Freedom to choose is an essential part of our Heavenly Father’s plan. Quoting from Dumbledore, Hank Smith reminds us that “it is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” Unfortunately, we don’t always make the best choices. “We are all going to be tempted and sometimes we might give in and fall,” says Brother Smith, “but we don’t have to.”
Drawing on stories from the scriptures, real-life examples, and his trademark sense of humor, Brother Smith shares five powerful “temptation killers” that can help youth deal with the “opposition in all things” that is part of our earthly existence. “I want to give you some ways to overcome temptations so you can become the missionary you were meant to be, so you can become the mom you were meant to be, so you can become the example you were meant to be if you can get by these things,” says Brother Smith.
Once again, Hank Smith delivers a timely message that will be a great blessing for youth and parents alike.
Hank Smith enjoys teaching in the Religious Education Department at BYU and is a favorite speaker for Especially for Youth, Best of Especially for Youth, and BYU Education Week.
Hank and his wife, Sara, were both born and raised in St. George, Utah. They are the parents of one daughter and four sons. Brother Smith enjoys running marathons and eating lots and lots of ice cream (which is why he runs marathons). More than anything else, he loves being at home spending all day with his wife and children.
This was a road trip audio book with my family. I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this book. Hank Smith has a wonderful way of saying important truths with laugh out loud humor and still the spirit is in every word. I cried and laughed!! It was lovely to talk and laugh with my teenagers about important gospel issues and real life concerns kids are facing in today's world. Highly recommend!!
Our family listened to this as we drove home from a ski trip. Let me see if I can remember the 5 temptation killers. A memorized scripture, Fresh Water (like the temple, church, etc), your Mom, your Dad, and .... I’m going to have to test my family, and see if they remember. Maybe friends, maybe something to do with Jesus and Gethsemane,... I guess we are going to have to listen to it again! That’s fine though cause it’s good😊
This was a very quick listen (after all, it's a recording of a fireside). Hank Smith is a great storyteller, very funny - both in the rehearsed jokes and the ad-hoc jokes, and he delivers a practical and powerful message. Although the audience is teens and young adults, there are plenty of nuggets of wisdom for adults as well.
This was fabulous! Never lose your talent! I highly recommend this for anyone who is: A)bored B)struggling with something C)anyone who needs a good laugh.
I have a peculiar taste in humor, but he managed to make me laugh. So go ahead and try it!
