3.5 Hot Scot Stars :D
I loved the first chapter of this book... Its New Years Eve, the countdown to midnight is going on. Good girl Bailey should be getting married, but she’s not. Her wedding has been called off due to a cheating fiance. So, what is she doing? She is shagging a stranger in the bathroom of a club- and he’s tall, hot, and Scottish!
After this midnight romp, Bailey is embarrassed and bolts. If thats not bad enough, she see’s him the next night when she is on a blind date. Kalen is HOT! He and Bailey have undeniable chemistry.
Bailey has a lot on her going on. Not only did she just break off her engagement, she moved to a new city and is staying with best friend Lizzy, she is starting a new job and her best friends brother, who she has always had a huge crush on shows up to confess his feelings. Yeah- with all that, Kalen wants to see more of her, her creeper boss is hitting on her, and she is finding discrepancies in her accounts at work (she is an auditor).
Things start to get hot and heavy with Kalen. And she starts to develop feelings. When her job and her personal life collide, things start to get messy.
A very quick, but enjoyable read. A little predictable, but still good. I will for sure read book 2 to see whats going to happen next with Bailey and Kalen!

Assets (Balance Sheet #1) by Shannon Dermott
First let me say I am a fan of Shannon Dermott and love her Young Adult Paranormal series. So when I was offered to read and review her new adult contempary romance novel I immediately wanted a copy to read. I have to say that Shannon transitioned over to the adult romance genre extremely well, this book is fantastic and I cannot wait to read the next book in this series Liabilities (Balance Sheet #2).
We meet Bailey Glicks who is what she calls herself just ordinary, she recently has just left her cheating fiancé and relocated to New York to stay with her best friend from college Lizzy. On New Year’s Eve Bailey and Lizzy head out, tonight was suppose to be Bailey wedding night, feeling a bit out of sorts she ends up in the bathroom with a tall, handsome, sexy man. So embarrassed by what she has done she bolts from the party. It’s quite funny at this point and Lizzy is a fantastic best friend. Bailey is quite ashamed of her actions that night. Set up by Lizzy mom on a blind date Bailey runs into the sexy man from the washroom.
Kalen Brinner is an alpha male, handsome, sexy and Scottish and he want to get to know Bailey. Kalen who is a self made man, rich powerful and normally gets what he wants........wants Bailey. Kalen and Bailey romance is sizzling but there are some secrets and as the reader you can imagine what going to happen. Besides figuring out the relationship Bailey is having a few issues at work auditing a company’s finances she finds some inconsistencies. There is so much going on in the story, Bailey’s work, her relationship with Kalen, her friendship with Matt (Lizzy’s brother) and Kevin her supervisor from work.
When it all comes together, secrets are revealed and at this point we are not sure if Kalen and Bailey will make it through all the secrets.
Assets (Balance Sheet #1) by Shannon Dermott is a fantastic read, I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. I have rated Assets a 4 star rating and would recommend it to anyone who loves romance novels and Shannon Dermott’s writing.

I am a huge fan of Shannon's YA novels, so I was really excited to read her first adult contemporary novel.
I often times have a hard time rating books that are part of a trilogy, where they are clearly not meant to be stand alone novels. I think it's easy to pick apart the storyline, because, by design so much is left up in the air. This is certainly the case with Assets.
You have one primary love interest, a longtime crush waiting in the wings, and the reintroduction of the first love. That is a lot of balls to keep in the air. In addition, there is a mystery/ suspense component that is started in the later half of the book. It very much felt like this was an introduction to the story, so I'm hopeful there will be a lot of movement in book two.
Kalen is certainly hot (love that his is Scotish, yum) and he and Bailey most definitely have chemistry galore, but it's hard to see where their more tender feelings are coming from. They spend little time with each other outside of the bedroom, and half of that time is spent fighting.
It seemed like at one point Baliey's best friend might get her own sideline in the novel as well. Part of me is a little worried that there may be too much going on to really do any of it justice, but that remains to be seen.
I'm certainly intrigued enough that I'll pick up the next book. I'm Interested to see how this will all play out in the end.

STILL the absolute best New Years Countdown ever! Super sexy, the only thing that could make it better would be to hear Kalen's Scottish accent. Love me some Highlander accent. But, I will admit, not quite the same lustrous shine as my original reading. 4½♥'s would be my 'new' official rating.

holy hotness shannon i didnt know u were capable of writing such an erotic book. i enjoyed this book immensly and cant wsit for the next. i so cannot wait to be properly introduced to turner.

This was a great read. The H was so possessive and the h was it for him. I was disappointed with the BF. She was the usual slutty, big-mouthed, fun loving, dresses like a slut friend that is the exact opposite of the h and is encouraging the h to cut loose. The h is drunk and has sex with a stranger. When she tells her BF the friend's response was "Was he good?" Are you kidding me? How about are you ok? The BF is rich and the h claims that she doesn't care about wealth but she wears designer shoes and is really impressed by the H's wealth. She was so fake like her BF. Anyway, I'm glad she stood up to the H and he couldn't stay away from her.

This is Shannon Dermott's first adult contemporary romance and I already can't wait for more! She is one of my all time favorite authors and EVERYTHING she publishes is an automatic read no matter what she writes and she never lets me down! In Assets, the characters are interesting and engaging and the guys are HOT of course! Since this isn't her usual genre of YA, I admit that I'm curious to see just how hot and steamy the next 2 books are going to be. Shannon knows how to bring it so I know I won't be disappointed. I'm sooooo looking forward to more KALEN!

I absolutely loved this book! Author Shannon Dermott creates a believable and fascinating storyline. The main characters are Kalen and Bailey. Bailey meets Kalen on New Year's Eve at a party and against all of her normal instincts has sex with Kalen in a bathroom. It's the best sex she's ever had but she's appalled by her behavior and runs out of the bathroom and hotel thinking she'll never see Kalen again. She doesn't even know Kalen's name at this point. He's just an anonymous quest. This was also supposed to be her wedding night until she called things off with her fiance after finding out he was cheating on her. Did I mention the sex in this book is hot!
New Year's Day while out on a blind date Bailey sees Kalen again with a tall leggy blonde. Even though she likes her date she is jealous and mad because Kalen appears to have already moved on. Bailey had felt an attraction to Kalen in the bathroom and she thought he had felt it too. Bailey assumes Kalen is a player, after all a man that good looking could have any women he wanted. Kalen confronts Bailey outside of the bathroom at the restaurant they are at and says he wants to see her again. He demands that she meet him the next night. Kalen is definitely an alpha male!
Bailey is not sure what's going on but she can't deny her sexual attraction to Kalen. While Bailey deals with the precarious, sexual relationship with Kalen she also has a new job to start. Bailey will be auditing a large company in New York where she is living with her best friend and former college roommate, Lizzy, while looking for her own apartment. Bailey is left without a place to live after the break up with her fiance.
While working, Bailey's pig of a boss, Kevin, starts hitting on her. Bailey tries to avoid Kevin and makes it clear she's not interested. Kevin doesn't take the hint. To get her boss to back off Bailey takes Matt, her roommates twin brother, up on his offer to help her out. (Matt also has the hots for Bailey). Matt meets Bailey for lunch and gives her long deep kiss in front of her boss, Kevin. Bailey tells Kevin that Matt is her fiance. Bailey's boss accuses Bailey of coming on to him (NOT) and is obviously pissed that she has a boyfriend. As Bailey continues her work, things are looking fishy in her part of the audit but Kevin, her creepy boss, blows it off and tells her to work on something else. Bailey can't let the anomalies of the audit go because her instincts tell her something is terribly wrong. Bailey's probing seems to have hit a nerve because she receives a threatening note. Her boss laughs it off and says it is nothing.
Once again Bailey and Kalen get back together when he says he wants more than sex...he wants to get to know her. It's obvious from their dates that Kalen has money but Bailey doesn't really care about money and doesn't know who Kalen really is. Bailey comes from a humble background...from a community that is one step above an Amish community. Bailey hated where she grew up and swore she'd never go back.
Kalen is very possessive of Bailey and doesn't want any other man touching what is "His". He is also protective of her and worries when he finds out about the threat against her. Kalen is out of the country when the threat against Bailey occurs. When he gets back in town, before he has a chance to talk to Bailey, he overhears a conversation that makes it sound like Bailey is with another man and he leaves Bailey without allowing her to explain. Bailey cries herself to sleep for several nights. She misses Kalen and his warn arms around her. Kalen still doesn't contact her,but when Bailey gets a much more dire threat at work she calls Kalen because she has nobody else to turn to for help. Bailey is shaken up and Kalen takes her to his home and settles her down. They start to talk about where their relationship is going because Bailey doesn't want this to be about sex alone. Kalen want more than sex too but can't promise her anything long term and says he will be going back to Scotland in a few months. Bailey ends the relationship right there. She's heartbroken but knows that she won't be able to handle having her heart totally ripped out if she and Kalen stay together any longer and then he leaves her.
But before the break up Kalen has advised Bailey to go to the CEO of the company she's auditing and tell him about the threats against her and the anomalies in the books and the missing money. When Bailey goes to see the CEO she is in for the shock of her life. Bailey gives the information to the CEO but then quits her job and heads home to the one place she swore she'd never go again. When Bailey gets home the first person she sees is the only man she has ever truly loved, Turner.
And yes we are left with a cliffhanger! We know of 3 men who love Bailey; Kalen, Matt and Turner. What will Bailey do now? And is she still in danger from her last job... does someone still have it out for her?
I can't wait for the next book in the series! This book is so well written and the characters so well developed. I love Bailey and Kalen and can't wait to see what's in store for their future. Or will Bailey's future be with Matt or Turner?
I highly recommend this book and give it a strong 5 stars!

I LOVE a sexy Scottish accent! Kalen Brinner definitely has a sexy Scottish accent! Mmmmmmm……
Bailey Glicks has left her fiancé and run to NYC. She’s starting a new audit with a new team. She’s living with a good friend of hers. She’s starting over.
On New Year’s Eve when she was supposed to be getting married, she’s getting some action at a New Year’s Eve Party, with no-name hot hunky Scottish accent.
Kalen finds Bailey and begins a seduction that is definitely more stalker than anything! But boy is it HOT! The chemistry between Kalen and Bailey burns white hot! Kalen is just flat out HOT! OMG! His seduction of Bailey is unbelievable. He surprises her with the most romantic and intimate things, however stalkerish it seemed.
Kalen is a total JERK to Bailey at times. He makes demands of her and is not the most trusting of people toward Bailey. He would send her off without a word and then show up in her apartment later at night, MUCH later, to seduce her. There was plenty of angry sex in this one!
I really enjoyed the seduction of Bailey. Kalen went all out to get her where he wanted her. I was a bit disturbed by Bailey’s acceptance of some of the things he did. They were definitely stalker material at times and she let it go without question. While on one hand it’s kind of romantic that he went to so much trouble, on the other hand it would have been very stalkerish if he hadn’t been more honorable.
We’re left with a cliffhanger. Things DO NOT end in a Happily Ever After. Luckily I don’t have to wait long for Liabilities to come out. It’s slated for publication on July 30!

You know you are in for a ride when the book opens with two strangers having sex in a nightclub bathroom on New Years Eve.
Dermott is the creator of one of my all time favorite book characters (seriously, I want him to be real so he can marry my daughter and give me lots of grand-babies), so I was not surprised when she, once again, delivered great characters.
Bailey Glicks is somewhat of a hot commodity. She has said stranger wanting to get to know her more. Her new supervisor is laying on the creepy charm in an attempt to woo her. And after learning of her recent break from her former fiance, a man from her past has show up to lay his cards on the table.
It is the stranger, Kalen, that occupies her mind all too often though. There is an animal magnetism between these two and Kalen makes Bailey forget everything she was brought up to know. Steamy. Steamy, is how I would describe Kalen. He's also a little of a controlling and possessive stalker type freak. Which made me love him even more. It's obvious there is more to him than what he shows and I enjoyed trying to puzzle him out.

Assets is a short read yet full of thrills and chills and super sexiness. It was a brave departure from Dermott's Mature YA series and I feel she pulled it off well. The end is a cliffhanger, and I'm good with that. As long as I don't have too horribly long of a wait for book 2!
Dermott is the creator of one of my all time favorite book characters (seriously, I want him to be real so he can marry my daughter and give me lots of grand-babies), so I was not surprised when she, once again, delivered great characters.
Bailey Glicks is somewhat of a hot commodity. She has said stranger wanting to get to know her more. Her new supervisor is laying on the creepy charm in an attempt to woo her. And after learning of her recent break from her former fiance, a man from her past has show up to lay his cards on the table.
It is the stranger, Kalen, that occupies her mind all too often though. There is an animal magnetism between these two and Kalen makes Bailey forget everything she was brought up to know. Steamy. Steamy, is how I would describe Kalen. He's also a little of a controlling and possessive stalker type freak. Which made me love him even more. It's obvious there is more to him than what he shows and I enjoyed trying to puzzle him out.

BRAVO!!!! This one is truly a winner. It had me squirming in my seat!

WOWZA!!! This one had me all sorts of bothered and in a good way. But this book had more than just amazing sex.
Bailey is just your average girl. Was hurt by a man she trusted and now she is trying to pick up the pieces and move forward with her life. She is currently living with BFF Lizzy and working an audit for a big company. Its not an ideal job but it'll last her for a few months. Or so she thought. Money is disappearing from multiple accounts that Bailey is auditing and now she's being threatened.
Kalen oh my sweet Kalen. Where have you been all my life??? sighhhhhh
He meets Bailey at a new years party and before you know it they are all hot and heavy and counting down into the new year with a mind blowing explosion!!!!
The chemistry between them is undeniable and they fit together perfectly. They still have a lot to work out and I really hope as the series moves forward they will find some sort of peace. They are too right not to be together.
Even though this was a bit predictable I still loved it. I kinda figured right away who Kalen was. But the end, crap! I need more! I cant wait until I can go back into the world of Kalen and Bailey.

This does have a cliffhanger ending but the second book is available already, Liabilities. This was a book I did not want to put down and I resented everything that made me have to stop reading I was that absorbed!

My rating for Assets would be about 3.5 stars.
I enjoyed reading about Bailey and Kalen but at the same time I did not connect with them as much as I would have liked to. I felt like there was a lot missing, which I'm sure will be addressed in book 2.
Bailey is just getting out of a relationship where she found out her fiancé was cheating on her. In my opinion she was a little confused as to what she wants which is totally understandable. She was however very driven at work so that was a good quality for her. Kalen to me was all about sex. He rarely opened up unless he was talking about fucking her. I found it a bit strange that they did not discuss their jobs, goals, plans a little more especially when they started dating officially. He did have his tender moments so that was good to see.
I grew a little more suspicious to some things closer to the end which I guess paid off. I really liked Matt. I thought he was a good friend who would do Bailey right if ever given the chance. I did NOT the little shit Kevin. Yes, he made things interesting but he was a total DOUCHE!!
I am curious about what will happen in Book 2 so as long as it doesn't take forever to come out I will grab it.

Yes in some ways this is like most of the alpha male stories I have been reading about but somehow Kalen makes me go weak in the knees.
I like that Bailey is a somewhat kickass type of heroine and not just one that sits around and whine her life away.
simple story of boy meets girl. boy doesn't do commitment but is drawn to girl. girl has some issues but is drawn to boy too. they meet obstacles along the way but always managed to make up with hot steamy sex. there isn't exactly a cliffhanger but the boy and girl is far from beginning.
the bad news is we have gotta wait for the next book...
the good news is, it will only be about a mth or two wait ...

Wow what a great start to a book. The book opens with Bailey in the bathroom, just about to have sex with a super hot mysterious stranger. It was supposed to be Bailey's wedding night and instead she is in the bathroom Kalen.
The next day she goes on a blind date, whilst on her date her Kalen is also at the restaurant and he makes it clear he wants more than a one night stand. Their is great chemistry between Bailey and Kalen. There are lots of great hot sex throughout the story. However its not all about Bailey and Kalen's relationship, Bailey also has to deal with her best friends brother who declares his hidden feelings for Bailey. Bailey has also started a new job as an auditor and someone is not happy that Bailey is digging up some inaccuracies in the accounts.
For a short story there is a lot cramped into this book. There are lots of twists and turns that make you want to keep reading on. It does end on a bit of a cliffhanger and I am glad I have book 2 ready to move on to. Overall a great little sexy read :-)

I loved that Kalen was such an alpha. He knew what he wanted and ever since a chance encounter on New Year's Eve he wanted Bailey. Bailey on the other hand was still reeling from the one night stand she foolishly thought would cure her broken heart, the victim on her cheating ex-fiancé.
This book is full of twist and turns, great supporting characters and a steamy storyline. I knew something was up half way through and was pleased to be correct. This ends on a cliff hanger and boy what a cliff hanger it was. I can't wait for book 2!!!

Went to bed early to start this book and got up early to finish it. Their is enough intrigue and mystery with Kelan and Bailey that makes you want to keep reading to find out more about them. Hot sex and great characters throughout. It will be great to find out about Turner in the next one. Will definitely be reading Liabilities. Great start to a new series Shannon.

I would like to give this book 4 1/2 stars but GoodReads doesn't allow that :)
The Cover: The cover is ok but as a personal thing I don't like to see their faces. Leaves more to the imagination that way.
The Characters: The characters were good and I like how they didn't build all at once.
The Story Line: The story lime was interesting, different and intriguing.
The Writing Style: It was ok, however there were some spelling errors that made me double read.
The Ending: well let's just say that I am eagerly waiting on the next book!
...This book kind of came as a shock. I didn't expect what I got - I don't really know what I expected.
It starts off hot, leading me to wonder what I had gotten myself into and thinking it would only go down from there. The characters were introduced slowly and the plot developed with them. It was a steady, easy read and there were many questions being brought up for me. I was intrigued and captivated and wanted more. Before I knew it I could not put this book down and when I had to i was so much looking forward to finishing it. There was no huge drama from the beginning but you could feel something building as you read.
I would love to hear more about Matt and Turner and Bailey's past. I would really like to hear more with the hot biker from the bar and Lizzy.
We learned enough about the characters to satisfy us temporarily but bring us back for more.
I finally got to the end of the book, only to have some answers and yet more questions. I need the next book NOW!
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone. As of right now this story/series is a fraction behind Crossfire and Stark for me.

I received this book as an ARR from the author and I have to say I wasn't disappointed. I've never read anything by Shannon Dermott, so I had no preconceived ideas. The book is not a novella but is a fairly short read (i read it in one night) and if I have any criticism it would be that I wish it was a little longer. And although its not a criticism, its left me wanting more and WTF with that ending!!
I'm not going to give away any of the plot because I think the books description explains well enough. Although may I say, what a way to begin a book. It doesn't mess about and is straight in there with the nitty gritty.
The main characters in this book are Kalen Brinner and he is your typical alpha male that we often see in romantic novels. He's rich, a sex god with a possessive nature and I obviously has some dark past. That being said he did have a few too many stalker tendencies that in real life would send me running like the wind, but as this is fiction his stalkerishness only adds to his charm.
Bailey Glicks is your typical heroine and I have to say at times in this book I felt her pain! I wouldn't say she's the best heroine, but certainly not the worst, what i do like about her is she's strong minded and it appears her only weakness is Kalen, but then I think I'd have the same weakness if I was in her shoes.
We also get a brief glimpse into Bailey's best friend, Lizzy's love life, but she has yet to meet her man, or has she????? Put it this way, I think we'll get to see more of Lizzy and whoever in the next books or maybe she will get her own book after this trilogy.
Personally I can't wait for the next books, to see where Kalen's and Bailey's journey is headed. And all in all I am pretty impressed so far.

After getting mixed feelings she runs away in the hope she never sees this guy again.
After eating brunch on New Year’s Day with her best friend Lizzy and her parents, she goes out on a blind date with a guy who’s Lizzy’s parents had arranged. Going to the 21 Club for dinner she would never had expected to see her sexy beautiful stranger enter with a tall leggy brunette on his arm. With her date sitting across the table Baily can’t stop gazing at the other table, even as she enjoys here date the beautiful stranger keeps capturing all her attention. Overall, I liked the book, and would give it 3.5 stars out of 5. While it started with a bang, I found the start a little full of cliches. I found Bails comparing Kalen to Zeus a little unrealistic, even after I found out later she was a reader of historical romances - I haven't read many historical romances, but would think that Zeus would be more in the realm of paranormal or fantasy romances, and thought that a comparison to a modern star (Russell Crowe (sorry if he's out, as a male I'm not sure exactly who is *HOT* right now in male stars) or better yet, a young Sean Connery) would have been more realistic and in line with her character. And maybe she might have compared the sex to a rocket taking off, but having grown up in a technophobic family and not following the news since, I doubt she'd even know of the Shuttle Endeavor, let alone think of comparisons to it.
After that, I did like the storyline, and liked that fact that Bailey wasn't really comfortable with her actions, I like have my main characters conflicted and having to face internal decisions and choices that make them grow and explore themselves.
One wish I had, and I hope I'll see more of it in the sequels, is to explore Kalen's character a little more. We know he grew up poor and estranged from his billionaire father, and we certainly know he's great at sex, but even Bailey was hoping to learn more about him.
I'd also like to hear more of Lizzy and Matt's story. I think Matt is the character I like the best, and hope that things work out for him, even if it isn't with Bailey. The fact that he cares enough about her that he lets her go so she can be happy, not once, but twice, and still stands by her and helps her as when he can, speaks a lot about him and his character.
That's about all I can say without giving out some spoilers, and I'm looking forward to hearing more of their story and seeing them continue to grow.

I found Bails comparing Kalen to Zeus a little unrealistic, even after I found out later she was a reader of historical romances - I haven't read many historical romances, but would think that Zeus would be more in the realm of paranormal or fantasy romances, and thought that a comparison to a modern star (Russell Crowe (sorry if he's out, as a male I'm not sure exactly who is *HOT* right now in male stars) or better yet, a young Sean Connery) would have been more realistic and in line with her character. And maybe she might have compared the sex to a rocket taking off, but having grown up in a technophobic family and not following the news since, I doubt she'd even know of the Shuttle Endeavor, let alone think of comparisons to it.
After that, I did like the storyline, and liked that fact that Bailey wasn't really comfortable with her actions, I like have my main characters conflicted and having to face internal decisions and choices that make them grow and explore themselves.
One wish I had, and I hope I'll see more of it in the sequels, is to explore Kalen's character a little more. We know he grew up poor and estranged from his billionaire father, and we certainly know he's great at sex, but even Bailey was hoping to learn more about him.
I'd also like to hear more of Lizzy and Matt's story. I think Matt is the character I like the best, and hope that things work out for him, even if it isn't with Bailey. The fact that he cares enough about her that he lets her go so she can be happy, not once, but twice, and still stands by her and helps her as when he can, speaks a lot about him and his character.
That's about all I can say without giving out some spoilers, and I'm looking forward to hearing more of their story and seeing them continue to grow.

The first part of the novel had already had me panting – WTF.
Bailey Glicks decided to have a party and had her brains f**cked out on her supposed-to-be wedding day after her fiancé cheated on her. What she didn’t expect is for someone who looks like a god would show interest in her.
Kalen Brinner is hot as hell, knows how to push the right buttons, and freakin rich. Now why would he waste time on someone as ordinary as her?
But the sexual chemistry was just too potent to ignore. He always gets what he wants – and he wanted her. TOO MUCH. But will sex be ever be enough to sustain a relationship between two very different people?
To add up to her list of problems, the assets that she has been auditing seemed to have been tainted with fraud – and her supervisor wasn’t buying it.
I like Kalen. He knew what he wanted – and he is ALWAYS determined to pursue it no matter what the cost. He loves women, but once he set his eyes on Bailey, his eyes never wandered anywhere else. HE WAS SO HOT IN and OUT of bed, I would gladly welcome him in mine. (*SWOON*). As for Bailey – okay, she already established SHE WAS NOT THAT KIND OF GIRL. I thought she’d go into a hypocrite-mode and deny everything she has been feeling the moment she saw Kalen. Thank goodness that was not the case. TRUST is definitely an issue between these two, and Kalen as an issue as well with sharing her.
Be ready to get hot and bothered. ASSETS may be short but it’s sexy, and oozing with hotness. Will definitely make your nights a little bit warmer!
