M Christina Butler was born in Scarborough. She had an idyllic childhood in the country where she spent her weekends playing on a farm among the animals. Christina has worked as a nurse, a pre-school nursery supervisor, and a governor at her local primary school, as well as writing a number of children’s books. She now lives close to York.
Little Hedgehog must contend with a rainy, blustery day in this third adorable picture-book devoted to his adventures, setting out into the wet outdoors in his bright yellow raincoat, boots and hat. Soon happening upon friends in need - Mole's house is flooded, and he is looking for a dry spot, while Mouse and her children must be rescued from the reeds, where they are holding on for dear life, lest the river bear them away - Hedgehog, aided by his polka-dot umbrella, lends a hand. Eventually all of the animal companions take shelter at Badger's snug home, where they reflect upon their exciting day...
Unlike its two predecessors, One Snowy Night and One Winter's Day, which both featured velvety touch-and-feel elements (hats, scarfs, mittens) in the artwork, One Rainy Day, described on the cover as "A Shimmery Shiny Book," boasts a sparkly umbrella, and shiny coat, boots and hat. Although this makes it a little less interactive than a touch-and-feel book, the result is still very appealing - apparently, in addition to my decided weakness for hedgehogs (and porcupines), I also have a thing for glitter... If I had to choose a single word to describe these books about Little Hedgehog, it would be "cozy." Recommended to little hedgehog lovers, and to children who enjoy glittery/sparkly books.
While this didn't have quite the heartwarming coziness of the snuggly One Snowy Night the illustrations are still gosh darn cute! Instead of the fuzzy-felt hat in "One Snowy Night," here we have a shimmery/shiny touch-and-feel raincoat and umbrella. Hedgehog uses the trusty new umbrella to help woodland friends in need when a rainstorm comes (I couldn't help but think of Pooh and the rainy day!) and all end up dry and happy in the end.
This is a very beautiful book with amazing illustrations that include shimmer shine. The story is cute. In it Little Hedgehog sets out to help his friend Mole find a new home when his gets rained out. In the story, Little Hedgehog and Mole end up rescuing the mice family and then end up with Fox in Badger's home. When Badger's roof starts to leak because of all the rain, Little Hedgehog fixes it with his umbrellas. All the friends spend the rest of the rainy day drinking cocoa and relaxing. It is very sweet and enjoyable.

It's nice to find a book that is positive about rainy days! Rain is part of life and finding joy in it is a good thing. I liked the illustrations, and found the glittery umbrella to be a nice touch.

Boonuseks on üliarmsad pildid. Kuna teksti on raamatus vähe, siis rohkem ei kirjuta....
It was a cute story with cute illustrations, and I think a child would love this story! Especially the parts of the pages that have shiny or sparkly designs that you can touch and oogle at.
One Rainy Day is about just that. Mole, being a very helpful fellow, is so excited about the rain that he dons his raingear and leaves home to have some puddle jumping fun. During the course of his rain filled activities Mole comes across a few animals in need of a little help. He never hesitates and is always there for his fellow animals. All together there is Mole, a fox, a Mother mouse and her babies and a hedgehog. They have a nice little get together at the end and Julia commented on how nice it was that the animals all got along instead of hunting each other and being mean. If only...
This is a cute story about hedgehog and his rainy day adventure. When he wakes up to the rain that morning he is excited to wear his new rain gear and use his umbrella. While he is out splashing in some puddles the rain turns into quite a storm and hedgehog finds himself saving friends and solving problems.
This book is appropriate for ages 3+
When I walked over to the library the other day I checked out this book because I had just gotten soaked by the rain so I would recommend reading it on a rainy day where afterwards, maybe you can go splash in some puddles too.
One Rainy Day by M. Christina Butler The book is involving and age appropriate. Little Hedgehog is very excited when he wakes up to the sound of raindrops. Finally he can wear his spiffy new raincoat, hat, and boots, and use his shiny new umbrella. But soon the rain shower turns into a storm and Little Hedgehog’s rainy day turns into a great big adventure! Little Hedgehog used his umbrella to rescue his friends.
This is a very cute story and has nice illustrations with shimmery red umbrella throughout. I love that there is excitement about the rainy day because of the new galoshes, boots and umbrella and that the animals are all helpful and friendly and end up enjoying themselves despite the weather.
This book had great pictures that really would engage the reader. Excellent book for predictions. This book woulod really be for a younger audinece due to the simple words and not aloot of text. Definitely a beginning reader book.
One Rainy Day is a cute little story that shows the hazards of rainy days if you're a mole or a mouse. It creatively shows just how troublesome the rain can be. The illustrations were absolutely delightful!! A beautiful book to read on a cool, rainy day. =)
The story is cute though it does seem a little reminiscent of a Winnie-the-Pooh tale. The best part of this book is the illustrations. The pastels are absolutely beautiful and really add to the feeling of the book. A great book for snuggling up with on a rainy day!
Little Hedgehog happily dons his new rainwear, pops up his umbrella, and goes out into the rain. When he meets Mole who is wet and unhappy, Little Hedgehog lends him his umbrella - which soon turns into a big problem for Mole. This story is sweet and comical with adorable illustrations.
The book seems to be a vehicle for the "shimmery, shiny" umbrella without much of a story. The art is cute and could be fun to let the kids come up with their own stories.
One rainy day, Hedgehog goes out for a walk with his new shiny umbrella to find that his friends are in trouble! Delightful illustrations and sweet story.
This book is about a little hedgehog named Little Hedgehog who helps his friend Mole who needs to find a new home, because his home got rained in. The story is cute, and the pictures are beautiful.
