Mila Wright spent the last year planning her dream wedding in Yellowstone National Park. But that dream becomes a nightmare when those plans fall apart in the worst way possible. Distraught, she runs, not considering the dangers that might await her if she strays from the marked roadways in the park.
When Steele Jacobs goes out for a run in his wolf form and hears a human woman crying, he knows the last thing he should do is get involved. But something about the sound draws him to her—and when he sees Mila Wright, he knows without a doubt that she is his fated mate.
But he’s expected to choose a mate who will strengthen the Moonstone Pack, not a human weakling who brings nothing to the match. Can Mila even accept his werewolf nature? And if they bond together, can the two of them protect the pack against its new enemies?
USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and New York Times bestselling author Margo Bond Collins is a former college English professor who, tired of explaining the difference between "hanged" and "hung," turned to writing romance novels instead. She now writes urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and science fiction romance. Sometimes her heroines kiss aliens, sometimes they kill monsters. But they always aim for the heart.
Mila finds out her fiancé is having an affair with her supposed best friend. So she leaves for a walk but gets lost and attacked by a bear before Steele can come to her rescue in his wolf form. When Steele does get to her and runs the bear off, Mila is losing blood and is in and out of consciousness so he brings her to the pack doctor and has him stitch her up. Steele feels something for this human right away but he's a wolf shifter and doesn't know if his pack would accept a human as his mate since he's the alpha but the pull towards her is very strong.
While these two are getting to know each other better, there's another wolf shifter pack that's after Steele's territory and his pack and they find themselves in a lot of danger because of the other alpha.
Now this had so much promise and I went into this thinking I was going to love this book but unfortunately I was wrong. First, I don't like cheating in a romance book. I was just talking about tropes I don't like on another blog last week and cheating was one of them.
Another thing I disliked was how many times Mila was referred to as fat. I really hated that and it detracted from the story for me. Why is it that full figured heroines are so often looked down on in books?
Another thing was Mila had just been attacked so bad by a bear that she needed stitches but she seemed to be just fine the next day and day after. She was human so there was no speedy healing going on it was all slow, painful, human healing so why wasn't she in more pain the next day? It made no sense.
The rival pack treated their females badly and even put a pregnant female in danger and threatened her life and the life of her unborn child. I disliked that a lot.
I felt that all the abuse, cheating and putting down the heroine because of her weight really detracted from a sweet romance in this story.
Disclosure: I was given an e-ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
My Review: Steele by Margo Bond Collins is book one in a new para-fantasy romance series. It features an alpha lead named Steele Jacobs and a human woman named Mila Wright.
About the Book:
Mila - > This was meant to be the one of the happiest moments in her life. She was getting married tomorrow, after all. Everything changed, however, when she suffered the cruelest betrayal of all. There would be no reconciliation for her and her ex. She couldn't get away from him fast enough. Unfortunately, in getting away from her fiance, she inadvertently placed herself in harm's way. Who would save her from what was surely a sudden death?
Steele - > Being alpha to his pack was no hardship. He cared about his family and would always look after them. Sometimes, if he was being honest, he wanted more. He wanted someone to share his life with. He knew what he could do for the good of his pack, but... Too much was going on for him to dwell on any of that, especially now that a threat was upon his family. Would he ever get a chance to find his mate?
My Final Say: I liked this book. It was a good start to what has the potential to be a solid series. It moved at a slow to moderate pace. It introduced a number of interesting characters. It had minimal conflict, while also laying the groundwork for more. It had a satisfying ending and an enticing hint at what comes next.
I think readers will enjoy meeting the Moonstone pack. They seem to have a lot going for them.
Other: While I liked the book enough to give the next book a chance, I will say that there was one negative reference to the female lead that I genuinely did not care for. It was related to her size. I was incredibly disappointed to see her referred to with such unflattering language at times. With that said, it was refreshing to read about a full figured lead. Right on!
This book had me intrigued in the beginning as I am in my shifter/monster romance phase at the moment and received this for free on kobo. The pace was good and I had good hopes however what really brings this down for me is the fat-shaming in this book. Diverse & nonconventional characters are important, but the flatness of the only insult being that the main character is fat was tiresome. The “villains” were poorly written and really was just multiple of the same characters either calling the fmc fat or thinking she was fat but still wanting to s@ her. The dialogue especially for the villains was poor and the insults just overall made me feel like I was reading an eleven year old writing fanfiction. I’m sorry for the savageness, but it just felt childish, like the villains were 8 year olds snickering in the corner and easily could of been throat punched by anyone. However, I did think the intimate scenes weren’t the worse I have read! I unfortunately won’t be continuing the series
I enjoyed reading this book! The author's writing style was engaging and I thought the characters were well developed.
"Steele" is definitely a fast-paced read packed with drama, betrayal, rivaling packs and a swoon-worthy Alpha who's main objective is to protect both his pack and newly found mate.
I will definitely be reading book two when it's released and I think this book should be on your TBR if you enjoy reading shifter romances!
Thank you Margo Bond Collins, Net Galley and Rakuten Kobo- Kobo Originals for proving me with an ARC of this book.
This is a well written shifter romance with strong characters in Steele and Mila. The author brings drama, danger and a steamy romance. She brings a slow burn fated mates story and moves it fluidly with her descriptive scenes. I enjoyed reading their story.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
There were a few plot points you had to just not think about and let slide. I also didn't love how the bad guys kept complaining about how "fat" the character was. I get that it was supposed to make you not like them even more, but it felt unnecessary.
I did like the characters and the build-up for the next book. I will probably read it.
Margo Bond Collins has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Mila and Steele. Deacon is the Alpha of the Idaho pack and has plans to take over the Moonstone Pack of Yellowstone Park. Steele is the Alpha of the Moonstone pack and is out running in his territory when he hears a howl and recognized one of his pack members. Soon after another pack member comes out of the trees and he knows it is Nick, one of the pack sentinels. Nick bumped Steel and goes into the trees. Steele follows and soon Nick is shifting back into his human form. Steele shifts and when done, asked, "Is there a problem?" Nick t tells him that Ryker thought so. He sent me to find you. The Idaho is at it again. Steele cursed and asked, "What has the Idaho pack done now?" Mila is on her way to the Old Yellowstone Inn with her best friend Becky for her wedding. Her fiance, Jeffery wanted to have the wedding there. When Mila and Becky get to the Inn, Jeffery acts strange toward Mila but differently toward Becky. Jeffery gives Becky a hug and hangs on longer than he should to Becky. When Mila and Becky check in, Mila wants to go up to their room but Becky wants to go and have a drink with Jeffery and the other guest. A few hours later, Mila goes looking for Jeffery but she can't find him or Becky. She gets a key to Jeffery's room and goes up to put the gift she had for him in there. When she opens the door, she sees Jeffery and Becky going at it. When Becky sees her, she lets Jeffery know. He tells Mila that it is not what is seems. She lets him have it and walks away from them. Jeffery calls out to her but she keeps walking. She ends up in the woods lost. She sets down in front of a tree and pulls out her gronla bar to eat. She hears a growl beside her and looks and it is a bear. Steele has been smelling a anazing scent and he goes to check it out. When he gets to where she is, he sees the bear hit her with it claws on her shoulder. He tells her to throw the gronla bar and then run. She takes off running and he thinks for a minute the bear will go after her.Steele attaks the bear in his wolf form giving Mila time to get away. Mila keeps running even when she starts to get weak and felt like she was going to pass out. Steele finds her and he shifts to help her. She thinks she is going crazy when she sees him shift. Steele picks her up and carries her to his jeep and takes her to the pack doctor. After she is taken care of, she gets him to take her back to the Inn so that she can get her things from her room. When they get to the Inn, they run into Jeffery and Becky. Jeffery wants to talk, but she tells him that they have nothing to talk about after he cheated on her with her best friend. Mila leaves with Steele after he offers her a place to stay at the Inn his pack runs. Steels is acting strange around Mila and he thinks that she might be his mate. He is not sure that a shifter and human can be mates. Deacon has found out that Steele has an interst in Mila and plans to use her to get to Steele. He has someone watching Mila. When they try to get her, Steele has someone watching her. Deacon arranges a meeting with Steele while some of him pack go after Mila. Mila is taken when Steels is meeting with Deacon. Deacon wants Steele to surrender to him and if he doesn't, he tells Steele that he will give her to him pack to play with. Mila can't get away from the men who took her. She is taken to the Idaho pack territory and put in the basement of Deacon's house. She calls out to Steele. While talking to Deacon, Steele hears Mila in his mind when she is taken. This makes Steele mad and he lets Deacon know that if something happens to Mila that he is dead. Deacon tells him that he has 24 hours to surrender to him or Mila will be the one to suffer. Steele gets a call from Ryker and is told that they have found where Deacon has his pack territory. Steele tells Ryker to have the best fighters of the pack to meet him and be ready for a fight. Mila reaches out to Steele and he feels her fear. He reaches back to her and is allowed to see what she sees. Deacon has the two men who took her shift and stay with her. She watches them shift and that is when she realized that Steele is a shifter. She is not scared of him and lets him know what is going on with her. He tells her that he is coming for her. When Steele gets to when he is to meet Ryker and the rest of his pack, they make a plan to go after Deacon and his pack. Mila tells Steele that Deacon has set up a trap for him. He tells her that he knows it is a trap but he will get her out. When Steele and his pack get to where she is, the surrond the house and about to attack when the Idaho pack comes out of the house. Steele, Ryker, and Bronx go up to the house. The rest of the pack surrond the Idaho pack and the fight is on. Once Steele takes care of the wolf that is blocking him, he goes into the house and looks for Mila. He goes into the kitchen and that is when Deacon attacks him. Steele sets Deacon up for Bronx's attack but Deacon gets away. Steele goes through the door into the basement and sees the two wolves there with Mila. Steele and Bronx take care of the wolves that are guarding Mila and he gets her out. Will Mila decide to stay with Steele or go back home to Dallas? This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
After I read this book I had to think for awhile before I was ready to write a review because I was conflicted. There was so much I loved about it that my first impulse was to give it a five. But then as I thought about it I realized that as wonderful as it is, there are a few true weaknesses.
Let me start with the good stuff. First and most importantly is Steele. Not Steele the book but Steele the shifter, alpha of the Moonstone Pack. He was incredible. I almost instantly fell head over heels for him. He’s like everything I love in a romance hero with none of the bad. I literally can’t think of a single thing about him that I didn’t love.
Next are his bffs, Ryker and Bronx. Both seriously amazing and clearly the focus of two future books. I loved how the three shifter cousins were so different and yet balanced each other so perfectly. I enjoyed their interactions and unique personalities.
I also really, really liked Nick. Newer to the pack I sense there is so much hiding under his hot blond looks. Based on his actions and the hints we are given, I have a feeling his story will be the most interesting of all.
The chemistry of the Moonstone Pack combined with their history and the tightness of their community make it one of the more interesting shifter packs I’ve read about. I love that they were founded by three females that were strong enough to leave their old pack and form a new one that embraces love, family and free-will.
Unlike a lot of romances this book focused more on the action and conflict with the enemy pack while adding occasional scenes between Steele and Mila. Yes, we saw them meet and start to get to know each other but the drama was the greater emphasis, not so much their love story. The strange thing is, I don’t know if that’s good or bad since, honestly, I didn’t even notice it while I was reading the book.
Now let me talk about the not so good. My biggest problem with this book is that despite being about 300 pages, it often felt rushed and important parts were too quickly covered, glossed over or even ignored. For example, Mila went from being engaged and it’s the night before her wedding to someone else to loving Steele way too fast. It was totally unbelievable. Also, everything that happened with Deacon seemed superficial and the resolution of the main conflict was so quick I was left unsatisfied. Mila also accepted the existence of shifters way to fast and without question. He never really explained anything, not even about what it meant to be fated mates and yet she seemed to instantly know all about everything. I felt all of these areas deserve more time.
The other thing I have a problem with is Mila herself. I felt her character was never fully developed. There is so much about her I think we were never told. Her thoughts and actions were often inconsistent and in some ways she was kind of a boring person. Also, despite being fated mates, there just wasn’t a whole lot of chemistry between them. I saw a lot of potential but then it never seemed to happen, mainly because they weren’t given the time to really get to know each other and get the fires going.
There were a few unanswered questions left at the end. While I’m sure some are deliberate and due to the ongoing series plots, a few I suspect were just things overlooked that were never caught by the editors. They didn’t ruin the story but they did leave me a little frustrated.
After much thought I ended up giving this four stars. There is way more good than not so good and I think it’s a solid start to a very promising new series. I can’t wait for the future books in the series, especially Nick’s, but I suspect his might be last so I will just have to be patient. In the meantime, that rascal, Ryker is up next.
One final note, I’ve mostly read Margo’s alien romances, this is only my second of her shifter romances, but I am beginning to suspect I’ve really been missing out. I think her shifter books are her best and I am planning to look through her back catalog and see what else I find.
Really weird. Number 1, the first prologue (this book was free through kobo, I picked the first option I saw) gave me absolute whiplash. It ended up being the villains which I suppose made sense, but it was honestly still a really jarring opening. Talking abt How women were good for nothing but getting pregnant, and waiting for teenagers to be old enough it was very uncomfortable.
Second, they describe the FMC as being Rubenesque, which is about the women in Ruben's Paintings. Idk about anyone else, but for me They look like very much average sized women, they're hardly fat, yet through the entire book the villains call her fat, and her friend makes a fat joke. Not only the blatant fat phobia towards her (as well as directed towards herself) but also the random comments about food like a granola bar, and her focus on wanting to eat made it even weirder. Small comments like that that made me believe atleast that the author like that.
Anyhow third is the actual writing. I really hated the random First person cut ins. The book is majorly third person such as "Steele walked through the halls of his massive Lodge and he has a gigantic cock and he's a werewolf. I love this place. He stepped over to Beckey and sneered at her" obviously not a real quote but the first person character thoughts were at best disjointed/unnecessary and at worst completely confusing.
The romance itself took place over maybe 4 days, and it went from oh no my ex cheated on me with my bestie and there's this guy who helped me, he's nice to look at. To "I'm going to stay with you for the rest of my life"
Overall anyway I really hated this book, and if it was any longer i would've dnfd it. Luckily I find books like this to be quite funny so all wasn't lost, and I'm sad my free kobo book was wasted on it, but it's okay.
If you like this book I'm sure there was redeeming features, but for me, I absolutely hated it and think there's much better out there. It's okay
Ps. I'm only ever really active on the storygraph now and not on goodreads, and only some of my reviews that I'm particularly passionate about get published here
Blake Deacon was leader of his pack of wolf shifters in Big River Falls, Idaho, but it was a place no female would want to be. They got no respect, were used by Deacon and his violent lieutenants, and the pregnant females had to sit on the floor, despite how uncomfortable it was. Deacon eyed the teenagers, making plans for how many he would be taking for himself now. It was his “right” to do whatever he wanted. He enjoyed the females’ fear of him. Not a very nice guy. Now he announced to the pack they were going to expand their territory into Yellowstone, despite the Moonstone Pack already there.
Mila Wright was to marry her best friend Jeffrey and had been eagerly planning her wedding which Jeffrey wanted held in Yellowstone National Park. Becky Ringer, Mila’s best friend, asked her again if she was sure. It seemed too rushed to her. When they got to the Yellowstone Inn, Becky pushed in front of Mila and let the door close on her while Mila struggled with her suitcase and her garment bag containing the wedding dress. Becky shouted out to Jeffrey they were here, which was also odd. He wouldn’t kiss Mila in public and called her “crass”. But he wrapped his arms tightly around Becky’s waist in greeting! Mila went upstairs for a nap while Becky joined the groomsmen for a drink – after giving her suitcases to Mila to drag upstairs for her! But Mila couldn’t sleep, so she dressed and went downstairs. No one knew where Jeffrey or Becky were, so she got an extra key to his room to drop off the gift she had for him. And she walked in to find them together in bed.
Mila turns and runs into Yellowstone Park, heedless of the dangers. Steele Jacobs, Alpha of the Moonstone Pack, is there for a run in his wolf form and hears a human woman in distress. Finding Mila, he recognizes her as his fated mate. With the Idaho group causing trouble, he needs a strong pack, not a weak human mate by his side. Would she even want to mate with a wolf shifter? Or will he take her out of the dangerous park and let her go on her way?
Wow this book was amazing and it had me hooked right from the start and didn’t let go till the very end. Mila Wright is a human that’s going to be married at Yellowstone National Park after her fiancée Jeffery wanted it there and Mila didn’t care she just wanted her man. Now Mila and her best friend Becky are just checking in when they see Jeffery and his friends and Becky drops her bag on Mila and Becky goes to the boys where Jeffery gives Becky a hug and its a little bit to longer than it should be but Mila lets it go as Becky goes to have a drink leaving her the bags for Mila to take to there room. Sometime later she goes to Jeffery’s room to leave a gift she got him and finds jeffery and Becky in bed together and she calls it off and walks out and heads into the national park. Steel Jacobs is a wolf shifter and is the Alpha of the Moonstone Pack and is out for a run when he smells a delicious scent and when he hears a women screaming and see’s a female being attacked by a bear and races in to save her and scares off the bear and tells her to run and when he finds her she is unconscious and just before she passes out again she see’s a wolf turn into a sexy man and Steel needs to take her to there packs Doctor now she is stitched up he realizes she is his fated mate but to take on a human female might not be the best thing for the pack with everything thats going on with the Idaho Pack run by Deacon who is a cruel and nasty and treats the women in his pack as sexy slaves to service him and his men and now he wants to take over the Moonstone Pack and Steel will never let that happen. Now they are a couple now and everyone in the pack loves her and when Deacon finds out ab out Steel’s mate he kidnaps her and try’s to forced him to give up his pack. How does it all turn out and do they have a future together or not. Loved this book and looking forward to his cousin Ryker book to come out next.

A wedding suddenly called off, a woman attacked by a bear and rescued by a wolf shifter
Mila had arrived at Yellowstone National Park and caught her Fiancé and best friend being overly familiar in the hotel room, she had been totally disgusted and had decided to leave the hotel and go for a walk. Unfortunately, she had been attacked by a bear and had then been rescued by a wolf that had mysteriously appeared to change into a very naked man.
Steele could not understand why the female was having such an effect on his wolf, her scent was something he could not explain and also, he was sure that he could hear her in his mind and she appeared to hear him in hers. She had been badly injured by the bear and was losing a great deal of blood so Steel had taken her back to Moonstone where she had been cared for and was staying.
The Idaho pack had been making moves on the Moonstone pack but it had only been threats until their Alpha Deacon a shifter that had turned into a monster, he had no thought for his pack he was cruel and killed without a moment’s sympathy. When he is finally seen he is not the type of Alpha that Steele had expected to encounter, he is a shifter that has lost his humanity and this this reflected in his actions.
As the couple Mila and Steele start to spend time together it is the first time, they have known an Alpha find his True Mate in a human and yet his Pack are all behind him at a time he could never of anticipated.
This is a wonderful read and I guarantee that once you begin reading you will not be able to put this book down until you reach.
I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

Blake Deacon, an Alpha and his pack are forced to leave their lands and move to Big River Falls, Idaho, which is a short hop to Yellowstone National Park which is where the Moonstone Pack is. In the Idaho pack females are treated in the old ways. A harsh way, whereas the Moonstone Pack is run with the times. Its Alpha is Steele Jacobs. The Idaho pack wants to enlarge its holdings and wants to take over the Moonstone Pack’s lands and people, killing off the Alpha and his family. Mila Wright is in Yellowstone to marry her fiancée, Jeremy and it is a small destination wedding. However, Jeremy cheats on Mila, who is so upset she ends up in the forest and meets up with the wildlife and is saved by Steele, and so much happens after that! No one believes that humans can be fated mates with werewolves, but Mila is Steele’s. However, the Idaho pack members are watching the Moonstones. They find out about Mila and since the Idaho pack is on the evil side, they do things that are horrible.
This book was an awesome roller coaster ride, emotionally. It made me fall in love with the Moonstone pack. I wanted to kick Jeremy for cheating on Mila the night before their wedding. Jeremy is definitely lacking in morality. However, I would have totally been entranced by Steele as well. He is a hero, a true one, as he treated her better than anyone else. I can’t wait to read about cousin Ryker’s story in the next book and I know that there will be more trouble from the Idaho pack. I hope the Moonstone’s can save the pregnant females and children of the Idaho pack. Yes, there are a few triggers in this book for people who have been in trauma. But it is a really good story. I want to know more about the characters and the good packs that are in that world.

Steele Jacobs, alpha of the Moonstone Pack of Yellowstone Park, is about to have two challenges. One is in the form of his Fated Mate, who just happens to be a human and a newly jilted bride-to-be. Nobody in his pack has ever taken a human as a mate and he is not sure it wouldn't undermine his position. His other challenge is from a pack that recently moved into Idaho, near his pack's territory. Apparently, the Idaho pack's alpha is looking to expand his territory - right into Moonstone Pack land. Steele is not overly concerned until one of the Idahos approaches his mate with a message for him and he realizes they know wbo she is to him... but she doesn't know anything about shifters or Fated Mates.
Mila Wright has come to Yellowstone Park to get married. The park was her fiance's choice for the wedding -not hers. She does not like camping, hiking, or rustic destinations. When her wedding plans come crashing down around her, she runs right into trouble as she wanders off the trail and gets lost. If that isn't bad enough, she also runs afoul of a bear. She can't believe it when a wolf jumps in and distracts the bear long enough to allow her to escape. She is rescued by a very hunky man who carries her back to civilization and even offers her a room in a motel where her ex-fiance and former best friend aren't. Hallelujah. Steele seems like a great guy and nothing like Jeffrey. But is he even interested in her?
This was a great story and I can't wait for another one in the series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Start to The Moonstone Pack sometime fate kind of knows what she is doing and taking control is what she does best on a good day 😊. Mila has been looking forward to her wedding, planning it excited until she finds out her fiancé has been having an affair with her best friend and so going for a walk getting lost or attacked by a bear wasn’t part of the plan by the time she is saved by a wolf she is losing too much blood in and out of consciousness so bring her to the pack doctor is his only choice. Steele sexy as all get out wolf shifter who finds a human after being attacked by a bear knowing if he doesn’t get her to a doctor their pack doctor she will die and he can’t let that happen because something about his little human calls to the two of them something he can’t ignore the problem is his pack will they accept the fact that his mate is human. The longer she is there healing the closer they grow but there is trouble brewing when another pack decides they want Steels pack, his territory, and willing to fight for but how will it all go down will Deacon allow him to have his girl, will she be afraid to help, will she be afraid of him since he is a shifter, will her ex. try getting her back will she give him another chance or believe in her worth, and will they find the happiness they both seek?
I really like this story. Full of action/ intrigue and of course conflict from the very beginning. Mila is a woman who finds out something about her fiancés just before their wedding. I like how she eventually handles things and that throughout the book she sees .just what her fiancés is really like. She and Stele have a rocky beginning but the path smooths out in the end. I like the interaction between the two of them. Especially when they discover something that has never been heard of between a human and werewolf. Steele believes in fated mates. He hoped beyond hope that one day he may find his. But never in his dreams did he think she would be human. It was unheard of. He is the alpha to a pack that is doing things differently. They "mingle" with humans. Then came the Idaho group. The alpha is very well described in the prologue. This is a standalone for the couple, but the back story will be interesting as the series continues. There is steam to the romance and of course a wonderful HEA for Mila and Steele.

Steele is the first book in the Moonstone Pack Series. It is a steamy BBW finds her shifter romance. Mila is a human who has come to Yellowstone Park, the Moonstone Pack's territory, to get married. The night before the wedding she finds her fiancé and best friend in bed together. She runs into the night only to put herself in danger. Steele is a werewolf and the Alpha of the Moonstone Pack. He was patrolling the area due to a potential threat when he comes across Mila being attacked. He is instantly attracted to and feels protective of her. He saves her and takes her to his pack. He suspects she is his fated mate, but she is human. Mila is also instantly attracted and seems to have a connection with him. Can love conquer all and can they save the pack as another enemy emerges?
I loved these characters and their chemistry. It read so easy that I was done in a day. I can't wait for Ryker's story and hope we also get more Steele and Mila. Loved it!!.

Thank you NetGalley and Margo Bond Collins for this e-ARC in exchange for my honest opinion and review.
This was a decent shifter romance. Lovers of the trope will definitely be a fan!
Read if you love: -Shifter Romances -Multiple POV's -Damsel in Distress -Opposites Attract -Curvy Female Leads -National Park Settings -Dark Themes : Cheating, Violence and S.A. references.
For me - I personally enjoy really strong female leads in my stories. This was not found here in my opinion. The whole storyline with her ex fiancé cheating with the best friend also was a huge cliche ick for me. I also didn't really find anything unique about this shifter romance that sets it apart from others in the genre, aside from having a curvy female lead.
I did love that the pace was a bit quicker - the fast pace saved it for me. This would definitely be a enjoyable read for those needing a break after a more intense lengthy fantasy read!
Steele by Margo Bond Collins is a shifter romance with all your standard shifter tropes and a lot of contemporary fiction/romance ones as well.
Mila is a curvy FML with poor self-worth, and when we meet her, she is getting ready for her wedding day with her best friend and meeting up with her fiance. During this, she makes a lot of self-deprecation thoughts so heads up if this is hard for you. She btw is amazing, and I'm glad that while she suffers, a great blow ends up finding our ML.
Steele, we meet as a contrast to the pack in the prolog (WHICH was very concerning for a second because I thought the Pack and Alpha in the prolog was going to be the ML and was almost an instant put down and not finished because of it, but it's okay he's not.) Steele shows affection and true leadership and shows he's not an alphahole.
This romance felt like a great balance of characters, tropes, story, world-building, and some smut.
A fast-paced storyline that throws a ton of drama and danger at the female lead character in the first few chapters. Mila walks in on her fiancé having sex with her best friend the night before their wedding, runs into and is attacked by a bear and then is rescued by a sexy alpha wolf shifter.
Mila is immediately attracted to Steele and soothed by his kind and attentive treatment. She doesn’t know it, but Steele is a wolf shifter and he is surprised yet certain she’s his fated mate.
The storyline includes a threat to the Moonstone Pack by a new pack that recently moved to the area wanting to take pack lands. The danger is more that Steele and his lieutenants realize, until they discover Mila has been kidnapped as bait to instigate a fight for control of the Moonstone pack.
So much takes place in a short time period.

I was a little worried at the beginning of this book. I thought I had accidentally found myself in a dark romance or something. But turns out the prologue is from the antagonist who is quite disgusting. Luckily, Steele is a much better guy and while Mila has been through a lot (even before her loser fiancé betrayed her) she has a great attitude.
There is a lot going on in this book and it feels like the set-up for a new world/series. So the romance gets a bit lost and is just left to 'it's fated so no work needed' territory. But I did like the characters overall, and especially want to learn more about all the secondary characters. And it will be interesting to see what happens with the rival pack. So I will definitely look for more in the series.
Honestly, I would give the romance a 3. But the other characters and some of the action really make the book worthwhile so overall its a 4.
Steele is the alpha of his Yellowstone pack of wolf shifters. He is having problems with a new pack that moved in nearby recently. His mother wants him to make an alliance by mating a female from the other pack but Steele wants to wait to find his fated mate. When pack members from the rival pack are discovered to have invaded their territory without permission, all the male shifters are patrolling the park and their territory. Steele chooses to patrol in the tourist areas since he is best at stealth. On his patrol, he runs across a wonderful scent. He is compelled to follow it and finds a human woman crying and about to be attacked by a bear. He runs to her rescue. His wolf claims her as their mate but Steele is confused since he has never heard of human women as fated mates. Can he claim his fated mate or will his pack reject his mate?.

This book definitely left me reminiscing my Wattpad reading days, where werewolf stories consumed my life. Unfortunately, that’s where it ends for me. The story was okay, but I did feel like it could have been expanded on way more. Things kind of just happened in this book and the timeline was extremely sped up, which took away from the story. There was some action that took place, but the conflict definitely felt a little wanting.
The book essentially follows Mila, bride-to-be turned runaway bride—whose best friend shacks up with her now ex-fiancé—and Steele, Alpha of the Moonstone pack. When the two cross paths, sparks fly and Steele immediately realizes that his fated mate is human. There’s also the looming threat of a pack war thrown in there.
I will say the book has good bones, but I can only hope that the other books in this series are a little more flushed out and little more believable.
When Steele is out on a run checking borders in Yellowstone following incursions by the Idaho pack, he comes across Mila about to be attacked by a bear. Mila has run away from the inn after discovering her fiance together with her best friend and has got lost. When Steele's wolf is convinced that she is their fated mate it seems an impossibility as she is human and he is a wolf shifter. But as they get to know each other they fall deeper for each other and when Mila's life is put at risk by the Idaho pack's Alpha, Steele will do whatever it takes to protect his pack and keep his mate safe. Full of action, adventure and betrayal, this is a good start to the series with great characters that will leave you unable to put the book down. I look forward to the next in the series.

Mila Wright is planning her wedding, in Yellowstone National Park. She is betrayed in the worst possible way. She runs into the forest, unaware of the dangers. Steele Jacobs is on a run, when he hears a woman crying. He feels drawn to her. He realizes that she is his fated mate. Steele helps her, when a bear tries to attack her. He insures that she receives medical care. He provides her with a room. Steele is concerned that Mila will not be accepted into the pack. He is expected to marry a shifter, to strengthen the pack. He needs to be able to keep the pack safe. Can Mila accept his true nature? I enjoyed reading this book! The storyline flows well. The characters are realistic, and likeable. There is a hea!.

The start of a new series always excites me. This one did not disappoint. Mila seems a little too clueless at the first of the book. But after reading her story and learning her background- she was looking for love in all the wrong places. Along comes Steel to save her life and her future. This story was action packed and a really good read. There are some elements of abuse. Along with the mentions of sexual abuse. If reading that is not something you can do please skip this one. I will say there is no sexual abuse in the story just the mentioning of it. I liked how Steele and his pack got along and were so established. The added story of his cousins was a big part of this first book. Looking forward to the next story.

4⭐️a fun and quick shifter romance. Slow-burn, fated mates, curvy FMC, a bunch of tropes I love in a shifter romance. Couple things I missed: I really wanted to see Mila or Steele really give it to her ex fiancé. Especially with how Mila really grew into her stronger herself at the end. More spice! Just one spicy scene (and there’s an editing issue that really annoying me during that scene. Someone needs to fix that) that was just meh 🫤. All in all I would recommend this. It’s a great shifter romance for people just starting to get into shifter romances. The rest of the series sounds like it might be really fun to read too!
thank you Rakuten Kobo for the ARC in exchange for my honest review
Engaging story that's about Steele Jacobs alpha of the Moonstone pack in Yellowstone National Park and Mila a human he helps when she catches her best friend Becky with her fiancé, Jeffrey before their wedding at the park. Mila hurting from what she saw takes a walk and runs into a bear who attacks her. Bleeding and hearing her cries Steele in his wolf form helps her. Steele's wolf recognizes Mila is his mate. Steele turns into a man and takes her to his pack, but will they accept a human in their pack? Meanwhile, the alpha of The Idaho pack, Blake Deacon wants the Moonstone pack's territory. Blake runs his pack with cruelty and fear, will Steele defeat him, and will Mila become his mate? I volunteer to read and review this copy I received.
This was a pretty solid, quick read with fairly developed characters and likeable characters, though it did feel a bit rushed. Like the first book of any series, this book moved slowly at first, setting the scene for the rest of the story and developing the characters and setting, but within the first 30 pages or so, became an action packed, slow burn of a story. The premise of the book was good, but it felt like it needed to be about 50 pages longer so that there could be more plot development and everything didn't feel so rushed. This book did set the rest of the series up nicely, leaving the opening for Ryker's story to happen next. Overall, this book was pretty good, but I don't know that I will continue the series.
When Mila find her dirtbag of a fiancé in bed with her best friend a day before her dream wedding in Yellowstone Park, she flees into the nearby woods and is attacked by a mother grizzly bear.
Who comes to her rescue? A sexy alpha wolf shifter, that's who! Mila turns out to be his human fated mate. When she is targeted by a rival pack's alpha, he must come to her rescue all over again.
Steele was a very enjoyable read that did not need to rely on overuse of smut scenes to draw me in. The ending was a perfect segue into the next book which I will most definitely be adding to my TBR list. Bravo!.
