I really wanted to rate this 5 stars!! We have so many feelings in this, Sicarius feelings! He admits it and tells Amaranthe to come to him when she is feeling well. Eeeeeeeee. And Amaranthe also tells Sicarius she loves him
But this was missing 2 things for me
1. I really REALLY wanted a "who did this to you???" moment. Sicarius and Amaranthe are reunited, he takes care of her, bandages her wounds, and carries her. There is sympathy/pity in his eyes, and then his admission that he refuses to give her up in the cave(omg!!!!). But I really wanted more of a show of emotion from sicarius, which I know is impossible and everything that Sicarius is not. But I just wanted a tiny bit more feral anger. A kiss or something ugh!
2. Also, after the cave proclamation(Sicarius says- you're mine, I'm not letting you go basically) I really wanted him to make some kind of gesture toward Amaranthe in front of the others to stake his claim. I know why he didn't - Sespian and his feelings toward Amaranthe🙄. But I wanted a hand touch, or a closeness in the cave thing when they were spying on forge. I love that Amaranthe stood in front of Sicarius to stop Sespian from shooting. That would have been the perfect time for Sicarius to touch her shoulder, or her hand, or something oooomg just give me something!
Also I loved this book and it was one of my favorites so far. The alternating chapters between Maldynados POV and Amaranthes was K I L L I N G me. It had me on the edge of my seat. My mind was like "Ok, here it is. They are about to be reunited and it's going to be glorious" and then BAM Maldynado lol
Also, let me share with you these amazing quotes that made me giggle
“I love you, Sicarius.” Odd how saying things like that to him made her feel more vulnerable than lying naked beneath Pike’s knife had. “You’re stuck with me,” she added doggedly.
“I had already decided that while I was coming to find you.”
Amaranthe watched him through her lashes, wary but hopeful as well. “That… you’re stuck with me?”
Sicarius’s eyes were half-lidded as he gazed back at her. “That I was unwilling to let someone else have you.” The blunt statement sent a little shiver through her. The words, “It’s about time,” floated through the back of her mind, but the intensity of Sicarius’s eyes squashed any inklings of flippancy.
“All right,” she whispered.
“When you have recovered, and you are ready, come to me. I’ll be waiting.”
OMG I AM DYING
AND ALSO
“After the crash, you had to choose whether to come after me or help Sespian.”
“Yes.”
“Thank you. I… wasn’t expecting it. I mean, I understand that Sespian must be your priority.” Amaranthe cleared her throat. She hoped she wasn’t insulting him, but she hadn’t believed he’d trust the group with Sespian’s care.
“You are both priorities.”
