I really like the exaggerated funny expressions they do in this manga. Really enjoying the characters, especially Gash and Kiyomaro, and the manga has already made me tear up a few times so far.

Kiyo may be warming up to the idea of having Zatch around - even if explaining why he always has a mysterious boy in his care is getting annoying - but the battles are only growing more tense, and even his friends are beginning to get sucked into the mayhem! Raiku gives another exciting entry in this wonderful series. Sometimes the true mamodo is hiding in plain sight...

I liked we get to see more diverse Mamodo and see what lengths they will go to become the Mamodo king even if it means manipulating their book masters. We also get introduced to the comic relief character of this series Folgore and Kanchome. And honestly they are still annoying as while they can be funny but they are still one of my least favorite characters.

Real rating: Infinity stars. It is THAT good. Expect spoilers as this is my fandom and references to random ZB stuff.
I love Zatch's blankets and pjs-he's such a cute little kid. Kiyo freaking out over how Jikerdor won't work, funny. Fein is really ugly. Notice the sign he was Jikerdored to: "K.O. Security: We Knock out the Bad Guys." What kind of company is that? Are they hitmen or yakuza advertising on a billboard?-that's messed up. Kiyo torturing Vulcan! The school camping trip would be fun except for eating Kiyo's sick curry. What's in it? Vulcan is and so is random crap. Half of it probably isn't food. Suffice it to say I could not eat it-there's no way it's vegetarian. I didn't realize before that the reason Brago got his arm chopped off is because he was protecting Sherry. But they are still in no way, shape, or form, a couple. That is the worst ship ever besides the worst ship of all time-Kiyo and Zatch. The best? Obviously my OTP Wonrei and Li-En, coming in book 8! :) I can't believe Sherry sucked it up and apologized to Brago and he was a jerk. Actually, him being a jerk doesn't surprise me. *sumimasen, Brago-dono, but I was raised to tell the truth* I like how Kiyo and Zatch thought Shin was the mamodo when it's really Eshros. "I am elite, even among mamodo!" Yu do realize that's a big fat lie. I really like Shin: he is very nice and kind and caring and helps obasans and animals :) ! I feel his pain wanting to destroy things that hurt him. A school that allows bullying, like the one I attend, shouldn't exist. Yay Zatch for biting Kiyo on the butt! Notice how Zatch and Kiyo do a really sucky job of spying. Eshros and Shin should be able to spot them easily like they are 3 feet behind and hiding badly. Zatch even follows them home, come on, they should have seen him peeping outside Shin's window. I'm glad the mamodo battle enabled Shin to become the strong person he's always desired to be. I don't understand how neither Suzy nor Zatch noticed that Kiyo was nailed to the ceiling. It's not like the ceiling's super high, and you would notice if something huge was on the ceiling, especially since Kiyo was groaning and crying. When Suzy passed out, she was laid on the bed with her legs sticking off the side. Later, it shows her straight on the bed-error in drawing I caught! The nose...and that's just not noticeable apparently? And Kiyo, it's rude to yell at Suzy when that's the first time she was called pretty. Kanchome is a total brat and Folgore's messed up but his Japanese songs are great. Just saying-I listened to Muteki Folgore and Chichi wo Moge this morning. It would be pretty annoying to have people singing in your room, though, especially since you're trying to fight. Folgore shouldn't be allowed to be attractive. Just...no. "Come out my little soot sprite...here I am!" I did NOT need to see that. Not saying it wasn't amusing. Little Kanchome would actually be quite annoying. "Hard to believe there's a spell that can actually make us weaker!" True, but in the end, Kanchome becomes stronger than Zatch due to Dufort's help. "Or maybe I should pinch Zatch's weenie with this clothespin!" "I'll see you, kid! / Not if I can help it!"

I am thoroughly enjoying this early 2000s manga. This hearkens back to what I would call the Pokemon days of anime/manga though I've only ever watched that show when it originally aired with my now grown-up son LOL. This is far more in depth than Pokemon though. Yiko receives the third spell from the Red book and he and Zatch meet up and do battle with two more mamodos in this volume. Both these mamodos and/or their masters are different than the previous ones met so far. We have people with heart here and Zatch and Yiko do not want to hurt good-hearted ones who have been pulled into this battle to the death for the king of Zatch's world. We learn a little more background on the king situation and on Zatch's personal story. I'm wondering if we'll ever find out why he is the only mamodo with memory loss. Lots of fun with great battles and we're already seeing the return of previous characters. Yiko actually goes back to school and has some adventures in class with Suzy as well. Onwards to volume 4!

Returning to the world of Zatch Bell and Kiyo, the manga is becoming formulaic with hints of a deeper story slowly being dropped but not expanded upon. I am quickly losing interest. Zatch will no doubt face many more Momodo's trying to win the throne, and he will no doubt overcome the majority, but can we fast forward that and make the manga a bit more succinct? The series is quickly losing it's magic, and it no longer thrills me the way the first book did. Perhaps the TV media is better suited to the story of Zatch. For those who love the goodie vs baddie scenario played over and over with little change from the first time, then Zatch Bell is perfect for them, but for me I am getting bored of all the action and want a deeper story line to develop quicker than it is. So much potential, yet poorly executed in manga form.
