Samara Oldroyd takes a break from her somewhat insane family to browse a music store, and while there, meets the funniest, most attractive and awesome guy ever. A phone call interrupts their conversation, and she has to leave before she can find out anything about him--what his name is, where he's from, and why his smile is so familiar.
Her wishes that they'll run into each other again come true, but not how she expects. When her older sister finally lets the family meet her new boyfriend, Samara is shocked to see it's the guy from the music store!
Awkward and hilarious scenes abound as Samara tries--in vain--to undo the crush she'd formed earlier. Inspired by the film Dan in Real Life, this novella will tickle you pink.
Andrea, a Brigham Young University graduate, is an avid reader and outdoor enthusiast (hiking, fishing, boating, biking, spending time in the Rocky Mountains, and taking walks). She spent a year and a half serving the Spanish speaking community in Toronto, Canada, and fluently speaks 2 ½ languages. She plays several instruments, not including the banjo, and loves putting together musical arrangements. Her favorite sports are basketball and football, though several knee surgeries and incurably awful coordination prevent her from playing them.
Andrea is always in the mood for a good movie with close friends and family (especially her husband and mom), with a large glass of milk and a bowl of overly buttered popcorn nearby. She also enjoys oil painting, making earrings, squeezing every bit of oxygen out of Ziploc bags, and she hopes to someday travel to Italy and Alaska.
This loveable story was a joy to read. It took me back to when I was sixteen and experiencing crushes and what I believed was love. Samara is not any different when it comes to this difficult teenage phase. She meets Matt and they have an instant connection and quite a bit in common. After spilling the news of her newfound heartthrob to her older sister, she makes the shocking discovery that who she is crazy about is her sister’s new boyfriend, who is also captain of the football team at her school. Samara now has to try to quench her feelings for Matt but is constantly running into him. They both play the guitar and even end up performing together in a talent show. I really enjoyed this story. As I fore stated, it took back to a confusing yet unforgettable time in my life. I would LOVE to see a movie adaptation of this story!
SWEET TARTS!!! Awe. This is such a sweet and loveable tale. It's a short and sweet page turning treat for everyone. You have your action, fast paced, smooth flowing read that hooks you from the start and reels you in for the duration. Andrea really does her characters up extremely realistic with personalities that blend and play off one another perfectly. The scenes are so vivid they come alive before your eyes. Twists and turns and a few surprises ramp up the suspense and keep moving forward. Andrea did an incredible job bringing this read to life flawlessly. Fantastic job Andrea, thanks for sharing this awesome read with us.
Such a sweet story. Molly was a big flirt. Matt was her current boyfriend. Little did Samara know when she happened to meet him at the music store. Samara immediately crushed on him. Then surprise! Matt came to pick up Molly for a date. I totally felt Samara’s angst over the situation. But when Molly finally showed her true colors, Matt was stunned. But this is only a portion of the story. I would highly recommend you read it for yourself as Ms Pearson does an exceptional job with her multidimensional characters.
This is a story about two sisters, Samara and Molly, and how they fall for the same guy. One sister is egotistical and the other is sensible. Of course Matt meets the vain sister, Molly, first. Matt and Samara have to do a duet at a concert and they get to really like each other. Matt finally realizes that Molly is not for him. What is he to do? The author, Andrea Pearson, tells the story of two totally different sisters but their family still loves them. There is a message for all of us in this book. It is not only for the YA but for every one of all ages.
Samara is a short and sweet little romance with a couple Kilenya characters thrown in. It gives a nice bit of backstory for a side character I never really even thought much about. I recommend reading this novella to anyone who is a Kilenya fan. It would probably be best after reading at least the first Kilenya book so you already know who the characters are.
Although none of the action takes place in Kilenya, this lovely teen romance does have related charcters. Full of summer fun, family drama, and a magical meeting of kindred spirits, this is well worth reading. I am not normally a fan of romance books, but the characters are so full and interesting in this book, it is definitely an exception for me.
Samara is a cute little romance about two beloved characters from the Kilenya series. It is a fun, quick read. The great thing about it is that there are no x-rated scenes, just sweet romance. It was great to learn the back story of Matt and Sam. Now I want to know more about Sam's family...*I received a free eBook copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
OMG! What can i say about this story. I laughed, i screamed, I cried and I loved it!!!! I loved the characters and the feel good story. I was mad at Matt in the beginning but fell in love with him right along with Sammy later.. I highly recommend this read for any age group. Happy Reading!!!!!
A sweet, well-written short story. Matt is awesome, and it's fun seeing how he and Sam met, but it had nothing to do with Kilenya, which was a little confusing for me.
I received a free copy, and this is an honest review.
This was a very easy and quick read. It was definitely more of a younger feel, if you don't mind that. While reading Kilenya you forget that everyone is so young most of the time. This short story is a great addition to that series, giving more back story to Matt!
I got the opportunity to read this novella by Andrea. Its a cute story. As I'm a total romantic, it was perfect for me!
First the synopsis: When Samara Oldroyd meets the most amazing guy ever, she's frustrated their conversation is cut short. Her wishes that they'll run into each other again come true when she meets her sister's new boyfriend. It's him! Eeek! Inspired by the film Dan in Real Life, this novella will tickle you pink as Samara tries—in vain—to undo her crush.
I enjoyed this story. It was fun to see how Samara interacted with her family. You can feel the growing annoyance in the car as the trip drags on to their destination. It brings back many memories of those long car trips!
Then she meets Matt who is every girl's dream and every Mom's dream for her daughter. But of course there's the problem of him already dating her sister. Her act of trying to stop having a crush on him is hilarious. Because the second you try to stop thinking about something or someone, you end up thinking about them more. I love that she is comfortable enough with Matt to tell him - and I enjoyed his reaction.
This is a fun romance story for all readers. I can't wait to read more of Andrea's books and novellas!
I loved it! I was sad that it was so short, but since I read this after Ember Gods, I knew how it was going to turn out. It would be fun to have companion books to the Kilenya books from others point of view. How does Sammy handle Matt just off and disappearing all of the time? This would definitely be good to read before Ember Gods. But, even if you've already read them, it's still great! I like that Samara figures out how to handle her crush until she can do something about it. That Molly was quite the character. I'm very curious as to how things turn out with the family. If Molly becomes more humble from having to pay for things herself and if the dad is able to get a job! I want to know!
It was a fun book and quick to read. The characters were easy to like, but slightly predictable. The setting was fun and I wished I could be there with her to enjoy the vacation. I was expecting it to have magic or other world dimensions because of the "Kilenya" in the title. I kept waiting for something magical to happen so I wonder if my opinion of the story was skewed that way. I also knew what would happen in the end, though I enjoyed being proven right, I still longed for a bit of surprise. Other wise I probably would have given it 4 stars. So go into it knowing that it doesn't take place in any other world but your own.
Short read, funny and light! I couldn't stop laughing with Sam's internal dialogue and witty comments of her family especially with her older sister Molly whose boyfriend is Matt. Matt was just a dream! Captain of the football team in High School, funny, kind and a talented guitarist and vocalist and a hero! What more can you ask?
I wasn't sure how the story would end, as Matt was with Molly and Sam just couldn't help but fall in love with him but I was pleasantly suprise of how the story wrapped up. I just wish that the author could have had added an epilogue of how they both got on at school. Highly recommended.
Endearing love story. Unlike most of the Kilenya books, this one takes place on earth. Samara finds the coolest guy and is looking forward to getting to know him better. She is disappointed to find out he is her sister's boyfriend. How will she get through a week being around him and get over her crush on him. Matt likes Samara immediately but is dating her sister. Will they be able to endure a week together and not hurt the sister Molly. Great book.
This was a short contemporary romance. Sadly I did not like it. I knew how this story would go in the first few minutes of reading it, very predictable. This book felt like it was written by a teen at one point the father looses his job and announces it to everyone at the dinner table even extended family and friends were eating at. There was just a general immature feeling to the whole book.
Loved this book, Poor Samara, Andrea Pearson's writing once again makes your heart squeeze, I think this situation is one many young Girls have found themselves in, and the story makes you feel you are right there with the characters. I can't spoil the story, but this book Is definitely worth a read
Not being a reader of romances I found this book to be enjoyable yet predictable. I did enjoy meeting some of Samara's brothers. And it was nice to see that Matt took the time to have fun with them rather than spending all of his time focused on his girlfriend.
This is Matt’s story of finding the right love of sacrifice and compassion. Matt’s medical skills learned in the Kilenya series’ war comes in handy in this story. I felt like I was left hanging a little bit at the end, but it ended well. Definitely my favorite short novel ever written by Andrea.
This is a fun little book. I like the movie Dan in real life so it was fun to read a similar story. I thought there was a little too much teenage drama but it's still a great story!
Oh my goodness!! I loved this novella so very much. Andrea is an amazing writer. She is definitely a favorite. This story was sweet and such an inspiring, compassionate one.
This was a quick read about some of the characters in Key of Kilenya. Though I thought some of the characters did not stay true in this romance, it was a fun read.
