Squirrel shifter Elly has been captured by Freedom, beaten, and then handed off to be raped. Only her new hotter-than-hell jailor, Deuce Pierce, isn’t keen on forcing her and is all about saving her curvy, furry ass and getting her to safety. After she’s freed, she can’t forget about the lion who saved her life, and she hunts for him, determined to find the man who haunts her.
The council has tried to keep Deuce separated from Elly, convinced he’s abused her in some way, as if he would hurt his mate. He finally beats (literally) her location out of one of their soldiers, only to find she lives in the hometown he’d vowed to leave behind. His lush squirrel may be happy to see him, but the townspeople and their families take up where the council left off. Good thing he and Elly have wicked teeth, sharp claws, a gun or two, and more love than any two people ought to share. Because no one is going to separate them, come hell, high water, or shot-out knees.
~2.5 stars~ This is one of my all-time favorite series. That being said, this book was a bit disappointing for me. The sample had me sold, so I was eager to devour this book. It started strong but faded really fast. While I enjoyed the characters, I just didn’t feel much of a connection to the hero and heroine. It had too much of an insta-love thing going on. I wanted their relationship to have more development and depth. It just felt generic. Also, other books in this series I found to be hilarious.........that just didn’t happen here. I did LOL one or two times, but it was mainly due to interactions between previous characters. Also, I think the $4.99 price tag was too much. It was barely over 100 pages long. Overall, this was just an ok read for me. Probably my least favorite of the series so far. I will still check out the others though.
This is the fifth book in the "Ridgeville Series". Deuce Pierce is a member of the Ridgeville pride when he goes undercover in the Freedom movement trying to stop it's crazy leader a Polar Bear shifter who believes in kidnapping and raping woman. Squirrel shifter Elly Martin has been captured by Freedom, beaten, and then handed off to be raped by Deuce who won her in a poker game. I really like Elly she is fierce due to her injuries she can't tell that he is her mate although he can and all he wants to do is get her out. "Elly didn't need any badass training." The council has tried to keep Deuce separated from Elly, convinced he's abused her in some way. After Deuce beats his trainer and with Maddy's help they learn the truth and he finds is mate in the town that he was born in where everyone thinks he is a monster. This was a really good book it was well written and funny like the other's. In my reviews of the other books I always forget to mention how funny the books were, not this time. Deuce who took the blame for his sister's injury years ago is not welcome in the town by his father who runs his family with an iron fist. I really liked that Elly didn't let her family or the towns people's opinion of her mate stop her. This series has some funny pairings Elly is a squirrel shifter mated to a lion and then there is the bunny and lion and a fox and a lion. This series is well written like all of Ms. Kyle's books I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series.
The majority of the women in these books gain their strength without Maya; yet she is credited with their new found freedom. You have quiet women, who start acting crazy and talking about vagina blocking once they meet Maya. Not necessary. A little Maya goes a long way.
I liked Elly. She was in a bad situation, kept her head, and trusted just enough to get free. I also liked that she wasn't a damsel in distress the entire book.
Ridgeville just grabs me and draws me in. All the books read pretty quickly, so I was able to binge through them pretty quickly.
In this one, Elly the squirrel has been taken by the bad guys. Deuce the lion has been undercover with the bad guys and wins Elly in a poker game. Alistair expects Deuce to force Elly, but Deuce recognizes that she's his mate and he isn't about to do anything to hurt her. However, the things that he has to do to make Alistair think that he hurt Elly put Deuce at risk from his own friends, one of whom hits Deuce and hides Elly away from him.
There are a lot of things I liked in the book. Elly is fierce af. She's not going to let anyone take her man or hurt him. But, Deuce's friends, especially stone, kind of upset me. They've known him for years and they would know the kind of man he was, but Stone still chose to believe that he did what Stone accused him of.
Another great read in this series. I'm working through the box set. Seems to be a gap between the last book and this one as Deuce is now undercover for the council with the freedom group. Things take a turn when he wins a woman in a card game between himself and the nasty leader, only to realise she's his mate. This is twisted and suspenseful with a good plot and held my attention. I felt for both characters that nobody listened to either of them, poor Deuce had the added problem of a past that hadn't been questioned by those that knew him or backed up and supported by his brothers who were there and just watched. Made me as angry as the Squirrel. There were a few parts that made me chuckle though. Loved it. Started and finished 8/12/21
As you can tell from my review of the first book in this series I really enjoyed reading them. While each book brings in new characters, and new issues, the original storyline and the first books couple the Ridgeville Prime Alex and Prima Maya are peppered throughout each individual story. There is also lots of little gems of wisdom Prima Maya at the beginnings of each chapter. All in all this series was a joy to read, and I imagine I'll read them again and again.
A squirrel and a lion. Just as crazy as a rabbit and a lion, so who cares? True love conquers all and this couple will overcome a lot to be together. Great story with a truly LOL moment. The moms are funny!
Another fantastic read, once I started reading i couldn't put it down, brilliant storyline with a great couple who you'll be cheering for all the way, plenty of action
Elly is one bada$$ squirrel shifter. She does not quit so when she meets Deuce, uber alpha lion, she knows they have something special. This book is action packed and quite hilarious too.
The fun continues with book five in the Ridgeville series. Deuce is no longer a body guard for Ridgeville’s Prima. He’s now working undercover for the shifter council to bring down Alistair, leader of the group Freedom who uses violence to push beliefs that shifters should live free of rules and a governing body. He’s had to fight to get close to Alistair but when Alistair’s latest kidnapping victim turns out to be his mate, Deuce’s investigation is over and the ass kicking begins.
Deuce and Elly, a cute, curvy squirrel shifter with sharp little teeth, are not brought together under the best circumstances and there’s a misunderstanding that leads to people hiding Elly’s whereabouts from Deuce for her own good. Big mistake. After some digging and a few beat downs, Deuce finds Elly in their home town and she’s quick to come to his defense when the town turns against him. Elly is awesome. Deuce is the big, bad lion but it’s Elly who really handles things with attitude and a few well placed gun shots. Deuce is no slouch when it comes to protecting his mate but there’s something about a tiny squirrel shifter going toe to toe with lion and bear shifters that gets my imagination going and I start cracking up laughing. There’s not a lot of complexity to the characters yet they sure are fun.
The relationships in this series are almost all the same. They happen quickly, have genuine emotion, the sex is often and smokin’, and soon there will be the pitter patter of baby shifter feet. A twist here and there would be appreciated at this point. Its nice knowing there won’t be much relationship turmoil, that can really get on my nerves, but a curve ball would keep things fresh and interesting.
The struggle to finally corner and bring down Alistair comes to a head in this book but things are not left wrapped up in a pretty bow. This series is definitely character/romance centered but its nice there’s actual story and a bad guy to defeat. Fans of the series will enjoy this one. - Stephanie
Such a fun and well written series. So very many individuals, each with a generally strong personality, yet Celia manages to mold them all into a family, of sorts. Maya provides a unique backbone to the stories, and she's a perfect start to it all. But of course, what else would you expect from the Queen of Booblandia?
This book was another fun read. And we finally get to hear why Deuce is always drinking light beer!
There is a little time that passes between the previous book and the start of this one, leaving Deuce, one of Maya's guards, undercover in the Freedom organization. Fate, again, throws his mate at him at the most inopportune time. Elly has been kidnapped and Deuce has to win her in a poker game or she'll be handed off to the pleasure of some other Freedom members for the night. Deuce wins, of course, and then they are thrown into a complicated and chaotic mess.
For some reason, the person in charge of Deuce's undercover assignment refuses to believe Deuce or Elly when they say that he didn't rape her. This drags on for a while. I found it kind of annoying, but did enjoy the fight scenes that were a result. This book was filled to the brim with Deuce's backstory, and we even got some major plot happening. With these crazy developments, I'm not sure where the rest of the series will get its big bad.
Again, I'll keep reading these until there are no more to be read! Keep 'em comin'!
Squirrel shifter Elly was captured by Freedom, beaten and then handed off to be raped. Deuce Pierce, a lion. has infiltrated Freedom undercover, and during a card game he won Elly. The leader aspects Deuce to rape her. But Deuce isn't ever going to harm Elly because she is his mate. He'll do whatever is necessary to protect her. After they escape and rescued, the council separates them, thinking he hurt her. After weeks of the council keep Elly and Deuce separated, he literally beats her location out of one the soldiers. And she is in the one town, he vowed to never return to. But now that he knows she is there. There is one damn that is going to stand in his way to claim his squirrel. Of course when he arrives the towns people and their families are livid that he has returned and not only that but came for Elly. Their families try to get rid of Deuce. But Elly is one feisty squirrel and she goes after her mate guns blazing.
Deuces Wild was wickedly entertaining. I love every minute reading it.
This is the fifth book in one of my favorite shifter series. I affectionately call it shifter crack because it is so stinkin' addictive. This book did not disappoint me. Elly is such an amazing heroine. She may be a squirrel (yes, a squirrel shifter), but she does not let anyone run her over and she sure does not let anything get in her way. I loved her spunk and her really warm heart. Deuce is the bad boy who really isn't. Thrown together in the worst circumstances did not stop them from searching out their HEA.
This book is part of a series and you will be missing background info if you have not read the others, but this is a complete story in and of itself so no worries if you want to jump in with this one. If you are a fan you will be super excite to know that the book is filled with Mayaisms. Love her!!! If you love hot shifters, adventure, humor, and spunky squirrels, you will love this book. I can not wait to see what Celia comes up with next.
Loved this book and we got to find out why Deuce always has light beer and the secret behind it! Poor Deuce, he's such a good man, taking the blame for an accident so his sister wasn't killed by their father over it, not to mention that idiot Stone not believing him or Elly and trying to keep them apart, and don't even get me started on his family, Elly's family and his entire hometown (personally at the end I think they should have let Maya go badass all over Deuce's father and brothers!) I love that Elly could tell that there had to be more to the story Rosie told her, that Deuce was better then what they tried to make her believe. She trusted in him and knew he was a good man, she had faith in him and it was totally justified when the truth came to light and Deuce was exonerated of all he'd been blamed for and accused off! Love this series and can't wait for the next book which I will be starting now!
Squirrel shifter Elly was captured by the Freedom group beaten and handed over to be rapped. Her jailer Deuce doesn't want to force his self upon the Elly. Deuce won her in a poker game and he knows she's his mate. He would rather get her out of there and to safety as soon as possible.. He freed her but she can't stop thinking about the lion that haunts her every moment. Deuce wants to get back to his mate. The council members thinks he abused her in some way. He could never hurt his mate. He finally finds out she's in his home town after he beats it out of a man. He's not welcomed in Ridgeville they all hate him for something he took a blame for that he didn't do. The truth always finds it's way to the surface. Deuce will not leave his mate again and they will fight to stay together!!!
Deuce has never been my favorite character in the Ridgeville series. Just one of those things – I really can’t say why, other than he just grated on my nerves. But Deuce’s Wild changes all of that, and actually makes me somewhat ashamed of my bad attitude about his randy attitude. But hey, everyone else in Ridgeville apparently feels the same, because when Deuce gives it his all to save Elly, a curvy squirrel, from Alistair’s brutality, a misunderstanding assures that Elly is ripped away from Deuce, and even her pleadings and assurances will not convince Alex or the other men in the pride that he is innocent. The best part of the story, though? Elly KICKS ASS – and changes everything with a few well-placed gunshots. You go little squirrely girl!!!
“Some shifters don’t understand that “no means no”. If that’s the case, teach them that a nine millimeter Glock means no.”
Another good read from this author. Loved Elly. Elly is a squirrel shifter, yep you read right, a squirrel, how fab and what a kick ass, take no prisoners lady with some serious bad moves. Kidnapped. Saved by an undercover shifter who happens to be her mate but she has a stinking cold so doesn’t realise this fact. This leads to a massive complication further in the book. Deuce we know for being picked on for his drinking of light beer. We get to learn why in this story. I understood the reasoning for keeping Ellie and Deuce apart but why would nobody listen. In this book a lot happens re Freedom and things are as crazy as normal in the pride, who get quite a few new interesting members. I am saying no more or it will be spoilt. This can be read as a standalone book but if you have not read any of the Ridgeville series, do yourself a favour and start at the beginning.
Getting more story this book. Great infiltration of Freedom. I had hoped we would see more happen with this group and an effort to bring them down. Love Elly and Deuce! The way they both refuse to forget the other and fight to get back together! Naughty council making things difficult.
The smexy is off the hook! Yeah they are totally hot for each other and have no qualms about making the mating happen after the time apart. Yummy Yummy!!
I love that Elly is such a bad@$$ chick!! Do not mess with her or her man! She has a few clear "You Go Girl" moments! Definitely sporting some GIRL POWER!
Another shifter I hope to see get a HEA, Stone. Sure he had a bad moment and took his beating like a man. Now he deserves a mate to snuggle!
Deuces Wild. I'm not real sure how I feel about this installment in the Ridgeville series. Up to this point, I've loved this series, but I'm just having a hard time with these lions and their mates. I understood Alex the Prime of the Pride choosing a human then turning her. The next pairing was stranger, a lion with a bunny. Then we had a fox, better, but this one was, for me, the strangest one yet. Deuce, a lion, and body guard for his Prima, mates with the woman he rescues from the militant group Freedom. She's a squirrel. Yeah. Not really buying that one. I have no problem with the mates in their human form, I'm just not sure what pairing is up next, the hedgehog bartender, or maybe we'll discover there are hamster and mouse shifters? I hope it gets better.
2 1/2 - 3 stars Again I love that a curvaceous women is the ideal in this series. These books were fairly short but even so, there's very little real/deep emotion between MC's. The darker issues of an abusive family, rape aligations, violence etc are only lightly gone over & overcome easily with very little emotional consequence, this can only be somewhat explained by the length of the story. Unfortunately the more you read of the series the more you realise that the characters are interchangeable along gender lines. But overall the series stories are fairly witty & sexy with light erotica & a touch of shape-shifter paranormal romance & should be enjoyed as such. I'm over all the Maya-isms.
DEUCES WILD (RIDGEVILLE: BOOK V) by Celia Kyle Published March 1, 2013 Review by: Reading In Pajamas/Donna Rating: 4 Stars
REVIEW:
This book carries on the story of the Ridgeville Pride. I love that the pride now includes squirrels. That alone shows you the humor added to these stories. The threat to our couple is not just from the Freedom group that has been dogging the shifters but from Deuces' family also. Which added another layer to the tension. There was action, drama, laughter and of course passionate shifter sex. I liked the book and look forward to more.
The book was good and I liked most of it and loved Deuce and Elly. As always Maya made the parts awesome and the other couples helped. This book didn't add up as well as the others in the series an was a let down cause the others were great but this one was lacking something. I know one of my biggest issues was the use of a nickname that was already used. You just can't do that in a series, babe, sweetheart and whatnot are different though but the special odds and ins no it just doesn't work and it turned me off of Deuce. It was an okay read but I hope the next is better.
This book was another fun read. And we finally get to hear why Deuce is always drinking light beer! Elly is kidnapped by the group Freedom and Duece wins her in a poker game. He then gets her out but through a misunderstanding they are kept apart. No one will tell either Elly or Duece where the other is. But Duece finally gets the information and goes to Elly. And the rest is history. What I like about this series is you read about all the previous shifters and their mates that you have already read about. Keep them coming, love this series.
Deduced wild is a nice addition to this series. I really enjoy all the former characters from previous stories making a appearance, really enjoy their interaction in the story. There are some great lol moments. However because the story isnt very long, I would of liked more development of the story and of the relationship between Elly and Deuce and a little less sex. Page count 124 Reading time 2 hours.
