I'm updating this to 4 stars because 24 hours later I still can't get the story off my mind…and I'm very keen to find out where Bailey, Kalen and Turner are headed to now.

I'll leave my original review as follows though…..

I feel a little harsh giving this only 3 stars, my reasons being that whilst I liked it I'm beginning to think that reading love triangles just isn't my thing because it always seem to me that whatever team I'm cheering for, the girl always picks the other guy. In saying that this storyline was left hanging out there and I will have to wait until the next release to find out who Bailey ends up with, Kalen or Turner? I've got that dreaded feeling it won't be who I pick! I'm also over cliffhangers which at the moment seem be very popular

I paid $3.99 for this one, I'm on a very strict book buying budget at the moment and I was lucky enough to pick up book 1 for $0.99 and was so engrossed that I immediately bought the next book. Ordinarily I would be fine with that but these books are quite short and there are some spelling and grammar errors and it needs some further editing. I think if you were to pay that for each book in the trilogy then that is a little overpriced. I pay less than that for a new release full length novel at Target, but that's my issue and may not be everyones.

This author really creates a good story though, and fabulous chemistry between her characters. I'll definitely be looking into some of her other series.

**SPOILERS** Spoilers for those of you who have not read "Assets".

First this book is NOT a stand alone. You must read "Assets" before reading "Liabilities".

For those of you who have read Assets then you know that Assets revolved around the relationship between Kalen and Baily. It is also about the danger that Baily is in from her findings of corruption in a major corporation. At the end of the book she is also torn apart from Kalen. But during Assets Author Shannon Dermott mentions Baily's old life and her first love, Turner. Assets leaves us with Baily running away after she is told that she cannot see Kalen. Liabilities picks up right where Assets leaves off. Baily, not knowing where else to go runs back to her old life that she ran away from in the first place. She returns to the clan where life is similar to that of the Amish. No electricity, no plumbing, Amish type clothing, men do the field labor and women cook and clean. When Baily left the clan she didn't tell anybody she was leaving including her fiance, Turner. Turner's heart was broken. The first person Baily runs into when she walks into her old hometown is Turner. It soon becomes apparent that she still has feelings for Turner and Turner openly admits that he still loves Baily. But Baily is feeling guilty because she still has feeling for Kalen.
This book is mostly about Baily and Turner and their relationship. I couldn't help falling in love with Turner but I loved Kalen in Assets so I was very torn as to who I wanted Baily to love. There is obviously more to this book than Baily's relationship with Turner. There is drama and a couple of story lines involving Baily's father and her sister. Near the end of the book Kalen shows up and the tension is thick as pea soup! Baily is caught between Turner and Kalen and she realizes that she loves both men. She also knows she must choose. Although Kalen has tracked Baily down because he loves her he is also there because Baily is still in danger. (You'll fully understand why Baily is in danger when you read Assets.) While we think we know who Baily has chosen to spend her life with near the end of the book we are left with some doubts. And even if we're right about who she's chosen there is still the chance that she may change her mind. But the book leaves us with a major cliff hanger related to the danger that Baily is in. UGH!!! Shannon how could you??? While Assets has more dramatic moments I still loved this book. There is still plenty of action the further into the book that you read.
I will recommend this book to my friends and also to those fans of contemporary romance with drama, deep love relationships and heated sex. Liabilities along with Assets are both on my favorites list.

After what Bailey had discovered with Kalen’s company – she decided to put some distance between them and go home, but first she had to let him go. What she didn’t expect was for her life to be tangled into another mess once she got home. One thing – there’s Tucker. Her first love, her first kiss, her first everything. He still wanted her, and being away from Kalen made everything just so confusing.

The longer she stayed, the more she realized that the place she called HOME was pretty much different than what she remembered. Deceit lies, and danger are lurking around the corner…

I’m so glad I get to read ASSETS first prior to reading this books, because indeed, it’s necessary. I thought being in a familiar ground surrounded by friends and family would keep her safe. I didn’t know what was more dangerous – the one who was after her because of her job or the people in her so-called community?

Kalen – I missed him in this novel. I wasn’t really THAT fond of Tucker, and I wished that Bailey would be wise enough not to succumb into temptation. Tucker was determined to have her back. Day after day, he would persuade her. I was crossing my fingers, wishing, hoping Kalen would come and drive her away from the place. She should be with KALEN!!!!! But what if Kalen had already moved on? After all, she told him to do so?

Tough decisions.

In this continuation of the series, we are once again entertained by Ms. Dermott not just with the intense sexual chemistry and attraction between the characters – but we are given the ride of our lives with all the thrill, the suspense, and the unexpected twist that Liabilities bring. The adventure and the love affair continues on the third installment of the series – EQUITY.

My thoughts:

OMG Shannon! I just finished this and sitting here all stunned as to the ending. I was even trying to restart my Kindle to double check that I got the whole book. lol! Not that the ending was bad but I really didn´t see it coming. I have been waiting for this book for so long and then when I get my hands on it I finished it in 4 hours! Come on!

So, now that I have cleared that I absolutely loved the book out of the way I am going into the book itself.
The first book (Assets ) was awesome and all about Bailey and Kalens story. It ends with Bailey leaving town to go home since she´s in danger and "Liabilities" picks up right when she does.
I was a bit bummed that there was not more of Kalen in this book since I fell inlove with him in "Assets" but I soon got another swoon worthy man in the story. I´m talking about Turner of course! =) In my eyes he is very different from Kalen but swoon worthy in other ways.

Turner is Baileys ex fiancee that she left hanging when she fled from home the first time. She thought she was over him but boy was she wrong. There was instant chemistry when they met again. This I liked but hated at the same time. How could she do that when she had Kalen!?

The setting in this book is very different from Assets since they where in New York there and in this story they are out in the middle of nowhere in Baileys home community where they live very primal. There is no plumming, no electricity. No modern day conveniences at all.

I don´t want to spoil to much so therefore I will stop here and just hope that this is enough for you to pick up the first book in the series. It is just that awesome! The only reason I am not giving this book a 5 in rating is cause Assets got that rating and even though this book was awesome it did not top Assets.
I can´t wait for book three called Equity!

***This may contain spoilers for book 1 (sorry!!)***

This books starts off exactly where book one finished. Bailey has gone back home after the events of book 1 left her feeling that she was in danger. Once Bailey is home she bumps straight into her ex, Turner and it is obvious that the chemistry between the two of them is still there. However Bailey is still torn over her feelings for Kalin.

Something that made this book a little different is that Bailey's home is an Amish community. Not really knowing a lot about the Amish community is was great to get a little insight. Bailey's family is also introduced and we get to meet her sisters and brothers.

The story is mainly about Bailey's and Turner's relationship. There are still some great hot and steamy scenes but I felt that we got to learn a lot more about Bailey in this book through her interactions with Turner and her family. I couldn't help but fall in love with Turner. Even through Bailey left him years ago he still loves her. However things get a little complicated when Kalen turn's up and Bailey must decide who she loves and wants to be with. Although I did love Turner I still would have liked more of Kalen in the story.

As with the first book there are lots of things happening in the story that keep you hooked especially the last 25%. Once again this instalment is fairly short and it didn't take me long to read. The book does end on a major cliff-hanger and I'm sure even though I think I know who Bailey has chosen that there will be lots more twists and turns in the next book. The last section was very cleverly written if not a little annoying for no names being revealed. I can't wait for the third book!!

Liabilities by Shannon Dermott is the second book in her serialized mini-series, Balance Sheet. It is the stunning continuation of Assets and takes us back to Bailey's past in Pennsylvania.

**Warning**This review contains spoilers for the first book**

Bailey has left New York and Kalen behind. A requirement, as part of the audit investigation, that they no longer keep seeing each other causes her to run. She's had enough of heartache and she decides to go home. The community she was raised in (picture ALMOST Amish) is not quite ready for the outside world that Bailey can't help but bring with her. She is not quite ready for seeing her first love again either.

Turner is the love she left behind. He was her first love and her first lover. She's not quite over him and he's definitely not over her. While Bailey tries to get her mind straight over the men in her life there's a threat nipping at her heels. Kalen shows up at the compound/community with bad news and witnesses first hand Bailey's feelings that still exist, not only for him but for Turner.

Again, this ends on another cliffhanger, but, fear not, the conclusion (Equity)to this great storyline will be out some time in March 2014. Another un-put-down-able book.

I was given an ARC of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book from the author in the Balance Sheet series and it is just as good as its predecessor. This story picks up with Bailey on the run, forced away from Kalen. She found evidence of corruption in a big time corporation and now her life may be in danger. The only place that she has to go is back to her old life (an Amish setting) and to Turner, the man she left behind without a second glance. There is obviously unresolved business between the pair and a load of sexual tension. I loved Kalen so much in the first book, but found myself being charmed by Turner. If I was in Bailey’s situation, I would be torn between these two men, both of whom have feelings for her. This book focuses more on Bailey and Turner’s relationship, but let’s not leave Kalen out, as he shows up to reclaim Bailey. But there is danger and not to mention the fact that Bailey is in love with both men….and then…the end. What a cliffhanger. OMG. I really enjoyed this book and especially Kalen and Turner, two men who seem by all appearances to be polar opposites, yet both yearn for the same woman. This book is full of sexual tension, desire and need. It will leave you clamoring for more. I cannot wait for the finale to this series. .

4 out of 5 stars.l

Well damn it! I was kinda expecting, I dont know, way more than I got. Where was all the hot and sweating scenes with Kalen???? Even with Kalen's POV at the end I still didnt get enough of him!

Its obvious that Bailey and Kalen belong together but as we learned in the first book its not possible. At least for a bit. But then Bailey runs away to her home town for something simple. She left because she was bigger than this life she used to have and you just know its not meant to be but she's still there "thinking" things through. What she needs to do is get the hell out and stand on her own two feet. Put on your big girl pants, regardless of how uncomfortable, and make decisions like an adult.

Now someone is after her and it doesnt look good for her. Can she stay safe or will things go down hill for her?

I wanted to like this as much as Asset but it lacked big time both in what could have been some major bedroom fireworks and storyline.

I was given this book thru the author for an honest review. I loved book 1 Assets! I loved how Liabilities started where Assets left off. So Bailey left Kalin to run back home where she runs into her first love Turner. (Bailey is still in danger tho) The relationship between her and Turner is sweet and believable, but she still loves Kalin. There isn't as much action in this story as in Assets but its still an awesome romance book. You can't read this as a stand alone story you need to read Assets first but you won't be disappointed Shannon Dermott will have you hooked! Liabilities was mostly about Bailey and Turner living in her Amish clan. When Kalin shows up the heat is on. Bailey must decide who she loves, but realizes she loves both men! Another cliff hanger for this awesome series. I can't wait to find out what happens in book 3! Thank you again for letting me read & review :) also posted review on b&n.com

FAST read. Super fast. I'm hanging my fangirl head in shame... I LOVE Shannon Dermott. Love, love, love... but this one, not so much. I'd only give it 3½-4♥'s on this. Boils down to just NOT liking Bailey this time around, not liking her choices in any way, shape, or form. In fact, I wanted to reach through my Kindle and throttle her... alot. I feel like a little girl throwing a tantrum... but Bailey's making wrong choices, dammit. *stomps foot repeatedly* BAD BAILEY! No toe-curling sex for you!

A little disappointed in this one. Although still good there was far too little Kalen in this story. The wishy washyness between the guys was a little frustrating. I don't know may be it was the whole Amish community that kind of made for a boring setting. I'm holding on strong that Shannon will end it strong in book three though. (And fingers crossed Bailey ends up with the right guy *wink wink* Kalen)I really do love the characters just not sure this one really did it for me.

Hmmmm not much to say except it was really good! To hear the way Bailey lived before she left her community was something! And then to start it off with Turner, and it end it with Kalen going into the community, WOW! Two hotties loving the same girl! Now I say it's time for Equity to come out! Can't wait!

I did not enjoy this book as well as I did the first in the series. When I purchased "Assets" I fell hard for both characters. The relationship between them was steamy and believable. In this book Bailey leaves Kalen and goes back home where she runs into her past, hot hunky Turner who still loves her. Mind you Turner is hot and any woman would be a liar if they didn't go weak in the knees for a chance at him. Torn between the first love she left behind and the man she desires who sent her away Bailey must not only come to terms with her feelings but deal with the changes that have happened in her absence. While I liked Turner I didn't feel the hot chemistry between them like I did with her and Kalen. The relationship felt forced as if the writer wanted us to hope Bailey would chose the safe and steady Turner over Kalen. When Kalen turns up Bailey is forced to make a choice and while the writer tries to keep you guessing but the choice is obvious and a let down.

While I enjoy series and Ms. Dermott ends both books in the series with a cliff hanger I wonder how many more books she will write in this series. I have seen a recent trend where writers create these novella's and continue to string the readers along in endless sequels. What shows to be a promising book turns quickly into a soap opera. Hopefully Ms. Dermott does not fall prey to this type of writing because I do believe she is a talented writer and thoroughly enjoyed the first book of this series. This book just seemed like a bridge to the next and the depth was lacking.

Comparing this book to the first one it was a little disappointing to me. Of course a very large part of it was cause there wasn’t as many parts with Kalen in it. And of course he is one of my favourites. The whole Amish country setting was a little boring to read and also the wishy-washy parts between the two guys was really annoying to read. I was very thankful that this wasn’t a long book to read.

Also this gave me a different idea of what Bailey as really like. I loved the way she was in the first book with her fierceness and independence but the minutes she got home it was like she completely changed to a different person. Which had me confused a little and I wasn’t too sure about that change. Also I know that Turner was supposed to be Bailey’s first boyfriend and all that but he really didn’t have as much chemistry as Bailey and Kalen. I know Shannon tried to show that they were lovers before but I just couldn’t feel it come off the pages like Bailey’s and Kalen’s did. It just didn’t seem real to me. And just didn’t do it for me.

I did enjoy the Bailey’s POV but there was one particular scene where Bailey sleeps with one of the guys but it’s not clear as to which one. When it eventually becomes clear I just don’t understand why she’s done it. I really didn’t like this scene am hoping that this would lead to a story in the next book.

However, with that all said the ending still had me wanting more.

I was a little confused by this book. Not confused as in I didn't understand it, but it was such a far cry from the first book, and there were little things that popped up that really did make me question things.

Everything I thought I knew about Bailey was tossed aside, because she was absolutely nothing like the girl I thought she was in book one. Sure she was fierce and independent, but the minute she stepped back on home soil she seemed to change, and it kinda gave me whiplash because I was not expecting this sudden change of pace. Maybe it's because this story went from fast paced sex in the city to quite small town. Or it may have been the lack of a certain gorgeous Scotsman.

I did enjoy the book, however, I felt that some events were just thrown in as fillers, and certain plot twists were too predictable. I will say that I was surprised by the ending. Not the very ending that sees Turner and Kalen partnering up to go after the girl they both love, but the final scene from Bailey's POV. It kept me guessing, and then when the POV shifted to Kalen's, and I had that light bulb moment, I truly was shocked to say the least.

This booked didn't quite have as much passion and romance as the first, and I felt a little disappointed by it, but the very ending did leave me wanting more. I'm excited to see who will get the girl, and if the villian out to get her will finally be brought to justice.

Nope, nope, nope... didn't work at all for me.

Suddenly we have not two, not three but FOUR men lusting/in love with sweet, innocent, super hot Bailey.... and not only that, but I found it extremely interesting that of aaaaaall the names in the world, two of them are Mike's, that's right, it's Kalen, Turner, Mike 1 and Mike 2.

I have questions that might seem dumb but, as a teacher I have to say "there aren't dumb questions, just dumb people who don't ask questions" so... how is it possible that Bailey's parents had 5 children, do they use any birth control? (you know, no to electricity but yes to birth control pills?), if they don't then, do they go by the whole "how many children God sends us"?
What is it about Bailey that is so appealing that it has 4 men falling madly in love with her?
How can it be that Bailey was born and raised in this Amish-ish community that has all these rules but even before she left, she was breaking all of them... or al least the ones related to sex?
Why all of her sisters are jealous of Bailey?, what is it that makes her so special?... seriously!

Bleh!... got annoyed with this book, good thing it was a short one. Doubt I'll read the last one.

Originally I had this listed as 3 stars, but for the mere fact that I couldn't put this book down I had to bump it up to 3.5 stars.
I loved the first book Assets and was expecting so much from this installment, but I ended up no feeling Turner at all... like really I don't like him at all. I really loved their (Turner and Bailey) story - all nostalgic and whatnot, first love going back home - but I can't ... I just can't. I was full on jaw on the floor regarding them. You will know why once you read it... I can't say anymore because I will not spoil it for you.
I was left with a What The Hell feeling, as usual, because Dermott has an amazing ability to leave you wanting more with her series installments. I love the way she is able to wrap up her stories and yet still dangle you over the cliff so securely.

In short - go pick up this series - you will LOVE it!
I will most certainly be picking up Equity as soon as it becomes available!!

It was okay, but I am surprised in reading other reviews that there were not comments about the fact that Lizzy's brother's name was Matt in the first book but somehow became Mike in this one, which was confusing as Bailey's sister Violet's husband's name is also Mike. That is a serious mistake. I hope this is corrected in the third book. Also, I was disappointed in how the story ends with this second installment. I do like the thriller aspect that has been introduced, however. I love intrigue in a story, so it will be interesting to see how this plot aspect pans out. It's the changing of Lizzy's brother's name that has annoyed me in this one.

I liked the first book in this series bc the H was so sexy. However, the h had no issues flirting with other guys and leading them on. The beginning of this book is one long tease with her old flame who she ran out on. She showed no shame in enticing him even though she had no plans to get back together with him. She behaved in a similar manner in the last book with her BF's brother. I'm out.
