The Nodwick Chronicles, Vol. 1

Rate this book
This is the first volume of Nodwick's hilarious adventures with three of the world's most unprofessional heroes. Thrill to his being used as a grappling hook: Marvel as he helps to thwart evil and gets no credit! Gasp in awe that there's anything left of him for Piffany the Cleric to duct tape back together. -- This volume contains the first six issues of the comic book by Aaron Williams.

I love Nodwick so much, I have read all the comics available, and as a DnD player/fantasy lover this just speaks to me SO MUCH

I should probably have enjoyed this more than I did. I generally love silly D&D themed comics but this one never grabbed me. The joke got old after the first few times and then it was just "meh". I never fell in love with any of the characters. It was cleverly written but just wasn't for me.

I discovered the Nodwick chronicles back when I was reading a lot of webcomics like "Tech Support" and I think it might've been a suggested link. Who knows, it was back in the late 90's. I had never (and still have never) played D&D, but I instantly caught on to the humor thanks to a group of friends who did play, but who made it impossible to play with. I've still never seen a full campaign. Rereading it, you don't need to have ever actually played D&D, you could've played Final Fantasy or read a lot of David Eddings and you will catch on. Probably not even that much in this day and age.
Nodwick is a henchman without hap in company of three adventurers, Artax (magician), Yeagar (fighter), and Piffany (cleric). The stories are witty, and take occasional turns for the serious that keep the stories from becoming dry, though they do start a bit gimicky I admit. Pick it up and take an adventure of a lifetime! Exotic locations, and no resurrection fee!

This was such an original and fun work, I laughed out loud a few times. You don't have to be a D&D player to enjoy it, you just have to be familiar with fantasy tropes.

I found one or two of the stories to drag just a tad, but apart from that I don't have much to complain about. It's a black and white, but you don't lose the color because of the characters.

Fans of fantasy and humor should definitely pick this up. I can think of one or two people that would enjoy this as a gift. A fun, light read. My absolute favorite was a short in there, pulling the sword from the stone. Loved it!
