About the author

Born Gujarati, Chandrakant Bakshi is known for his bold and new concepts in writing. Bakshi never prepared more than one draft for his writings. His language was mix-up of Gujarati and Urdu words. His novels and stories had impact of existentialism, his characters are suffering and frustrated yet surviving. He wrote historical fictions like Atitvan and Ayanvritta. His short stories have themes like complexities of urban life, emotional outbursts, atmosphere of war etc. He wrote extensively on history and culture. His writing was 'sharp and brutal' when he criticized people he disliked.

આ પુસ્તક મેં વાચેલા અત્યાર સુધી નાં પુસ્તકો માંથી સવથી વધારે સમય લેનારું છે. ને શું કામ નાં હોય? કોઈ માણસ ની આખી જીવન વાર્તા જાણવી એ સહેલી વાત નથી.

પણ મને વાર એટલા માટે પણ લાગી કે મારું ગુજરાતી કાચું છે ને દરેક પન્ના પર મારા શબ્દકોશમાં ઉમેરો થતો ગયો છે. પહેલાં તો થોડું વાચિને મૂકી દીધી. થયું કૈક સહેલું વાચું ગુજરાતીમાં. પણ પછી મન મક્કમ કરીને ફરી ઉપાડ્યું. એક દિવસ ના એક પન્ના થી માંડી ને શરૂઆત કરી. એક દિવસમાં ૮-૮ પન્ના ને પછી ૧૦-૧૦ પન્ના નાં પ્રકરણ વાચ્યા.

બક્ષીજીનું નામ પહેલી વાર Gujarati Literature Festival માં સંભડ્યુતું, લેખિકા કાજલ ઓઝા વૈદ્ય નાં મોઢે. ને ત્યારથી એક fantasy રહી હતી, આ નામ ને વધારે જાણવાની. ને એ વાતને આજે ૭ વરસ થયા છે ને બક્ષીનામા નિમિતે થોડું ઘણું જાણ્યું છે. મે હજુ સુધી એમને લખેલું કાઈ વાચ્યું નથી. ને મને એ પણ નથી ખબર કે સાચી રીત કંઈ હોય છે કોઈની આત્મકથા વાચવાની, પહેલાં એમને લખેલું વચો કે આત્મકથા વાચો?
પણ જે વાચ્યું, જેવું વાચ્યું, બક્ષીજી ની દિલધડક અને જીવી લેવાની ભાવનાએ અને એમને વાચેલું, લખેલું ને જિવેલું છે, એનું અડધું પણ જો આ એક જનમ માં થાય તો બહુ થય જશે!

મને એક વાત ખાલી ચુભી છે, એમને એમના પત્ની વિશે ખાસ એટલું લખ્યું નથી આત્મકથામાં. મને જાણવું હતું, કે આવી રીતે જીવવા વાળા નાં જોડે રેનારા કેવા હશે કે જેનાથી એમને આટલી સ્વતંત્રતા મળી. કારણ કે એક સમજદાર વ્યક્તિ જ આવી રીતે કદાચ ડગલે ને પગલે જોડે ઉભુ રહી શકે.

એમને વચેલું અઢળક સાહિત્ય, એમને શીખેલી ભાષાઓ ને એમને અલગ અલગ સમયે એમના જીવન માં કરેલા ફેરફારથી વધારે આકર્ષિત થઇ છું. ત્યાં સુધી કે crush બની ગયા છે 😁

લેખક ની પોતાની આત્મકથા છે, જેમાં એમની બંગાળની સફર થી માંડીને અમદાવાદ અને મુંબઈ સુધી ની છે. બક્ષી ની ભાષા ધારદાર અને જલદ છે, જે ઘણા ને પચાવવી અઘરી પડે છે, પરંતુ બક્ષી લખાણ હંમેશા to the point નિખાલસ અને શબ્દો ચોર્યા વિનાનું રહ્યું છે. નવા પત્રકારો એ આ પુસ્તક ખાસ વાંચવું.

I had my prejudices against him, he always used to sound unapologetically truthful and so brave.
'Bakshinama' introduced me to new Mr. Bakshi.
Indeed to live life fully is an opportunity to be able to say "It's a LARK".

Superb book 📚 this is a biography of Gujarati writer, who live in three different cities: palanpur, Kolkata and Mumbai. It is a very good output of a writer. Every detail of his life is captured in this bakshinama.🤩
