Once upon a time, a little girl was born on a cold winter morning in the heart of Seoul, Korea. She was brought to America by her parents and raised in the Deep South where the words ma'am and y'all became an integrated part of her lexicon. She wrote her first novel at the age of eight and continued writing on and off during her teenage years. In college she studied biology and chemistry and finally combined the two by earning a master's degree in biochemistry. After that she moved to Yankee land where she lived for four years working in a laboratory at Cornell University. Homesickness and snow aversion forced her back South where she lives in the land which spawned Elvis Presley, Oprah Winfrey, John Grisham and B.B. King. After finding her Prince Charming, she gave birth to a wondrous gift named Caylin and they all lived happily ever after.

The second book to the Harvester of Light trilogy will be available for purchase no later than December 2012.

Jess and Mason start off by jumping through the tear to another Earth to retrieve Faison. This world is much different and dangerous as the two encounter doppelgangers with very different intentions. They manage to find Faison and also another archangel soul vessel before returning to their own Earth. At that point, the story shifts toward Jess and Mason furthering their relationship.

I must be in a mood because the last three books I've read in the last couple of days have been disappointing. I was so into this series after book 2, but something about this one has cooled my enthusiasm. There is only one more book, so of course, I will read it just to finish the series. But I think the author lost me by putting so much emphasis on Jess finally having sex with Mason. I can't believe those words came out of my head. I kept wanting them to stop fooling around with each other and just get to work. Usually, a little romantic plotline mixed in with the regular plot is just what I like and goodness knows we've been waiting for three book for this to happen, but IDK, it seemed a little unbalanced in this book, as if 3/4 of the book was about her first time with Mason and the only other things that happened in the book were that they got Faison back and Lucifer threw a temper tantrum.

Mostly 2.5 Stars but I'm feeling a little generous. Book 3 here picks up right on the cliffhanger book 2 left us with Jess and Mason off to rescue Faisen through the tear. I might as well just be honest. I'm ready for this story to be over already lol. It really seems to be dragging out and I still honestly don't know what our end game goal is. Maybe its more than one? Stop the tears, rescue Lucifer...I don't honestly know but I'm ready for it to get here already. I will say that although this book is available to read and listen via KU I picked up the Audible copy since I was going mostly audio and have been for the series. Speeding this bad boy up to 2.0 probably saved this series for me. Just FYI when you download a read and listen the Audio automatically pops up in your Audible app for download and listen. Love how Audible allows the increased speed because this narrator is one of the only ones I've ever listened to that I can speed up to 2.0x and it sounds almost like a normal read. Just throwing that info out there...

Jess and Mason wrap up in the tear finally convincing Faisen to come home and also finding one more for the Arch Angel Posse. God gives Jess a mission to get Lucifer to give up and ask for forgiveness and take back his crown. I'm not honestly sure if I'm just disallusioned with this story because the plot has turned into this Jess has to solve everyones personal problems story, or if its because this story is just so different from the creationism story, or if its just dragging out so far that I'm just loosing my interest all together but I found myself eye rolling more than normal. Good news though.. Ships be sailing in book 3!

All in all its not a bad read I'm just loosing the tiny amount of patience that I have with it and I'm ready to get to some end game... whatever that may be.

I’m seriously loving the books in this series more and more! With only one to go, I’m sad at the prospect of not being able to read these books again for the first time. The third book in the watcher series was absolutely brilliant, with plenty of character and plot development along the way.

I’ve really loved seeing Jess and Mason grow closer and closer in their relationship and Im so happy with the direction of this book and how it’s going. I only go into the next one with slight tentative trepidation as I’m hoping the 4th is just as good as this one and lives up to expectation.

Angels, vessels and magical artefacts with a fantastic story? Really can’t go wrong with this book.

Sigh... I don’t know man. This series had such a promising start to it. But since book two, it took a never-ending nosedive that just won’t stop. So Jess and Mason finally take things further in their relationship but I’ve literally lost all enthusiasm for it because of all the cringe-worthiness of it all. Yes I am all for all the sweet and gooey scenes and conversations but for-freakin’-real you guys... I just about rolled my eyes so much at some (or most) of their “romantic” conversations and scenes that there were times I was certain my eyes would get stuck like that. Not to mention, I’ve also had the wtf look on my face about 80% of the time throughout the whole book. I just can’t. I’m just glad my attention wasn’t solely on this (since I was only listening to the audiobook while doing some work) because honestly, it would’ve been a DNF for me. I’m only deciding to listen to the final book since my curiosity regarding what happens to Lucifer needs to be satisfied. That’s pretty much all.

I bought the 4 book box set and this review covers all of the books from that set.

I was drawn into this series from the very beginning, and I couldn’t help but buy this box set to find out what happened next. I was so looking forward to finding out how Mason was going to break through Jess’s painful walls and how she was going to teach the scarred fallen angel how to forgive himself. The fact that they clashed so well from the start made the love story that much sweeter. To have Lucifer in the mix as a sort of “third wheel” and “devil’s advocate” was an added bonus. And she sees what kind of faith she has when God tells her what the sacrifice will be in order to save her world.

Jess has sass and stands up to both Mason and Lucifer with the same ease, though her feelings for Mason make things a bit more awkward for her. Their love story starts out sweet and becomes a bit more steamy than might be necessary, for me, but it gives us an insight into how extremely intense and possessive these children of God can be.

Each of the secondary characters become an important part of not only an important set of back stories, but also to the story itself. They are all just as important in their parts whether they be large or small. The loss of a beloved character is heartbreaking and the all-consuming love of the lead characters is passionate.

I think I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Lilly and Brandon, but I adore each of the new characters Ms West introduces to us. I hope to see some of the secondary characters find love among the angels too, but until then, I’m looking forward to reading about the long awaited relationship between Lilly and Brand’s daughter Caylin and the playboy angel Aiden. Thank you for adding another layer to this amazing tale, S.J. West.

It Was Inevitable
To be clear, I'm still enjoying this story and plan to finish the series. But I'll admit to a certain amount of eyerolling through this particular book because it seemed to step into teenage mode for a pretty big chunk of time. I don't want to give any spoilers, but let's just say that once certain lines were crossed it sort of became the thing to do for most of the book. Yeah, that's a slight exaggeration since there was still a plot, but there were times when I wasn't quite so sure anymore.

I'm hoping hormones settle down just a little bit in the next book. Somebody's got to save the world...

Disappointed that the protagonist lost her ability to fight on her own, make decisions for herself, and be a fierce independent woman. This series started out with such a strong female lead and it quickly changed when the love interest came into the picture. I finished this novel because I can’t leave anything unfinished but made me sick to my stomach to read. She became so reliant on her lover. Became whiny and needy. A super toxic person in general and I hope most woman do not act like this in a relationship. Yuck.

the 1st book was GOOD! the 2nd was BLAH, but THIS one was difficult to get into. *sighs*
I wanted so much more, but it appears as though we've reached the end of the road. I'm not sure if I have it in me to finish the series with the last book. this one drained me.

Not a bad book 3. Mason and Jess are in alternate earth to retrieve Faison and encounter another vessel, Leah, and her guardian, Remy. Much of the story focused on Mason and Jess consummating their relationship and then on a mission Jess has from God to offer Lucifer back his crown. In the end, Jess is heartbroken because she realizes Lucifer is not easily swayed and her efforts to befriend Lucifer leads to another vessel being hurt. It’s a good read, the world building is good and it will be interesting how the last book ends.

Wow! The first book was so good but the last 2 were barely okay. Good grief, Mason and Jess were constantly in heat. It became ridiculous.

At least a little excitement went on, in-between their sex-capades.

I'm glad book 4 will be the last one. Hopefully, this will be the battle and they won't have time to have sex again and again.

No swearing to speak of but sex, sex and more sex.

As for the narration: Brittnay Pressley is all that kept me listening. She was awesome!

Took a little break from the series for numerous of reasons but it is time to finish up this series. I am going to have a hard time saying goodbye.

The story continues with Jess' journey to find Faison who was taken through the Tear. They land in a very similar world to theirs, but it is completely different at the same time. Along the way of finding her sister, she discovers God had more for her to do. When they get back through the Tear she is given another assignment to try and turn Lucifer back to good. Will she and her friends survive?

It was nice revisiting our gang. Even though its been a while, it was easy to slip back into the story. I did have to read the other blurbs and my reviews to remind myself. This does okay as a standalone, but you'll be missing a lot of back story. At least read book 2.

This felt calmer (after they get back from the Tear and that crazy other world) and not as filled to brim with drama or action. It was nice...but it makes me worried.

Jess and Mason take their relationship to the next level in this one. It was nice to see them fall more in love...BUT I do worry. There was a lot of smexy time here and it seemed to eclipse the story sometimes. Yes, I do worry for the next book.

Oh Lucifer....I want him to turn so badly and come back to the good side. He's a fun character and like Jess....I oddly like him even though he is a baddie. King of the baddies at that BUT there is an ounce of good in that body.

I am anxious to start the next and final book of the series. I worry for our characters. We have lost some along the way and I have a feeling not everyone is going to survive the final book. SOBS!

Again, no issues with the narrator. She is awesome and I especially love her Lucifer voice. It's not what you would typically expect but it is a fun take.

In the end, this was calmer. More of a transition in a way. We get to see some character and relationship developments in this one which is nice, but sometimes I felt like it was too calm and that the smexy scenes slowed the story down sometimes. It was a nice break in a way...but I worry for the last book. I'll give this 3 stars.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

After Faison went through the Tear after losing the love the of her life John Austin, God allowed both Jess and Mason to go to alternate Earth to get search for Faison and bring her home but they can’t force her to go home with them as the choice to return to their Earth is completely up to her. I’m glad that while on their quest to find Faison they meet some of Earth’s counterparts like Brand, Isaiah and Baruch who’re part of the resistance meaning Watcher’s who didn’t side with Lucifer. After talking to Brand about what happened with the Watchers from alternate Earth Mason lets go of some of his guilt of failing the Watchers he lead to earth as only about 40 Watcher’s drunk human bl*od under his command where as nearly all the Watcher’s under Justin’s command drank human bl*od and now follow Lucifer and have basically taken over the World. They also met alternate Earth’s Malcolm who works for Lucifer even if he’s adamant that his Soul is destroyed after helping takeover the World, he’s upset when he finds out that Jess k*lled his son but was also happy that she k*lled him before he could drink human bl*od therefore hopefully he’ll hopefully make it to heaven since Malcolm never allowed him to drink human bl*od even after siding with Lucifer and he warns both Mason and Jess to leave before Lucifer shows up as Malcolm knows that Lucifer would k*ll Mason so it just goes to show that his Soul hasn’t been completely destroyed. They find out that the Vessel that Jess, Chandler and JoJo saw and her Guardian Remy are actually on alternate Earth so it helped Faison come to terms with her loss easier thinking that John Austin’s d*ath actually had meaning as if he hadn’t of d*ed she wouldn’t have gone through the Tear and they wouldn’t have found Leah and Remy. I liked that this book had a lot more happening in it than previous books as the final showdown with Lucifer and the Princes of Hell draws nearer. I’m looking forward to reading the final book and seeing how the final battle between Lucifer, the Princes of Hell and the Vessel’s end. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author.

To be honest I would honestly give this a 2.5 but since I can't I gave it the 3. The continuous of this being primarily about Jess and Mason sexual life or lack their of or whatever you want to call it, I personally call it cringe worthy. It did not keep me focused on the story, nor kept me wanting to read more on it, if anything I found myself skipping through pages just not to read it. Now don't get me wrong I love romance in books, I will even admit to loving smut in my reads but this was just not in my tastes. It was overall annoying and although in the beginning I was rooting for these two it was just badly done. Sorry to the author because the overall concept of this series I do love but the sexual part and the code names and pet names I just absolutely dislike.
The other thing I absolutely just disliked is that everyone and I mean everyone knew about their personal life, I'm sorry but what?! I can see a best friend or even a family member getting the full deets on their personals but this was just absurd.
What saved this book for me was the fall out with her and Lucifer because I absolutely cried. Not a fan of said Lucifer in real life but to the point of this story I was really hoping for redemption and it broke my heart at their fall out; but it kept me interested to see what happens.
So with that being said I will keep reading the series because now I find myself invested, hopefully more about the story than Jess and Mason otherwise I will not finish.

I both love and hate these books. I am generally not big into romance, and I struggle with Jess and Mason's relationship. I am not sure if it is the bitterness of being a thirty-something woman with a plethora of downright awful relationships in my history; however, the idea of falling in love with the first guy and being sappily head over heels... I just can't enjoy it.

That being said, outside of the lovey dovey crap, I genuinely enjoy this story. I am fascinated by the plotline, and I was really into book 1 and 2, but this third book makes me want to take a break before I begin again. I am pretty unsure where we are heading at this point, and I struggle with the disengaged God and angsty Lucifer. I forget why he decided to rebel, because it was SOOOOO VERY LONG ago. I am not looking forward to finding out what sort of sacrifice Jess needs to make...and if they main characters have to go get matches one more time I am going to completely lose interest.

So I think I may wait on book 4.

I honestly have to say I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars. It actually is a 3.5 stars and 'll leave it at 4 just because I really like the series and have a lot of faith on the main stoty it has. I love the world the author has created, I like the characters and the chemistry between them. If I love it so mucho why 3.5 stars? Easy, the story of the fight, the quest, the vessels it's really good and I think it should be the center of the book, with the romance between Mason and Jess thrown in, but I feel it went the other way round, and find it difficult to believe that two responsible people, passionate about what they do and keeping the people they love safe would get SOOO distracted with "matches" while they are in a race against Lucifer. I get it, there are times they have to wait, they love each other, nothing against sex .. seriously.. but.. people.. we have other priorities right now!! That said, I'll be reading the last book because I want to know how everything turns out, although.. we already know it will be fine, right? hehe

So much change

The best thing about this installment in the series is that so much moves on from what it's been in the previous 2 books and changes to what I'm assuming it's gonna be in the last 2 books.

Jessica and Mason finally find matches which is also the most annoying part of the book. 50% of this book is themPlanning for the 1st time together.

The other 50% of this book is awesome we see them in an alternate universe with alternate versions of events we see the other vessels coming together and finding they're in finding they're relaxed although as the reader you're not involved in that part they just mainly get theirs. We also see Lucifer and Jesse's relationship develop into an actual friendship of sorts. Not to mention a few appearances of God.

The very end is a bit disappointing but at the same time expected.Otherwise we wouldn't have the tension needed to go into the 4th and final book.Looking forward to seeing how everything gets wrapped up in the 4th and final look.

Interesting Plot ideas / Amateurish Writing. The overall plot of the series has some interest to it. But the bad writing ruins it. Character development is seriously lacking (especially for the non-main characters). And when it comes to the two main characters (Jess & Mason), the intimate banter between them is beyond awful. It feels like it was written by someone in high school. It's at times over the top syrupy sweet. And other times just ridiculous. Neither character is all that believable. Jess goes from trying to play the vixen, to not even able to say the word sex. And their term for having sex ("getting matches") was so over used it made me want to poke my eyes out. I wish the author would have not attempted to do a sexy-romance novel and instead just tried to better develop the actual plot of the story. The narration was surprisingly good given the poor source material the narrator had to work with.

Oblivion (Book 3, The Watcher Chronicles) Kindle Edition

by S.J. West (

I borrowed this book via the Kindle Unlimited program

I'm completely obsessed with this series – both the four book series about Jess and Mason and the bigger, overarching series about the Watchers, their Mates, and the missions of both. Right now, I'm elbow deep in the next small series – Caylin's Story, or I'd write a longer, glowing, review.

This book takes us into a different, yet similar universe. This is something that movies and television shows and comic books and other books are doing right now. And none of those projects, with the exception of the Spider-Verse projects, have the heart and soul that Oblivion does. The only issue I had was that the actual conflict, struggle, and danger didn't seem as bad as it could have been. There was never a moment when I didn't believe everything would work out, at least temporarily, for all the characters. There really wasn't much danger.

That said, Ms. West is a brilliant world-builder. She created not one but two worlds, each was the same and each was different in their own way. I fell head first into the worlds.

The characters are people I would like to meet. The story of Angels, God, the devil, and humans could come off uber-religious, yet Ms.West walks the fine line of keeping those of us who aren't religious interested and those who are religious happy with her interpretation of the Watchers, the Nephilim, the Angels, and even God.

A great series that kept me reading every spare second I had.

5 stars out of 5

The battle between Heaven as Hell heats up!

Jess continues to gather the other vessels in preparation for the fight against Lucifer whilst trying to deepen their growing friendship and bring him back to the light and Gods graces. Is she doomed to fail or will her love for Mason and her new friends give her the strength to win the ultimate battle between heaven and hell? This book doesn't give the reader the answer instead it concludes with another cliffhanger and left me desperate for more. I listened to this book for free with Kindle Unlimited.

Jess and Mason begin their search for Faison and find themselves in a world where everything is turned upside down. Jess’ relationship with Lucifer takes a turn she didn’t expect which prompts God to give her a mission she’s not sure she’ll survive. Jess and Mason finally find time for sex and to declare their love, then can't seem to get enough in between arguing with Lucifer and trying to figure out the tear.
Jess finally sees that by being honest with Lucifer sees that he will if possible kill her the next time he sees her.

Still enjoying the series. Took a star off because of how cheesy the romance is written and all the eye rolling I did while reading about the “love making” -Jess also got on my nerves at times. She is so immature about some things (mainly relationships and sex) and then she acts like some seasoned warrior and makes decisions without getting input from anyone else. She has so much help and knowledge at her fingertips and doesn’t ask for it unless someone is at deaths door.

A much improved installment!!!

This is such an imaginative author but I find it frustrating that they tiptoe around sex scenes so badly 😞 I mean calling going down on each 'marshmallow & reverse marshmallow' says it all!!! I'd prefer them leave sex scenes out altogether I think!!! 😳😂

Again, a wonderfully imaginative story that takes us to new worlds, encompasses biblical tales & twines them with modern fantasy fiction really well on the whole!!

This Story is well constructed. I love the characters.

I can’t remember any corse language. There is violence, but doesn’t go into gory details. The story does touch on molestation.

Narrator Brittany Pressley brings the characters alive with their own individual unique voice. And I really enjoy her telling the story. Speed is set at 1.4 x

Real enjoying this series.

2.5…there’s a lot of drama in this book. It’s kind of like watching a soap opera. But it’s super vanilla in every way. When I finished this book and put Ruin and Rising back in to go to sleep, I realized a big reason that it reads as lackluster. There’s no drama in the prose itself, and there’s a general lack if creativity in the magic. The author doesn’t push any limits or get your imagination going. It’s also just overwhelmingly cheesy with the flirting. The beginning and the end were ok.

This is book three in the series and if you don't read the first two, you'll probably be pretty lost. This really is NOT a stand alone book.I
Jess and her people are finding the others pretty quilt now. Mason has figured out how to tell who goes with who. At the very end, Lucifer makes his choice.
Well written story. Great characters. Interesting storyline.

Intense emotions of happiness and sad, such a great story!

My emotions were up and down. So much happiness happened during the story and sadness. Finally Jess has freed herself emotionally and is loving her new found love life but things get intense with new people and old friends. Loved it!

Good, but not as good as the previous two in the trilogy and it kind of ended before this part of the story was fully completed. It just wrapped up quickly, almost as though the author just wanted to get on to the final book to end the series. So it felt as though it was cut short, hence four stars instead of five.

Ok

The book is fine. No spice, but they finally did it, it's just fade to black 😩
Had to listen to is at 3x speed because it bored me.
The entire God versus Lucifer thing was not as fun as I thought. It's becoming more more evangelical, similar to a sermon in church, I stead of fun novel.
The book will be great for some but not for me.

Phenomenal

No one can spin a tale like SJ West! Each chapter in this book was better than the one before. The rich tapestry of story and characters was so engrossing I was unable to put to put it down. Standing O 👏
