Dirk Cooper is the dollar store version of Constantine... if he was born only yesterday and knows nothing about the world around him including how to eat.
See, I was puzzled by this book. Don't get me wrong the first ones wasn't good but whatever, this one however, was something else.
It had the same issues the author's previous works did. Fragmented sentences that tended to meander midway and lose the point. A very odd writing style that didn't really make sense. Redundant sentences that kept trying to explaining that water is wet and so on.
Here however that is ALL the book as to offer. There is no plot, there is no character, there is no sense regarding the references or time frame.
Numa Numa, which is a meme from 2005 is referenced in the same paragraph as baby shark... which peaked in 2020. Which is it? Because I'd believe someone in 2005 might not be familiar with youtube and memes, I don't buy it in 2020 though... or that he would be looking for a payphone in either year for obvious reasons.
Then I figured it out!!!

So good!
What started out as a funny, engaging paranormal adventure story turned out to have depth and great characters all without compromising the former. I love this series and hope there will be many more books in this series. The characters, all of them, are fleshed out and so much better than I expected. I love this author's writing and can't wait to read more.

Even better than the first book. This series took a surprising turn. Instead of dancing around MC's issues like most books we get this Gem. I'm left satisfied but with even more questions. I must know what happens now after all of that. Will probably binge-read third when it comes out.

Not quite as good as the first, but it's a really good continuation of the story. I found myself really getting to like the main villain as it goes and... well lets just say this series has a thing for wild endings.

Absolutely amazing! Such a fun read. Love the characters and the banter between Dirk and everyone else. I really enjoyed this one...hope the series will continue.

I like this one better than the first. It was funny. I glad Cookie made a return appearance and I like how the author expanded on Dirk's powers and capabilities. I listened this this and I was laughing out loud for a lot of the book during my commute. I'm glad I bought this series and will listen to it again.
