History Upside Down: The Roots of Palestinian Fascism and the Myth of Israeli Aggression

Rate this book
In the United Nations, on university campuses, and among a growing number of our most prestigious Western newspapers, the historical record has been rewritten so thoroughly that Israel is seen as the worst of the oppressive Western occupiers of the Third World. So successful has this propaganda campaign been that Palestinian spinmeisters and their apologists have effectively declared the Israelis, a people living in the shadow of the Holocaust, to be Nazis. How could this happen? How did unacceptable anti-Semitism morph into justifiable anti-Zionism, and odious Jew-hatred turn into a politically correct Israel-hatred? In History Upside Down, David Meir-Levi exposes the ideological DNA of Palestinian nationalism and its ludicrous alternative histories, revealing how Nazi fascism gave the Arab world's amorphous hatred of the Jews an intellectual structure and how Soviet communism masked its genocidal intentions with the mantle of national liberation. Meir-Levi then explodes the cornerstone myths that the Palestinian movement created--myths that rationalize and celebrate decades of unremitting terror and genocidal ambitions, turning the history of the Middle East upside down and inside out, making the victim the aggressor and the aggressor the victim. History Upside Down is the first wave in a counterattack against this Arab war on history. It rejects the idea that the basic situation in the Middle East has changed since the United Nations first established the Jewish state and the Palestinian state that would have stood alongside it. Sadly, argues Meir-Levi, the issue in the Middle East is today what it has been since the Muslim invasion in the seventh century: the Arabs' hatred of the Jews.

In this short but highly instructive book David-Meir-Levi deals with the phenomenon of how the truth of history has been turned upside down by the Arabs/Muslims and their allies on the international left.
Historical revisionism of the worst kind has been so successful that at the United Nations, the world media and university campuses around the globe, Israel under genocidal attack since it's birth has been presented as a "Colonial oppressor", an "Apartheid State", "Racist" , "Fascist" and "Imperialist".
Israel, living in the shadow of the Holocaust have in a bizarre and sick twist of rhetoric and propaganda even been frequently branded as "Nazis".
The author "Arab propaganda under Communist tutelage transmuted the unacceptable anti-Semitism into justifiable anti-Zionism, and turned an odious Jew-hatred into a politically correct Israel-hatred".

Meir-Levi describes the machinations of of the Mufti Haj Amin Al Husseini, his instigation of and planning of the 1920, 1921, 1929 and 1936-1939 pogroms in which hundreds of Jews were butchered by Arab terrorists.
The author points out the extensive use of swastikas, portraits of Hitler and Nazi imagery during the 1936-1939 "Great Arab Revolt" of 1936-1939.
He traces Al Husseini's close collaboration with Hitler and Eichmann. Al Husseini was one of the originators of the systematic destruction of European Jewry and was a close associate, confidante and advisor to Eichmann. He organized the Bosnian Muslim SS Hanjar divisions that annihilated 90% of Bosnian Jews and persuaded the Axis powers to prevent any Jews leaving Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria , diverting hundreds of thousands of Jews to the death camps. Eichmann recounted "We have promised him (the mufti) that no European Jew would enter Palestine anymore."
A more detailed account of the history of the Mufti and Hitler can be found in The Nazi Connection to Islamic Terrorism: Adolf Hitler and Haj Amin al-Husseini.

During the 1961 Eichmann trial in Jerusalem, Hannah Arendt commented on the astounding degree of anti-Jewish venom and praise for Hitler in the Arab press together with regret that he "did not finish the job".
40 years later the state-controlled Egyptian daily Al Akhbar (April 18, 2001) declared "Our thanks to the late Hitler who wrought, in advance, the vengeance of the Palestinians upon the most despicable villains on the face of the earth. However we rebuke Hitler for the fact that the vengeance was insufficient".
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said of the Jews after the 2006 Lebanon War "If they gather in Israel it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide" and former Iranian President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani thundering his aims of a second holocaust and final solution declared "The use of nuclear bomb in Israel will leave nothing on the ground, whereas it will only damage the world of Islam."
The author describes how the PLO was a brainchild of the KGB working with Nasser, how the Vietnamese Communists and Romanian dictator Ceausescu persuaded Arafat to repackage his propaganda so that the Arab onslaught against Israel would be transformed in the world imagination as an anti-colonial struggle by the "oppressed Palestinians".
He outlines the support given by the Communist bloc to the Palestinian terror networks such as the PLO and PFLP, and the Arab campaign to drown Israel in blood.
The author carefully debunks the Arab hoax that "the Zionists stole our land", and reminds us how many times the Palestinians turned down the opportunity of obtaining a Palestinian State alongside Israel, as they were determined to destroy Israel and replace her with a Judenreihn "Palestine from the river to the sea".
In this they have been diabolically supported by the International Left.

Meir-Levi also outlines the truth about the much maligned security fence which has saved tens of thousands of Israeli lives and been dubbed by Israel's enemies as 'The Apartheid Wall".
Clearly the opponents of the barrier believe that Israeli lives are far less important than Palestinian inconvenience.
They also ignore the fact that many other countries have security barriers, some far more formidable than Israel's provisional fence.

The book traces how the evacuation by Israel of ten thousand Jews from Gaza and the handing over of Gaza over to full Palestinian control led to a renewed war by the Arabs of Gaza against Israel's people sending thousands of rockets into Israel with the aim of killing and maiming Israeli men, women and children.
Over 1800 Israelis (mainly women and children) have been killed since Arafat launched a war of terror against Israel's people in 2000, and thousands more maimed and injured.
The author finally points out that the incitement to genocide by the likes of Hezbollah's Nasrallah and Iran's Ahamdinejad may strip away the illusions of a struggle for Palestinian "liberation" and "national aspirations" and re-situate the Arab/Islamic Jihad against Israel with it's true roots- that of the Nazis and the Muslim Brotherhood.
If university departments had any interest in a true representation of the history and facts of the conflict, this would be a prescribed book, but unfortunately on most universities the aim is the opposite- venomous propaganda

First published in 2007, David Meir-Levi’s “History Upside Down: The Roots of Palestinian Fascism and the Myth of Israeli Aggression,” is an excellent book that concisely provides information on the topic. Nothing that the author wrote was surprising to me because I’ve studied Jewish, Israeli, and Middle Eastern history. One of my GR friends wrote an excellent review on this already (see review by Yalla Balagan), and it was spot-on, so I won’t re-review this book, only offer commentary.

This book can be summarized in one sentence: People refuse to investigate and fact-find. My brother’s divorce from his wacky ex-wife is a case in point. My brother’s lawyer went up to my mother (when my brother wasn’t nearby) and mentioned that the Jewish lawyer for his ex-wife told him that my brother (who had shaved his head because he was going bald) was a neo-Nazi—an accusation courtesy of my ex-sister-in-law. My mother was shocked, looked him in the eye, and said “My kids are part Jewish.” That wasn’t the first time that his ex-wife had said or done something antisemitic. But this one example shows you how people—and especially gentiles—use Judaism as a weapon.

This kind of crap has happened our entire lives. Jealousy, hate, or even just because some doesn’t like us means that, nine times out of ten, people pull the “Jew-hate card” on us. We are no more antisemitic than Herzl, but people stick to lies. By the time that real evidence is produced and we’re exonerated, it’s already too late; the damage has been done. The tactics that I’ve described above aren’t the same that Meir-Levi discuss in his book, but they’re eerily similar.

Eventually, the truth will out and maligners will pay the price for their deceit. My ex-sister-in-law that I discussed above? She ended up in a nursing home—even though she wasn’t mentally deficient—while she was still in her 40s, a permanent ward of the state. How is it that she ended up in a nursing home instead of state prison? For decades, she committed numerous crimes that anyone else would have been imprisoned for. Well, her father was the pastor of a very large and wealthy Christian congregation that included politicians among the flock. And he used both his spiritual and political connections to keep his daughter out of prison for over twenty years until, finally, she became a political liability, so they had her institutionalized in a nursing home.

All people—including Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, witches, and secular people—have the ability to choose evil or to be honorable. But when people like my brother’s ex-father-in-law, Hamas terrorists, and others use religion for their own purposes—to attack those they deem weaker than themselves—they fail to recognize that at that moment, their religious protections are nullified; the malek of destruction will destroy them, regardless of whether or not they believe it.

When my ex-sister-in-law was being institutionalized, her mother had the gall to call my brother and leave a message, pleading for his help. He never returned the call; the damage his ex-wife did was irreversible. And his ex-wife’s Jewish lawyer? He quit representing her. Those aren’t consequences, but the malek of destruction is. Facts are important.

The Middle East conflict has been subjected to one of the most systematic and cynical inversions of historical reality in modern times. Over the past half-century, a continuous propaganda campaign has succeeded in transforming an aggressive war aimed at annihilating a sovereign democratic state into a falsified narrative of an oppressive power persecuting a helpless indigenous population. David Meir-Levi’s History Upside Down dismantles this inverted script, demonstrating that since the seventh century, the fundamental catalyst of the conflict has never been borders, land, or statehood, but an uncompromising, religiously rooted hatred of the Jewish people and their state. Far from being a legitimate movement for national self-determination, the Palestinian national movement represents a unique phenomenon in world history: a cause whose defining operational paradigm is terrorism and whose sole reason for existence is the total destruction of a sovereign state and the genocide of its citizens. Grounded strictly in the historical record, Meir-Levi exposes the totalitarian lineage connecting European fascism, Soviet psychological warfare, and modern jihadism, alongside the manufactured myths designed to legitimise a century of rejectionism and violence.

The Ideological Godfather: Sayyid Qutb and Muhammad Qutb
The intellectual architecture of modern Islamic fascism rests primarily upon the foundational writings of Sayyid Qutb, the supreme ideologue of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood. Following his time studying in the United States between 1948 and 1950, Qutb developed a venomous hatred for Western secularism, individual liberty, and gender equality, describing American society as a shocking sewer of materialism, lust, and savage racism. In his seminal treatise, Our Struggle Against the Jews, Qutb absorbed Nazi doctrines to proclaim that Jews were responsible for all global moral decay, godless materialism, and societal depravity, framing them as the perpetual, existential enemies of Islam. Through influential works such as Milestones and In the Shade of the Koran, Qutb preached the violent overthrow of secular Arab regimes and the establishment of a global Islamic empire through uncompromising armed jihad. Following Qutb's execution by hanging in 1966, his brother, Muhammad Qutb, fled to Saudi Arabia, where he became a professor of Islamic studies and spent decades editing, publishing, and distributing Sayyid's radical writings throughout the Muslim world. In doing so, Muhammad Qutb directly tutored a new generation of extremists—including al-Qaeda co-founder Ayman al-Zawahiri—thereby transmitting his brother’s fascist theology into the core DNA of modern global terrorism.

Totalitarian Roots and the Synthesis of Islamofascism
Far from arising as an authentic movement for human rights, Palestinian nationalism developed through a direct fusion with the two dominant totalitarian ideologies of the twentieth century: Nazi fascism and Soviet communism. The organizational foundations were laid in 1928 with the establishment of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood by Hassan al-Banna, who explicitly modeled his movement's supremacism, anti-Semitism, and totalitarian ambitions after European fascism. Al-Banna’s doctrine anticipated Nazism in its demand for global conquest, its subordination of the individual to a central power, and its belief in liquidating nation-states in favor of a unified transnational community. The Brotherhood collaborated directly with Nazi Germany, translating Mein Kampf into Arabic as "My Jihad" and distributing anti-Semitic cartoons to portray Jews as demonic enemies of God.
The pivotal figure connecting European Nazism to the Palestinian cause was Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem. Appointed by British authorities despite inciting the 1919–1920 anti-Jewish riots, al-Husseini used his office to instigate the 1929 Hebron massacre and directed the 1936–1939 "Great Arab Revolt" using German funding, swastikas, and Hitler salutes. In 1941, al-Husseini fled to Berlin, met with Adolf Hitler, went on the Nazi payroll, and helped recruit the Bosnian Muslim Hanjar SS division, which murdered ninety percent of Bosnian Jewry. Broadcasting via Nazi radio from Zeesen, al-Husseini exhorted Arabs to "kill the Jews wherever you find them". He actively lobbied Axis governments to block Jewish escape routes to Palestine and drafted blueprints for a death camp modeled on Auschwitz to be built near Nablus for the extermination of Palestine's Jewish population.
Following the collapse of the Third Reich, the Palestinian movement was rescued from irrelevance by the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Under KGB tutelage, Yassir Arafat re-packaged an unacceptable genocidal anti-Semitism into a politically palatable, Marxist-style "national liberation movement" fighting "Western imperialism". Soviet strategists instructed Arafat to abandon slogans about "throwing Jews into the sea" and adopt Communist propaganda terminology such as "illegal occupation" and "national self-determination". This historical trajectory produced Islamofascism: a Hegelian synthesis blending Nazi anti-Semitism, Soviet anti-imperialist rhetoric, and Islamic fundamentalism.

Hamas: From Charity Front to Genocidal State
Formally established in December 1987 as the direct Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas (Haraqat al-Muqawama al-Islamiyah) represents the ultimate realization of Islamofascism. Its predecessor in Gaza, Al-Mujama' al-Islami, founded by the wheelchair-bound cleric Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, initially operated as an Islamic committee enforcing strict religious modesty and purging non-conforming Palestinians to prepare the population for holy war. Published in August 1988, the Hamas Covenant explicitly established that the group's objective is not a negotiated settlement, but an eschatological imperative to annihilate all Jews worldwide and obliterate the State of Israel.
To execute this agenda, Hamas established its military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Battalions, in 1991 and created a "Suicide Bomber Academy" in Gaza City. Between September 2000 and March 2004, Hamas carried out 425 attacks—including 52 suicide bombings—killing 377 Israelis and wounding over 1,600 others. While Arafat disavowed Hamas to Western audiences, thousands of official documents seized by Israel in 2002 from Arafat’s Ramallah compound proved that the Palestinian Authority actively funded, coordinated, and colluded with Yassin in a calculated "bad-cop/good-cop" terror strategy. Following its victory in the 2006 Palestinian elections and its violent 2007 fratricidal coup against Fatah in Gaza, Hamas transformed the Gaza Strip into a totalitarian, Shari'a-ruled enclave ("Hamastan") dedicated entirely to launching endless jihad.

How Arab Leadership Prevented Peace
The defining historical reality of the Arab-Israeli conflict is that at every critical juncture over the past eight decades, Jewish and Israeli leaders accepted compromise, while Arab leaders repeatedly and unconditionally rejected every offer of statehood and peace.
In 1937, the British Peel Commission proposed partitioning Mandatory Palestine into a Jewish state on a mere 15 percent of the land and an Arab state on 85 percent; Jewish leadership accepted the plan, but Arab leadership rejected it with renewed terrorism. On November 29, 1947, the United Nations passed Resolution 181 partitioning the land into two states; Jews celebrated, whereas five invading Arab armies launched a "war of destruction" to liquidate the newborn Jewish state. Following Israel's defensive victory in 1948, Israel offered at the 1949 Rhodes and Lausanne armistice conferences to return captured land and repatriate 100,000 refugees in exchange for peace treaties; Arab states refused, launching over 9,000 cross-border terror attacks instead.
Immediately after defending itself in the 1967 Six-Day War, the Israeli unity government offered to return the Golan Heights, Sinai, and the West Bank in exchange for peace treaties. The Arab response came at the August 1967 Khartoum Summit, where eight Arab heads of state declared their infamous "Three Noes": no peace, no recognition, and no negotiations with Israel. Subsequent peace initiatives met the exact same rejection: Arafat rejected the 1970 Rogers Plan; the Arab world rejected the 1979 Camp David invitation and the 1981 Saudi Fahd Plan; and local Palestinian leaders at the 1991 Madrid Conference refused independent action, deferring to Arafat in Tunis.
Under the 1993 Oslo Accords, Israel brought Arafat out of exile, handed over territorial control, and removed its military forces from major Palestinian cities. In return, the Palestinian Authority breached every signed obligation, expanded its armed forces threefold, weaponized school curricula to erase Israel from maps, and coordinated 28,000 terrorist attacks that killed 1,700 Israelis. In July 2000 at Camp David II, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and U.S. President Bill Clinton offered Arafat an independent state on 97 percent of the West Bank and Gaza, with its capital in East Jerusalem. As confirmed by Saudi Ambassador Prince Bandar bin Sultan—who warned Arafat that rejecting such an offer would be a crime against the Palestinian people—Arafat rejected the offer and initiated the violent Second Intifada. Furthermore, when Israel unilaterally disengaged from the Gaza Strip in August 2005—evacuating 9,000 Israeli citizens, destroying 17 communities, and leaving behind advanced agricultural infrastructure—the response was not peace, but thousands of rocket attacks launched by Hamas.

Demolishing the Propaganda Myths About Israel
To justify their continuous aggression, Palestinian leaders and their apologists constructed four foundational myths that invert historical fact.
Myth 1: "Zionists Stole Palestinian Land." Early Jewish pioneers legally purchased and developed uncultivated swamp and desert lands. The UN 181 partition plan allocated territory for an Arab state, but that state failed to emerge because the Arab nations invaded Israel. It was Egypt and Jordan—not Israel—that illegally occupied and annexed the West Bank and Gaza in 1948.
Myth 2: "Israel Caused the Refugee Problem Through Ethnic Cleansing." The Arab refugee crisis was caused entirely by the Arab invasion of 1948 and by Arab leaders urging and ordering the peasantry to flee so invading armies could operate freely. Fabricated claims of "massacres" at Deir Yassin were deliberately broadcast by Palestinian and Egyptian officials to spread panic and induce flight. While Arab states trapped Palestinian refugees in squalor as political hostages, Israel absorbed 850,000 to 900,000 Jewish refugees forcibly expelled from Arab nations.
Myth 3: "Israel's Presence in the West Bank is an Illegal Colonial Occupation." Israel acquired administrative authority over the West Bank and Gaza during a defensive war in 1967, giving it legal sovereignty under UN Resolution 242 until a permanent peace treaty is negotiated. Between 1967 and 1993 under Israeli administration, West Bank GDP grew 7 to 13 percent annually, infant mortality plummeted, seven universities were established, and the Arab population tripled. Additionally, Israel's security barrier is a legal, defensive measure that reduced suicide bombings by 90 percent.
Myth 4: "The Ancient Palestinian Nation." Historically, "Palestine" was a Roman geographical label derived from the Aegean Philistines, never a distinct sovereign state or nation. Prior to 1967, even Arafat used "Palestine" exclusively to refer to pre-1967 Israel, and the 1964 PLO Charter explicitly disclaimed sovereignty over the West Bank and Gaza. As Arafat admitted in his authorized biography, the concept of a distinct "Palestinian national identity" was manufactured ex nihilo during the Cold War purely as a strategic instrument to oppose Zionism.

October 7th and the Reality of Unilateral Concession
When David Meir-Levi published History Upside Down in 2007, he documented the immediate aftermath of Israel’s August 2005 unilateral disengagement from the Gaza Strip—which entailed the dismantling of 17 Israeli communities, the forcible relocation of over 9,000 Jewish citizens, and the leaving behind of millions of dollars in modern agricultural infrastructure. Through stark statistical evidence, Meir-Levi demonstrated that rather than fostering peace or a constructive Palestinian administration, the withdrawal directly incentivized Hamas, accelerating its totalitarian consolidation and transforming the enclave into an unyielding launchpad for escalated terrorism and war.
On October 7, 2023, Meir-Levi’s analysis received its most horrifying and absolute vindication. The genocidal pogrom executed by Hamas—marked by the systematic massacre, torture, rape, and kidnapping of over 1,200 innocent civilians—was not a desperate outburst of a suppressed population seeking statehood, but the deliberate execution of the Islamofascist doctrine documented throughout this book. It proved with catastrophic clarity that unilateral concessions to an ideology rooted in eschatological anti-Semitism do not yield peace; they merely grant total war a closer staging ground.

Israel on the Frontline of Civilization
Ultimately, History Upside Down proves beyond doubt that the Middle East conflict is not a localized real estate dispute, but a civilizational war waged by radical Islam against Western democracy. Strip away the manufactured propaganda and Cold War terminology, and the Palestinian cause reveals itself as the direct heir to Nazi fascism and Soviet totalitarianism. Standing as a resilient democracy surrounded by genocidal enemies, Israel remains the frontline state in the international defense of human freedom against Islamofascist terror.

David Meir-Levi digs straight into soil most readers assume settled decades ago, and pulls up roots still writhing under the surface. The title promises a conflict turned upside down, and every chapter provides fresh proof of the inversion.

Here, gravity gets reversed. Israel starts as David facing five armies in 1948, wins against staggering odds, then somehow ends up cast as Goliath by 1967, wearing the giant's armor for an audience eager to forget the identity of the original aggressor.

The genealogy Meir-Levi traces resembles a family tree grown from two poisoned grafts. Palestinian nationalism sprouted first from Nazi stock and second from Soviet cuttings, spliced together by gardeners with murder on their minds.

Haj Amin al-Husseini ימח שמו ושם זכרו, Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, plays chief horticulturist, cross-pollinating ancient Muslim Jew-hatred with fresh Reich material, then pleading with Hitler ימח שמו ושם זכרו for cuttings to plant across Palestine too.

A generation later, Moscow grafts on its own branch, training Arab militants at Patrice Lumumba University in the art of dressing genocide as liberation. By the time Arafat ימח שמו ושם זכרו inherits the orchard, the harvest is terror wrapped in the vocabulary of victimhood, and the fruit still poisons Western opinion pages today.

Meir-Levi builds his case from documented speeches, UN resolutions, and the Mufti's own correspondence with Berlin, letting primary sources do the heavy lifting instead of leaning on rhetoric.

The chapter on the 1948 land myth stands out for meticulous handling of the historical record.

The partition plan gave both peoples a path to statehood, Israel accepted it, and Arab states annexed the very land meant for a Palestinian nation, then blamed the theft on the Jews.

Turning history on its head becomes, page after page, the Palestinian movement's oldest and most durable tactic, older even than the term "Palestinian."

Meir-Levi packs the book with specifics instead of slogans, starting with Hassan al-Banna, son of a poor watchmaker in southern Egypt, founding the Muslim Brotherhood in 1928 as a modest youth club preaching moral reform. By 1938 that youth club had grown into a movement counting almost two hundred thousand members, with thirty-eight branches operating inside British Mandatory Palestine alone.

Haj Amin al-Husseini, Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, begged Hitler directly for help exterminating European Jewry, then pushed for the same fate to reach Palestine's Jews. Nazi officers, stripped of their uniforms after 1945, found fresh employment across Arab capitals, coaching the next generation in propaganda craft.

UN Security Council Resolution 181, passed in 1947, offered both peoples a path to statehood, and Israel accepted the offer on the spot. Egypt and Jordan annexed the very territory earmarked for a Palestinian nation instead of allowing that nation to exist. Egypt herded some 350,000 Palestinians into camps across Gaza, then shot anyone attempting escape.

Fedayeen squads, trained and armed by Egyptian intelligence, carried out over nine thousand attacks against Israel between 1949 and 1956, killing upward of six hundred people. Israel answered with an invasion of the Sinai in 1956.

Nasser, treating the Palestinian cause as an opportunity instead of a threat, partnered with Moscow in 1964 to midwife the Palestine Liberation Organization into being. The first PLO Council consisted of 422 delegates handpicked by the KGB, and Ahmad Shukairy, a KGB asset, became its founding chairman. The Palestinian National Charter, the movement's founding document, came drafted straight out of Moscow. Romania supplied PLO uniforms and stationery free of charge, according to former Romanian intelligence chief Ion Pacepa, and two cargo planes packed with Soviet-bloc supplies touched down in Beirut every single week.

Arab leaders gathered at Khartoum after the Six-Day War and voted to continue fighting Israel through what strategists later termed low-intensity conflict. Palestinian militants trained at Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow, absorbing Communist tactics alongside Marxist theory.

Sheikh Ahmed Yassin ימח שמו ושם זכרו founded Hamas as an offshoot of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, giving Gaza its own homegrown fundamentalist franchise. Arafat, exiled twelve years in Tunis, returned to Gaza in 1994 under the terms of the Oslo Accords.

Israel's Operation Defensive Shield in the spring of 2002 seized tens of thousands of letters from Arafat's fortified Muqat'a headquarters in Ramallah. Those letters, many carrying Arafat's own signature, exposed a leader funding Hamas terror operations while assuring Western diplomats he opposed such violence.

President Bush used the phrase Islamic fascism in a 2005 speech, and critics on the left erupted, even as Meir-Levi marshals evidence proving the label accurate down to its ideological roots.

Jordan annexed the West Bank outright and governed it under martial law for nineteen straight years.

King Farouk and later Gamal Abdel Nasser both cracked down hard on the Muslim Brotherhood inside Egypt, wary of the very movement Egyptian intelligence had helped export next door.

The National Liberation Army of Bolivia and the National Liberation Army of Colombia, KGB creations of the same era, offer a telling comparison for readers curious about the PLO's true parentage.

Every single one of these episodes traces back to primary documents, speeches, and testimony, giving the book its considerable weight and its lasting sting.

Zionism is a project of survival against overwhelming odds, and Meir-Levi treats that survival as something worth celebrating instead of apologizing for.

Readers hungry for roots, receipts, and a spirited defense of the Jewish return home will find plenty to dig into. This volume plants its flag firmly and dares the soil to argue back.

Five stars, and a standing ovation for anyone brave enough to turn the accepted script upside down and read what actually grew underneath.

He organized the Bosnian Muslim SS Hanjar divisions that annihilated 90% of Bosnian Jews and persuaded the Axis powers to prevent any Jews leaving Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria diverting hundreds of thousands of Jews to the death camps.

If university departments had any interest in a true representation of the history and facts of the conflict, this would be a prescribed book, but unfortunately on most universities the aim is the opposite- venomous propaganda.

This book should’ve really been called "they try to kill all jews and failed: for dummies".
It’s one of the clearest books I’ve read about "the conflict", short, to the point and fierce in its simplicity. It should be a mandatory read to anyone who even start to touch the subject.

Short book that’s literally just pro-Israel propaganda: no acknowledgement of contrasting facts, no high-level analysis, and not even any attempt at an interesting thesis or angle. Just a quick and embarrassing tour through all the standard pro-Israel arguments that doesn’t even pretend to engage with conflicting facts and narratives.

A must-read for all those who want to understand the lies told about the democratic State of Israel.

Example below:

MYTH: The fact that a majority of deaths are Palestinians, makes them the victim and Israel the aggressor.

FACT: "Aggressor" implies that Israel is somehow responsible for initiating the violence. In fact, the Palestinians have created the climate of violence.

A short book that fails to properly explain many claims and is lacking sources when they are most necessary. Unfortunately it only offers a one-sided view of history that is more propaganda than truth.

History Upside Down is a brief history of the Nazi and communist roots of Palestinian nationalism and the myth of Zionist colonialism and imperialism. These false narratives have been used to justify the many attempts to destroy the state of Israel since it's founding in 1948. The history of the various terrorist groups from the PLO to Hamas and Hezbollah are covered, as are the wars between Israel and her neighbors, and the failed accords that were intended to bring peace to the Middle East.

Although History Upside Down was published in 2007, it is more relevant than ever during the current conflict between Israel and Iran's proxies. This short book concisely presents the history of the causes of the Middle East conflicts. If you want to get up to speed in a hurry on the Israel-Hamas conflict, this book will get you there.
