Jess is caught off guard when a sexy stranger buys her a cup of coffee and asks her to sit with him. He's mysterious, nice, and even though he says the right things at the right time, Jess can sense that there's something hidden about him. * As Johnnie sits across from the beautiful woman, he can't believe she doesn't recognize him. Everyone does. It comes with the territory when you're the lead singer of one of the hottest bands in the world, Chasing Cross. With one more show to go before taking a small break in touring, it feels like luck is on Johnnie's side. That is, if he can find a way to tell Jess who he is, without scaring her off. * After her best friend begs her to come to a concert, Jess finds herself standing in the middle of a crowd. The lights are off, music begins, and the crowd erupts in cheers. She doesn't know much about the band, but that's all about to change. When the lights come on, Jess can't believe her eyes. The lead singer of the band is the man from the café. * Plucked from the crowd during the show, Jess makes her way backstage. The encore may have ended on stage, but the real show is just about to begin. Johnnie's passion quickly turns to romance but the more time he and Jess spend together, the more things get complicated. Johnnie has a big decision to make about himself and the band, testing his loyalty and love for the music, and when Jess's dreams start to come true, she starts to realize that true love exists, but it's not always an easy path to take.
My rockstar radar is working ;D Please be good!! After Reading... I liked it, but I hate these short stories! The characters "fall in love" too fast. I love it when everything goes slow. And I say this for many books, but it would've been even better if it was longer. It actually did remind me of Sinners with a lot of passionate talk about music and concerts that many rock-star books lack. So a BIG plus for that. More review later today..
Boy am I ever happy I finished this book. To my shock I actually did finish it and didn't ditch it. It has to be one of the worst books I have read in a while. I am officially in a book funk.
August 2020: Sadly these books (all 20 Brothers Of Rock books) are not available any more. At least not on Amazon. The author's all social media accounts are gone, website is gone, and I don't think the author is to be found on Goodreads either, at least the account seems dead. I, however, believe he/she is writing under a new pen name. What irks me the most, is that the author has removed the books from Amazon. You might still be able to find a few of them, just not all of them. I bought them all as they were coming out, so I do have the series. Even if this author didn't want to write under the Karolyn James pen any more, they should have left the books up for sale. This is one of those things that always makes me wary reading self published books. Some of them just up and disappear.
Original review in 2013: This book is the best kind of surprise you can get. Yes, there are rockers, and music, and crazy fans and the general drama that follows the music industry - both in the real world and the fantasy world.
I have to admit, I was kind of expecting a dud. I've read too many books about rockers that simply don't do anyone any justice. All Access by Karolyn James changes all that. I know this world, I've lived in this world (music industry), and Ms Karolyn doesn't just do it justice, she makes me believe she knows a few rockers of her own...
What I found the most off-putting about the book, is that the blurb is trying to ride the 5000 shades of crap wave. It was nearly enough to put me off this book. I was in doubt if I should buy it from Amazon or not. Anything that links itself to that piece of literary horror is more than enough to have me running in the other direction - but something pulled me in.
Let me make it clear for you: 50 Shades of Grey can't even start to compare to All Access. 50 is a mess, it's horrible, it makes me sad that people actually read and love that mess. It's an abomination. All Access is a literary wonder. Jess, the leading lady, is strong, confident, with a good head on her shoulders. She gets thrown into a new world, and she thrives. No navel-gazing, just a healthy woman with healthy doubts and beliefs. Johnnie, the leading man, is not just good looking. Anyone can write a good looking character. Karolyn James makes Johnnie real by giving him real feelings. He has real doubts, real problems, real worries. He's what I like to call a lovable worry-wort. EL James doesn't write characters like this. Her characters are superficial, juvenile, with no real feelings.
Enough about that horrid excuse for a book. About All Access; what made me fall so in love with this book, is the emotional aspect of the characters. It's been a long time since I was this much in a character's head. It's been a long time since I connected with fictional people this much. The things surrounding these characters became secondary to the characters themselves. All Access is all about showing, about dragging the readers along for the ride.
It was short but very sweet for a rock star that is maturing after 10 years touring with the band. Our gal is a published and successful author of one book. It happens fast for both of them which was a stretch of plausibility but not out of the realm of possibility. That is book magic! I loved how they worked together in their relationship and with the band. I loved the mountain retreat too. Hot! second read 5/11/18
This was a pretty good book about a Rock band the first book in this series is about Johnny the lead singer of Chasing Cross. I was really surprised by this book Jess is a writer looking for inspiration to write her next novel when a hot guy buys her a coffee in a café and asked that she sit with him she has no idea who he is and Johnny is a little surprised at that. Johnny is also looking for something of his own he as some questions that he needs to answer his manager is on his back to go solo as they sit and talk he realizes that he likes her she tells him about being a writer and he tells her being a musician what he doesn't tell her is who he is. Jess's friend gets her to go to a concert and guess who is the lead singer of the band. Things start off hot and heavy between these two I loved the chemistry between the character's. Johnny plays a song for her and she loves it he records her sing it in the shower without her knowing it and realizes she's what's missing form it. This was a really sweet story and a good beginning to a new series for me this book was well written and I can't wait to read the rest of this series.
The first book in Karolyn James' series, Brothers of Rock. Jess is a romance writer that takes a break from writing to go for coffee and a handsome stranger picks up her tab and invites her to sit with him. But Jess doesn't know that he is Johnnie, the lead singer for the Band, Chasing Cross. Later she discovers his identity when she attends their concert with her friend, Marie.
This was a freebie from Amazon. I'm not a big fan of romances that involve the entertainment business but I thought I'd check it out anyway. It really wasn't bad. It moved very quickly, probably since it was a novella. But I prefer my stories to have a bit more development. I find it hard to connect to the characters when I don't get to know them.
The positives to this book is there's no cliffhanger and no cheating and you get your HEA however I think the plot could of used some more meat and the character development and relationship could have been stronger. I felt the story was rushed but I think the series has potential. I will continue to read the rest of the series because I'm hopeful the authors work will get more amazing as she gets more experience and feedback.
I was a bit skeptical with reading this going by the reviews on here, bit slow at the beginning and wasn't sure if I would actually keep going with it, but over half way I actually started enjoying the story line, will definitely give book 2 a shot..
I have to say I enjoyed this book immensely. I loved how Johnny and Jess met. How they fell in love. It just seemed so real. Like they were soul mates and met at the exact moment they were supposed to meet.
Great story! There were some editing issues but they were easily ignored. Loved the characters and the storyline. I was able to connect with the characters and by the end I was rooting for them all. Can't wait to read the rest.
Fasted case of insta-love I've ever seen and way too short to have any substance to the story. The writing was too simplistic and cheesy for me and these rocker "bad boys" were way too Pollyanna.

Book one in the Chasing Cross series. Told in dual POV, can be read and enjoyed as stand-alone. Each book about a different band member finding their HEA. Lead singer Johnnie after years of touring is ready for a break. Jess is not a groupie and does not even recognize Johnnie when they meet in a coffee shop. The book is short so the story is insta-love. I liked that they were both at a professional crossroad and the way they each stood up for what they wanted. I enjoyed the story and will be continuing the series!
Ok this was an ok book where a rock star falls for a novel writer. I enjoy a little spice in a romance but this one was much more than that. I felt like should be sitting next to the bed with score cards..."ooh a nipple pinch 10.3. It's a fast read and if you like the fantasy, go for it. Too predictable for me.
This book started off on a high note, but slowly dwindled down to blah. It was an okay read. Towards the end there were a lot of typos, and things were more like a too good to be true kind of dream.
You people should just read this book yourselves and write your own review on this novel yourself and I really enjoyed reading this book very much so. Shelley MA
