Wee William's Woman

Rate this book
Scotland, 1345

They call him Wee William. Though he stands nearly seven feet tall, with arms and legs the size of tree trunks and hands as big as buckets, there is nothing wee about him. His scowl alone is enough to make most men's bones rattle with fear. And women, rather than swooning, tend to run in the opposite direction.

The giant Highlander is a self-proclaimed bachelor who has sworn for years that there isn't a woman in all of Scotland worth shaving his beard for, and for good reason. Years ago, after a bonny young lass broke his heart and left his dignity in shreds, he swore never again to put it in such peril. As a testament to his sincerity, he vowed never again to shave his beard.

Then he met her. In a single heartbeat, Wee William was lost. Forever lost to a brown-haired beauty with gray-blue eyes brimming with tears—a woman in need.

On her wedding night, Nora realized she made a terrible mistake. She had agreed to wed Horace Crawford when he promised her younger siblings would live with them. He soon broke his word and sent them away. Horace soon proved a harsh, cruel husband who owned no heart, nor a shred of decency.

On a dark, cold winter’s night, when Nora had almost given up hope of ever saving her siblings and herself, God answered her prayers in a most peculiar way. Through a band of fierce Highlanders on a mission to retrieve small but priceless treasures. Treasures she had unwittingly harbored.

Little did the Highlanders know they would return with more than those treasures… They would return with Wee William’s Woman.

Another amazing book by the wonderful Suzan Tisdale!! I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars! From the second I started reading Wee William's Woman I was hooked and had to hide my e-reader a couple of times so that I could force myself to put it down! Suzan is such an amazing writer who has a way of making you feel as if you are apart of the story yourself! I felt all of the love, laughs, hurt and battles the characters felt, as if I were in their place! I was so drawn to Wee William's character, personality and love for everyone he cares about. His feelings for Nora are so touching, deep and true and what every woman dreams of finding! I love how a man who is referred to as a giant, is the kindest, sweetest man a you will ever meet. He is the true definition on a warrior, who will stop at nothing to protect his own at no costs. I admire Nora's character as well! Her strength, determination and ability to take whatever stands in her way to her true destiny! She is just as fierce as any warrior you will meet! Thank you so much Suzan for such a beautiful Scottish romance and for all of your hard work! You have very quickly become one of my favorite authors!

There’s something about a man in a kilt that will make me swoon. Kilts are sexy any way you cut it! Add in a Scottish brogue and I’m a goner! But the icing on the cake? A Scottish Highlander who’s fierce in battle, gentle with the ladies and playful with the kids. How could I ever resist?

Wee William is such a man. He’s dreamy, he’s sexy, he’s fierce and he’s a dreamboat with a wall around his heart. Wee William has his heart broken as a young man and as a result, he’s refused to shave his beard until he finds a woman worthy of his heart.

Nora married out of necessity. The man she ended up marrying is the worst sort of man. He’s cruel, he’s harsh, and he cares only for himself.

Wee William storms into Nora’s life one night. With these words “Would ye like to become a widow this night?” he alters her life forever. She becomes a free woman. She resolves to get her brother and sister from Firth and start a new life with them.

Wee William, being the honorable man he is, goes with her to Firth. And so it begins. Wee William doesn’t stand a chance.

This was awesome. I love how it ties back to the first story in the series, Laiden's Daughter. It feels like coming home to revisit that story. It’s fitting. It’s perfect.

I must admit I was laughing so hard as everyone conspired to get Wee William to admit his feelings for Nora. That was awesome!

Suzan Tisdale does an amazing job of drawing you into the story. You feel like you’re there with the characters and can feel every heartbeat, every breath they have. I love the way she carries the Scottish Brogue through the entire story without missing a beat. It adds to the experience.

I get sucked in so much that when my DH asked me a question, I answered him with “Aye”. He looked at me, blinked, shook his head and muttered, “reading about men in skirts again.” “They’re kilts honey, and it’s sexy.”

I’m really looking forward to the next one in this series, Rowan’s Lady. I’m excited about each of them getting their happily ever after. They’re warriors, they’re fierce and they deserve some lovin’.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I've been meaning to try Suzan Tisdale's books since I first heard of them, but I finally got around to it. And, yes... kicking myself for waiting because I was missing out on the humor, excitement, heartwarming romance, and gritty adventure of her medieval Highland Romances.

Wee William's Woman is book three in the Clan MacDougall series. I jumped in with this book and was pleased that I was easily able to read it out of order though there was definitely a tie between it and earlier books and even earlier series.

From the first moment I encountered him on the page, I adored William. He's a huge giant of a man, a bit rough around the edges, loyal to his clan and friends, and oh so hopeful that he can someday find love and a family like his friend Duncan. But, a past woman did a number on him with her mockery and insults so he thinks all women will see him as a dumb, huge oaf.
Not Nora, though... To her, Wee William is her savior and gallant knight. He brings her away from a terrible situation and helps her rescue her younger siblings to take them all back with him to Scotland. He makes a few errors by choosing not to tell her the truth about her former, abusing husband who is now set on their trail for revenge. Meanwhile, someone else is set to destroy the peace between the clans and start a war using two naive young people to accomplish it.

I loved the medieval Highland world the author created. Clan and family life were wonderful. The historical backdrop of trouble with opposing clans and the English was there to keep things exciting. There was intrigue wrapped around the historical romance and the romance was a blend of fun, sweet, and spice. William was as engaging a hero as I've encountered and it was hilarious to see the way he fought his feelings at first, but reacted when the others teased and baited him into doing what he really wanted. Nora was more mercurial. She got her dander up a lot and was sometimes naively impulsive, but she loved William and endured much before he came along. They both did well giving her young siblings a home.

The book was not all about William and Nora. The greater clan story involving previous main characters and other regular Clan MacDougall members and the clan affairs also played a large part of the book's plot. I enjoyed that there were several lesser threads weaving together with the main plot.

Now, that I've read my first, I'm eying the rest of the author's books on my shelves with more eagerness. Loved getting back to the Highlands of Scotland for some history, fun, and romance. I can definitely recommend this one to other like-minded readers.

ok i'm confused. With about 5 hrs left the story shifted to focus on Bree, Gillan, Nial and some other plots. What the hell?!?!? Seriously if William's story couldn't carry a whole book then do a novella and leave it at that. I enjoy the characters but damn!! oh and can i say SHE'S ONLY 17!!! I know that in the time period young brides are the norm but I like my romance heroines to be older than 18. YES that one year makes a difference dammit.

4hrs left....

yes the story took a serious jug handle when it went on a tangent with other storylines. This was a 15.5hr audiobook. there was no logical reason to include the extra bits to this book. I spoke with the author and she assured me that the extra stuff will make sense in the next book (which i haven't gotten yet). My only thought was put the extra stuff in a novella or add it to the next book (which is less than 5hrs long). The extra took me out of William and Nora's story enough for me to complain and talk to the author about it. that's not a good response. and because of the extra stuff this book gets 2 stars instead of the 3 stars i would have normally given it.

story 2
narrator 2.5

i've heard this narrator before and I said it then and i'll say it again. his children's voices make his performance laughable. if there are no kids in the book then he's alright if there are.....so sorry.

God’s teeth! I loved this book-- about a giant of a warrior with the kindest of hearts and a poorly treated and beaten woman who made some wrong choices. They join destinies where family is the most precious of commodities.

I listened to the audiobook of this book, therefore attached review is based on that.

As mammoth as Wee William is, this story is many-paged and hours of pure listening pleasure. Suzan Tisdale immediately drops us into action – Wee William and his almost equally fierce men are looking for treasure. It looked like they were going to kill for it!

The scene unfolds with events softening the listeners/readers heart. These men weren’t looking for treasure out of greed, but out of love to one mishandled wee lass who was newly married to their clan’s laird. My heart furthered softened in how he treats the woman he finds tied, yes tied to Horace Crawford. Wee William, that very evening fell in love, not knowing what love felt like, yet knowing he had to convince this woman to stay with him.

This first scene sets the mood for the remainder of the story. The author, with great detail develops each scene building on the one previous. Horace Crawford was the bad-ass wife beater who Nora tried to escape many a time. His two other brothers lived with them, so she had little chance to escape. Each time she had, she would be found and beaten.

When Horace kept trying to defend himself verbally after Nora had been cut from his ankle, I loved what Wee William said, in the wonderfully gruff and common language of this giant, as spoken by the talented Brad Wills.

“Ye utter another word, you cur, I’ll rip your tongue out and feed it to you through your ass!”

As you can well imagine, it made me laugh! Very descriptive, indeed!

In the first scene Wee William asks Nora if she wants to be a widow. Beaten, one eye closed and swollen, this is something she had prayed for, and thought it a unique way for God to answer her prayers. She nods. Wee William sent his men out to get rid of the three brothers. He sent them without a stitch of clothing, just shoes in the middle of winter. Laird Agnus told his warriors not to kill, so instead of following William’s orders, they left the three brothers to die, miles from the hut.

The rub is, if Horace is alive, she is still married and can’t marry William (which William discovers he wants). But Nora thinks she’s a widow, so lives her life as if she is free. Again, it is extremely funny how Wee William engineers the events to his favor.

Brad Wills never disappoints me when he narrates. His voice was gruff, deep and ‘huge’ for Wee William, which of course, suited him perfectly. I adored the voice he had for Nora’s little six-year-old sister. The character was as cute as a button, sensitive and truly lovable. When Brad Wills pitched his voice 2 octaves above Wee William, it always made me smile. Bravo, Brad! What a great voice range!

This story is about pay-back to those who have done evil and promises are not kept, cherishing family and protecting them even if resources and capabilities are limited. It’s about honor, never giving in to a promise you have made. It’s about camaraderie among men and friendship among women. Readers and listeners, I highly recommend this series. It will tickle your funny bone, melt your heart, curl your toes and make your heart race.

I received this audiobook as a win on a blog and I am so happy I did! Thank you Suzan Tisdale for the great tale and to Brad Willis who narrated it so marvelously!

Sooo, it my current obsession with all things Scottish, I have been reading Suzan Tisdale's books. As someone who did not even know where the romance books were in the bookstore until I was forty-five, this genre is a new experience for me. I dabbled in it with Debbie Macomber's gentle and soothing books four years ago, and put the genre aside. At the tender age of 49, the more mature rated romances seem to be hitting a nerve now. But I am finding myself vastly annoyed that so many authors seem to use the same shtick. Virtuous, spunky, strong-willed virgin meets very experienced warrior who never knew love until now. It more than perurbs me, that the men are so " experienced" and that is considered a good thing. And then, of course, (sorry to be blunt) is the sex. Tooooo much! I appreciate a romping, love-filled sex scene between two in-love characters, but enough about "stirring loins" every other sentence. ALL that being said, SUZAN TISDALE is a big notch up. I care about her characters, and I appreciate that her books' intimate scenes are thoughtfully and well placed instead of being HBO-like and gratuitously scattered. Her books do have some of what I consider to be the genre's issues, but they seem to fall more in the background and are definitely surpassed by the depth of her characters. She also has an excellent sense of humor! I found myself laughing out loud frequently!! So, if you too, find yourself in a time of your life when big men in kilts and daring women call you to adventure, I recommend Suzan Tisdale!

4.7!!! I have had a... dare I say... GIANT sized crush on Wee William since book two...he is the true definition of a gentle giant. Nora was a strong, yet innocent leading lady and she was amazing. Actually I loved all the characters in this story, but the development of the side characters like John, Elise and the disgusting Horace, were so perfectly done, they felt like main characters. I did have to check in the middle of the book to see if I accidentally switched books on my kindle, because there's a weird transition and introduction of new characters, but I will say it was all tied up nice and neat in the end! Can't wait for the next one!

Brutal Bad Guy, Gorgeous Gals, and Wee William

As with so many love stories, this one starts with a definite "bad" guy - the evil Horace. Our heroine has been forced, by circumstances beyond her control, to marry this lower than low creep. He began right off by breaking promises and moved on to breaking her spirit.
At the same time, a young lady who escaped him and his dangerous influence has ended up married to a heroic Scot, but missing certain family heirlooms. Enter Wee William, so called to distinguish him from his father, although he did start out as an unusually small infant. He is now, as an adult, a giant of a man, even among the huge men he runs around with.
In the course of finding the heirlooms, Wee William finds our heroine and realizes she needs rescued. Well, really what he realizes is that he can't leave her.
Nora has been nearly destroyed by her husband. She lives now just for her next attempt to escape, and rescuing her younger siblings. Wee William offers her escape, and apparently (at least to her), FREEDOM! In the form of killing her husband. (Not realizing just how much a creep the man is, the don't outright kill him. The result of the , of course, he lives.)
The book moves through rescues and resting on to weddings, and celebrations, to the re-appearance of the villain. It turns into a kind of long story when other stories get tangled in with it, so in the end, you get an extra half story or so. There are places that may, if you are like me, cause a few tears to fall. Other places may make you laugh, and quite a few places will make you smile.
Wee William's Woman is a clean book. Although sex is discussed, the discussions are very carefully worded so that very few people should find themselves distressed by the conversations. In fact, the threats of some of the rather angry young women against certain males may be more disfigured.!

I was really looking forward to learning more about Wee William after meeting him in 'Findley's Lass'. He was delightful, and Nora was so oblivious at times that I wanted to push her into a cold creek, and wake her up. She was so afraid of men, and marriage after a disastrous and cruel union with Horace Crawford. At one point when he little sister Elise declares that all the men in Wee William's band are angels, I am with her.

In this story we get to witness the better side of the Highlander -- they are kind, noble, and very intelligent. So seldom is their harder side shown that it is nearly like a fairy-tale but I enjoyed getting away from the grittiness of the times, the harshness of the men, the weaknesses of the women. In this story we get to see a timeless romance between an awkward man, and a gun-shy woman. Throw in a few delightful kids (and if you come away hating Elise after this story, then I shall ask Daniel to set you to rights!).

This is a fun story, there are some harrowing moments, but there was overall a comfort to the story that means it is one to read again someday.

Wow! Just, WOW!!
I think this might be my favorite of the three Clan MacDougall books solely because of Wee William. You start to get a sense of who he is in the previous books but since this is his book you really get to see his heart. He is known for his long hair and beard because, unbeknownst to anyone else, he had his heart broken long ago and has sworn ever since that he would shave his beard for no woman. That, of course, was before he met Nora. The only thing, I wish William had made that confession to someone. I wish he had told that story to Nora or one of his men (Rowan, Duncan, or Black Richard); it would have been an opportunity to show his vulnerability a second time.
One part I particularly loved was when Aishlinn came to talk with William about regrets. She is so good at talking someone around to get what she wants or to achieve a particular objective. When she finished her little speech I stood up and clapped - well done once again Aishlinn! She's so freakin smart!

Now to finish the series with the novella McKenna's Honor!

I love Wee William!
I first read about this book from a review by my friend Kimberly Rocha. It sounded so good and I love a good Scottish historical romance. This being the third book in the series I had to look up the first one. I just have to say this is a fabulous series and I highly recommend it to everyone and that you read them in order.
Wee William is the biggest and hairiest of Clan MacDougall. He's honorable, trustworthy and fiercely protective of his clan. Wee William and several other warriors are sent on an earned for Angus McKenna. What they find is Nora, beaten and tried to her whore-son of a husband. Wee William and Nora right now are my favorite characters. I did not want this book to end.
I can't say enough about this book. If I put in word everything I want to say I'd give to much away and I don't want to spoil it for anyone. So start reading this series so you can read about Wee William and Nora. You will not regret it.

2.5 stars.

It started the usual Tisdale's style; cute, fun dialog, interesting (though not surprising) characters...
Around the last 30% it confused and tired me: too many stories combined and too much unnecessary action.

description

I'm a bit turn about this review. I do like Tisdale's style, I like her honest dialog, her characters are easy to like and there are some really funny sentences. On the other hand, there are too many thoughts descriptions and fighting scenes I did not care about. Also some of the scenes in this book felt like "copy paste" from her previous books in this series.

I can't give up just yet.

Going to read the next one!

Wee William is anything but wee. A huge Highlander whose ferocious look is enough to scare most men and also women. So William has decided to grow a beard so no woman will be attracted to him because he has been hurt once and will not stand being hurt again. But the minute he lays eyes on Nora's battered body he loses his hear to her and vows to kill her evil husband who is responsible. Leaving this deed to his companions, he takes Nora and rescues her siblings from a nearby castle and takes them north to his clan where she is given love and friendship. But will she return William's love and shave his beard. This is for the reader to find out. another great book by Suzan Tisdale who is fast becoming one of my favorite authors.

OMG, did someone order cheese with a side of cheese? I'm screaming to the rafter for all who will listen- this book is sooooooo Cheeeeeesssssyyyyyyy!!!! I can't even.

Quote from the wedding night:
“Your sword, William. It is poking me in the leg. Could you remove it?”....
“Lass, that no’ be me sword.”....
Her faced burned with embarrassment... “It’s a tree root!”

And then there's the lovely fact that the heroine thinks for hero is an idiot - even after they are married. How sexy is that? Here she goes:
Aye, he may be a little dumb and more than just slightly tetched. But he’s mine and he loves me

Oh, and about a third of this book is about some other bitches who I really have no interest in. I guess the author needed a way to fill space.

Sad. This could've been so much better.

I love Wee William. He loves his woman and he is loyal to his clan. Nora is a strong woman and is able to over come her abusive marriage. I was glad to see her exhusband get what he deserved. This book had me laughing one minute and crying the next. Great humor! I have enjoyed the MacDougal clan series so far. These books have been clean without the vulgar language and sex. I also love seeing the characters from the first 2 books again. My only disappointment was that the author had 2 other love stories in this book that I thought would have made good future books. I look forward to reading the 4th book McKenna's Honor next.

Very well-rounded and entertaining. Lots of action. Great characters-both main and secondary. Funny in parts. Nice romance--loved the H and h together. Not all of the plot revolves around main characters. Some of suspense has to do with secondary characters from previous, and set up for upcoming books. I'm guessing it lays the groundwork for new books, but it seemed a little out of context to the main plot. I liked the writing style. It had a good flow, however sometimes settings jump from one character/place to another without any division which got a little confusing. Besides that, I really enjoyed reading this.

Really happy to get to read Wee William and Nora's story. Susan writes about some amazingly strong women! Again a story with meat to it rather than focusing on bedroom dynamics. At the stage we see them both settled, you are wondering where the nasty antagonist is hiding, he does indeed present his ugliness in full force, but you get side tracked with the making of a potential antagonist. Nice little side story there, mayhap a potential novella, hint hint. I am looking forward to reading more! Thank you! (Read from Giants Among Men Medieval Warriors)

So happy that William found himself a woman, the lies however, my goodness! Sometimes we have to give men some slack, they are a weird bunch that do do things a woman would definitely think twice about before doing, but they do do it out of love..lol... The annulment had me rolling.

The Bree storyline was quite quick wasn't it.

Horace however was someone that seriously had to die, just wished it was a more horrible death. But what of his brothers? Are they going to keep the one locked in the dungeon forever?! And the other brother that was sleeping while Horace was getting his ass killed, where did he flee to.

I loved everything about this book. The style is amazing, very unique. The story line is easy to follow and built to a grand finale, and the few twists made it even more interesting. All the characters are well built, and real. The main characters, Nora and Wee William are really made for each other, strong and very likeable. Even though this is the 3rd book in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone. I will definitely get the first two books, I am hooked. I was reading well into the night, who needs sleep anyway :D Thank you for a great read Ms. Tisdale!!!

Absolutely loved it!

This story had me captivated from the very first page. Wee William was a wonderful hero and I absolutely adored him. This book was filled with romance, memorable characters and had me chuckling over Wee Williams antics and his denial of his love for Nora. Nora was a brave heroine who so deserved the love of a good man like Wee William. You could feel the chemistry between them burning up the pages. This is one book I am going to remember for a long time to come. Definitely will go on my keepers shelf.

Huge man--huge heart

This journey has more twists and turns that will keep you turning the pages as fast as you can read. Wee William is a huge warrior with a heart to match. Finding an English woman at the mercy of her husband who keeps her tied by a rope and beats her black and blue, Wee William does the only thing he can do-- he rescues her and takes her to Scotland What happens after that is the stuff of love and nightmares. One of the best books Suzan Tisdale has written and I loved every word!!

I was waiting for William's story and this didn't disappoint. Another awesome historical romance in this series. If you enjoy your highlanders huge, with hearts to match, you will love Wee William. He's been a large (pun intended) part of the previous two books, and he really gets a good story here. There are a few side stories that take away from William and Nora, but they further the story line for future books.

This was a really good read. I love how her books begin, they grab your attention and your heart strings. I loved the story. My only complaint is that there were two other stories introduced that veered completely from Wee Williams and there was huge space of the book where we don't see our main characters. I am all for secondary stories because its like two books for the price of one, but it was intergrated throught the rest of the book. I found it alittle odd but still a good book to read.

I love when an author makes you fall in love with the characters that they become like family to you. Wee William, the big giant with a heart of gold, rescues Nora from a vile and vindictive man. Such humor is involved in this story. The way William denies his love and threatens those around him. The way he "acquired" the needed annulment was too funny. His past and devotion to his clan and his new family makes you easily fall in love with him as Nora did! Highly, highly recommend.
