“So I live my life according to the rules of others while my secret festers its way through my body. It bleeds slowly out of my heart and into my veins. Each word of my secret pulsing through me as it gets closer to the surface. I imagine one day it will get so close to the surface it will spring forth from my lips and reveal the monster I really am.” – Ruined.

Bailey Michaels is living a lie. She has a handsome and successful fiancé, a great job and a house in a town she adores. Her friends and family know her as the perfectly crafted individual she has created in their minds. Her deception knows no bounds when it comes to keeping the truth from everyone else. But it’s not enough. She craves the love of the one man she can’t possibly have – the only one who shares her secret.

Despite her angst over continuing her forbidden affair, nothing can keep her from Angel.

His dark looks, chiseled jaw and broodiness make it impossible for her to ever deny him anything. So when presented with a choice, Bailey knows she finally has to make a decision. Keep living the lie with her fiancé, Carron, or finally be with Angel – the man who’s had her heart since she was fifteen.

The funny thing with life though; just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, fate has a way of stepping in and turning the best laid plans to ruins.

1.5 Pathetic Stars...

I am so deeply disgusted and disappointed at this book. I went into this book blind, I didn't read a review or snippet or synopsis or anything!
Oh Boy what a mistake!
After reading this book I swear I will appreciate all reviews written!!

Let's start off with this skank Bailey..
She has the most perfect boyfriend in EVERY sense.. Carron... Sweet, handsome, loving and his a Doctor!
He trusts her so much I actually feel so sorry for him.

This book frustrated me to death!!!
All the secrecy and actually 'Ruined' (excuse the cliche) this entire book.
Constant back and forth from the past and dreams and useless crap which made no sense at all!!!!

*****Spoilers Ahead*****

Constant irritations:

-Who the F***K is Angel?
-Why can't you be with him?
-Why are you a selfish B***H?
-If you don't love Carron why are you. with him??
-Why do you keep running after Angel?
-Why do you feel guilty if you are a whore??

*Note these are answers to the above shit as I want to save everyone time in reading this trash*

Answers:

1)Angel isn't even his real name
His real name is Emmett
2)You can't be 'with' him because he is your f****g Brother!!!!!!!
3) You selfish and want them both because you are a lying skank
4)You with him because you thought your brother wanted you to?!?! This is even more twisted!!
5) Running to Angel because you only want him, his the 'love of your life'
6) I cannot even give an answer to the last question because all I can say this brood need psychiatric help!!!

She cheats on poor Loving Carron the entire book with this Angel whom we cannot figure out who this dude is..

Not only is she selfish and a cheating whore bust she's a miserable piece of trash! she's a cheater fine! But atleast when she was with Carron she could 'Act' happy!!!!

Angel/Emmett is her adopted brother- don't get me wrong, I can understand if he was adopted late in life but they were brought up together when they were little children! In the same house! With the same parents!!!!

If your big brother saves you, yes his a hero! A brother is any little sisters hero! You don't fall in love with him and screw him!!!

Then when Carron finds out he still loves her and wants to be friends?!?

Bullshit!!! What trash!! So not only did she screw around, she accepted a f****g marriage proposal!!!!
So she's a liar, cheater and a disgusting person who does not know where to draw the line in FAMILY LOVE!!

Then one year later she MARRIES her brother in Mexico to live a secret life!

Bottom line- NOT only do we hate cheaters but we certainly cannot condone incest! (Blood related or not!)

“Hi, my name’s Bailey Michaels and I’m a sucker for punishment. The thing is, though, I don’t want normal. I only want him. No, that’s not even right. I need him. I need Angel.”

“No one will know that I have been willingly ruined by Angel – at least not while I can keep my mouth shut.”

Yep, and Bailey did a pretty good job of that as did Angel and it was heart breaking to see the two of them struggle with their intense love for one another while keeping a deep dark secret.

So… this was a short captivating read for an afternoon. It really did grab my attention and did not let me go until the last page. It was not an outstanding read and I did have the secret figured out fairly quickly, but I still needed to see how things would be played out.

Even though Bailey has been in love with only one person since she was 15, it was difficult to read how her finacé, Carron loved her so unconditionally. I really felt sorry for him. But then I had to remember that Bailey was forced to be with Carron based on Angel’s rejection of her.

There is lying and cheating in this story and a few other things that did not sit well with me

But I had to be reminded why this was happening and to best explain I think this comment from Bailey says a lot:

“I’ve been reading One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey. I’m not yet finished, but feel the characters have traits I possess. Devious, wicked and a little mad, with sanity clearly evading some of the characters altogether"

And… just when you think Bailey may actually be able to have a healthy relationship with Carron, Angel decides that he cannot live without her and she must leave Carron and finally be with him:

‘Shit, Bails. I may think our relationship is wrong, but I know you are absolutely perfect for me. There isn’t a single woman on this earth who holds my eye the way you do.’

Bailey agrees but life takes another twist and things do not go as planned… However, you the reader will have to read this to find out the rest of the story and I do not think you will be disappointed.

Perhaps you will even be shocked and awed!

I'm the minority here but this book FRUSTRATED the hell out of me. The entire story was "RUINED" in my humble opinion by the authors attempt at keeping the reader in suspense. So many things about this book made absolutely no sense to me. I will try to explain without spoiling the lackluster story.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS:
* Why all the traveling back and forth (he flew in just to tuck her in, really?)...Why not discuss your past, present or future? ( sorry, those tidbits from dreams were not enough )
* Why not move to another state/country, where you can be together in public?
* Why accept Carron's marriage proposal? Just be friends. He was a good man....
*Why did he put up with her shit?(he couldn't remove her top while love making because she was cold, WTF!!).
*Why not fight for your relationship..(ANGEL- "we cannot be together"...BAILS-"but I love you"...ANGEL-"NO!"...BAILS-"Otay")....GRRRR!!!!

There's on thing I do know for certain . Bailey aka twatwaffle

"Hi, my name's Bailey Michaels and I'm a sucker for punishment. The thing is, though, I don't want normal. I only want him. No, that's not even right. I need him, I need Angel."

Bailey Michaels is a pretty miserable human being despite the fact that she is engaged to wonderful guy named Carron and shares a beautiful home with him. You see, Bailey's heart belongs to another and sadly they can't be together.

"He is the one person who I will ruin everything else good in my life for, despite how bad he thinks our relationship is."

The story is told in such a way that a reader is driven page by page to figure out who Angel is to her and why they can't be together. Bailey and Angel sneak around Carron's back because this couple can't stay away from each other.

Things get interesting when Angel can't stay away from Bailey any longer.

"...since that day. I still want, desire and need you. Fuck him off, I can't stand the thought of his paws on you a minute longer. We need to be together. Tell me what I need to do to make it happen." Angel

I found this book to be a suspenseful and entertaining read. Even though my buddy read partner Janne and I figured out the mystery aspect of the story. The book still held a twist or two by the end and I enjoyed it.

Dreadful..*****Possible mild spoilers*****

I was so excited when I picked up this book, a GoodReads friend who actually likes many of the friend who likes many of the same books that I do was RAVING about it. The synopsis was amazing and looked like it was right up my book loving alley.. I thought no way could this go wrong..

I was wrong...

Not only did I HATE Bailey, I loathed everything about her.. whiny, ungrateful and the most selfish h I have read about in a long long time. She has no self respect, which apparently was supposed to be the point.. But listening to the thoughts in her head was actually making me say out loud "you are such an idiot" and I didn't like that..

Carron, would be any girls prince charming, he is a great doctor who loves Bailey, like really loves her and would do anything for her.. but does that matter NO.. Instead we hear about how she doesn't even like him to touch her, and listen to her openly dissing him in her head, like she is the hottest thing ever and has any place to diss a man who loves her as if they are lining up for her.. She doesn't deserve him and I just felt horrible for him..

Angel is hot, but he is a jerk.. I didn't like him either.. I don't like how he kept pushing Bailey away, how he told her to move on but then got upset that she did..

i don't like how they were really connected too. The author tried to screw with us and make us think he was one person, when in fact he was someone totally different..

I didn't care for the writing either, some of it was a little too forced for my taste.. Some of the sex scenes felt too forced..

SO I am sorry.. I am sorry I am only giving this 1.5 stars, I am sorry I could not and did not like this book as much as others seem to.. I tried.. I really did and I couldn't swallow it..

What can I really say that isn't going to give the story away? Well all you really need to know is it's coming very soon and I fell hard.
Ruined covers a sensitive topic without you even realising it and I loved every bit.
5 stars easy!
P.s, you may need a cold glass of water, coz Angel is H.O.T!

Living a lie can either go two ways , you can either become so good at deceiving others which can lead to you having the ability to believe your own lies or you can lie to others but find it hard to keep up and play The Lying Game. To borrow the tagline from the tv show "The Lying Game" it helps to describe this book as "How long could you keep up the Lying Game"?
In Ruined we meet couple Bailey and Carron - in a way they are good for each other, perfect almost. To Bailey, Carron represents a world of normancly and he loves her so that should be enough - shouldn't it ? However Bailey is not quite content as her heart belongs to another man who stole it a long long time ago - a man named Angel. He is the one she really wants but can never have .
Will Bailey continue to consider herself "Ruined" and unable to love Carron ? Or will the love Carron holds for Bailey, show her that no matter what she is the girl for him and that he wants to spend the rest of his life with her ?
Ruined is a tale of love and obsession , a tale of mixed feelings that happens within us when we are trapped in a field of whom to love and who is the perfect man for us all . I was able to relate in a way to this story as I am sure most women can also admit too doing as when it comes to the crunch are we always married or with the person we truly love or do we keep a candle in our hearts alight for another person - the one that was let go either by us or them.
Ruined is a story that all should read and as they are reading it, women and the odd male if they choose to read the novel will sit there possibly with their heads nodding as if to say "I've been there".

I can't really say much about this book without giving anything away...but here it goes.....

I'm certain that this was the expression on my face the entire book....
Animated Gifs

or something like this.....
Animated Gifs

So what I can say about Ruined is that it was pretty predictable (well really, really predictable) and I really never connected with the two main characters, Bailey and Angel (in fact I hated them both). I couldn't find any redeeming qualities in either of them and that's a must for me. If you're gonna be selfish, manipulative and just plain stupid then at least have something to balance out all those shitty things about yourself. (FYI their "love" wasn't enough for me to feel sorry for them). Ok, enough with the bashing.

The one thing I did like was that it was quick read ;)

K, that's all

Note: There will be a LOT of ranting and it’s more a complete critique than refined review. Also there will be a LOT of Spoilers.
__________________________________________

Ruined is the story of Bailey who has been in love with “Angel” since she was a teenager. At 26 she is still in love with him, but living a charade of a life with her fiancé Carron. Here is the story of a Forbidden Love and the potential was there, but the main character: Bailey is so shallow, self centered, egotistical and easy that I can’t find myself having empathy or wish her a happy ending. Her character’s construction and zero development RUINED the story completely for me. I’m an avid reader and I can’t remember the last time I disliked a main character as much as I disliked Bailey. I finished the story just to be sure who was her “Angel” and to be honest I figured it out pretty early on. Bailey is in love with her adopted brother Emerson and even though they aren’t blood related, they don’t know how to share their lives as a couple out in the open without being judged or hurting their family. Then she meets Carron AKA “I’m so brilliant that I’m a doctor but for the life of me I can’t tell this girl who obviously care more about the shit she dumps in the toilet than me to go away” and she tries to live a “normal life” with him. For Bailey a “normal life” is not giving a shit about Carron, be unfaithful to him at every opportunity she’s got, be in “angel-land” and self pity 99.9% of the time. The funny thing is I think this story of forbidden love could have been really beautiful and good, I even think if the story was told in “Angel’s” AKA Emerson POV it could have been better. To be honest I can’t have empathy for Bailey’s character at all. I can’t understand how can she sleeps with Carron one night and the next day sleeps with “Angel” and repeat the circle so frequently, call me old fashion but I can’t really get into that. At some point I expected that she will grow as a character and stop doing a “sperm cocktail“, find some self respect and show respect to the two men in her life. But NOOOOOO!!! She keeps doing the same shit until the end of the story. When she finally decides to leave Carron to live with her love, she starts packing, transfers from her job and do all the pertinent things she needs to do to start her new life, but because she is so smart, honest and she really cares for Carron she forgot to tell her fiancé that he is being dumped as the shit he’s always been to her. How? How could she even not talk to him? She is so hilarious that the night before she got away with her love, Carron tries to have sex with her (because he is so smart that he still can’t figure out that this girl doesn’t give a shit about him and he will be tossed as soon as tomorrow in the trash) she told him she is in her period but Carron doesn’t care, she feels she can’t betray Angel so she gives him a BlowJob. /HaHa/ What a piece of a woman the main character is. Well “Angel” AKA Emerson suffers an accident and when she is in the hospital with him Carron finds the “goodbye” letter Bailey left prior to the accident. Finally Carron decides to use the same brain that got him to MED School and puts two and two together and figure out how shitty his fiancé or ex fiancé is. Two seconds later he dumps his brain once again and forgives and helps her, and even at the end when she marries her brother lover he is Bailey’s BFF. The end is inconclusive, selfish Bailey got everything she ever wanted AKA “Angel” Emerson BUT what happened to their family? Did they approve the relationship? Did they even know? Leaving the ranting behind I had no doubt the author knows how to write, but clearly missed the point of character development. For me the key of good writing is when I connect with the emotions of the characters and empathize with them and clearly this wasn’t the case. Also in the structure line of the story the characters need to grow and learn from the situations because another key to good writing is the one that portraits a lot of reality and truth, this was strike two for Pratt. Strike number three was that at the end she didn’t wrap the story in a good note because of all the problems above.

WARNING. POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD.

Hmmm.. I'm going to start by saying that I think this book aimed to shock the reader but the storyline was already kind of predictable so obviously, it fell a bit short.

Bailey is the heroine who is keeping a huge secret from her past. The story is told through her POV and we see flashbacks from when she was a lot more younger and living in her home town. She is obviously keeping a taboo secret with a guy she calls "Angel." At first, I thought to myself, What an odd name for a guy.. and later found out that it wasn't really his name and that Bailey was only calling him that because she saw him as her "Guardian Angel." That's when I knew something was fishy. Angel was kept mysterious throughout 90% of the book but I sort of figured out who he was about 20% of the book. I just needed a confirmation to affirm my guess but it wasn't given until the last 90%.

The writing was okay. The pacing was fast and kept me on edge so I was able to finish this book in one sitting. A few things that kind of irked me would be Bailey's inconsistency and that the story felt rushed towards the end. The end also felt so rush that we didn't get a resolution to their huge secret. They kept this secret for years and ended their relationship in order to keep it that yet on one occasion, they suddenly want to be together without caring about their secret anymore and that it would hurt the people they love and we don't get a resolution from that. It just ends in a HEA without care to any of the issues that actually kept them apart in the first place.

I think this could've been an awesome book. The idea was cool and kind of interesting but sadly, it didn't deliver.

Damnit this book really got the mind working trying to figure out who that taboo man was!!
But I will admit that I kind of had an inkling it was him earlier on but wasn't 100% sure until your pretty much given the man's name on a silver platter..
Kind of had conflicting emotions with this book, mainly with the infidelity.. If say it was some wanker of a main character I'd be rooting for the female to dip her toes on the dark side but this guy just seemed so lovely, as you read along it was pointed out more than once that he put others feeling before his own :(
So that's where I struggled with this book..
Don't get me wrong though I did love this story and definitely recommend it!!

Oh My

Holy Guacamole. I mean OMG does not even begin to discribe it. Lets recap....I am sitting on my back porch reading Ruined by S Pratt. And then....WHAM. An 18 wheeler just smacks me in the head. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I think my neighbors may need some counseling after the string of "&%$(*&%(^" I let fly. I hope the 4 year old birthday party behind my house was not too disturbed.

The story... Bailey is unhappy. She doesn't really have any reason to be so unhappy. Her fiance, Carron, is a loving, caring, nurturing doctor who adores the crap out of her. But is she content? NO. She longs for Angel. The man she has been in love with since she was 15. BTW...Angel is not his real name. She calls him Angel because she feels he saved her from...well from lots of things back in high school and since.

So Bailey...she has this great guy, Carron. But she longs for Angel and has carried on a multi year affair with him. She can never fully give herself to Carron. Bad situation I think you would agree. But she can't be with Angel either. Because Angel says they can't be together. They have the Forbidden Love. Do we know why it is Forbidden? NOOOO we do not. Not until much later on in the book and then...4 year old birthday parties are disturbed. Yes, it is like that.

Angel knows he should not want Bailey but he can not help himself. While he knows it is best to stay away from her, he can not help the way he feels any more than Bailey can. And who suffers in this love triangle of disception...Carron of course. I love Carron. He is a good guy.

This book had me in knots. I was so trying to figure it out until the big reveal and then...WHAM. Great story. Great mystery. Great angst.

Here is what I did not love. The author, Ms Pratt is obviously not American. That is FINE. Just write what you know. It is not a windscreen, it is a windshield. The story seems to have Oregon and Maryland just a few hours apart Hint to non-American writers...Washington state and Washington DC are not the same thing.

I was a tad bit distracted by the non-American jargan but was able to power through because the story was sooooo freaking gripping. Word of warning...if reading this outside, be sure to warn the 4 year olds in the neighborhood. Little ears and all that.

3.5 Engrossing Stars!!!

Wow....talk about grabbing you and never letting go. This book read like one big unsolved mystery.

The prologue just sucks you right in. Bailey has a secret, a big one....and it tears her apart more and more every day--keeping it bottled up.

On the outside she has the perfect life--engaged to the kind, thoughtful, caring doctor Carron....she has a great job, a nice house in the mountains, caring friends. But she gave away her heart when she was 15 to a man that she can't be with, a man she calls Angel.

That's where the big mystery comes in....why can't she be with Angel? Who was this guy that stole her heart? What tore her and Angel apart? Despite the fact that they can't publically be together they continue to have "affairs" throughout the years....never being able to fight the connection they share.

The whole story builds and builds to finding out who Angel is, what he means to her and why they can't be together. When they both except that they can't fight the love they have for each other, tragedy strikes--threatening to reveal everything.

The author had me glued to the book all of the way up until the very last page. She makes you work for that HEA.

I would also have liked to have seen more regarding everyone's reaction once the "secret" was revealed. And also a look further in to the future.

Overall this was a very engrossing read and I honestly could not put the book down!

Quite honestly, I could not finish this book. I got about halfway through and I wanted to shoot myself. I wanted to like this book, so I trekked through as far as I could go, but while looking through reviews, I came across a spoiler of the ending, and threw my arms up in the air and said screw it.

I'm not surprised that the reviews for this book are either 1 or 4-5 stars. This is definitely not a book for everyone, and I'm one of the ones this book is not for. I'm a fairly open-minded person, but moral dictates that the ending of this book is just plain wrong. Not to mention completely disgusting.

The main reason I was so frustrated with this story is because Baily is cheating on a FANTASTIC fiance the entire time. Carron did NOT deserve the way he was being treated. He is a great man, and deserves a great woman. Instead, he was engaged to a woman that admitted often to herself that she didn't love him and constantly cheated on him.

The "AMG DARK SECRET" was mentioned SO MUCH, that after a short while, I stopped caring about it. It's completely overdone. Lots of books have dark secrets, but they're not mentioned as a dark secret every five pages. It was like the author was trying too hard to build suspense, instead of letting it build up naturally.

This book is definitely not for everyone. I'm not knocking anyone that does like it, it's just definitely not for me.

3,5 maybe 4 or is it 2 Stars?

I don't know..

O.K. It all started nicely.. We knew there was a twist and a secret.. Maybe many secrets.. And many more twists.. But still..
I was like that.. La lalalalala..

And then...

I was like that..

I will not say a thing about what happens..

THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS BOOK
-I liked Carron
-Angel was a bit distant, we don't know much about him
-Bails wasn't a character to like but surprisingly enough i didn't hate her
-The twist was a twist
-I will give it 3,5 Stars because it had some good moments and i felt anxious on many points and i always like books that stear feelings from me.
-I felt ill at some points.
-And i SCREAMED a big WTF IS GOING ON..

This book is MIND-BLOWING!!! I want to say SO much but I don't want to give anything away. I started this amazing novel just 4 hours ago!! Yes you read that right I.COULD.NOT.PUT.IT.DOWN!!! When dose living a lie become to hard?
This is a book with a twist so huge I doubt ANYONE will see it. It bitch-slapped me in the face and I LOVED every second of it!! I can't beg you enough to read this book. You won't be sorry! The dynamics between these charterers is extraordinary!

Gotta admit I wasn't a fan of this book. The way she treated carron was so damn cruel. I couldn't find a place where I could even like her. That was difficult. I couldn't find one redeeming quality in her. Once the big reveal was out, the story seemed to conclude. I needed more. There was glimpses into the past with her and Angel but it wasn't enough. We got very little of angel. After the reveal i was left wondering, what the hell?? What did everyone think? How do they feel? How will this affect everyone? Because come on, those are some valid questions and some huge hurdles to overcome. But I didn't get any of those answered so I just didn't care for this overall. Bummer.

***I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ***

On the surface, Bailey Michaels has a good life she is engaged to Carron. Bailey loves Carron, but she is not in love with him, she can never fully give herself to him because her heart belongs to someone else and that someone else is her first love Angel. Bailey and Angel’s love is intense; they share a secret, one that is keeping them from being fully together.

'We all have secrets. Some are just buried deeper than others. But they're there - hidden deep within. Mine I bury in that little red box people call a heart. Sometimes I wonder if I have a heart at all, for if I did I surely wouldn't do the things I've done'~ Bailey

I don’t know what to say about Bailey, there was something about her, and I liked her, and I know that maybe I shouldn’t have, she has this great guy in Carron, but she is not honest with him, and she lies to him so that she can spend snippets of time with Angel, I didn’t agree with some her choices, but as the story progressed, in some ways I could understand them.

"Hi, my name's Bailey Michaels and I'm a sucker for punishment. The thing is, though, I don't want normal. I only want him. No, that's not even right. I need him, I need Angel."~ Bailey

Angel is such a mystery throughout this book definitely an alpha male; my theories about whom he was were all over the place. It’s obvious that his feelings for Bailey are powerful and passionate. But I was annoyed with some of his actions; because these played such a big part on the actions and choices of Bailey.

‘Shit, Bails. I may think our relationship is wrong, but I know you are absolutely perfect for me. There isn’t a single woman on this earth who holds my eye the way you do.’~ Angel

I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Carron he truly loves Bailey. He gives her everything what any woman would want, security, love and friendship. I think deep down he knew that she wasn’t entirely in love with him, but the was such a sweet guy the never question it. He just wanted her to be happy; his choice at the end did surprise me.

I enjoy this storyline, it's definitely not your typical love story. I won't say much about it, as it would give away too many spoilers. It had suspense, angst, a love triangle, some sexy scenes, parts I loved and parts that were frustrating. I didn’t work out the secret, and why couldn’t they be together, many things came to mind but not that one. It was such a twist to say I was shocked, and gob smack would be an understatement (just ask my sister) I had to go back and re-read it.

As I read the rest of the book my emotions were all over the place, I just did not what was going to happen, I had so many questions, and for the first time I didn’t know if I want to read the epilogue, it was that serious. I’m glad I did, I like it, but I was still left with questions, which I think could have been answered had the book been longer.

Overall I enjoy S. Pratt’s book, It was told in such a way that I couldn’t put it down, it pulled me in, mainly because I wanted to know what the big secret was. There is a novella out called Ruining Angel; this is Angel's point of view. I have just 1-clicked it. I’m going to read next as want to know his story, and what he is thinking.

Okay so let me first say, I need to wash out my eyes...like right now. I get that Bailey is a cheater-whore but that really didn't bother me as much as I thought it would...lets just say the twist made me forget about pretty much everything else. In all the creepy factor is the only thing keeping this from being 4 stars. I have read some strange things - this takes the freaking cake.

So Bailey has the perfect man, Carron is the dream guy for most girls - he is kind, loving, doesn't push her to open up about her past and he is a doctor. But Bailey is love with a different man, Angel. A man that she will lie and cheat to be with. But there is something that makes it impossible for them to be together. There are flashes to her past that give you an insight into just who this Angel character is...but you get tidbits that lead to you a few different conclusions until BAM you find out. Wow. That was an unexpected twist and really just not right.

I have looked past book heroes that lie, cheat, beat their way through books...but this just sort of freaked me out and I am just not sure if I am okay with this at all...

I am glad I read it, the reviews nearly kept me from doing it. But the story itself was well written and really did have one hell of a twist that kept you interested the whole time. That twist just...um...totally gross...

It's taboo. A love affair that shouldn't be. But both are powerless to stop it. It has transcended across time. People would be hurt if they were found out. The town would talk. They're love must be kept secret. It must end.

Ruined hooked me from the start. I seriously could not put it down. I was torn about my feelings on this mainly because the main character, Bailey Michaels, was having this secret affair. She could not quit her lover. She craved him, needed him. Her heart and soul belonged to this secret man. She tried living a normal life to the point where she gets engaged to another man. But her fiancé will never do. He's not her Angel.

As I progressed in the book I then became torn between the two men in Bailey's life. I felt so bad for her fiancé because you can clearly see he's a good man and he's giving her all of himself knowing she's holding back. But at the same time I see her relationship with Angel and I can feel the burning love and passion between them.

S. Pratt doesn't reveal to us readers who Angel is till towards the end. I kept making guesses as to who he could be for their affair to be such a no no. I was blown away and never saw his identity coming. Bravo Ms. Pratt for such talented story weaving. Bra-Freaking-Vo! I was excited to learn there's a sequel, told from Angel's POV. Once I reached the end of the book I wanted more. I needed more. I'm looking forward to reading Angel's story.

This rating is mainly due to lack of anything real happening through much of the book. There's no in-depth character examinations and not much dialogue. It's too much exposition about the mundane details of living Bailey's life, when she's sitting on the tip of this massive iceberg. We need to feel that tension build, to feel Bailey rocking and holding on precariously to that bit of ice sticking up out of the water.

But stick with story, because between 78-82% there are several rapid-fire twists that propel the reader through the rest of the book.

I noticed there is a recently released follow up novella titled Ruining Angel that I plan on checking out. It will be interesting to read his POV.

Actually, this might have been a good book to use alternating POVs. I think it would have helped to channel the plot points and we readers might have felt more compassion for both H/h and the tide of emotion they each fight to hold back.

One final thing, I'm so, so bummed that I "accidentally" read a Spoiler in another GR member's review and it seriously compromised the plot.

So don't peek peeps! It nearly RUINED the story for me.

Here we have the story of a forbidden love and for the most part it did work well.

Bailey has been in love with Angel since she was a teenager, at the very start I believed that Angel was a possibly a teacher hence the whole forbidden angle. She is living a lie with her fiance Carron (who by the way is a complete sweetheart, who loves Bailey completely). Meanwhile Bailey still sees Carron on and off and to my own mind just strings Carron along.

Now Where the book got marked down in my opinion is just how Baileys character is portrayed, she is a complete egoistical nightmare. She is so self-centered she can't bring herself to just be on her own, she needs someone to ease the lonliness.
