About the author

Rainer Maria Schröder, born 1951 in Rostock, is a German author of historical novels for all ages, juveniles and adults. He studied many different trades, including that of an opera singer. Since 1977 he has been a freelance journalist in Germany and the US. The backgrounds of his stories are all well researched, and he writes about places he has visited. Most of his stories are set in the Middle Ages. He currently lives in Georgia and enjoys hiking and camping.

Für einen Jugendroman sehr gut geschrieben - die Thematik ist an und für sich keine besonders anspruchsvolle, allerdings setzt der Autor sich meiner Meinung nach gut mit dem Thema auseinander, und vor allem - dem Zeitgeist entsprechend. Die vier Protagonisten sind sehr unterschiedlich, weshalb das Buch sehr angenehm zu lesen ist. Ganz davon abgesehen, dass die Fülle an historischen Fakten unglaublich ist.

Was man hier an historischem Grundwissen mitbekommt, finde ich sehr interessant. Schade ist jedoch, dass sich der erste Band zumeist auf den, meiner Meinung nach, bisher uninteressantesten der vier Protagonisten konzentriert.
