Ariol is a donkey and his best friend Ramono is a pig. One is blue with long ears and big glasses, the other is pink with a snout like a light socket. They may not be similar, but they are friends. This third volume continues Ariol's adventures at home and at school, but also gives us a closer look at his life with his best friend, Ramono.

About the author

Emmanuel Guibert has written a great many graphic novels for readers young and old, among them the Sardine in Outer Space series and The Professor’s Daughter with Joann Sfar.

In 1994, a chance encounter with an American World War II veteran named Alan Cope marked the beginning of a deep friendship and the birth of a great biographical epic.

Another of Guibert's recent works is The Photographer. Showered with awards, translated around the world and soon to come from First Second books, it relates a Doctors Without Borders mission in 1980’s Afghanistan through the eyes of a great reporter, the late Didier Lefèvre.

Guibert lives in Paris with his wife and daughter.

You know, there's something about college classes that makes me really desire adorable midgrade age comics and this totally fixed it. Super cute donkey and pig are best friends and crack me up with their middle school antics. very cute and silly. now i have to finish the series.

A little book for kids , it was simple

This graphic novel series is a success among students. I finally stopped to read it.
It is about Ariol, a donkey, his friends and family and the situations that involve them.
There are short stories in it and I believe they could all have been addressed in a better way. I thought some of the dialogues were a bit rude and silly... It was nothing like I thought it would be. Anyway, it kind of "talks" to the way many kids communicate with each other.
The nice parts did not make up for the poor ones.
I don't know, I didn't like it.

Just delightful! I've grown quite fond of this anthropomorphic community. Such lovely, but very real-life characteristics. I had a smile on my face the whole way through but wasn't laughing out loud like the last volume so just a tad lower rating than volume 2. Volume 3 continues with episodic short stories centred around Ariol the donkey and his family, friends, community and school. As the title suggests his best friend Ramono, the pig, is given some extra feature time as the stories largely surround their friendship and their love for the superhero Thunder Horse. We even get to meet Ramono's sister and mother. No age is ever given for our heroes but we are told Ramono's older sister is 14, so I'm thinking Ariol et al. are about 12yo. Kids will certainly identify with the realistic slice -of-life situations which are played out here for humour on both a level that kids and adults will enjoy separately.

Ariol is a donkey who worships a superhero character named Thunder Horse and has a great imagination (which sometimes gets him in trouble). In comic strips, readers see how Ariol plays with his friends, relates to family, crushes on a girl at school, and completes schoolwork.

Equal parts relatable and funny, this series is a highly recommended read for Dav Pilkey fans, Lunch Lady enthusiasts, and boys and girls alike grades 3-5.

With the third book in the series, I find I'm liking Ariol a little bit more with each book. He feels like a real kid. He knows the rules and knows he should follow them, but he is easily lead astray by his friends. Readers will recognize someone they know in the characters here. And have fun reading about them.
