I’ve gone from singing about love…to lying about it.
I used to be part of a famous girl band. But I gave up my microphone for policy memos. Why? You should see the fine white boy running for Georgia governor.
It was never supposed to go this far… But the rumors are flying and the next thing I know…
Logan hits a knee.
I’m supposed to boost his campaign. Fake marrying a former pop star would definitely help him, but what about me? Am I about to put my heart on the line – even if it means we both get what we want? The truth is…
This was like no other BWWM romance that I've ever read. Logan Edwards, the good-looking white man, is running for Governor of Georgia. The African-American woman, Hannah Walker, aka "Honey Walker, the teen pop sensation of the world-famous trio Daughters of Fortune" is now the Policy Director of Logan's campaign. Their "fake romance" to help his campaign leads to a real romance.
There was something missing. While reading the book, I realized it was boring. I couldn't figure out what was wrong. The premise was good. The plot was promising but underdeveloped. Logan and Hannah spent hours together, but you never felt that you got to know them. I certainly never felt any real attraction between them.
The characters had practically no backstory and there were questions the entire time I was reading the book. Why did Honey stop singing with the Daughters of Fortune? How did she go from a teen sensation to a Policy Director of a campaign? It made no sense why they had to fake a romance, especially after he disregarded her advice. There were many more questions.
Finally, they both realized they had real feelings for each other and things happened quickly after moving at a snail pace. There was just too many unanswered questions. However, I will never understand why the book was titled "Playeress", even though it was referenced, it never made any sense.
The sad thing about it was the book could have been a really good and different interracial romance. It simply missed the mark.
Tropes: Romance, African American Romance, BWWM Romance, Interracial Romance, Multicultural Romance, Billionaire Romance, Contemporary Romance, Fake Marriage Romance
Main Characters: Logan + Hannah
Logan and Hannah are such a dynamic pair that couldn't be more perfect for each other. Or for the race they are on for Governor. They compliment each other so well and have the best chemistry. With the chemistry they share they have so much to continue to build on.
I love that Hannah has such big aspirations but knows that doesn't come without hurdles. She understands that nothing will just fall into her lap and she has done the work. She knows that if she can team up with Logan that their values align so well that they can fight for the same thing. Together.
I received a complimentary copy via the author and Booksprout. All opinions are my own, honest and voluntary.
She left her superstardom behind and entered the political world which were her dream … she wanted to be the voice of the people in Georgia… America knows her as Honey Walker, the Superstar and she she has to work twice or more for them to see as Hannah Walker who wants to be the voice of Georgian pp . She was working alone side Ex Congressman Logan Edwards and he valued her political input… she was one intelligent woman who knew her stuff… Anyway, things got complicated and you need to grab your copy and how Mr & Mrs Governor came about… !
If I could give this 26,000 stars, I would! I love the relationship development between Hannah and Logan. The one aspect that I especially loved was that there was no long, drawn-out "does-he-does-she-what-if" going on. They both realized that communicating their feelings needed to happen sooner rather than later so that there would be no misunderstanding or confusion as to what their real feelings were for each other. Miscommunication seems to be a recurring, frustrating theme in a lot of romance novels, so this approach was very refreshing. Great book, Vixa Vaughn!!!
This book is definitely a NEW BEGINNINGS type of book. Learning how to overcome the past mistakes and moving forward with new experiences.
I’ve truly enjoyed this series. The Daughters of Fortune are certainly a group that I am a GREAT Fan of.
I’m SO excited to see what’s next for them.
Any opinions expressed in this review are solely and uniquely made by me and I am happily leaving this review. I originally voluntarily received an advanced copy of this book via bsprout.
Logan and Hannah pool their resources to boost their appeal to their constituents. What starts off as a ploy to shut up his opponents turns into so much more between them. Will their fake marriage turn into the real deal for Logan and Hannah.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Entertaining fake marriage story with some politics without overdoing. Very smooth transition for these two without the drama, thank goodness. Very supportive and the things they go through romantically and how the handle their undeniable chemistry and unexpected emotions are relatable and sweetly done.
I didn't know what to expect from this author and I was pleasantly surprised. The characters were fun and the power dynamics were not one-sided and almost low-key. She was the star and yet she was not annoying as some characters have been in other books I have read. It really was a sweet story. I will be reading more from this author.
This story kept me entertained from start to finish. The sparks between them flew off the pages. As someone who operates in politics occasionally, I appreciated the story. Even Olivia Pope would have enjoyed this tale.
I really wanted to like this book but unfortunately it wasn’t a trope I enjoyed. I ended up skimming the entire book just to get to the end, but I have to say it was well written with a good plot.
Logan and Hannah made it look like fun, so when their working and personal relationship came to some people being fake the real relationship came out and a wonderful love began.😉
