Kiyomaro Takaminé is a brilliant junior high student whose inflated ego (and tendency to blow the grading curve) has made him a major target for teasing at school. So his father sends him a bizarre birthday present--a strange little boy named Gash--to help him make friends and reform his bad attitude. Gash brings with him a mysterious red volume of spells, and Kiyomaro discovers that Gash has magic powers that are unleashed by reading from the book! But there are more surprises to come, and Kiyomaro's destiny is about to change forever!
Another emotional entry into this series. The mamodo's have been whittled down now considerably, number is not mentioned but we must be at least at half by now. So the most vicious are not popping up all the time now. Mamodo's have their own stories, effecting their behaviour, not everyone is out to be the next king; we also have some human characters showing their sensitive sides as well. Everyone is concerned about Suzy for acting strange but we find out she's just being her usual caring self. Zatch Bell on his way to finally take down the neighbourhood playground tyrant ends up in quite the opposite position and a nasty mamodo learns what it means to be loved. The good side of people comes out in this volume and is one of the things that keeps me reading. The immense mix of emotions combined with the humour and battles. PS, there's still plenty of awesome battles in this volume. This one ends on a bittersweet note with no sense as to where the story will pick up next volume. Looking forward to continuing!
Now having to deal with Zatch and the stowaway mamodo from their trip to England, Kiyo and his friends are finding that, as the number of mamodo goes down, the most fearsome their opponents become...Raiku gives readers action-packed tension and plenty of wit with this enjoyable entry. Are the heroes ever going to get a break?!
Nice to meet mamodo's who have other goals besides becoming king with characters Danny and Ropes and showing that their are book masters who are not obsessed with using the spells for greed.
Real rating: Infinity stars! It’s THAT good. Expect spoilers since this is my fandom. This book gives me feels on every range of the feel spectrum. I don't want to know how Suzuki's tan happened... Kiyo stalked Suzy home! Plus, seriously, even if Suzy was in a gang she wouldn't look THAT weird. Kanta's bringing his parents back together story is heartwarming. I like Apollo but now I'm actually I'm starting to get mad at him because I feel like he's wasting his life when he has so much potential as having a partly Answer Talker ability. Wow, Ponygon and Zatch, nice. You broke down the wall, amazing...JK. And quit talking to yourself, Kiyo. It's weird. Every anime set in the current era has someone run in front of a car! It's cool that he can play any instrument...I used to be able to play 3 but now just 1, trumpet! :) “What color is your book? My book is light blue.” Wow. Apollo is good-looking. I wonder how laundry starch tastes? Apollo dodges spells like Sherry. Apollo is NOT the toughest enemy Kiyo's ever fought....don't forget about Brago-dono! Kiyo, do you really have to scream to get back in the game? Kiyo, grab the book! You can grab it faster than Rops' spell comes into effect. Do normal people (oops...I'm insinuating that Kiyo's not normal. Well, he IS a genius) spellbooks' power increase during the battle? Naomi is SO annoying. Zatch just needs to give up on her. Because although he becomes king by defeating Brago, he would still probably lose to Naomi, let's just say it like it is. Danny and Cherish-Rainbow Heal-are such a kawaii ship. Zatch can't spot a mamodo from a human...that's sad. It's not that hard since most aren't human-shaped.
