Beside the still water...the zombies roam. A slightly different take on the zombie genre, Smooth asks if the world be better if we were all neutral and complacent (without violence, greed, hatred, and yes, love and compassion) as parts of our personalities? The road to absolute peace is filled with more than just bumps and gravel when catt dahman tells it; heads will roll...literally. The town of Cold Springs is about to receive the gift of full serenity and some people intend to fight it (as well as the zombies) all the way to the end!

Smooth, the latest novel from Catt Dahman (author of the highly traumatic Z Is For Zombie series), is exactly what it says on the tin. A smooth, slick horror tale that quickly sweeps you up in its arms then proceeds to throw you head-first over a cliff!

Pax and his dog Katie have given up their former life to travel hundreds of miles across State to visit the woman Pax has been having an online relationship with. But they picked the wrong day to come traveling! Very soon, the heavens open up and rain begins to fall from the sky.....but not just any ordinary rain. Those caught out in it turn murderously savage before falling into a catatonic fugue state from which their personalities are barely visible any more. It is as though they have given up all semblance of life and as if they have suddenly gone...smooth.

Pax joins a group of survivors holed up in Coral's Diner but as the rain continues to fall and the waters begin to rise, the group are forced to question both themselves and the very nature of their humanity. Is it better to give up and stop caring when hope suddenly starts seeming scarce or is it better to keep on fighting until the bitter end?

This was an awesome book that pays great homage to Richard Laymon's One Rainy Night whilst still managing to preserve and maintain an identity all of its own! I personally found it unputdownable and stayed up until 2 in the morning reading this to the end! Once again Miss Dahman has surpassed herself with a chilling and scary tale that will haunt you for days every time you see a dark cloud and whose imagery will remain with you for a long time after finishing the last page!

It is highly intense and about as grim and nasty as you might expect a book from such a twisted and disturbed lady's mind to be but it is also lots of fun! Probably not one for the squeamish, I can highly recommend this to anyone looking for something....a little bit different! It is not nice at times but it is also a cracking read and certainly an original and innovative novel that really takes you somewhere you might not want to go! Extremely well written, it is a roller-coaster ride from beginning to end and right up there with Miss Dahman's best work to date!

I can't wait to see what Catt's twisted psyche comes up with next....

Being a fan of Catt Dahman’s books I NEVER know what to expect from them except…horror…terror…blood…gore…and an exceptional story that always stays with me long afterward. Smooth is no exception! This was such an amazing book with a different twist on zombies and will leave you wishing it will never rain again! With a descriptive writing style, Ms. Dahman paints a not so pretty picture of terror and heartbreak for the characters and for the reader. I was cheering for them and crying with them as the story unfolded. Yes…you will come to love a lot of the characters in this story and also hate quite a few but you will walk away from this story with a sense of completion. I definitely recommend this book to anyone loving a good story with a twisted ending! Once again I say Thank You Ms. Dahman for another unforgettable book that I will think of every time it rains!
