Hell Fae #3

Hell Fae Commander

Rate this book
“I’ll never trust you.”
The words resonate in my very soul.
They make me feel like death.

Of course, I can’t actually die.
I would just burn to ash and wake up again with the same damn problem swirling around in my heart and mind.
My inner beast thinks it has imprinted on a Halfling Hell Fae.
Without my permission.

Now all I want to do is hold her. Kiss her. F-ck her.
Claim her.
But I can’t.
Not until we solve this mystery going on with the Hell Fae Source and these rogue portals that keep popping up everywhere.

The Hell Fae Realm is in chaos, and my potential mate might be to blame.
Warden Ajax and Prince Melek think she’s innocent.
The Hell Fae King is sure she’s not.
And I’m too busy dealing with my panting Phoenix to pick a side.

All my animal can think about is biting his intended.
Meanwhile, all I can think about is how to stop him.

Camillia should have a choice.
Only, she doesn’t seem to want to choose…

Authors’ Hell Fae Commander is a dark paranormal romance with four tormented mates and no choosing required. If you like your antiheroes dominant and sexy, you’ve come to the right realm—the Hell Realm, where the romance is hot and no forgiveness is required. This is book 3 in a 5 book series and ends on a cliffhanger.

Filler beware

This whole book I pre ordered and waited months to get then had to wait 2 more months after it was due to come out was a total let down.
The absolute majority of this was internal monologuing! I found myself getting bored and going to do other things... Come back... Fall sleep on it. They said few words to each other verbally. Then tried to use mental talk as a form of communication. In my mind I'm just thinking how stupid does it look... To have so much internal monologuing and someone sitting there staring at you and then pop in your head and ask you are you ok... I mean they're right in front of you and you couldn't just say it?! The Phoenix didn't even actually pursue her... No mating ritual for it. She wasn't thrown back into the trials... There was no substance to this one and I'm just disappointed and ranting and I hate that. There was actually no steamy scene either. The reader just had to understand it was intense from second had "feelings"😒 wtf!
It didn't seem to go in line with the synopsis given that made me excited to read it. I just stared at it for a moment and was wondering was this a ghost writer attempt? Not my favorite authors just blatantly disappointing me to this extent?! There's no way this wasn't YA mode for tests and ugh... I'm beyond that age range.

Note to the authors of you read this post: if you feel as if you're pushing yourselves too thin, please for the love of all paranormal reverse harem gods... Stop writing so many short books. Give your all to maybe three... Complete them and then move forward. There are even other books you haven't even touched back on in a while. Stretching out books just to make money and half azz quality work is a dishonor to your craft.

Why did I bother 😮‍💨: boring, nothing happens, we dont even advance in spice 🤦🏽‍♀️ like at what point will I finally see the bdsm scene with these "kinky" mates?? It's just dragging. Everything is dragging.

Dnfing the series.

Well fuck! Another cliffhanger and I can't ever read the next fucking book because it's not out yet. So I loved this one. Our black phoenix and midnight fae are just so precious I need them to be okay. I think I'm going to die from suspense just waiting for the answer to Lucifer's question.

After the events of the last book where Cami was subjected to humiliation by Ty while 2 of her other men stood by I expected this book to be a turning point. In some ways it was but not enough. Melek is cryptic and manipulative and seems to be more concerned about Ty than Cami. Az is playing both sides. Trying to remain loyal to Ty but still wants Cami and Ajax as his mates. This whole book felt like everyone to trying to get Cami and Ajax to see Ty isn’t so bad but nothing comes from Ty himself. I’ll read book 4 but this was underwhelming.

Coulda been an email. Internal monologuing & reiterating events from a previous book from EVERY. SINGLE. POV. is eye-roll-&-skim-inducing, along with lazy.

Also, “blondish-brown” and “brownish-blonde”??? I should’ve stopped reading right then.

I don’t think I can keep reading this series 😭

I’ve tried so hard to keep pushing myself, hoping this series will get better, but it hasn’t. I guess the only good thing that’s actually happened is that Ajax has finally accepted his feelings for Cami, but that’s it.

I thought I’d like Malek as he had the most potential but it seems like all he does is use Cami to help Ty. I feel Foss and Thorn butchered him as a character. And I still don’t see how Ty is going to redeem himself. At this point, I predict that Cami is going to feel bad for him and forgive him for all of the terrible things he put her thought- which would be awful to read.

Honestly? I think this series should have been MMMM instead... that’s how bad this has turned out.

Tensions are high after what happened to Cami, and that’s just the beginning.
Melek is devious as always, he is constantly meddling, spinning things to his advantage & I can’t wait to see it all come to fruition.
There was a lot of heartbreak, anger & pain in this story, there was bonding, tentative forgiveness & training.
There is still a lot of healing that needs to happen between Ajax, Cami, Az, Melek & Ty, but there’s been a start.
I love how much we learn about Az & Ty in this. I love the tension, angst and spice and I can’t wait for them all to be mated.

I am loving being back with the guys in the Hell Fae world.
We get to hear more about Azazel the Fae Commander and his Phoenix and what they went through thousands of years ago to be the person he is now. I can't get enough of this world and loved that we caught up with a few from the Midnight Fae as well.
I can't recommend this enough but you need to read the first two books before this one, it is now getting to be where i want them all together, bring on the Hell Fae Prince as Melek is one of my favourites as i need to know what he is. Brilliant.

Ahhh I loved this one so much!!!

So many Midnight Fae cameos. 🫶🏼

The groveling was chefs kiss!

That ending though has me wanting to know what happens NOW!

Also I need to see how our last man is going to win over Cami because he has some real groveling he needs to do!

Overall Rating 3/5
Book four of this series has not yet been released, so this review will only encompass my thoughts up through Hell Fae Commander.
Stock Disclaimer: I tend to rate Reverse Harem/Why Choose books more generously than I would other genres of fiction, but that’s only because they fill a different need and require a different scale. I’d never say that Reverse Harem/Why Choose genre books CAN’T be well-written with fleshed-out characters, brilliant plotting, and deeply satisfying love stories, but I keep my expectations realistic.
What matters: Am I engaged? Do I want to ignore real life and dive into the next book immediately upon finishing one? Is it fun and sexy? Is the harem balanced, with no obvious favoritism?

What this book/series provided:
I did find myself engaged throughout this series, and read one right after the other.

****SPOILERS BELOW***

The Female Main Character 4/5
What matters: Do I actually enjoy spending time with her? Do her motivations make sense? Is she proactive or reactive? Does she have a backbone and self-respect? Can I root for her?
What this book/series provided
I really enjoyed Cami as a character. She was smart, resourceful, and pragmatic. She owned her sexuality, never wallowed in self-pity, and worked with the tools she was given. She's definitely a character I can root for and want to spend more time with.

The Guys 2/5
What matters: Is there a range of distinct personalities, or does the author rely on generic props to distinguish them? Does each seem to serve a purpose? Is the harem balanced, or is there an obvious author favorite?
What this book/series provided:

All of the male characters have distinct personalities and motivations. The series isn't complete, but as of the end of book three, the harem isn't even close to being balanced.
Ajax: As of this point, he's the only one she has an actual relationship with, and the only one who deserves her time. He started out as an apathetic asshole, but he's the only who put in the work to become a better man, and the only one who chose Cami over Lucifer.
Az: Despite learning a bit about his backstory, he's still a mystery to me. Who is he really, as a person? He's remorseful over the cage incident because he now understands how deeply Ajax was affected by being put in the same position as he was in the Midnight Fae book, but I'm not seeing a lot of remorse over how Cami was affected by the incident. On the other hand, he doesn't come across as very bright, and he's definitely paying his dues in groveling.
Melek: Intuitive, insightful, decisive. I love a chessmaster character, and in any other book, he would be my favorite. But so far, he's been a disappointment. With the other four being satisfied with their pre-book status quo, it's Malek who set them all on the path to a five-person circle with Cami as queen. Yet he's done almost nothing to achieve his aims. His entire contribution to making his endgame happen: one kiss, two pieces of paper (a spell and a contract) and a bunch of glitter. Cami and Ajax were inevitable from the start and didn't need his manipulation. Az was all in sexually, and only needed to experience losing them in order to get his priorities in order, and Lucifer went from being apathetic over Cami to outright wanting to murder her. So again, what has Malek accomplished?
Lucifer: I HATE this asshole, and all I can say is he'd better take a master class on groveling. So he was unfairly betrayed by a woman. It was a thousand years ago. Get over it you pathetic man-baby! Hell has no women. The source refuses to accept most women. The source is literally Lucifer. How stupid and blind do you have to be to not make the connection? He claims to care about his people, yet his own misogyny is causing them to go extinct. I don't care that he's the king, this man NEEDS to grovel.

The Love Story 2/5
What matters: Is it slow-burn or fast? Does each relationship feel earned? Does the heroine get a choice or does the author rely on body betrayal syndrome? Is the groveling satisfyingly sufficient (if necessary)? Are romantic conflicts organic to the characters/plot?
What this book/series provided:

Cami and Ajax might have only bonded out of a sense of dread (we're going to die, so we might as well live), but they show all the signs of genuine love, and I believe in them as a couple. Az, the man, lusts after them both, but, despite his claims that it's just physical, I sense that he's desperately in love with Ajax. I don't believe that Ajax feels the same way, but he's closed off his heart for the past decade. Now that Cami has helped him lower his guard and experience love again, I don't think it'll take much for him to fall for Az. Especially while Az is in grovel mode. Az's phoenix might feel this magical connection to Cami, but I don't buy that Az (the man) is in love with her. While he does show signs of guilt over how Cami felt during the cage incident, his deepest regret seems to center around how he forced Ajax to relive his past trauma. Still the chemistry between Az and Cami is strong, and think his love for Ajax is strong enough that he will WANT to love the woman that Ajax loves. These three should be able to balance out, eventually.
Malek and Lucifer are undoubtedly, absolutely in love with each other, but I don't know how the full harem can possibly work. For Malek, Cami isn't a woman to love, she's a solution to a problem. A way to ease Lucifer's burden. And while this is great for the Hell Realm, it's bad for a reverse harem story. While I think he's perfectly willing to sleep with her for the greater good, I don't sense that he's genuinely attracted to her, I don't think he loves her even a little, or that he's invested in wanting to love her. She's just a beautiful, convenient, tool to him.
As for Lucifer, fuck that guy. He's not worthy of even kissing Cami's toe, let alone earning her love and devotion. Learn. To. Grovel. Dude.

Storyline and Worldbuilding 3/5
What matters: Is the world-building interesting? Does the magic system make sense (if applicable)? Do I understand the overall villain’s motivation, or are they cartoonishly evil?
What this book/series provided:

The Bride Trials are terrible. As in any book of this type, the situation becomes less reprehensible the more we learn about it. Turns out, that any mating bond must be a mutual decision, and if a woman is unclaimed and not evil, she'll be returned to the human realm. So I guess it's all good in the end. I mean...what woman wouldn't want to throw away all their education and hard work in order to compete for a man in hell? Lucifer's actually doing them a favor, and it's not like it's his fault their parents trafficked them sold them to the devil for their own benefit. 🙄🙄🙄
Despite all that, I do find the world building and the different nightmare species to be interesting. I believe that Lucifer genuinely cares for his people and wants the best for them. After all, they're all males. Not sure what to say about the villain's motivation. Have we even met the villain yet? It's Cami's parents, right? Her father trained her all her life in order to carry out his evil plan, and her mother will turn out to be not human, but Vivaxia. Ugh.

Female Side Characters 1/5
What matters: how does the author write female side characters? Does the FMC have any female friends? Are romantic rivals treated as characters or the stereotypical Fatal Attraction caricature? Is there internalized misogyny?
What this book/series provided:

What female side characters? Cami has no female friends. She's assisted a couple of her co-competitors, but nobody's reached out to her in friendship. The only other female character of note is the cartoon villain, Vivaxia, who is completely to blame for Lucifer's millennium of misogyny and the sorry state of the hell realm.

Closing thoughts
If mid-series, am I excited to dive into the next book? If completed, am I satisfied with how this wrapped up? Does this make me want to read more from this author?
I kind of hated this series, yet, I couldn't put it down. I'll attribute that to Cami being a fantastic FMC. Despite all the shortcomings and misogyny, I'm too invested in her story and future happiness to stop now. I'll bitch and complain, yet I'll still probably pick up the next book as soon as it's released.
Also, fuck Lucifer.

I’m shamelessly hooked on this world and I’ll be over here dying for the rest of it and re-binging anything and everything that crosses over with it in the meantime. (Examples: Their Lethal Pet, Their Blood Queen, and Their Pretty Little Monster )

There’s a greater Midnight Fae presence in this one than the first two and a hint of Elemental and Winter Faes as well.

The authors’ ability to have me flipping as far as whether I love or hate a character is a testament to their brilliance—there’s a lot of extreme emotions reading this, and they just run wild—I love it, it’s so fun. (Two characters I always love—so far—in this world: Melek and Cami. Feel free to discuss.)

⛓️ Deals with the literal devil.
💙 M@te bites.
⛓️ Fated m@tes.
💙 The most epic world-building I’ve ever experienced.
⛓️ A visit to the Midnight Fae realm (of which I’ll never get enough).
💙 Scheming (Shade and Melek are present so … obviously. IYKYK).
⛓️ Groveling.
💙 Training scenes.
⛓️ Games / puzzles / manipulation (it’s fun!)
💙 So much suspense.

What I found especially delicious in this installment was the extreme test of loyalty … ties irreparably severed? Strengthened through the ultimate form of testing? Time will tell as this series further unfolds…

ALL the stars. I could never get enough of this world/series.

🎧 Audio:
I could never say enough about this stellar cast—truly, this is what audiobooks should sound like. ALL the stars.

Wow… I’m so deep into this series I feel like I’m drowning. Love, love, love this world!! The authors have knocked it out of the park yet again with this book. I can’t wait to see how it all ends. Am I upset to wait for the next book? A little bit, but you know what? It will totally be worth it! The build up is kinda sensual and I love how it’s not all rushed in three books. Some might think it’s drawn out but I think it’s absolutely necessary for you to capture everything they are telling us. You can’t rush a plot with this complexity and so many pivotal moments in it, for risk of ruining it.

“I’ll never trust you.” The words resonate in my very soul. They make me feel like death.

The Hell Fae realm is in chaos; the mystery of the rogue portals remaining unsolved. The Hell Fae King laying blame whilst the Prince and Ajax are on the opposing side leaving the Commander stuck in the middle. A safe realm allows relationships to bloom clearing the path for some much needed empathy. Can broken trust bonds be healed and misunderstandings resolved before it’s too late?

Ensure you check the TW/CW for this book as it contains strong sexual undertones, violent scenes, and themes of dubious consent.

This book brings emotions into play that you wouldn’t associate with the characters; they seriously pull at your heart strings. Some parts are quite distressing but bring with it understanding. This book was very well written and character development was on point. I loved seeing the more vulnerable side to our main characters, it gave them so much more depth and made the book in my eyes.

Would highly recommend this series, it’s become my favourite ♥️

I was super excited to read Azazel's story and learn more about him. From his anger issues to his inability to trust, to how Ty finally rescued him and how he managed to trust Ajax and them be together. And I was super excited to read over his and Camis union and coming together. Did we get any of that?...No.

We got a skimmed over, watered down back story right at the end that didn't even begin to delve into just what Az had been put through. We didn't see him and Cami working things out and 'bonding' considering she was his phoenix' mate.

I have never been so pissed off at Ajax. I have really enjoyed his character so far but in this book he really regressed. It was all me, me, me. He threw a companionship well over a thousand years down the drain for something he didn't fully understand or even question. Like Ajax and Az had been intimate thousands of times and were solid with each other and Ajax was so willing to cause Az pain and trauma and revelled in it literally the second Az does something he doesn't agree with. He just stole Cami away from everyone like he had some superior ownership over her and like he's never hurt her before? Sit the hell down! We got so much of Ajax and his back story which made no sense because we read all of that in Hell Fae Warden? This was supposed to be Azazel's moment!

I feel this series could have been completed in 3 maybe 4 books but with more meat on the bones.

Kindle Unlimited.

I read the first 3 books back-to-back, so this is a commentary about all of them, since the actual events of each installment blur together.

This series is heavy on the MM. If that's not your cuppa, don't bother with this. It's a strange combination because it's basically two male couples that are invested in the same female.

The challenge I had with these is that each installment felt incomplete. After three installments, I was neither emotionally invested in the characters, nor truly enthralled in the world.

I like Cami. I actually think she's a great protagonist, but the reality is, we don't know much about her. Every time we start to get a glimpse into a character, things spin away and the focus either becomes some other plot point, or sex. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The creation story was actually interesting, but again, we get an incomplete glimpse before the plot moves on. All of the different types of fae were too much for me. Midnight fae, paradox fae, nightmare fae, hell fae....I wanted to yell "you're all pretty and special!" and be done with the categorization.

I don't think I will continue with this series. Although it's interesting enough, by the time the next installment comes out, I will have forgotten all of the details of this series, and I don't think I'm invested enough to reread.

It’s official, the Hell Fae series by Lexi C. Foss and J.R. Thorn is my favourite. As soon as this third baby arrived in my Kindle, I was on it like bees to honey. I devoured both Hell Fae Captive and Hell Fae Warden – book three was absolutely devoured in the same way. Sacrificed much needed sleep to read it in one sitting.

I. REFUSED. TO. PUT. IT. DOWN.

We are getting closer to the end (which I am not even remotely ready for, btw), and all I want to do is talk about it – but I won’t because I’d give it all away and being I hate when people do that to me, I cannot in good conscience do it to others.

All I will say is that we learn more about their past, especially our sexy-as-hell Shifter Fae Commander, Azazel and his Phoenix, which expands our knowledge and helps us understand them better. And some mating happens, finally. Now if I could just have Az for myself, that would be great. Along with Ajax, and Melek and Ty....... Yes, ok, I'm jealous of Cami. Sue me.

Anyhoo, you want to read this. You really do, but make sure you read this series in order otherwise you won’t fully comprehend what is going on. Like the last two books, this ends on a cliffhanger.

Now, bring me Hell Fae Prince.... I need it, like, now.

ngl not much happened world building wise or magic building wise. it mostly relationship related. i didn’t get the intense groveling i wanted but we will see. that is if i remember this series at the end the year when next book comes out.

i keep saying the smut is dramatic bec it seems they only talk about how they feel for each only when they are heated for each other.

low key feel bamboozled bec i was promised a bad ass mfc. i am yet to see it. these men are so much more powerful it leaves no room for her. she gets some “training” and i thought yay finally she’ll be unstoppable but nope. the training they gave her was ass and we fast forward most of it.

i still hate lucy and melek so there’s that. az in kinda growing on me but he is too aggressive. i like ajax. he’s redeemed himself in my eyes.

so far every single book in this universe has kidnapping. claire gets kidnapped. gina was running for her life until she got kidnapped and drugged(gina was the most capable mfc in this universe so far imo but that alpha dude was SCARY). aflora gets noncon mated and kidnapped. what a mess.

This audiobook had me in the FEELS! I felt as if I was being pulled along by a spell needing to know more immediately. It was amazing!

My heart was so happy that we got to visit Aflora and her mate circle! It’s been a few years since I read her story and omg it brought so many memories back! I love the little Easter eggs here and there of all the other fae! This is such a fruitful and magic world, I need to make sure I have read all the connected story’s now!

My heart is still with Az! His story made me tear up! I just want to cuddle and cry over his Phoenix, I just want to smush all the makes and Cami together and say BE HAPPY 🤣

That ending I didn’t expect either! I need to know what happens at this ball!!!!!

This series has quickly become a favourite of mine in the Fae World created by Lexi C Foss and J R Ward. I also love that it intermingles with another favourite series in the Midnight Fae Realm.

Cami is left most of the time lost on what is happening until one of her men reveal a piece of the bigger plot. This series is full of spice, drama and mystery. Ajax and Azazel are swoon worthy, brooding, love interests while I’m still not sure where this will go with Melek and Typhos.

Most of the mystery comes from Melek. Does he know a hidden plot happening or is he just being meddling and proactive. Will Typhos want the others as mates or just a friendship like he has with Az. Who is Cami’s mother really and why does she speak to her in dreams? I’m very excited to see what happens in the next books of this series.

3.75/5⭐️ I think this book was more about context than plot. I think it was necessary, but at the same time it didn’t feel as though we were moving forward enough. I also miss the action of the previous books. Cami is definitely softer in this book as well.

I do love the addition of the midnight fae harem and Shade’s commentary is hilarious (as always).

There were a few typo errors in this book which is why it is rated much lower than previous books. It’s not the first in the series to have these mistakes but these were definitely more noticeable.

Deleted scene rating 1/5⭐️ - it wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t the best either. Super cliche and no substance.

hard no

I keep reading these books and the males in them just get worse and worse.

She’s strong one minute, and then can’t keep a straight thought in her head because he’s taken his shirt off….come on. Surely we’ve moved on from that…he did put you in a cage naked on the big screen for everyone to see, but boy oh boy his tattoos are nice.

I understand grovelling, but that’s non existent at this stage. They just need to smile and she gets gaslighted into thinking it was her issue all along.

Come on.

Finally we start to get some more answers. This book was a wild ride. I’m glad we finally got some of Az’s backstory. Melek is always going to be a meddler but as frustrating as it is to now know it’s fascinating watching the pieces unfold. Ty is finally starting to warm up to the idea of Camilla I think even if he won’t admit it. So her mom is a virtuous fae…I’m guessing and a new crazy guess is maybe her mom is Vivaxia. That would be a huge plot twist. I’m not sure but that’s what I’m thinking. I can’t wait for book 4. These cliff hanger kill me.

Well I really don't know what to say to about this book. Those boys really messed up with Cami and lost her trust and now they are groveling to win her back. There was some history thrown in there and some heat and some lessons that I think Cami needed to learn. All in all Cami has three mates she now has to attend with and with that doozey of a cliffhanger we won't know how things go especially since we still don't know what's causing the portals or exactly what Cami is. I can't wait to find out more and to see what happens next and what deals Lucifer and Melek come up next.

Fantastic Story!!!!!!

I absolutely love this series. This book just completely adds to the beauty of it. I love how we learn so much about this amazing character ps in this book. It may not have had as much action as the previous books but the amount of information that is revealed is amazing. It just drew me deeper and deeper into it. It is extremely well written and developed. It had me on the edge of my seat. The way it ended in this book definitely has me super excited to see what happens next.

Sooooo good

No surprises here, that this series continues to get better and better.

The world build is amazing - though I am still frustrated at not 100% understanding how the brides work seeing as one second they say that the brides have to actually choose a mate, and in the next instance males are told they can have their pick… it is my only ick from this series and hopefully this becomes a little clearer in the next instalments - as it has been slowly becoming clearer.

Anyway, 10/10 read, highly recommend

Getting into it but I still don't like Ty.

Ty is so manipulative and imo misogynistic. What he finds alluring in a male mate is what he despises Cami for being. Ty also only became interested in Ajax after Ajax was done looking up to him and wanted nothing to do with him anymore. SO ridiculous and now he wants Ajax to become his mate?!? It would be Bye Felicia for me! Start a new life in your home realm with Cami and call it a day. Plus, Cami would have to go through the trials??? EFFFF THAT!

Wow, this series had me from the first few chapters. I tried to limit my reading (too make the book last), but wasn't able to put it down. You get so wrapped up in reading that time flies by. I'm bummed the next isn't due out until late 2024! It's gonna be a long wait! I've read most of the series by these authors, they are so well written and the world they created is fantastic. Looking forward to the next one!

a good read

I really like the characters and the interactions are really entertaining but I almost stopped reading towards the end due to how slowly the romantic relationships were developing and the lack of trust between characters got old pretty quick. But I do love the word the characters are in and the ending of this book hints that hopefully the next book will be the beginning of a cohesive and trusting relationship.

Falling short

I want to start by saying I love these books. However, this one fell short for me. I get that Az has to earn the trust, but this book was mainly about the love affair she has with ajax. I wanted it to be like the title suggested about Az and his love affair with Cami, but it just wasn't. Then, the ending was extremely fustrating, to say the least. I will continue when Hell Fae Prince comes out, of course, but for this book, it was meh for me.

Hell Fae Commander🐦‍🔥

It’s taken me a little bit to get back to reading this book as I was hoping to read and then get the next one quickly. With so much on my TBR, I put it off and with the upcoming release have just finished😍

I love these characters and especially the dynamic between Typhos and Melek…especially Melek with all his “meddling” disguised as help🤣🤣

Can’t wait to find out what happens next and what decision Ajax makes😳
