As an adult this was a very wholesome story. I really enjoyed this story of friendship between these three characters and the little chapter vignettes showcase little moments in their lives. This story reminded me of the “The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse. I would recommend if you want something to just unwind with it can easily be read in a single sitting. Buoy is always optimistic and genuinely wants to be loved by everyone while at the same time taking great pride in his purpose. Sea Gull is the opposite of Buoy usually augmentative throughout the different tales. Seal is like the mother of the trio and provides emotional support for the other characters. What makes this an amazing book for young readers is that creates a sense of wonder and about the sea from the green flash, whale songs, circle of life, and finding purpose in your duty; this book covers so much and provides answers that fuel the readers sense of wonder and imagination. A book that can be enjoyed by both adults and children.

I obviously read this a very long time ago in terms of my current age, but I read it again recently and it was still just as good as before, though I saw it through the eyes of my past as well as present. I don't know how such a strong thematic feel is elicited from a short 'childrens' book (it's probably the illustrations), but it is well worth the look. For what it is, I give it a thumbs up, give this to your kids who are learning to read/still incapable of reading, since it will make a good first impression into the world of literature.
