At the heart of one of the most well known (even clichéd) stories of all time lies a subtle and life changing truth. God used a stone in the hand of a boy. That God used a stone means He can use us too.
If we have to be honest we are losing to life. Sure, we pretend that things are fine, but we know there is more. The lack of life in so many churches confirms this unspoken truth. To make matters worse, we are in bound by the giants that surround us. While we sing songs of victory on Sunday, Monday brings bondage.
The story of David is the story of each of us. For too long church as we know it has created a structure that undermines our identity in God. We have abdicated who we are as priests of the living God and have often forfeited a victorious life. As we learn what made David different, we too will be made different. We'll become a stone in the hand of a victorious God.
I chose this book because it is one of my favorite genres. I like how the author used David and Goliath to compare to the Goliaths we face each day of our life. David was just a shepherdboy keeping watch over his flock, but he done his job with gratitude, though others saw him as unimportant because be was only a shepherdboy. However, when it came time to confront Goliath the giant - much larger than David, he boldly stepped forward, refusing to use a sword, armour, etc. No, instead, David trusted God and used his sling. It is easy to get bogged down and angry over a situation in life, but God is always there to see us through. No one said it will be easy, God doesn't even say that, but He DOES say He'll be with us. Think about Job who lost everything and later richly rewarded for his faith. Think about David, a small sheperdboy who took on giant much larger than he, and completed that mission with one stone.... just ONE. If God use a stone, He can us anyone or anything. Overall good read. thanks Mr Mullek. I hope to find more of your work in the future.
The best book written on the life of king David. I've been reading this book over the phone with a loved one and we shared deep conversations as well as tears of conviction! You will be greatly blessed by the intelligence of this author as well as the heart of our Creator! This book will help you reconcile any guilt or shame of past sin and show you through Scripture, that no matter what you've done, God wants to use even your worst mistakes to bring about a redemptive plan for your life and for His glory! Thank you Andrew Mullek!
I started this book several years ago, and for some reason didn't finish it even though I loved it. I stumbled across this almost completed book and decided to finish it. It was exactly the words I needed to confirm what God has been guiding me to, but I have been afraid. If He can use a stone, He can use me. I will step out of my comfort zone in faith and obedience. Thank you for writing this book. A very present help for me.
This book certainly opened my eyes to the life of David, his service to God, his downfall and restoration by God. Every body knows the story of David and Goliath but this book tells us so much more and how it links in with other sections of the Bible. So it is not just telling the story of David's life but it is also a useful Bible study tool.
If you are ever not sure of who you are or who you are supposed to be read this book. You have been predestined for greatness and only through the Father will you come to know that
A great story retold to us to help us understand life in God.
Very well written and easy to understand. One of the best books I have read. A simple story we learn in Sunday school but the value of the story is amazing.
Wow! An amazing reminder that all we have to do is have faith in God & he will do the rest. Each of us is a priest of Christ. We need to use our gifts & focus on defeating the giants in our lives and not becoming complacent. A very worthwhile read!
I really enjoyed this book. there's so much to learn, process, apply, and share. I plan on reading it again and maybe another time. Thank you for a great teaching.
Good book by indie author. Excellent message. I loved his description of the fivefold priesthood. I would have given the book five stars if the author had found a good editor. the lack of contractions and repitition drove me a bit crazy. other than that a solid read.
Excellent read for all Christians. So often, authors will use examples of people from the Bible to explain how Christians should be living their lives or, on the other hand, use them as bad examples we shouldn't follow and then the lesson gets bogged down with a lot of big words only known to scholars. Andrew Mullek did a great job of giving both good and bad examples from the life of King David and wrote in such a way the information can be easily understood by Christians regardless of their level of education.
