About the author

D.W. Jackson was born in McAlester Oklahoma, Attended College at Oklahoma City University, and Northeastern State University. As soon as he graduated high school in 2001 he joined the Oklahoma National Guard. In 2003 he was Sent along with five others from his unit to Iraq where he spent slightly over a year in deployment. After returning home he worked as a pipeline surveyor traveling all across the U.S. in 2009 he took a job as a correctional officer for the state of Oklahoma where he worked at both a medium and minimal security level prison. In 2012 his heath declined and was unable to continue working. With time on his hands and out of books to read he decided to pursue his dream of being a writer.

I dropped the book almost instantly. Thad saved the princess life twice in the first book and the queen once, but she still had the balls to imprison and torture him after all the good he had done for her. I started this book expecting to find how he would escape and take his revenge on her, but instead i find him completely meek and empathizing with that bitch and he actually agrees to help her.
That's a deal breaker for me.

There were such a ridiculous amount of spelling and grammar errors in this book that I'm not sure how it even got published...I would be shocked if someone told me it had been proofread even one time.

Mixed Feelings

While I enjoyed the first book in the series and could have enjoyed this one too, if my review was simply based on the plotline, this novel is so full of grammar and spelling errors to the point they become distracting. Also the story drags in parts with details that aren't really necessary to the development of the plot. If these problems were fixed, my review would be higher as the base storyline is good.

Branded, yet still Free

This was fun and thrilling with twists in a War. Learning to use magic is as fun as creating new magic things.
Magic and War is another way to create new ways to kill the enemy.

Interesting Story-line but the grammar was so bad I could hardly concentrate. It shows how little care the author had for the story. It could have been a 4 star book if there was more effort in the editing.

Loved the last book the story stays true to its origins and the characters continue to grow and develop. Again the inventiveness of learning magic from the point of view of a young man figuring it out as he goes is captivating. If you enjoy the fantasy/Mage world at all, the reawakening saga is a gotta have! Cannot wait to start book 3. Great reading everyone.

The beginning was a little ridiculous, at the end of the first book Thad was thrown in the queen's dungeon when he accidentally exposed himself while saving the queen's and the princess' life. after being there, starving, drugged and whatnot, he agrees to help the queen out on his own terms. I thought this was a little ridiculous, but after a while it made sense.

The writing also got so much better, there was still the occasional spelling or grammar error, but there was suddenly su much more detail which was what I really wanted, until the end which I could have done without the detail. Read gruesome for my taste.

I had to give this book 5 starts because even though it was rife with bad grammar, Spelling and misused words I was so caught up in the story I could not put it down and had to immediately move on to the next book when finished.

I enjoyed the book, but i would have like to see a little more situation where he got discriminated against, since he is a slave after all. honestly even with the brand you don't see him lose to many privileges, and even one of the noble women wanted to wed him to her heir?

Overall a good story. Better than book one except for the use of modern slang terms. Terms like bro and props tended to break the mood. Also still a lot of spelling errors.
