In a competition of win or lose, love was the one game they never saw coming.
Nate As a star football player at Las Vegas University, I'm used to getting what I want on and off the field.
But when I meet Kayla Sanchez, everything changes.
She’s passionate with a fire in her eyes and a commitment to help others. She’s also stubborn, opinionated and sexy AF. Despite our rivalry, there's an undeniable chemistry between us and with each steamy exchange, I want her more.
Kayla I've always stood up for what I believe in, even if it means going against the popular crowd. So, when the school threatens to shut down the student food pantry to build a new center for the football team, I fight back.
That's when I meet Nate Cooper, the charismatic football jock and campus heartthrob, who couldn't be more different from me.
Our disagreements are fiery and intense, and so are the sparks. I swore I’d never trust a man, but I can’t ignore the way Nate makes me feel.
Torn between my beliefs and desires, can I resist sleeping with the enemy?
College Fling is an enemies to lovers, new adult, college sports romance written in dual POV. It’s the first book in the Las Vegas U contemporary romance series and can be read as a standalone. This book contains a mix of sports, spice and heart and is intended for readers 18+
Wendy Avery is an Asian American author who writes steamy sports romance with all the feels.
She crafts passionate stories, where love blossoms in the most unexpected ways, taking you on an emotional roller coaster that will leave you breathless and falling in love with her characters.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Wendy escapes to Las Vegas to find inspiration for her next book and to play bingo at the casino. She loves basketball, Swedish candy and dreams of writing in a romantic country like Portugal or Spain.
The football team takes resources from the free food pantry at LVU. Will the hot football realise why it matters so much to her?
In the book "College Fling" by Wendy Avery, we are put into the lives of the handsome and best wide receiver in the country, Nate and the philanthropist that keeps the students at LVU fed, Kayla. At the beginning of the book, we see DJ Kayla in her moment, at one of the biggest parties of the year. When the person who hired her doesn't give her the money she rightfully deserves, We meet Nate. At the beginning of the party, he notices her in her booth and can't look away. So when Kayla needs help he is there to save her, aka get her money.
As a first-generation college student, we see how this impacts Kayla, and how yet she will do everything she can to help others. We see the struggles of how her past is still affecting her and also see how class is a factor in her life. Nate struggles with the idea that he may not be as great as he once believed himself to be. Also facing the fact of his privilege.
I truly enjoyed this book, and how it touched on subjects such as why football gets so much money and how a food pantry isn't even on the university radar. While both characters made me mad at their closed-mindest, I believe without it, the book wouldn't have been the same. Kayla is a strong woman who fights for what's right, and I truly appreciate how she is written. She knows her own worth and doesn't bend on her morals for Nate, (which I don't get to read about a lot.) Nate is your average jock and honestly, you can tell has never been challenged on his opinions before, which is another thing I enjoyed. It was written in a realistic way for him to come to terms with it.
Overall, it's quite a nice read, while their drama isn't the most grabbing, the issues they talk about are. I would have liked to have seen both characters realise they were in the wrong as well and worked it out more, but it's a good book.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
So I almost DNF'ed this book.
I liked the concept but I don't think the author's execution was the best.
Firstly, the dialogue kind of annoyed me with things like "it was lit" and "I'm so jacked we are hanging out" . I found it a bit frustrating and the characters came across as kind of immature (I know they are like 22 and young but it was annoying).
There were also times when I could see what the author was trying to do but it didn't quite hit the spot for me. Certain scenarios just felt random and out of place or rushed and unrealistic.
The main female character felt a bit all over the place to me as well. One second she says they won't work and are too different and the next she is really into him and blowing kisses and stuff then goes back to saying they won't work.
The story itself was great though and overall was an okay quick read but I definitely think it could have been better.
I am interested in Tanner's story but don't know if I will read it if the writing and dialogue is similar to this book.
This book is one of my favorite books this year! I connected so much to this story as being a Las Vegas local who was born and raised here. I felt connected so much through the story and details Avery described exactly how this city is. Growing up in Vegas and going to college here I recognized a lot of the locations, and the university even reminded me of the college I went to here. Which is something that some authors miss when they write stories about Vegas, they miss the accuracy of the city and only write about the Vegas strip, but Avery was able to detail our city in the most perfect way.
I related so much to Kayla and her story as being a Mexican American who deals with some of the similar struggles as the brave FMC. Nate is every girl’s dream heartthrob, and I can understand why Kayla fell for him hard (I mean it’s not hard to fall for the muscular good looking football player 😉).
This book had everything I look for in a sports romance novel. It had the perfect amount of spice, great plot, conflicts, resolutions, plot twists, moments that made me cry and moments that made me love. I honestly don’t know much about American football so I want to thank Avery for describing the football games in the book with incredible detail that even a kindergartener would be able to understand the sport 😂 I enjoyed reading this book so much I never wanted it to end. But alas all good things must come to an end. This book had some of my favorite tropes and I loved everything about this book I could not say one bad thing about it. I could not put this book down!
I am going to recommend this book to all my Vegas book girlies and to all my bookish friends period! I can’t wait for College Mistake! I want to thank Wendy for sending me a personalized signed copy of College Fling. I’m going to cherish this book forever in my heart ♥️🥺
A debut novel from Wendy Avery is not just a fling. It's a solid story of two young people coming from two opposite words.
Her, Kyla, being a Latina, proud of her origin, strong and confident. She's a senior at LVU and does a great job as a volunteer at the food pantry for students. Her side hobby is DJing at the students' parties.
Him, Nate, is a hotshot of a football player, the best in the country and heading for the championship with his team. He's driven by his passion, loyal to his team and he will do everything to win the trophy. Well, at least that's what he thinks until he meets Kyla at the party.
These two feel the sparks and physical attraction from the first moment. Despite being total opposites, they fall for their appeal and begin dating.
I loved how their relationship progressed and flourished. Kyla was always independent and took a great care of herself alone, she swore to never trust a man and relay on his help. When she starts a relationship with Nate, she surprises herself how easy and quickly she fell under his spell and how loved and cherished she feels. Nate is charmed by Kyla's personality, her strong and confident demeanor and the empathy she feels toward other people. He's in awe of her social work for the student community and her behaviour is an initial spark that will make a huge change in Nate in the future.
'College Fling' is an enemies to lovers college romance with an engaging storyline, two strong and independent leads and a perfect mix of romance, drama and passion those two share for each other.
I thought this was such a fun book to read. Kayla and Nate have quite the steamy romance. It was so much fun reading their banter with each other and I couldn’t help but to giggle my way through this book. These two had to overcome so much to get to their HEA and I can’t wait to need the next book in this series.
I received a free advanced reader copy and am voluntarily leaving my fair and honest review.
Kayla is a n amazing FMC, she is Latina and the first in her family to attend college. Kayla believes in giving back to those in need, oh and she is a phenomenal DJ. Then there’s Nate that the College’s star for all player- smoking hot, but is really a nice humble guy underneath it all. It’s the College’s free food pantry v’s the Colleges new state if the art football training facility. It breaks out in war and lots of misunderstandings. These two are complete opposites but they seem to bring out the best in each other. Love their chemistry, the sexual tension between them sparks 🔥. The steamy scenes were sweet and also hot AF. Loved their relationship journey, it was extremely bumpy but also perfectly written. The bonus epilogue was a definite must read. Overall a fantastic book. Also loved the sneak peak at Tanner’ book - definitely added to my tbr list for list release 😊
I could not put this book down! I started it last night and finished it this morning. What a page turner it was!
First, I loved Kayla and how much she gives back to the community and that the food bank was discussed. I’ve read many books and have never seen that mentioned before. It was nice because the topic isn’t discussed much. I’ve used food banks in the past and I’ve worked with them. She’s a great FMC and so passionate and stands up for what she believes in and those around her.
With Nate being a football player, I enjoyed reading about him and how he was serious so fast about Kayla. Sport players often at times are known for the cliché things like partying, girls and doing whatever they want. Nate was more of a regular guy and I enjoyed watching how Kayla added more to his life.
Watching them support and stand up for each other during the book was powerful. The bonus epilogue was my favorite and I can’t wait to read the next part of Tanner and Vanessa's story. I know that’s going to be fun with Vanessa’s sass!
If you love college romances, this series definitely had to be added to your TBR! Thank you Wendy for the ARC copy.
I struggled reading this book. The concept was ok, but the execution wasn't the greatest.
The dialogue was not so great, some words or slang were like a cheap californian tv show. Something like foreigners imagine how American people speak.
The characters were not so well developed. I felt like in each chapter one character had an idea or a thought or a convinction that was overthrown in the following chapters without a solid basis. For example, the FMC was a bit all over the place, she says she won't do something like falling for the guy, the next chapter, in the boy's pov, she's all over him and then again, in her own pov, she changes her mind, again.
Also, certain scenarios just felt unrealistic.
The story was not that bad, I was more interested with the backstory and the food pantry development than the the main plot. Also, it was enemies to lovers... which lasted like 5 seconds. I enjoy reading a bit more struggle when the characters feel attracted to each other but not wanting to give in.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I devoured this book in one afternoon, I couldn't put it down. This wasn't your typical college sports romance, and I absolutely loved it! The conflicts and the way these two came together for one another was marvelous.
tropes: opposites attract, enemies to lovers, sports romance, college romance, interracial romance, he falls first, slow burn, dual POV
Kayla is a kickass FMC, she is finishing up her senior year at LVU (on scholarship), she is a volunteer at the food pantry for students, she is working to provide for herself and help her mother. Nate is a star football player whose parents pay for his apartment and bought his car.
Nate and Kayla meet at a party where she is the DJ. Afterwards, Nate does everything he can to become friends with Kayla.
Can Kayla let Nate be there for her? Can she rely on someone else? Do opposites really attract?
Looking forward to reading Tanner and Vanessa's story next, in College Mistake!!
Thanks to the author, BookSirens and the publisher for an ARC of this book.
I wasn’t a huge fan of this one and almost DNFd multiple times.
I know the characters are young, but the way they talked drove me insane and they were so back and forth on their emotions. One sentence Kayla would be stating how she won’t be falling for any guy, but the next paragraph she is straddling and kissing Nate just because he helped move some boxes. There was very little character development and their whole relationship felt so awkward to me.
It’s a bit of a stretch to call this one an enemies to lovers romance as that part of the story lasted maybe a chapter or two. I’m also a bit annoyed that we never really got a resolution to one of the main plot points of the book.
I will not be continuing this series.
⭐️⭐️.5 🔥

I absolutely loved this enemies to lovers book! College Fling was an easy and quick read. i couldn’t put it down! Finished it in a few hrs. I love sport romance books and this one was right up my alley. Thank you sooo much Wendy Avery for the ARC!
Nate is LVUs start football player and Kayla is the Dr Martens wearing DJ. Nate is not the relationship type but Kayla changes that for him. They come from two complete different backgrounds. I loved their story. Such good characters. I also loved Vanessa and Tanner. Spice level is at about a 3. Slow burn but in a good way. I highly recommend this book!! Can not wait for College Mistake!
This story is a fun read about important things facing our society, with a healthy dose of college football! Kayla is a Latina lead who has struggled with food insecurity and uses the passion she gained through that experience to guide her through college. Nate is a privileged football star who is drawn into this strong-willed and empowered FMC. Together they work through trust, privilege, and love in a way that is both touching and lighthearted. I want to thank Wendy Avery for letting me be part of the ARC team for this book!
I loved this book honestly Noah melted my heart. Kayla is a Dj but has a passion and strong drive to help the pantry which helps stuggljng students access food! This story had me gripped and there is some spice but to be honest I’d have loved it even without the spice as the story was so unique and different from most football books I’ve read! Kayla is strong and stands up for what she believes in, she’s independent. Noah is a star on his football team but when he sees Kayla at a party DJing he knows she’s the girl for him. He falls fast and she does too but is more reserved and has doubts (though you know she can’t resist him)
I did struggle with them glossing over the fights they had. He said some things that given Kaylas personality I thought she’d want him to apologise for or at least give him a hard time over. I did feel for Noah when Kayla had to think about helping him he didn’t think twice about helping her so I did feel for him there.
Ultimately this book is so good a unique story and amazing strong characters! I can’t wait for the next book 😊

An interesting book and if college life and enemies to lovers is your thing the this is definitely the book for you. I would of liked a bit more time in the enemies zone but that's just me. It's about college life, but good to read about the food pantry and how it operates as this is a very real thing especially at this moment in time. I love the way it seems that the sports jocks get everything and to hell with the poorer struggling students. I don't give spoilers but as this is enemies to lovers trope you know really what's going to happen. The sex scenes are quite spicy so just a word of warning of you are sensitive to this as there are four or so very hot scenarios. Definitely 18+. A good book, even though the ending is predictable, some great characters and some moral conscience probing too. I was given a copy of this book by voracious readers only for an honest review. I always give an honest review.
College Fling was a quick, simple read with enjoyable characters.
Not a lot of people touch on the topic that the author, Wendy, did. She showcased how sports take a lot of the money from schools and other things, like a food pantry get put on the back burner...or in this case it gets shut down without a thought.
I enjoyed the characters and their personalities, but what I didn't enjoy was the "insta-love." I felt like the enemies-to-lovers went to just lovers so rapidly. Nate seemed absolutely in love with Kayla when reading his POV and it seemed quite odd how fast his feelings came about. Not only were the feelings quick, but they evolved instantly.
Yes, this book is a quick read, but I think the author could have added a few more pages into the mix to add to the story. The drama was there, but it was fixed too easily.

I received this book as arc member . I give my thoughts of my own free will. Nate a foot ball player doesn’t have to worry about money for food or bills . Kayla a Latina women who DJs and has to worry about money bills and food with her mom. Nate meets her at a party and instant connection but she isn’t letting him break her heart or get close way her dad did ( daddy issues ) . Kayla volunteer at food center to make sure others get food and things they need . Nate is impressed by her . Kayla has to fight for it the college only cares about football . Can the difference keep these apart or will it work ? Read it loved it .
This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. I am a big fan of sports romance novels, especially if they based in a college setting. The two main characters, Nate & Kayla clash right from the start. But their attraction to each other keeps them coming back together. So many ups and downs for the pair, and I honestly didn’t think they could make it as a couple. But regardless of this part of the storyline, these two always have each other’s back and they finally make it back to each other. I’m excited to see at the end of this book that Tanner’s story will be next and I will definitely be wanting to read that!!
I received an ARC through BookSirens and I'm leaving this review voluntarily.
I'm a big sports romance lovers and when it's an enemies to lovers?? I'm all for it. I wish there was a bit more "enemies" to it.. it honestly felt like the fmc fell into things with the mmc very quickly, and the fmc was feisty so I know she had it in her to fight more.
I absolutely loved that Kayla is a Latina (that's what I am) and I was all for it.
If you love the listed tropes below you'll love this!
🩷 Opposites Attract 🩷 Sports Romance 🩷 Enemies to Lovers 🩷 Diversified Characters 🩷 College Romance
Kayla is wrote to be this beautiful person that anyone would just strive to be, she is supper skilled and very mature. Nate on the other hand is the epidemy of a jock!! Bun this man made me swoon from just his words, he is so cocky and im just hear for it. I really love that there is a slow burn, with lots of teasing and back and forth. Nate is that type of guy that will really protect the ones he cares for. ( I may have a crush) This book was my very first sports romance, and it has blown me away. You definitely have to read this book!!
I've been waiting for a book from Wendy Avery for a while now, finally my wait is over. In this book we meet Kayla and Nate. Kayla is on scholarship in college, and she loves to help in food pantry at the campus, but this is going to end, when they decide to built center for football team, she is furious and she'll do what she has to, to save food pantry. For Nate football was always first till he meet Kayla and she opened his eyes. Wonderful storyline, which pulls you in, enjoyed very much.
Full disclosure I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Overall I would say I enjoyed the book. It was a bit hard to get into at first, but once you do it’s a fun ride to see Nate and Kayla interact. Kayla is no pushover and her fierce determination shines through when the school tries to shut down the food pantry she volunteers at. This book is a slow burn enemies to lovers sports romance with dual POV and some spice!!
Kayla and Nate are from two very different worlds, and I think that the author portrayed both characters in a way that made them feel authentic. I do wish that there was more time for them as “enemies” before becoming lovers, but I very much stand by this being a cute, worth it read!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This sports romance is different from any sports romance I've read before and I loved it!
The heroine is a strong female character who works as a DJ and volunteers at the food bank. The hero is a football star who takes his privilege for granted but is immediately attracted to Kayla's grit. They are on opposite sides but they keep bumping into each other and their attraction grows.
I really loved how Kayla and Nate acted maturely and supported each other even when their relationship was strained. The drama and emotion felt very real.
There are multiple spicy scenes in the book that are hotter than you'd expect from looking at the cover.
College Fling is a fast, fun read with great characters and an original story. I loved Kayla's character so much. Don't miss the bonus epilogue because it's one of the best I've ever read!
Nate and Kayla both attend LVU and meet one night at a party while Kayla is djing. The book focuses on some important topics, mainly the lopsided distribution of funds for different groups, specifically football and the food bank. Kayla is a strong advocate for the food bank while Nate is on the football team.
When Nate and Kayla can no longer deny their attraction to one another, the heat level is pretty intense.

This was an ok read for me, it’s light hearted and fun although the dialogue felt a bit weird. There are some though provoking topics in this book which I thought were very interesting. I enjoyed the relationship development between Kayla and Nate although it did feel a bit rushed at times. Overall it was easy to read.

I enjoyed this book. I’m surprised they didn’t come back around and mention a more permanent solution for the food bank, they only mentioned the temporary one. But besides that, this was a good read.
Side note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review
This is a really sweet romance book. The characters are all quite young (as you'd expect from a book set in college I guess) but the story was well written and kept me entertained throughout.
I can imagine I'll read more of Wendy's books in the future.
The book was a quick and easy read. I liked how it was a sports book and an enemies to lover. I thought the books moved very fast so I thought they liked each other very quickly. I would read another book by this author.
