Entering the cruel and sadistic world of millionaire Wesley Edwards, the man responsible for her sister's death, to find evidence of his guilt, Bernadette Kane soon finds herself plunged into a twisted game of perversion where she must fight for her life. Original.
I love, love, loved this book! After hearing about her sister's alleged suicide, Bernadette "Bernie" Kane insists she was murdered. With help from her long-time friend Eric, Bernie narrows in on the killer, the illusive and charismatic Wesley, CEO of Oar Research.
When Bernie accepts a position at his company, an evil web entangles her. The characters are full and real, the dialogue whip-smart and believable, the twists and turns make total sense...in retrospect...but you'll never see them coming. Like with all of Brooks' novels, I was immediately immersed in this story, and his expert skills kept me riveted till "The End."
As each layer is unveiled, Serpent's Dance gets more and more intense. I especially loved Diana and Damien, twisted lovers whose sexual trysts and deadly games added yet another intriguing layer to this suspenseful and taut thriller. I can't do this book justice in a review; you're going to have to read it for yourself. Serpent's Dance is roller coaster thrill ride of intrigue, betrayal, and deceit. Highly recommend.
As a reader, for me to decide to purchase the book really depends on the book jacket description. Serpent's Dance caught my attention because of the unique, somewhat-cryptic description at the back. However, after finishing it, I was a little bit disappointed. And, no, this has nothing to do with the writing or the plot, which were both very well-written.
The book jacket description is somewhat misleading. I don't think Bernadette Keane nor Wesley Edwards are the main characters, but rather "Damien" and "Diana." Bernie and Wesley are just means for them to execute their deeds.
The first two parts (it is a four-part novel) are somewhat blah, as the whole novel has a slow plot development, but the ending is just BAM, BAM, BAM! If Brooks made the pacing of the entire book like the ending, it would've been one of the best suspense-thrillers ever written.
Overall, it is a good read. You just have to be a little patient with the beginning. :)
I enjoyed this book but it seemed to drag in the middle with unnecessary slowness. This is a pyschological thriller with lots of characters. It takes a long time to draw all the characters together where you can figure out what is really going on. The only bizarre thing is the two lovers with very twisted sexual shenanigans. Definitely keeps you guessing to the very end. I'm not sure I'd read anything else by this author but it did have a satisfying conclusion.
this was an alright book - the sex was pretty graphic. the mind games played between the characters was well written and highly entertaining. in all, i think the whole submission / control angles were most interesting.
Wasn't too bad a read since the plot was good, but wasn't what I was expecting. Maybe the reviews I read on another site were all written by prudes, because it wasn't the sexy thriller most of them claimed it to be. A little blood and role play does not a sexy thriller make.
Good have given this novel a 4/5 since it is a good suspense novel. The story's captivating. But I just put it at 3 since it has several graphic parts.
