World” (or”eBook World”).

Does she have slight control freak tendencies? Yep. Why else would she chose to self-publish?

In her day job she gets to read romance novels. In her night job she gets to write them!

Her favorite color is bold purple. She likes rock like Kid Rock, Shinedown, and Nickelback. Add in a bit of Anastacia and Adelle, too.

She collects rocks. Watches crime dramas. Abhors Lifetime Movies and Titanic (especially Leo…) and refuses to read or write about sparkly teen vampires.

She’s married to a cop she strongly suspects is a vampire. They’ve made vampire babies, too.

They live in Indiana with their vampire relatives and their vampire dogs.

The second book in the PAVAD: FBI - Romantic Suspense series by Calle J. Brookes. Unit Chief Sebastian Lorcan goes to Special Agent Carrie Sparks' home to ask her to help him find a friend's runaway daughter. She agrees and they take off to look for her. When others at the FBI office find out they are concerned because of Carrie's Asperger's. Meanwhile, a man is looking for Carrie and is concerned for her safety. Apparently someone from his past is out to hurt her.

I think I liked this book slightly more than the first book in the series.

I liked this novel as the heroine was not only kickass at her job, intelligent & compassionate. She did it all, despite horrific trauma in her past, an acute sensory sensitivity & her teams tendency to coddle her.
Love to read more

Disappointing

I immediately hooked on the characters of Sebastian and Carrie and was willing to overlook how easily everything worked in the plot.....then about half-way in, the whole story became so unbelievable in development that I finished it just to see what happened to Carrie but was almost offended by the absurdity of the tale.

Sebastian and Carrie. They are FBI agents, she has Asperger's. The story line was okay, but I wasn't feeling the attraction between the two. Add to that the changing POV, the fact that it seemed like each character had three names (for example, Sebastian, Bastion, Lorcan), and there were so many characters to keep track of for previous and future books, it just wasn't doing it for me.

Good!

After reading the first book of the series I went straight Into this one. I have to say that I did prefer this book so much more than the first. This book had so much more going on, and it was basically the characters we've met before. I love carrie. Being a mother with an autistic child I like to read about stories where there is light at the end of the tunnel. People hear the word autism and they don't think that child will ever amount to anything. Well, autistic people are highly clever and I wish there was more books detailing that. I give the author ten out of ten for that.

With a decent edit to polish up a lot of repeated words and sentences this book could be a five star read. If you like crime novels then you'll enjoy this series.

First time I am reading this author. Got a deal on BookBub and read my free copy.
What i liked about it. The main characters, their weirdness, the chemistry.
What i disliked about it. There were too many plots. It felt more like reading a collection of short stories. I felt it would have been better if the author had taken one or max 2 storylines and run with it.
Will i read another book by this author? Probably. It was a decent read despite the issues.

I really liked Carrie and Sebastian. At first, they seem so different that you would never expect them to get together. But Sebastian isn't put off by Carrie's Asperger's and gives her credit for being a good FBI agent and a capable woman. There were a couple of intertwined plots, with a lot of twists and turns.

Too many names, slow plot, pretty lukewarm romance.

Very well done! This book was just what I needed to take a break from sweet romances and women's fiction. It is a great FBI mystery/detective story involving a number of teams and a number of interesting cases from missing and kidnapped children, street children, murder and burglary with deception within the police force and without. I found it somewhat difficult to keep track of all the characters because there were many and because the author sometimes called them by their last names and sometimes by their first names, although I know this is very common within FBI, CCU and Police and Special Investigative agencies.

The story also has enough romance with Carrie and Sebastian and other agents to keep the interest of the reader. Characters were well developed and memorable and I look forward to reading more about them from this author. I read this book late into the night when I just couldn't put it done. This was my first read by Calle J. Brookes, and I say Thank You and Well done!

This was my first book by Calle J. Brookes. I will say, she is no longer a new to me author! I have found a new favorite that I will stalking for new releases.

The beginning of this book was a little comical at the hatred that these two people had for each other. As the book reads on, you understand where her hesitation comes from. As Lorcan starts to unlayer Carrie he finds out that he feels so protective of her and he is so confused by these feelings.

Carrie finally starts to realize that maybe there is more to Lorcan that what most people think. She is a little confused at how she can be so comfortable with an arch enemy.

Yes, this book has some misspelled words and some added words in the sentences that should not belong there, but the overall read was amazing. It kept me on my toes and made my feelers work in overdrive.

A lot going on in this story

Take one federal agent with autism and one federal supervisor who is in love with her and you would think you have a match made in heaven. And in a way you do, but Sebastian has a lot of questions. Carrie has autism although she is highly functioning and Sebastian has the patience to work with her and to love her as she is. There are a couple of little (or big, depending on how you look at it) mysteries along the way. This is definitely an edge-of -you're seat mystery with wonderful characters and excellent story!

Bravo, Calls - another winner!!

This series will keep you on the edge of your seat! The stories have characters that glide through each entry in the series but each book has its own complete story, full of action and suspense. I have to be honest, I am reading them out of sequence. But the strings that pull the whole series together, still show up. No spoilers here, but I am thrilled with the way this story came out!!

Carrie is full of idiosyncrasies in her personality for someone who carries a badge and gun. But she has met her match in Sebastian Lorcan who shows up on her doorstep asking for her help in finding a runaway child. But then Carrie is targeted and Sebastian goes on the defense to find out who is after his girl. The two cases are both solved but not without consequences by everyone involved. Read to see what happens in the second book of the PAVAD: FBI Romantic Suspense series.

Wow!

Callie J. Brookes is a master at weaving intricate, suspenseful plots that are fully developed and keep the reader wanting more more more. If you enjoy crime dramas such as Criminal Minds or CSI you will devour Callie's novels. I love how she seamlessly wove in an individual who is on the autism spectrum as a successful strong heroine into this work. I highly recommend this series.

Really good!

I read the first book and this one of the series so far. I enjoyed both. I loved the characters, and the storyline in both books. The lead female character was autistic, smart, and had developed excellent coping skills. The male lead character was so good with her. I’m not giving anything else away. Read it. The first in the series as well. Strong, capable, smart women, and tough, caring men. Excellent reads.

The author writes another romance novel with a wrapping of police drama. This is her style and she sticks to it. The romantic pairing is immediately obvious, and she develops surprising plot twists to wrap around the main story line. There is police action, drama, and mystery but it never takes a back seat to the romance she is developing between the protagonists.

I find her stories to be a nice break from some of the more intense genres and plots that I read.

Complex & Interesting story

The lead character has Aspergers & it is handled and explained well. Story was very in depth and kept the suspense up. Likable group of coworkers who treat each other like family. Only problem was about half way in I think the Editor quit her job. Spelling & grammar errors galore. Still going on to the next book.

The books start with an unlikely professional partnership which led to a deeper understanding and team.

The main character has a horrific past and Aspergers but is one intelligent and compassionate agent although her team tends to overprotect her.

I loved the way Aspergers was explained through this character and how the writer included it in the story.

Great read.

Great book

I have this book a five star rating because it kept my attention from the beginning all the way to the end.
I really like that these books are not full of foul language. The characters are so interesting. I can't wait to start book three in this series.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good book.

Romantic Suspense

High on the suspense low on the romance. An enjoyable read with a different heroine. Carrie was unique. A heroine with high functioning autism. And very intelligent. Sebastian’s patience with Carrie was commendable. Carrie and Sebastian together were great. And supporting characters were also quite enjoyable.

Almost 3 books in one

Usually you get one assignment/case/crime in a romantic suspense, case solved, they fall in love, book over. Not this one with almost three separate crimes to solve it makes for a wonderful read. Smart and procedural enough to make this story and the characters believable, I would read this one again.

Great story

Carrie's story had many twists and turns. Very good plot and very interesting story line.
While Carrie is an FBI agent now, we learn that her early life was filled with tragedy and more tragedy.
Sebastian is a new team leader and has been interested in Carrie since he met her. He understands her Autism and how strong she really is.
