Holly Webb is one of Britain's best-loved children's writers. She has written over a hundred books for children, and her work has been translated into over thirty languages. Holly lives in Tilehurst, just outside of Reading, Berkshire, with her husband, three children and several cats.
This book reminds me of my two Beagles that had died in 2013-2014. This book talks a lot about how the dog and its owner connects and I really love how all those stories end. I thought that this book was really cute and it was an amazing book. I have read this book half way before, but I never knew how good it was until now.
To było dosłownie powrót to jednej z pierwszych książek, które czytałam. Bardzo fajnie mi się do tego wróciło i fajnie czytać komuś młodszemu coś, co czytałam jak byłam młodsza
Such a cute story for kids, boys and girls alike! Perfect for classrooms, families, and independent reading, I think the story was suited appropriately for it’s targeted ages of 2nd-3rd graders. Scholastic says on the back of the book that it is 3rd grade reading level and I agree with that. Unfortunately, this book is said by Scholastic (in the cover) that it is only offered to schools, so you would need to purchase it used through Thriftbooks, EBay, Amazon, or your local used bookstore to find a copy. I enjoyed how it was a gentle introduction to the life cycle of how puppies grow and their characteristics, such as when their eyes open.
the puppy was so cute and if you look at bitsy at the being she so small and if you look at bitsy at the end she is so big. by the way bitsy is a beagle.
Lauren is super excited when her dog Bella gives birth to a litter of not one, not two, not five, but ten puppies! But one of the pups isn’t as strong as the rest of the litter. Little Lucy is the runt, she is so weak compared to the others that she can’t feed from Bella properly. Lauren’s parents keep warning her that the little puppy isn’t likely to survive, but when Lauren finds Lucy tucked away in a corner, she knows that she can’t let her die, so her family hand rears the puppy. But when Lucy is old enough to leave Bella, Lauren doesn’t think she can say goodbye.
This is an incredibly cute story with a good lesson. It shows what determination really means and shows that if you give others a chance, you may have a lot more fun with them than you think, while also showing just how bonded a person and pet can really be. If you are love dogs, or have kids who are obsessed with animals and are looking for a cute story with a good lesson this will be the one for you.
This is a well written novel for emerging readers. My 9 year old loved it. It’s a story about a family that has a dog who has puppies. I do wish this book addressed some of the issues that came up though: -It talks about the family feeling unprepared to have the puppies. It talks about reading some books beforehand, but doesn’t say anything about what the family could have done differently to better prepare themselves. -The kids created an elaborate scheme instead of just talking to their parents. -The result of the kids hiding from their parents with the dogs, and lying to potential puppy buys, was that they get to keep the puppy they were originally told they couldn’t have. I wish the author talked about how those behaviors weren’t okay and how the kids could have gone about it differently.

It’s a cute story about puppies. I liked it. There was one little special puppy which seemed to be the weaker than others, and the girl went through different emotions towards the pup, from anxiety, fear, the saudade toward your beloved pet. Although the story was very short, it managed to wrap up beautifully the chains of events, basically untie the knots, and lead to a beautiful end for all. I’m not quite satisfied with the ending, but this is a children’s book, so it’s okay I guess.
This is a nice book. It covers the basics about puppy care and development, and touches on the emotions experienced by those in the family and their circle.
Pamiętam tę serię z czasów, kiedy zaczynałam czytać. Teraz przeczytałam ją z moją Luną obok. Tak, to książka dla dzieci, a audiobook strasznie mnie denerwował, ale kocham pieski.
Cordelia recently bought a whole stack of these Holly Webb books from Scholastic, so I thought I should read one with her. I was pretty skeptical of it because they're packaged as easy readers (I'm always skeptical of easy readers, perhaps unfairly), but I'm actually enjoying it. The vocabulary is great, the story is good, the characters are interesting.
Holly Webb is English, and the editors did a pretty good job of Americanizing the book, but I am enjoying catching little Englishisms they missed. (The edition I'm reading is called "Lucy the Littlest Puppy", of course -- no-one says "poorly" over here.)
I'm glad to see Holly Webb has written about a thousand books -- I'm so pleased that Cordelia is finally excited about reading, and getting through Webb's oeuvre will give her lots of practice and launch her on her way to being a confident reader.
A great book for children about the worry and reality of having a litter of pups in the family home. Holly Webb really taps into the emotions of a child worried about the survival of a poorly pup, and offers practical information about what one needs to do to care for new pups, particularly ones that may be floundering. There are issues about attachment, and showing responsibilty; themes about friendship and trust; give and take; showing dedication; about being realistic, and some great themes concerning problem solving. The author does a great job in translating this very domestic issue. Animal loving children aged 6-10 will love this book.
