Cory is pursuing a life of fun, no stress, and taking chances. All three are put to the test when out paddleboarding with the Outback Boys activity group. His chilled morning takes a twist when he loses the battle with jellyfish.
In need of rescue, Cory is more than okay with lifeguard Eric being the man to save him.
Between drug-induced rambling and overly helpful friends, it’s clear Cory wants more than mouth-to-mouth with the delicious lifeguard. It’s up to him to risk the sting of rejection in the hope that Eric sees him as more than just a guy he saved.

4.5 stars. This was a hilarious short story. The first third of the book was so funny I was laughing out loud. One of my favourite things is MCs having no filter while intoxicated or on heavy painkillers. Becca Seymour did a fantastic job of writing Cory after getting stung by a jellyfish! This is a single POV short story that I highly recommend.
The last bit of the book was a little harder just because it felt a bit rushed and some fun bedroom parts were skipped a bit. Would have loved to see a bit more from them. But honestly it still gets a super high rating for the first part alone because it was awesome. Definitely recommend for a quick, funny read!
Well, that was definitely a quick read. I picked this up for a reading challenge, without even looking at full details, so I was rather surprised that something only a handful of chapters was being marketed as a novella. The story was simple. Guy goes paddle boarding, gets stung, hot lifeguard rescues him and then they go on a date, have sex and plan for date two. That was it! The characters were not given any chance for development. This was a blink and you’ll miss it kind of story. Nothing wrong with it, per se, but it felt like a writer who was churning out an idea in anticipation of writing something more.
After Cory decides to go for a swim in the ocean, he instantly receives multiple stings from a jellyfish. Barely making it back to the shore, he then looses consciousness. His friend, Pete, has no idea what to do to help Cory.
A lifeguard, Eric, comes to Cory's assistance, bring the confused man back to consciousness. Cory is taken by ambulance to the hospital.
Full of pain killers, Cory is visited by Eric. The two sense an immediate attraction.
And so begins their fast paced romance, with heat aplenty. Being a novella, there is not much world building, but the dialogue is caring, humorous and sexy.
Perfect intro to this author. Short, funny, sweet with a heated end. Cory and Eric were lovely characters. Looking forward to read the rest of the series.
4.5 stars I cannot possibly say how perfect the first half of this is. It it absolutely beyond hilarious and I would recommend it to anyone on the strength of that. I laughed so hard I literally choked. I love drunk or otherwise intoxicated MCs, and strong painkillers definitely get the job done. Absolutely fantastic.
I struggled a bit with the last 25%. It was incredibly rushed and skipped a lot of important moments. My favourite bit is usually first kisses, and this was skipped, and the sex was abridged to the point it may as well have not been there at all. It would be 1000 times better if it had been a longer story, it feels like the author either had a really tiny wordcount or was rushing for a deadline. I have marked it highly because the first 75% was unquestionably five stars. The last 25 was three, but that still comes out at 4.5. I still recommend as most of it was amazing.
It was a very quick read. I almost didn't even bother with it because the cover turned me off for some reason... I'm glad that I fought that instinct! I've noticed that this genre of books tend to have a very particular set of... "requirements" that I do not typically care for. This story had NONE of that! There was a bit of time for them to get to know each other, after meeting, before going out. They actually went on a real date, which I never seem to see. They were both very nervous about their attraction to each other. Everything was great!
Short prequel story introducing the Outback Boys, a group of queer men doing various outdoorsy activities together.
During their paddle boarding outing, Cory one of the members gets so badly stung by a bunch of jellyfish, that he ends up in a hospital. Eric one of on duty lifeguards, who tried to help Cory, visits him at the hospital and the two hit it off.
Uncomplicated short story. Fast but not particularly memorable read.
A very cute short story about a man who get stung by a jellyfish and is rescued by a strapping lifeguard. There is not much more to it really. It is simply a cute short read and a teaser to a wider series. As a teaser it has worked it magic and I will be looking into the other stories soon. If you have a few hours spare, like our friends in the northern hemisphere sheltering in place from the snow storm, then this romp on a hot beach is Australia is for you.
This is a modern Australian romance, the first book in the “Outback Boys” series. This was a short but cute story told from Cory’s POV. I wish there was a little bit more to the relationship but it was a good starter story.
4 stars. Sweet story of a meet not so cute as jellyfish stings were involved. Lots of humour with Cory high on medical painkillers, and Eric sounds gorgeous.
Enjoyed Becca's writing style, first book I've read of hers but found I have another (my book collecting hobby :)) so look forward to reading more of her books.
Super cute!! I loved Cory on drugs in the hospital - so funny!! And Eric was adorable!! The pacing was good, the story didn't feel too rushed despite its short length, although I'd gladly have read a full length novel about these two though and may have to check out the rest of the series!!
Not too much meat to this short story...but interesting concept. I want to know more about this Outback Boys group. Cory and Eric are very sweet and so much insta. Great Australian setting.
I liked this book just wished I didn't end as quickly, hopefully in the future there we will get to see more if these two as there relationship develops
Being stung by a stingray doesn't sound like fun but it did give us this short, fun read, and also pulled two young men together. It's short but it's a pleasant read.
This is a good short story, in that it doesn't attempt to do more than there is space for. It's a sweet snapshot of the start of a relationship, simple as that. And it is well done too.
